Sweet As Fudge Candy Shoppe

I’ve been to the Sweet as Fudge candy shop in RTM twice – once after Thanksgiving and once a week ago – but have only made a purchase here once (on the latter visit). The selection of candy at this shop is staggering, and the prices are reasonable, esp. for RTM. The owners, who are Amish, are also very friendly, which is always a plus.
On the first visit, I came with my parents and my mom purchased a bag on nonpareils, her favorite candy. I was able to try one, and it was good. On my most recent visit, I purchased two squares of fudge, which ran about $ 6. One was mint chocolate cookie, reflecting my love of the mint-​chocolate flavor combination, and one was chocolate, which I bought for my mom, who loves fudge but isn’t adventurous. I tried both, and while they weren’t the best fudge I ever had, they were good. This may just be my personal preference, but I’m used to fudge that’s firmer in consistency to the fudge here, so it seemed a bit gooier than I’d like. Of the two flavors, my favorite was mint chocolate cookie, which had bits of Oreo strewn throughout it, though I personally would have preferred slightly more chocolate and less mint flavor.
Based on my experiences here, I’d definitely return the next time I’m in RTM and need to satisfy a craving for candy. If you enjoy candy, no matter what your taste, you’re sure to find something you like here, so be sure to check it out!

Yum yum yum! One of my favorite spots to get my fruity-​chewys! This Amish run candy shop is awesome. Rows and rows of colorful fruity-​chews… Sour ones, sweet ones, extra gummy ones and ridiculously good licorice. Ummmm yey for cavities and belly aches! I LOVE coming here.
While I’m not a huge chocolate fan, and so, dot often indulge, the fudge is insanely good and there are countless flavors as well!
This is the perfect place to get the loved ones in your life some sweet-​tooth gifts! Much less expensive than many of the other chocolatiers in Reading Terminal, and truly kind employees.

Great little candy shop! The Turkish delights are delicious and I always get the huge bag of banana gummies that aren’t easy to find elsewhere.

The Amish workers here are so cute, and friendly! Multiple times I have been offered a fudge sample without even asking, and then proceeded to buy copious amounts of their delicious delicious fudge.

Great assortment of products. A bit pricey though, but it is worth it. The chocolate is superb.

It really is a good thing I don’t live closer to Reading Terminal Market because otherwise I’m quite sure I would get diabetes. When walking past Sweet as Fudge already seems like you’re in Wonderland, think again. Actually going into the shop felt to me like I was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. So many different varieties of candies, from rock hard to gummi bears, licorice to chocolate-​covered pretzels, many many sweet things are here to tempt you into thinking that death by sweets isn’t a bad death at all. Anyway, since I consciously try not to get diabetes, I only got strawberry banana gummi bears (yes, they exist!) and almost half a pound of Cow Tales. That took a lot of self-​control to only buy those, so I’m rewarding myself now with some gummi bears (insert maniacal laughter here).
Beware, Sweet as Fudge accepts cards with a minimum of $ 5 purchase, which, if you let your inner sweet-​crazed self go, shouldn’t be hard to reach.

My favorite candy store, bar none.
I make a point of stopping here and picking up heaps of sugar every time I’m in Philly. These folks know how to make some seriously good fudge, so make sure you stock up on that if you’re in the hood.
They also have a ridiculous selection of gummy candies given their limited store space within Reading Market. I am guilty of walking out of here with at least a few pounds of coke bottles and swedish fish. I love how their candies taste and the fact you can also pick up lots of other treats along the way here.
But seriously, if you’re looking for awesome chocolates, fudge and other assorted sugar bombs, this is the place to go in Philly. I have yet to find a place in Manhattan that comes close to what they offer here.
They even ship candies out of state. Their website is kind of old-​school and sometimes it takes them awhile to process your order. But if there are delays they are very good about contacting people directly, so that’s a plus. It’s not a surprise given how friendly their folks are there when you buy from them in person.
Easily a 5 star place!

In the words of every basic girl: I can’t even.
Any kind of candy or nut you want, you’ll find. Any kind of fudge you want, they’ve got you. Chocolate, Maple Walnut, Pumpkin Pie, Apple Gingersnap, and so on. The «Buy Four, Get One Free» deal was, dare I say, sweet. The employees were great and I enjoyed listening to (who I assumed to be) the owner discussing this multiple decade-​run business with some other customers. Impressive!
Honestly, you can’t go wrong with the sweet stuff, and this place has it in spades.

Love the Amish goods!!! Stopped by to grab some fudge for my sweetie and it was incredibly hard to choose just one. I ended up settling on the pumpkin praline and apple ginger snap! I paid and received the sweets in a cute little box. Can’t wait to ship it to my honey!!!

There is SO. MUCH. CANDY. at the Sweet As Fudge Candy Shoppe.
Like, every candy you can imagine. Flavors you haven’t even thought of yet! And best of all, for citrus junkies like myself, they have KEY LIME FRUIT SLICES and KEY LIME YOGURT PRETZELS. Drop mic, game over.
And if you are not a citrus junkie, there are tons of other choices. Hard candies, soft candies, sour fruity things, fruit-​flavored everything, candied nuts (which happen to be, by far, the most expensive items in the store), trail mixes, covered raisins, fudge, & even old fashioned candy sticks. An entire case of chocolates! Remember those weird wax candies? They’ve got ‘em. Seriously, they’ve thought of everything. I shopped here twice during my 4-​day visit to Philly, and I have no regrets. My parents love the cinnamon cashews I bought for them, & I killed an entire container of assorted fruit slices. No shame here, guys.
Just remember that it’s an Amish store, so they keep the special hours. Really friendly employees too. I’ve never been greeted with so many smiles! And shopping here for gifts was awesome. Everything I tried tasted great! So tempted to buy everything in sight. This shop is a must-​visit. It will make you feel like … well …
… a kid in a candy store!

Oh fudge!
Sweet as Fudge is located in the Reading Terminal Market. We happen to be enjoying breakfast at the Dutch Eating Place directly across from it. I was locked in and it was all over for me.
Run by Amish employees, they are so polite and friendly. The homemade fudge looked perfect as it was calling my name. They have many different varieties. She offered samples of anything you wanted to try. So delicious! It was so good that none of it made it home with me. I couldn’t resist!
The store also has nostalgic candy of all sorts. I’m sure it’s a store parents avoid with children!

Went back to scope out the scene a bit more. They do have a great selection of candy and nuts and a very very good price.
They even had Dutch licorice which looks like it’s actually from Holland.
This is your go to to get your sweets for the weekend fix or your flight back home.
Hard candies are by the point. Others are already ore packed and priced out.

We stumbled upon this place while looking for Amish-​made cookies to no avail in the Reading Terminal Market. They sell different varieties of candies, nuts & chocolates.
Milk chocolate maple nut cluster — Chocolate with peanuts & nougat inside. Had there been any indication of the nougat, I wouldn’t have bought it. I prefer just nuts & chocolate, nothing gooey or liquidy in the middle. It’s good but too sweet for me because of the nougat.

We came across this place by accident as we wandered through Reading Terminal and once we saw the chocolate bacon, we knew we had to stop. The goods here are pricey, but delicious and the workers were friendly and helpful.
The chocolate covered bacon was delicious and a quarter pound was more than enough for the three of us to feel satisfied. This isn’t exactly where I’d go to buy cookies for the whole office, but for a delicious splurge this place is worth stopping into.
