If I could give less than one star, I would. These people are rude, unprofessional, incompetent and they lie. I spent two mornings waiting for locksmiths who never arrived, then lied and said they were there but I wasn’t, and the dispatcher told me to find another locksmith when I called to see if we could make an actual scheduled appointment. How they stay in business is beyond my comprehension.

If you need to make a duplicate key, this is the place to go! Only waited for 3 minutes for them to make a copy of 2 brass keys. $ 6 total. Workers not the most friendly, but efficient and they seem to know what they’re doing. Can’t really speak for the rest of the services they offer here, but definitely an easy place to go if in West Philly/​UCity to make a copy of a key in case you lose your original!

Absolutely amazing! I went in and came out in a matter of minutes and the employees were extremely nice and courteous.

These guys know everything about old and new locks. They have built skeleton keys for me by hand. They also install mortise locks in new doors.

The lady who picked up my phone asked for all information and told me they’ll come in 20 minutes. I live 3 blocks away by the way. After waiting outside my apartment for 40 mins I called again to check, the technician told me he wasn’t told to go anywhere, but he would come right away.
The technician indeed arrived in 20 mins, did the job in 5 mins. Price is 85 $ plus tax, credit card accepted with no surcharge fees.
I think the fact that we waited so long is definitely not good experience. But the work itself is good.

Easy to access. Very quick! Cheap! Great service! I needed copies of my house keys and I decided to walk to West Philadelphia Locksmith on my lunch hour. I dont even think I was in the store for 5 minutes. The staff was evry freindly and very quick! The price was very reasonable. I would recommend to anyone. All the copies I had made worked perfectly.

I called yesterday and asking if someone could come out and fix my broken deadbolt. The woman told me someone would be out today. I wait all day and called again at 5pm. I spoke to a man and told him that I was supposed to have a lock serviced today. He asked if I remembered who I spoke with and I said I didn’t know her name, but that it was woman. He then started to complain about how she shouldn’t be answering the phone and told me that someone would be out right away. It’s the next day… and I’m still waiting…

I was rushing to do laundry in the basement of my apartment building and managed to lock myself out. I called my management company because there are workmen who live in the building with keys to all of our apartments. They said that they would not send anyone to open up and told me to call West Philadelphia Locksmith Co. It is not the Locksmith’s fault that my management company has this terrible policy.
When I called the Locksmith Co. they said that since it was late they would charge me $ 135 to send someone. The man on the phone (who I spoke with each time and I believe is also who ended up coming to my house) told me that if I found a friend to crash with they would come in the morning for much cheaper. I think he said $ 85. I said that I was worried about being late to work but ok.
I found a friend who lives in my building and she quickly invited me to stay at her place. But, I could tell that she was really stressed about a big interview the next day and I felt badly about imposing. So, I changed my mind and called them back. I said I was willing to pay the extra money, and asked to have someone come over. He said alright.
Then he called back and said that he couldn’t get any of his guys to answer and that no one would come. This was at about 11:20ish at night. He said he would come in the morning and reminded me that it would cost less. I asked what time he could come in the morning because I was still nervous about being late. My commute to work is about an hour and timing can make a big difference. He asked what time I needed to leave to get to work and said that he would come a couple minutes earlier so that I wouldn’t have to worry about it.
The next morning the guy to unlock my bottom handle lock. He told me that this lock was so unsafe and so easy that I really could have just picked it. He asked me to pay in cash, which no one mentioned and I said I couldn’t. So, he asked me to come out to his white panel van and use the card machine. He got that thing to work (finally) and then proceeded to charge me $ 135 (PLUS TAX) instead of the $ 85 that he told me REPEATEDLY because he had come early– which I hadn’t asked for and he had offered out of what seemed like kindness.
And I still late to work!

