Del’s Feed & Farm Supply

I don’t expect store employees to blow smoke up my… Or be ooee gooey friendly., but the guys they have working left have left me very underwhelmed with my overall experience. I guess wilco or some other feed store gets my business.

I bought 40 chicks of six different laying breeds from Del’s over the last 4 months. These are sold as «pullets» and the staff stated that over 95% of these chicks are females. Well, we ended up with 10 – yes ten – roosters! That is nowhere near the 95% and definitely way too many to be just bad luck or chance. When the first 4 became apparent to be roosters, I called Del’s and they wouldn’t hear of any type of credit. Furthermore, they were of no help in suggesting where I could rehome so many roosters.
We also recently compared prices for identical Purina chicken feeds, and found Del’s is consistently several dollars higher per bag than Denson’s. Same situation with guinea pig bedding – $ 19.99 at Del’s vs $ 14.99 at Denson’s in Corvallis. Needless to say, we no longer shop at Del’s, and have given all our business to Denson’s. It’s a shame that they knowingly price gouge when Philomath businesses need all the help they can get.

I go to Del’s regularly to get rabbit pellets (the Del brand version with 16 percent protein is really quite good). I am always impressed with how friendly and helpful the staff is. My regular shopping may not be that challenging but the first time I went in after this business became Del’s (used to be Cherry Tree and was under different ownership) the manager took great care to explain the different options to me and was very helpful.
Today was especially great; my young son and I went to look at the chicks. When it wasn’t busy, one of the employees came back and picked up a chick for my son to see more closely and «pet.» The manager spent a few moments talking to me about chicks and caring for them (we think we will wait until next spring!). Just really nice people who took the extra time to help us.
I know it’s not just me; I overhear the manager and the employees’ conversations with other customers who seem similarly pleased. With service so lacking in so many businesses, it’s really wonderful to find a place where you are treated so well, consistently.

Never in a million years did I think I would be writing a Unilocal review for a feed and farm supply store, what the heck? I’m a city girl! Well, used to be I guess. Anyhow, after scouring the entire town of Corvallis for some rubber galoshes (unsuccessfully) my husband remembered seeing this feed store on one of his bike rides out in the country. I doubted that they would have clothes, but what did I know? Not only did they have clothing, but had a pretty good selection of work boots and galoshes, and for CHEAP! I needed them for a lab class at school (cheesemaking), and I never thought it would be so difficult to find rain boots. In OREGON. But Del’s had a great selection, and we walked out with two pairs for under $ 25. Score!
