Alan S Plumbing

These guys were honestly useless. They may be okay when it comes to pipes and drains but they had no clue when it came to diagnosing my water heater problem.
After living in my home for 6 months, my electric water heater began pumping out hot water for only about 3 – 4 minutes before the water became ice cold, exhibiting the telltale signs of a problem with either the thermostat or the lower heating element. The home warranty company sent out a guy who was very nice and said that the only thing that was an issue was that the temperature settings were incorrect on it, with the lower and upper elements being set too close to the same temp. He made a few adjustments and after he left, it did seem to get better for about a week, only to revert back to the same issue after that time frame.
Called the home warranty company back and they sent out a second guy from the same company, who met with my wife. This guy initially said he thought he knew what the issue was but he wasn’t positive and that he would need to discuss with the home warranty company. My wife objected, saying that since this was the second time someone was out, we need a resolution on this, to which the guy replied that he had other appointments and gets paid by the appointment. Needless to say, my wife’s response was that we didn’t care how he gets paid but he needs to get this resolved. He finally backed off his stance, and called into the home warranty company (he was on hold a ridiculous amount of time, so I understand his frustration) and basically said that we needed a whole new water heater. At that point, we were good and the tech left.
The next morning, a third guy who said he was the boss of the other guy called. This guy said he thought that there may be a different issue and would need to come check it out before proceeding with the water heater replacement. Guy came out, said the issue wasn’t what he was thinking it might be. Instead, he said our problem was that our water heater was too small for the house. Despite my best efforts to explain to him several times that this size water heater worked just fine before a couple weeks earlier, he remained convinced that replacing the water heater wouldn’t solve our problem.
By now, the home warranty company is ticked off because there has been three separate service calls and they call out another company to take a look. This other company showed up on time, replaced the lower heating element and the thermostat, and were done within 45 minutes. Water heater has been working perfectly ever since. Alan’s Plumbing didn’t do anything except waste a whole lot of my and my wife’s time.

I have home warranty that uses Alan s plumbing. I got technician David and he was wonderful. Alan s plumbing was professional and timely and went out job their way to help me with home warranty. I would have no problem referring an dusting them again. Thanks David and Alan s plumbing

We had Pat come out this afternoon less than 24 hours after calling in a work order for a clogged sink drain. Pat snaked the drain clean, and repaired a leaking p-​trap that was installed by another plumber we hired that couldn’t do the job correctly. Pat also tightened the clean out valve that was loose, having not been tightened when repaired earlier this year. He took his time, making sure things were done correctly before leaving, giving us piece of mind – something we hadn’t had with other vendors. We appreciate the work Pat did and was glad for his honesty and integrity.

This company came to my house to fix my sink and water heater today. The water heater’s heating element breaker was going out so the tech replaced it. I flipped the outside breaker off for him as a courtesy at the panel and let him know I did so. After the installation, he told me his voltage reader was not getting a reading and that my breaker was broken. This seemed odd to me as this was never the problem but rather the issue stemmed from the heater itself.
He then proceeded to attempt to snake out my sink which was backed up. He could not clear the clog, which to his credit, is probably further down the line. Even though he had snaking equipment on him, he would not attempt to clear the line from either the laundry or on the roof vent line or on my dump line outside.
So, five hours and $ 65 later both the water heater and the sink are the same as they were before Alan S Plumbing showed up. I adjusted my work schedule in hope that I could get things fixed and get dinner going for my gal who is 11 months pregnant who was also returning from work.
Here’s the kicker — after Alan Plumbing left i went to the breaker on my circuit box — it was off! He’d never bothered to trip the breaker. So I did. Now at least we’ll have hot water tonight, but snaking the line caused my laundry line to overflow, so I’ve got a real mess on my hands now.
There’s something about the quality of service you get from a company that works exclusively with Home Warranty companies whose job is to take your money and refuse as many services as possible («We don’t do electricity.» «I’m not authorized to…»). I’ve noticed a lot of people on Unilocal reviews getting screwed by both Alan S and Fidelity Home Warranty Company so I’m going to be sure and reach out to my realtor and let her know about my experience.
UPDATE: We hired another company to clean up after Alan S’s snaking SNAFU today. They fixed the problem in about 5 min. The heating element breaker i mentioned is now not working again, so I basically have the same problem as before I called Alan S. DO NOT USE THIS PLUMBER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