Hate to do this because I had had such a good experience with West Philadelphia Locksmith in the past, but after a bizarre phone experience with one of their employees, I’m never using them again.
I lost the keys to my car and called them before 5 pm on a weekday. The woman I spoke with was friendly and reassured me they could send someone out the following morning. She said they’d call me when they were on their way and suggested I call them first thing in the morning to get a timeframe for when they’d arrive.
Next morning at 8:30, I called West Philly and was greeted by some dude. Literally, some dude. He sounded like he was either a teenage nephew filling in at the front desk while the actual staffer who knew how to answer phones was on a bathroom break. Or maybe he was a radio DJ who decided to try out a really lame skit.
In any case, our conversation looked a little something like:
Me: Hi, I called yesterday to schedule to have someone come out to Broad and Washington streets to make keys for my car, and I was hoping to find out what time you expected to get here.
Dude: Who’s this?
Me: [Repeats myself]
Dude: Where’s your car?
Me: [Repeats myself]
Dude: Hold on. [Shuffling papers, background noise]. Uh, I don’t have a ticket for you.
Me: I spoke to Cheryl last night, and she told me to call back this morning.
Dude: Oh. Where’s your car again?
Me: [Repeats myself]
Dude: Yeah, sorry, I don’t have a ticket for you.
Me: I’m not sure why that is, since I spoke with someone last night.
Dude: To be honest with you, it’s pretty disorganized around here.
Me: O-​K, well can you come out sometime today?
Dude: Lemme check. [Shuffling papers, background noise]. No, I’m sorry, we can’t come out today.
Me: [Waiting for him to try to reschedule and surprised that that was all he had to say] Um, O-​K, well could you send someone out tomorrow?
Dude: [Shuffling papers, background noise]. Uh, no. I don’t think we can send someone out tomorrow either. Sorry.
Me: [Desperately trying to make something work in the next couple days since I really needed my car for work] Well, should I call back at a certain time to see if you can come on out ?
Dude: Uh, yeah. Calling back would be a good idea.
I was perplexed at how little this guy actually cared about getting my business. I mean, even if you’re booked solid for the next year, at least say so and apologize, so your caller doesn’t write you up on Unilocal.
Silver Lining: I consulted Unilocal for another recommendation and got AM PM Locksmith. They were great. The owner, Shai, was professional and efficient, driving down to South Philly and creating my car keys in under two hours total.
From here on out, I’m sticking with these guys:

The general consensus of this shop seems to be spot on with my experience. You get exactly what you hope for from a locksmith shop. No fuss, they’re friendly, and the prices for their services are reasonable. The only drawback of the shop is that the products (not services) that they sell are a bit on the pricier side.

I’m not incredibly upset, and I can’t comment on the quality of this shop’s services here.
I can however tell you that I called this business to find out if they could cut an extremely unique custom key. On being assured that this would be ‘ok’, I immediately drove cross town.
The man who I would assume would be the locksmith, glanced over his should and replied, «No, we only cut keys that we sell.»
To me this is only a minor set-​back, but I would imagine, that’s a fairly old rule that would be much easier said to customers when they call your business on the phone.

Amazing service and open early! I’ve been here four times now and they recognize me and give me a good time, pleasant small talk and jiffy quick processing. Albeit some keys are not perfect (some jimmying and wearing will put them in shape), but altogether they do it well.

I needed a key copy and literally, I spent a total of about 3 minutes in the shop. They were very efficient, friendly and professional. My key only cost me $ 1.87.

Nice people, very professional, and VERY competent at what they do! I had two difficult jobs at hand: duplicating a six-​cylinder Corbin key and making a making a new key from a twisted, broken, old high-​security key that I’d lost the duplicate for. I tried several places with no help for either problem. West Philly Locksmith duplicated my six-​cylinder key in about 30 seconds for about $ 2 (might have been three… all I remember is that it was less than I’d expected!) and kept the broken key overnight. The next day they called me to say they’d made a new key, and the charge was $ 8 for a project I’d actually never expected anyone to do for less than $ 20! And both keys worked BETTER than the originals ever had… NO idea how they managed to do THAT!

This place is dishonest and to be honest, almost criminal in its practices. I asked how much a key is and was answered «$ 1.60» I pick out the design I want, ask for two and the guy makes two copies. After he presents me with both keys he say’s it’s $ 10.80.
I complain and he says that he doesn’t have to tell me the price before he makes it. I say that at this price, I’d only like one key. He says he’ll sell me the two — or nothing. The manager arrives and is abrasively rude to me, telling me (in these words) to go f*** myself.
When I realized that this man is a cheat, who at the very least is running some scam, I understood the danger of his having the keys to my house. At this point he banishes me from the store refusing to destroy the two keys he has to my house.
I call Penn Police and when they arrive he completely changes his story, claiming that he’d told me precisely what the price was — outright lying in the presence of two police officers. At the very end the officers convince him to ALLOW ME TO PURCHASE the keys at his inflated price. No money in the world is worth more than not letting the employees of this CRIMINAL ESTABLISHMENT have access to my front door.
They are simply abusing the fact that there is no competition within the university city area.

