Barb’s Bakery

I have an emotional attachment to Barb’s Bakery. This has been the bakery my family has gone to for more than 25 years. Everything we have gotten is delicious! The pastries are our favorite. Pink champagne cupcakes are to die for as well!
There is something about a family owned bakery shop that makes it better.
Barb’s is the best in the Valley!

Barbs is fabulous.
I used to work at AJ’s Fine Foods years ago, and I knew that AJ’s got some of their items from Barb’s (petit fours, the large designed cookies with icing usually in the shape of flowers, smiley faces etc., and a few of the small cakes) that AJ’s gladly sold at their location without stating outright that they are from Barb’s and of course upping the price a heft 200%. Don’t get me wrong, I do love me some of what AJ’s makes, but I still think it’s wrong to buy a product from a company and market it as your own with such a large up-​charge.
Anyway, I started going to Barb’s 2 years ago to check out the other products they offer since I moved into the area. One major attribute about a great, local business is that they are consistent. They have amazing items, including a champagne petit four, mini cheesecakes, and cronuts, all of which were not offered at AJ’s, and that have been the same mouth-​watering product every time I get one. At least once a month, you’ll spot me buying a dozen donuts on a Friday for the office. They’re super fresh because Barbs makes them fresh every morning, they’re scrumptious, and they’re about $ 7 a dozen which is competitive to Safeway, Fry’s, and Krispy Kreme donuts. Please get your donuts here. You won’t be disappointed.
Additionally, the staff there are friendly and remember who you are. I love a great family-​owned business that knows what good customer services is but that also makes great products. They recognize me now, which is probably not a good thing for me but a great reflection of their customer service and how loyal their customers are, so I feel welcomed when I arrive. I’ll keep going back to Barb’s as long as they have food for sale!

I am so disappointed in this place. I went in to order a cake for my son’s birthday and the lady who helped me was so nice! I had a difficult request but she said they could work with me to come up with something good. So I ordered the cake and sent them pictures but when I went back in I was «helped» by a really grumpy man who said he couldn’t do anything I had asked for. He was totally uninterested in working something out so I cancelled the order, leaving me with a week to find another place. Some people should not be allowed to deal with customers.

I ordered a cake for my sister’s birthday. It was a spice cake with pumpkin mousse filling, and cream cheese frosting. The cake was beautiful and delicious!

The first Valentine’s Day my husband and I were dating, he got me a dozen cupcakes from Barb’s. At that moment I knew this was the one… bakery that would be my go-​to for the rest of my life.
But seriously, you can’t go wrong with choosing Barb’s for your bakery needs. My husband and I had Barb’s do our wedding cake and cupcakes. Barb’s made us a small pink champagne cake for us to cut, as well as 100 cupcakes in four different flavors. They had quite a few flavors/​fillings to choose from, the price point was great, our cake turned out beautifully, the delivery was timely, and most importantly, the cake and cupcakes were delicious! We got tons of compliments from our guests about the cupcakes.
My favorite cupcake flavors are pink champagne and strawberry cheesecake. Their carrot cake is also wonderful. My mom ordered a carrot cake from Barb’s for my grandma’s 70^th birthday a few months ago. My family all agreed it was the best carrot cake we’ve ever had. My husband doesn’t even like carrot cake and he devoured a giant slice.
I haven’t tried anything from Barb’s besides cake and cupcakes, but my company recently ordered cookies from Barb’s for the October birthday people and I heard they were delicious.
Stop reading this, and go to Barb’s! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I called a few days before my arrival into Phoenix and Barb’s bakery had no hesitation in creating a last minute cake for my husbands birthday. I highly recommend one to check them out. The cake was deliciously made! The only complaint I have is that I did not have them create an additional cake. Thumbs up!

We tried to place an order via email on a Monday for a cake to be ready the following Saturday. We called twice in the following days during business hours and they did not pick up. They were unresponsive and rude when they finally did respond. They wanted our credit card number before they would give us a quote. They did not respond until Thursday evening and then lied about it. Since we are working people, placing an order on a weekday in person is near impossible, as they close at 3 pm. The emails they did send were unprofessional; full of typos, grammar and spelling errors of grade school level. It’s just easier and less stressful to go somewhere that’s friendly and accommodating.

I stopped in this weekend for the first time and loved the extensive selection of cupcakes that were very reasonably priced too! I ended up with a pink champagne cupcake and loved every bite of it — moist cake and creamy icing… perfection!

Barb’s has a solid reputation in the Valley… they’ve been around for more than 35 years creating everything from pastries and cookies to cakes, cupcakes, and more, and they have several rewards (and tons of awesome reviews) to show for it!
I’d enjoyed Barb’s creations for years at events, but never ordered from them directly… until recently. I ordered a custom cake for my son’s 4^th birthday, and I was pleased. The cake was ready when I requested, the image that I sent looked great, and most important, the cake tasted amazing too! This isn’t your grocery store cake… you can taste the fresh, quality ingredients that go into it.
When I went to pick it up, I noticed the bakery case filled with all kinds of sweet treats and the fact that they serve coffee too… I may have to return for a sugar fix next time the craving hits. Well, after we get through all of the leftover cake from the birthday party, that is! (We had plenty!) They don’t skimp on their serving size estimates :)
There are plenty of bakeries to choose from in the Valley, but no matter the occasion you’re planning for, you can’t go wrong with choosing Barb’s!

