Center City Philadelphia’s premier provider of Activator Methods Chiropractic. This highly specific, low-​force and gentle method of chiropractic allows our patients to relax and enjoy their return to health. We love caring for our patients. Our patients range from babies with colic and two year olds with ear infections to 95 year olds who leave our office standing taller and straighter. Pregnant moms-​to-​be are sent to us by their midwives and OB’s (many of whom are also our patients) or just by caring friends. Chiropractic care is one of the only ways pregnant moms can gain relief without taking dangerous medicines. Our pregnancy table is a favorite; moms get to lay face down for the first time in months allowing them to totally relax and enjoy their adjustment.

History

Established in 1994.

By husband and wife Dr. Zach Weiser and Dr. Yana Shenkman. When the kids came along, Dr. Zach stepped forward and Dr. Yana stepped into the role of mom and business manager for Washington Square Chiro. Dr. Shenkman still sees some of her long time patients and additionally works as a home care physical therapist for some of Philadelphia’s local hospitals. Early in 2010 the practice evolved to an Activator Methods specialty practice which allows us to treat patients with greater accuracy and comfort than traditional chiropractic methods offer. Our focus on patient care and patient care alone has always been our hallmark and this has not, and will not ever change.

Business Owner

Dr. Zach’s passion for growing plants led him to a degree in botany which is something he continues to enjoy. Post graduate studies led him to medical research in neurophysiology — how the brain works. This fascinating work led to great frustration as Dr. Zach only rarely had the chance to see any practical, healing application of his work. This, along with exposure to the world of complementary healing, ultimately led to his career in chiropractic. The Activator Methods of chiropractic most attracted Dr. Zach because of the tremendous research that organization has done into the neurological basis of chiropractic. Chiropractic has been for Dr. Zach the perfect marriage of hard neurological science and the more vitalistic healing methods which allow for life-​force to be increased in the body and for the body, mind and emotions to heal as they are reconnected to Source.

I liked Dr. Weiser and his staff however, I found the activator to be much less helpful than the traditional adjustments done by another chiropractor. My new chiropractor takes into consideration the fact that I am a 22 year old medical student and lets me pay a little less because he understands that I need to see a chiropractor even though my insurance doesn’t cover it… at Washington Square Chiropractic Center, there was no such consideration made. I went 3 times a week, paying $ 45 each time, for 2 months straight and saw a pain reduction from a 9 out of 10 to about a 5 out of 10 but after going to a different chiropractor, I have been able to go from painfully running 2 miles to being able to run 10 miles pain-​free after only 2 adjustments. I think the activator is more useful for patients who need a more gentle approach maybe? but not for athletes like myself who need a little more than what the activator had to offer.
So, while I don’t think there’s anything necessarily bad about Washington Square Chiropractic Center I have definitely found a much better chiropractor that has been more considerate of my personal financial situation as well as greatly reduced my pain in a much shorter period of time.

Dr. Weiser is really friendly, fun, and informative. I had first gone to him after switching to a desk job which was making my back pain unbearable. The method he uses is gentle and effective. Within 1 week my back pain had dramatically improved, 1 month and it was basically gone. I would recommend him to anyone!

Over half a year now has gone by. I have since seen the good doctor less and less.
Why? Because I am cured!
My femur hasn’t clicked in my hip for a long long time. The pain is gone. I feel better now than I have in recent memory. Many thanks!

I am 9.5 months pregnant and thought I pulled a leg muscle and was having terrible pelvic pain. It was so bad I could barely walk and sleeping was out of the question. I have never been to a chiropractor. I’ve always been interested but the whole cracking the neck thing freaked me out. After being told there was nothing I could do, besides just having the baby, to help with the pain I was desperate and was willing to try anything. Even though the technique that is used seemed like it doesn’t do much in the moment (there’s no dramatic back cracking or neck twisting), I did feel relief. It’s now two weeks later and my pain is almost all gone (I think there’s still a little pain that just comes from being 39 weeks pregnant). I’m actually able to sleep and move around… I feel like I’ve been given a gift.
The doctor and everyone at the office are all so nice. It’s been such a wonderful experience and on top of gaining pain relief I’m just happier and more positive. I definitely recommend!

Maybe I’m a skeptic, but I think this Activator thing is a big scam. It did absolutely nothing for me but take my copay and leave me feeling robbed. I gave up and found a much more effective chiropractor.

I originally visited Washington Square Chiropractic Center for intractable back pain about 14 years ago. I first injured my back in the 1970’s and re-​injured it multiple times over the next 25 years in a career that involved moving hospital patients off gurneys and other strenuous lifting. I had done physical therapy and aquatic exercise numerous times; tried massage, therapeutic touch and acupuncture. I limped and was in pain about 60% of the time. I had seen orthopedic surgeons, a neurologist, and a neurosurgeon. Mostl of them recommended surgical repair, but I know the statistics on back surgery are lousy, so I kept looking. Finally, the neurologist steered me to Dr Weiser. It took a few months to restore full mobility, and my back had been so damaged that I will always have to be careful, but this 68 year old lives a normal, active, fully mobile life.
It’s worth the search to find the caregiver who is professionally competent, who stays abreast of advances, who adopts only the proven new techniques, and who has healing hands. That the fees are reasonable is amazing. That he almost never keeps me waiting (maybe 3 times in 14 years). is delightful. And he has a sense of humor.
No, he’s not my son and he didn’t pay me to write this.

Been going on and off for years. Incredibly nice people, who stay up to date with current techniques. Rates are affordable, and bottom line — the treatments work.
In addition, it’s nearby mass transit, and parking is actually not bad.

I’ve never been to a chiropractor before, but i wanted to see if i could get anything to help with my pregnancy back pains. They have a special maternity pillow. After my first visit, it didn’t feel like they did much (they use this «gentler» pressure point tool instead of doing the «back-​cracking» i was expecting). However, i must say that my back pain has nearly disappeared!