I woke up on Saturday recognizing that I wanted to change the locks to my house, but somehow got caught up with the day and looked to realize that it was almost 2 pm as I ventured into the shop. The staff is friendly with a no nonsense cut to the chase edge, which is an interesting combination, that could rub some in the wrong way. It worked just fine for me.
I described what I needed, was quoted a reasonable price and a ticket was quickly written up. The guy says ok and finishes the conversation to move on to his next task. I respond, «Hey, so when will you be there, I just want to make sure that I will be in the house? He pauses, says, «we close at 3 today, so we’ll be there in a few minutes, are you heading there now?» I quickly get in my car and dash over to the house. The locksmith was there within 5 minutes. He then did his job really well by changing 2 sets of locks, making keys and finishing up right as the clock hit 3 pm. Now that’s service.

I’m angry enough to come to Unilocal and write this review.
A year and a half ago I called Houdini Lock and Safe and they were rude, expensive and had a dumb policy of charging extra for using a credit card. So I went to Unilocal and found West Phila Locksmith Co. I dealt with professionals on the phone and a friendly and smart guy arrived in his full-​service truck to change all of our locks. The price wasn’t offensive and I have recommended them to neighbors, friends and mommy mailing lists for over a year now.
Fast forward to this morning when I went to open the door to my back deck to fill the recycling bin before rushing off to daycare and preschool and then work. The lock basically crumbled into 20 tiny screws and springs. I couldn’t get onto my back deck to deal with the recycling or the rug I hung to air out the night before, all of which was a bummer but things could always be worse. Besides, I knew I could just call that great locksmith company that had installed the lock. Maybe they’d even cut me a deal since they were the ones that installed it. And even if not, the prices were fair the first time around.
So I called, while fishing tiny screws and springs out of my baby’s mouth.
The guy that answered was direct (much appreciated) and annoyed sounding (huge turn off). He took my info and said they’d show up later that morning. I said that’s not doable because I needed to head out the door for work, but I’d love if they could fit us in later today. He curtly replied to just tell him what time I wanted them there and I asked if 5pm was ok. I would leave work early to make sure I was home on time. He said fine. I rushed through my day and left work early to make it home an hour and a half before I usually got there.
At 5:10 the guy scheduled to come out called and said he’d be there soon even though it was pouring rain. I told him how much I appreciated it and that the work was all indoors. He then asked if they went over the price, because after-​hours service was $ 125 vs the $ 85 during business hours. I relayed the conversation I had with the rude dude that morning, and he basically said Tough Shit, that’s the way it is. Why hadn’t the guy mentioned/​threatened that when I chose 5pm to schedule it? And why do I recall them changing all the locks in my house for around 75 bucks?
I called the office and got the same response from another blabbering knucklehead. He said if I could find my receipt from over a year ago it might be covered, but probably not because it’s only covered for a year. «Who knows» was a direct quote. He said the only person who knew how to work the computer to pull up customer records had left for the day.
Needless to say, I am pissed. My trash will rot back there until next garbage day. My rug put out for an airing has been rained on all day.
I was not some drunk frat boy locked out of his place at 4am.
I am a homeowner and returning customer who called to schedule a fix for work they’ve done before. The guys they have answering the phones a) don’t know how to communicate business transactions, and b) apparently don’t like getting out of their work trucks when it’s raining.
Maybe I’ll edit this tomorrow if they are even somewhat more helpful. Otherwise — ONE STAR, locksmiths. And I have no shame in shit-​talking you to anyone looking for a locksmith.

Very friendly on the phone, the other places asked too many questions when I called. West Philadelphia Locksmith said come right in. They quoted me $ 15 on the phone to get a tubular u-​lock off the frame of my bike. It took the guy two tries once I got to the store but once the WD-​40 went on it almost looked too easy. I don’t really understand why they kept the lock though. I had tried to get the lock off for hours, I should have just gone to these guys in the beginning.

I had a really great experience with this locksmith.
I had to get a copy of an unusual key, and two other places had told me they couldn’t do it. One of those places recommended W. Ph Locksmith.
They did a great job — competent, efficient and reasonably priced. I couldn’t have been there more than five minutes, and the key still works well a year later. They seem gruff at first but are incredibly professional and polite. It looks like all employees run a tight ship and take their jobs seriously.
The service I had done was pretty simple, but I would recommend this place to anyone.
