Stellar Movers

Thank God for these guys. They moved my stuff on very short notice, everything was perfectly placed for maximum space in my new studio. Huge adjustable bed, very wide screen TV, massive desk somehow put together nicely even though it had been broken in a previous move. Not a scratch or ding even though I had no way to box the wide screen TV. They were very nice and knowledgeable; the manager in my new building recommended them and they really came through.

***Update. After posting an honest review, Stellar posted my email correspondence with their company which included my full name in it. The point of Unilocal is to give your review of a business so someone else can learn from your experience, which is why I posted. Not as ‘blackmail.’ If you read the emails, all information in the email is reflected in my post so I am not ashamed of it being included. If anything, it solidifies my point. Although they are trying to show my «true character», I think they are showing their own character. We had to contact the business directly to ask them to remove my full name from their post. (Which they did, thankfully.) It is absolutely crazy to think that they felt it was appropriate to include identifying information, which goes against Unilocal policy. I still stand by my opinion that being four hours late is unacceptable. I will not be bullied into removing my post.
Pros:
1. They were easy to get in touch with and were responsive to emails/​calls.
2. None of our items were broken/​damaged in the move.
3. They were only $ 120/​hour, which was cheaper than some of the other movers we investigated. They also charge to the 15 minutes, which is appreciated.
Cons:
1. Much like the previous reviewer, they told me on the phone that they would be there between 12 – 1. (Later they told me I was scheduled in the book for 1, but I am positive that they had told me between 12 – 1.) They called at 12:30 stating that they would be running late due to the fact that their first move underestimated how much stuff they had and that they were running late. They did not arrive until AFTER 4:00pm. In my opinion, this is not acceptable. As movers, they should have known immediately that the first move had too much stuff. Why was my move sacrificed because someone else filled out a form inappropriately? This clearly is an issue for them because this is the second review on the site with this same problem.
2. Due to their extreme lateness, they had to move on 76 during rush hour which increased the time, therefore increasing the amount I spent.
3. I had hired cleaners to come at 4:00 due to the fact that they should have been moved out by then. They weren’t, so the cleaner had to clean around my items. This made the cleaner take longer, costing me more money. (The movers’ response was that I should not have scheduled cleaners that day, per their website suggestion. They made reference to their movers having to work around the cleaners as well. I am pretty sure that out of anyone, movers should understand that most people don’t have flexibility on the dates they move in and out of places. If I had the option I wouldn’t have had cleaners come the same day but I couldn’t get in until then and people were moving in the next day.)
4. I sent them an email asking for a discount based on the fact that being that late was inappropriate and unprofessional. I received a rather long and lengthy email back spinning the issues back on me and basically insinuating I should have appreciated the care they took of my items becuase it rained, that their movers had to work around my cleaners, and that they had to deal with fresh paint at the house. (I wasn’t aware of any painting that was occurring. I’m a renter and was told painting occured several days prior.) I am pretty sure that none of those issues had an impact on how late they were. Talk about blame shifting. They also stated that this was normal practice for movers to show up that late because it is difficult to know how long a job will take. Although I understand that it is impossible to get an exact time, showing up multiple hours after it is scheduled is not appropriate. This isn’t my first time at the rodeo– if movers were always 3 – 4 hours late, they wouldn’t be in business.
5. Check out their response to the last person to post a negative review. Even if the person wasn’t providing all of the facts, I can’t imagine that a professional would be that snarky to a paying customer. Being condescending to a person giving an honest review is not how your gain business. If that review would have been posted prior to when I booked, I wouldn’t have gone with them on just that alone because it is a waste of time to deal with people who are unprofessional.
Overall, I would not use Stellar Movers again nor would I recommend them to anyone. I hope that they realize areas that they can improve because small businesses are hard to keep afloat and their current practices aren’t going to help them any.