I am an Elite Unilocaler and more than fair in my reviews. (Only apparently if you piss Unilocal off they go ahead and take your 2015 Elite badge without saying anything…) Aside from Daniel, this company is truly 1 star.
I am 9 months pregnant. Our water heater went out on Sunday. My home warranty company dispatched it to Alan’s Plumbing (THEIR bad choice) so I did not get a call until Tuesday as it was a holiday weekend. They could not even come LOOK at it until Thursday (today). Fine. I told them I was going to call my home warranty company and ask them to send someone sooner. They didn’t ask me for any info and said they’d leave my appt for Thursday unless they heard otherwise. My stupid home warranty company said too-​bad, so sad, you’re using them.
YESTERDAY (Wednesday) while I was at work I got a VERY RUDE voice mail from their office girl telling me I didn’t give them all my water heater info. Well, I was never asked for it. The voice mail said to call after hours and leave a message if necessary. Since I am a grown ass adult, I have a day job, so I called last night and left the info on the machine.
IN THAT MESSAGE I also said that I wasn’t sure if I was using their part or my own part to replace the heater but they could go ahead and send it.
I also had a conversation with their office boy (not the girl) and said I would be calling back that night with the info, that they had never requested before — and he admitted they had not requested previously.
So, Daniel shows up. He’s polite, informative, etc. He says the thing is toast and that he will have to replace it. He calls and gets authorization to replace it and warns me about a $ 130 modification that probably isn’t covered, yada yada.
However, HE DOES NOT HAVE THE PART. They told him not to bring it.
So, he calls to see when he can come back with it.
TUESDAY if I want to be scheduled, MONDAY if I want to be squeezed in.
Um, no. Again, I am 9 months pregnant, I haven’t had hot water since SUNDAY, and I need a hot water heater NOW. Also, you were supposed to send the part and DIDN’T. Your problem, not mine.
However, it has become mine. I sent the guy away without the fee — because I am not waiting until Tuesday. You come tomorrow? Fine. You don’t… I light you up on Unilocal,fire my home warranty company, and buy a stupid $ 450 water heater myself. (This was actually not an attempt to get the company to do anything. It was simply stating that they suck. I had a new water heater installed by a family member who knows how to do such things by 10 pm — same day.)

We have had excellent service from John at Alan’s Plumbing on two occasions — first a stoppage and then a faucet repair. We will request John when we have a service need and would refer him and Alan’s Plumbing with confidence.

Excellent customer service from start to finish. Freddie who showed up both times, was quick, efficient and knowledgeable.

Just had a new water heater installed in our Sun City home by Alan“s thru a home warranty plan. They set up an appointment and arrived within the time frame. The tech was very professional, courteous and experienced. One of the best plumbing jobs we have had preformed.

I called my home warranty company and this is the company they sent out. I called because water was gushing from underneath my toilet. I needed a 30 mins heads up so I could get from work to home and we both got there at the same time. Pete and Daniel arrived and informed me that based on what they heard when the flushed the toilet, it might be the wax ring. They were right, the wax ring was shot and water was spilling over it and coming from under the toilet. They fixed it in no time and even cleaned up after themselves. They were very professional, polite and courteous and even funny. Pete was very knowledgeable and was able to answer another plumbing question I had about the sound my pipes were making when the water ran.

Alan’s Plumbing was dispatched through my home warranty company to resolve a stuck faucet issue in the master bath. I received a call saying they would be out on Dec 18^th between 8am and 10am and they would call me with a 30min window.
Today December 18^th I received a call at 8:09am saying they are on their way, I said I will be there in about 30min. I work in central Phoenix and had to drive to my home in the easy valley which is about 25 — 35 min. At 8:40am I received a call asking where I am because the tech is waiting. I told the lady on the phone I will be there in 5 — 7min. She said if I was not there in 5min the tech was going to leave! I said if the tech leaves I will get another company and file a complaint against your company and hung up. Of course when I get there literally 4 minutes later, the tech is gone. I called Alan’s plumbing at 8:44am (all times can be verified on my cell phone) and got attitude from their employee because I was upset at this situation. I was not using any foul language but my voice was raised due to the fact I just drove 28 miles took time off work, and most upsetting is they knew I was five minutes away and if you look at the numbers I arrived at my house at 8:44am and their first call to me was at 8:09am so in reality I was only 3min past the original 30min window! This behavior needs to be made known for others who may unknowing choose this company for any service. I have also called my warranty company to file a complaint against Alan’s Plumbing in the hopes they will not use this company in the future, I know I will never accept a service call with Alan’s again. So beware of atrocious customer service if you choose this company.

We recently had our hot water heater replaced by Alan’s plumbing and found that the brand new water heater is leaking. Our baby’s room is near the garage and the floor is wet from the leak. We pulled the carpet up and it is wet with what we think is mold growing! Alan’s doesn’t take responsibility of «secondary damage.» So they basically put in a bad hot water heater and left us now with mold in our baby’s rooms, damage to the carpet and floor and possibly the wall. Wouldn’t recommend you use this company you could end up with bigger problems than you start with!

Had them come to my house on two separate occasions from my home warranty. They did a good job fixing the leak I had in my bathroom but after the plumber left I could hear dripping. He created a new leak! He came back half an hour later and «fixed it.» 4 days later it’s leaking again. The valve was not broken before and I’m not paying 60 $ for crappy service. Now my cabinet stinks and there is more water damage than there was before. Will not recommend or use their service again.