Barb’s Bakery is the only bakery you need to know about. Amazing cookies, cupcakes, pastries, and cakes. If you want to wow your friends, peers, and family– get a cake from Barb’s. My favorite is white cake with whipped cream and fresh strawberries in the middle.
Try them out– you won’t be dissapointed. Protip– AJ’s sells Barb’s iced sugar cookies, and they are amazing, but if you buy them from the source they are fresher and less expensive.

My dad loves white cake, so for his birthday I was searching the Phoenix area for the best cakes and Barb’s caught my eye. I ordered an 8″ round white cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. The cake was good! The decorating was a little off. I asked for light blue writing and they did a turquoise. Also they did a color scheme of blue and black on the side, which didn’t match. But overall a nice small bakery.

What kind of asshole takes a review star off for their location? Well, I humbly return that star! Barb’s provided our bday cake promptly and at a fair price. EXCELLENT quality! We were perfectly satisfied with the portion amount and it was holy shimolies delicious! Artwork was professional as well (Incredible Hulk). My son’s 6^th bday was complete with this cake and he’s a picky little shit… Thanks Barb’s Staff! Well done!!!
Also, there was a poem on the front window in remembrance of Memorial Day, «Flanders Fields»…classiest thing I’ve seen in Phoenix in 5 years…

What a cake! My son LOVED his garbage truck cake! It came out so cool and they pulled it together fast! Everyone loved the cake itself too, super delicious!!! Thank you Barb’s team, you all work miracles! This is now my go place to for awesome cakes

I have been coming here for quite a while to get treats for our office Birthday’s each month. I prefer to use local businesses whenever I can.
Recently I ordered a cake for my dear friend. I usually go to LGO when I want something awesome, but I decided to give Barb’s a shot.
I was not disappointed.
I ordered a gorgeous carrot cake and it was a hit. The cupcakes are so good and so pretty, I give them as gifts.
Do yourself a favor and have cake… cake, cake, cake, cake, cake.

This review is based on the complete lack of customer service offered when I was trying to organize a cake order for an upcoming event, from a long distance away.
Emailed several times to get info about the cakes offered and the infrequent responses from whoever (they never gave their name in the email) handles email orders were devoid of both relevant info or courtesy, they obviously couldn’t be bothered to sell me anything. I tried in vain to place an order and never got any response or confirmation. Terrible way to run a business, and when I do visit AZ, will be sure to avoid at all costs.

Had a frosted sugar cookie from here. It was definitely a step above those mass-​produced pink frosted sprinkle-​laden ones, but it didn’t blow me away. I personally feel the frosting (which almost seemed like fondant?) was way too thick.
So, one star off for too much frosting and another star off for the location, which others have already talked about. I’m assuming they own the building…

i have only tried the cookies from barbs but they ARE THE BEST COOKIES EVER
I buy them at my local AJs and we pay over 3 dollars a cookie — thats how good they are! I will have to stop into barbs and check it out (:

This BAKERY has been here for as long as I can remember.
Phoenix Proper fun place to visit at any time. Over the years we have gotten many cakes, breads and rolls here.
All good and a reasonable price as well.
They also bake a lot of things for other shops, such as AJ’s. Yes the grocery store.
So you know they are good just with that alone.
If you need a cake at a reasonable price, this is your place.

Frosted Sugar Cookie
These cookies are not the white sugar and flour cut out cookies you get from the bakery at the local supermarket. These sugar cookies are absolutely delicious! Colorful, bright, and flawlessly decorated. Each cookie looks like a work of art that you will want to take home, that is if they make it home and you don’t devour them first. Barb’s sugar cookies are everything a sugar cookie should be. Crunchy, buttery, light, and perfectly frosted, you’ll want to eat more than just one. I came here and got a cake for my teenage daughter’s 18^th birthday. I meant to make it special and bake her a cake, but we were leaving for Disneyland the next morning and I simply ran out of time to contend for the ‘Mom of the Year’ awards in my house, so I did the next best thing and I went to Barb’s Bakery to get a cash and carry cake.
Since there were only 6 of us at her little party I opted for a new offering at Barb’s; miniature 6″ cakes for around $ 12. It was a beautiful, pure white cake with elegant white roses and piped drapes and beading. It was a sight to behold in its monochromatic simplicity! My daughter was very impressed with her tiny creation in pure white.
The only drawback about the cake was the taste of the frosting, it didn’t have any kind of a special flavor, like Barb’s cakes normally do, it was just plain and sweet. Not even a vanilla flavor. This seems odd for Barb’s so I’m almost wondering if someone forgot to add vanilla flavoring to that frosting batch? If it’s on purpose then I’d politely suggest adding some kind of extract to the frosting as it just needs something more to really take it from a simply ‘good’ cake to a ‘delicious’ cake.
Just my two cents! Otherwise my little cake was perfect and my daughter thought it was beautiful, thanks!