I looked online and saw that STELLAR had four five-​star reviews; it didn’t occur to me to look at the fact that many of those reviewers had written ONE review for Unilocal, including the ones that Unilocal doesn’t recommend reading.
Other good things: Dave got back to me re: availability within an hour of my request for movers, which was June 8^th. On the day of the move, the movers Justin and Greg were mannerly and polite.
I moved out of a condo where I had resided for two years. I discovered, during the move, that STELLAR movers had smashed a hole in the wall behind the entrance door to my former apartment. When I told Dave, who was in charge, he replied that the building should have stoppers behind the door. To quote him, «It’s partially our fault, but 99.9% of apartment buildings in Philadelphia have stoppers behind their doors.»
In other words, it was the building’s fault that Dave and his team smashed a hole in the wall.
My mother happened to be there helping with final packing and pointed out that the movers who had moved furniture in two years prior hadn’t smashed a hole in the wall. In addition, the Stellar team had placed keys in between the door to keep it propped open; they were aware there wasn’t a stopper.
What shocked me was the lack of contrition. Dave was annoyed with my concern — not apologetic. I said, «I understand accidents happen,» but I still had difficulty with his apathetic attitude.
He said they could knock a few dollars off the bill; specifically, $ 25. Or his partner, Troy, could spackle drywall on it if he was available later. «I’m a mover, not a carpenter,» Dave said. I understood that he had a job to do in moving; my concern was how much money was going to be taken from my security deposit and he simply didn’t care.
That night he and his friend did return to the apartment and spackle the wall. I don’t know if it’s acceptable to my previous landlord and what she will deduct from my security deposit, but I want the record to show that Dave went back to fix it.
I needed a bed disassembled and sent the directions for this the night before the move (in addition to having a hard copy of the directions there). Dave was having difficulty with a stripped screw — understandable — and another part of the bed that the original assemblers had put together. This, fortunately for him, wasn’t a problem when it came to reassembling because the headboard couldn’t be moved into the bedroom door of my new house. The other piece of furniture disassembled was an IKEA dining table.
There were times during the moving-​out process that the movers were nowhere to be seen for up to 15 – 20 minutes. Perhaps they were arranging and rearranging boxes in the truck.
When it came time to move from area code 19 106 (Penn’s Landing) to 19 127 (Manayunk), the movers took 90 minutes to get here. The street on which I live can be hard to find and I saw the moving truck driving across the street from the railroad tracks — circling around the neighborhood! (that’s more money on the clock! I was told — and agreed to, as I was desperate on June 8^th to get movers — that 20 minutes on the clock and $ 15 in fuel would be added to the move because my move was «not within Philadelphia city limits» — as if Manayunk is in the suburbs?) — twice. Finally, Dave called and said he couldn’t find the street. I had written in an email to go left on «the hill going up Main Street» though, as Dave told me, «you probably meant Ridge Avenue» (he was right about that) and they couldn’t find the street or its sign to turn in (it’s clearly labeled across from a train station — again, no apology for taking over an hour and no money deducted from the bill).
At the end of it all, a two-​bedroom apartment moved from the above zip codes to a small two-​bedroom house cost $ 855. They did not reassemble the furniture because (a) they could not get the headboard into the bedroom and (b) the 90 minutes it took them to travel 8.9 miles cost so much that I did not want to spend one more minute or dollar. I was shocked at how long it had taken. I was also taken aback that Dave didn’t deduct an hour — $ 120 — for the time they wasted riding around Manayunk.
Stellar Movers likes to tell people what they should do. They definitely lack humility and manners. I expect to have a response to this review telling me what I did wrong, but I have been completely accurate and given props where deserved.
I hope that this review prevents other people from choosing their company. I did it because I was duped into thinking they were good based upon reviews — again, all written in May of 2015 — on Unilocal. I was also desperate because this was a last minute move for me.
My thoughts are that if you’re working with the public, especially during a stressful time in their lives, be polite.
And you «should» plan out your travel routes better, in addition to familiarizing yourself with the furniture you’ll be working.

They were totally unprofessional! We had a move scheduled at 1 pm and they underestimated the previous move and weren’t able to show up until 4pm! We are unable to move after 5pm bc of building rules so had to cancel them. The didn’t try to make us the first move the next day or try to fit us in! We got an iffy story about maybe they could the next day if they ended their moves early. The next possible time they could move us was a week away! It left us in a huge bind for end of June moving! Totally unprofessional and unreliable!

Just used stellar movers today. Love Troy and the boys. Very efficient and take pride in their work. Will use them again and will definitely recommend to our friends. They work with your schedule and accommodate any moving schedules you may have. Please use these guys. They are also VERY reasonable.