Alan’s plumbing responded due to a leak in the slab hot water line. We wanted both the hot and cold water lines rerouted, so that no active water lines would remain located in the slab. This was a major and difficult (old house) two day job. Pete was the lead supervisor, and we have nothing but positive things to say about his professionalism, can-​do attitude, and positive approach to getting the job done. As a retired City government executive, I am very critical of poor performance, so I am very happy to report that this was definitely a job WELL DONE! John W Greco, M.S., ICMF

The gate valve that controlled the water to my house had broken. I called my home warranty company and they sent out a guy from Alan S. Plumbing. The tech had said the valve broke from «being over tightened», therefore my warranty would not be able to service my request. However there is no way to tell how the valve failed, and its more likely the valve rusted out. I should note that the warranty covers «normal wear and tear» including a rusted out valve, but not an over tightened valve. The technician was completely incompetent or a liar.
I have a masters and an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering. I work on process equipment daily, especially on valves. I know enough about valves to design an entire working chemical process with them. I know the pros/​cons of each valve style and about materials of construction. This company took advantage of the situation to get paid for a service call, but to complete no service.
Additionally the man that came to my door was rude, came in an unlabeled truck, wasn’t wearing a uniform/​name tag, and was very short with me when I was verifying his employer.

After four HORRIBLE and unique service requests from Grace Plumbing (through AHS Warranty), we finally found a winner! When the pipe under our kitchen sink busted, I insisted AHS send out a different company this time. Alan’s Plumbing answered the phone on the first call (no 20 minute hold time), their scheduling coordinator was very helpful in getting a tech scheduled the same day. I was notified 30 minutes before the tech arrived. He was punctual, professional and very efficient. After 20 minutes my sink was good as new. Very pleased with this plumbing company.

I didn’t use their plumbing service, I only purchased a water heater.
Big props to PJ for meeting me at the shop on Saturday when they are normally closed so I could pick up the water heater!
He was very friendly, easy going and gave me a good price! He also helped me load it in to my truck too!

DO NOT USE Alan’s Plumbing. They had to make two trips to fix a situation which the first plumber should have fixed (missed a toothbrush stuck in the toilet). We understand these things happen, so we asked for a discount on the second visit. The call agent agreed to a small discount, but when we asked for more and suggested he call Alan, Alan had him charge us EVEN MORE. What kind of customer service is this? DO NOT RISK having two service calls if you get a poor plumber. THIS IS TERRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICES and they made a lot off of us on something that should have been done right the first time. Terrible.

I had a poor experience and maybe it was an off day.
Problem: Sticky toilet valve and leaky base.
When the tech arrived I showed him the valve and I was told ‘We don’t stock those parts, will have to be special order’. Ok, I thought, I can do that myself but its a really common Home Depot Kohler toilet??? Moving on.
Then we started talking about the leaky base and 1^st thing, the tech tells me «As a company policy» they don’t do the solicone base after resetting the toilet. Really? Ok, but everyone else caulks around the bottom of the toilet after they reset. But fine again so we move on.
Remove toilet and he «discovers» the base flange is corroded and nothing can be done (I already knew this and tried to explain over the phone when I made the appointment). He said there was nothing he could do except cut the concrete and replace the pipe for $ 1K. Really? He said everything had to be to «Code». Toilet code?
So he left, I had to pay $ 100 bucks and got zero service except a removed toilet.
I went to Home Depot and bought the gasket for $ 4.89, Ring for $ 12, the flange repair sleeve for $ 26 and a tube of sealant for $ 4.00 and fixed it myself in 20 minutes.

If you value your home and time don’t use this company. Do not let your home warranty tell you they have no other vendors.
Two weeks ago I called my home warranty about a link between the first and second floor of my home. Within an hour I received a scheduling call from Alan’s to come out the next day. So far so good, right?
The tech shows up, say its the toilet washer ring not the shower like a thought. Ok fine, I’m not a plummer what do I know. Works done, I pay my co pay for the service and we all go on our marry way.
Fast forward two weeks, the ‘toilet’ leak is now a big water bubble in my kitchen and a big mess. I call my home warranty and they send the same company. They call right away to schedule the visit the next day. So far so good. They say they will be at my home between noon and 5 pm.
After my husband wastes his whole day waiting for the plummer to show. They call at 5 pm to tell me that the plummer is finally on his way (finally). I get home at 5:45 pm and they plummer is just getting to my home. irritated at this point but not his fault… until
I find out that this is the same plummer that came out two weeks earlier and didn’t to the job right the first time. He tells me its another call, he can’t fix it tonight and it will be another $ 75 copay.
I ask him to explain what is wrong and his response is:
«Your warranty authed the work then took it back and i’m late for my next call»
I ask for his name since he has now gone from being unprofessional to down right rude. I ask for his last name and he refuses to give it to me. At this point I getting pretty ticked off so I ask he was the person who came out the first time and he says yes. So I ask him to help me understand how the same leak is now a whole new problem because he missed it the first time? it deteriorated from their ending with get out of my house.
My next call is to my home warranty, turns out he bold faced lied, they did issue the auth to fix the leak but did not reverse it. After explaining what happened I was for another vendor to do the repair. I may still have to use them but I was clear that I would rather pay my $ 75 copay again to another vendor than allow Alan’s plumming into my home ever again!
If you have read this far head the warning don’t allow this company into your home!!!

Alan’s Plumbing was awesome. The Plumber Chris showed up on time and was extremely quick and professional.
