Camelback Dermatology & Skin Surgery

Amazing practice. I love working with Dr Amena DeLuca. She listens carefully and provides skin care for all my family members. Including my young Daughter with severe Ezcema. Easy to schedule appointments and thorough exams. I’m so impressed with Dr DeLuca because of her time studying skin cancer at Johns Hopkins.

Not impressed for all the good reviews. Main doc next to impossible to see & assistants not very good &/​or engaged. Too many other good docs in town…

I have been a patient in this practice for years. As an established patient, I would think if I’m having a problem I should be able to be seen in a timely manner. Today, I called with a problem that requires attention and was informed that I could not get in for 2 months. Of course I was willing to see anyone who was available. What’s the purpose of having a dermatologists if you can’t be seen? The office staff informed me I should see a general practitioner sense there were no appointments available. They were more than happy for me to move on. Actually what I will be doing is looking for a dermatologist who’s interested in caring for patients.
UPDATE: I just received a return call from my primary care provider giving me a list of three excellent dermatologists in my area. After speaking with them, they will be removing Camelback Dermatology from their list of referrals. To quote, «There’s no reason to refer if our patients cannot be seen in a timely manner.»

I am so grateful to have found this office! I needed to see a Dermatologist for my rosacea. The care regimen and creams they prescribed have really helped. Everyone there was very nice and I waited only 3 minutes to be seen. The office is beautiful. The Doctor really listened to everything I said. I couldn’t be happier, I wish every Doctor appointment was like this one was!

It is very disheartening when you have frequented a place and years and then have to find a new doctor. I always have shown up to appointment early and then have had to sit and wait for 30 – 60 minutes after my appointment time to be ushered into the back room. Once in the back office, there was always another waiting period of 15 – 20 minutes just for the doctor to come in and spend 5 minutes with you. Let me mention also that they only make appointments 4 months out… not helpful if you are dealing with skin cancer issues.
On this particular day I was running late for an appointment due to a work meeting. I called as soon as I was out of my meeting (10 min past my appointment) and let them know I was 4 minutes away… I work right around the corner from their office so it was very convenient. I was told not to bother coming in and they would not be able to see me until February!!! I understand that I was showing up late for an appointment but how can an office that is constantly 30 – 60 minutes late for appointments fault a patient for being late one time!!! When I told the person on the phone that I had reoccurring spots, I was previously treated for skin cancer, she said sorry but there was nothing they could do.
I have gone to other doctors and once you are an ESTABLISHED patient, they work with you. This was not my first time with this office, as I was an established patient, but now I will be looking for a new dermatologist. If you choose to go here, make sure you plan on an extra 30 – 60 minutes of waiting time past your appointment, but don’t you dare try to show up late for your appointment time. In addition, if you are going expecting to see Dr. Romaine, don’t bother. Over all my appointments, I have only seen her once and then have been handed off to practitioners.

The scoop is… an office full of staff, with yes, pretty, sometimes smiling, clean faces, however, none of which truly know anything about running an office nor how to deal with patients or customers! Seriously, your focal point is «skin». One would think that alone would be a sensitive subject but not at this office. They are more concerned with their own image and their own appearances which detracts from the patient (s) who are relying on their team to solve issues, advise and create lasting relationships.
The list of problems with this facility is quite a long one, starting with the initial phone call. The phone rings and rings. You can never get through to scheduling. Then switch over to a «medical assistant» line and still can’t reach anyone.
One Medication after another, confusion and mix ups with medication, multiple visits that end up going/​doing nothing… no empathy, no sensitivity, no details to treatment plan at hand… save yourself frustration and time… look elsewhere!!!

I had this office as my Dermatologist for years… and I hadn’t needed to visit in a few years (from the old office at Camelback).
This time it was extremely frustrating. I had my appointment, and I arrived on time and had to wait about 30 minutes. Got treatment and was told to come back for a follow up in a few weeks.
When It was time to return I got an unexpected emergency at work and was running about 20 minutes late or so. I called and they said «no problem, just come down and it might take longer to see you but we will get you in». I confirmed, since I had a 40 minute drive, and I told them I had a long drive.
When I arrive they had me wait for a good 20 minutes, and THEN they tell me they can’t see me that I was too late. So after loudly asking them to honor their first message to me (that they would see me) and them saying they didn’t even know who had said that from their office, they just turned me away. They made me waste nearly 1 hour and 30 minutes I didn’t have, and now I need to see a different doctor for the thing they started treating, that wasn’t successful.
To cap all of this, they sent me a $ 5 bill on the mail, no reference to everything else that happened.
So recap: the doctor is Ok, if you ever get to see her. The techs are pleasant and didn’t resolve my problem. The office staff is incompetent in my experience.
No good having a doctor that you never get to see because of his/​her staff!

Called to ask about the cost of an upcoming procedure and got the old slight o’ hand trick. «Call your insurance company», she said. I countered with, «The Doctor sets the price. What is the price?» They wouldn’t tell me. Now, while I understand how the game is played, it comes down to a matter of trust. If I am to trust this doctor with my medical needs, surely I can trust them to simply be straight with me about the cost of the procedure. We’re all adults here. What other industry lacks transparency as much as healthcare???

There’s so much I could say… Long story short: DO NOT COME HERE FOR ACNE TREATMENT. I came here because I was having issues applying makeup. My skin was too dry and I wanted to have a smoother texture on my skin. I left here 4 months later with horrible, horrible acne. I HAD NEVER HAD A BREAKOUT LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE. Was told at first I just needed 2 or 3 chemical peel treatments for my dead skin. However I got about 6, because I was told I waited too long after the first one and I needed the receive the treatment every 2 weeks for it to «work.» It seems here their aesthetician is more concerned with having clientele come in every 2 weeks, rather than actually doing good and making the issue better, therefore the client wouldn’t have to arrive every 2 weeks. (And I was commuting far…) Every time I left, the aesthetician always made sure to recommend me 5+ products to buy at the door. (None of them were «cheap.») When i purchased a suggested face wash that only made matters worse, the aesthetician, Kristel, and Molly refused to listen and believe me that it was making me break out. They would not issue me a refund, but my biggest concern was that they would not listen to me. They acted as if they were home with me every night, caring for my face at all times, washing my face and applying my make up and sun screen. As if they knew my own skin better then I did. The only thing that cleared my face back up was TO STOP going to them. They also prescribed me multiple antibiotics and hormone pills, which also made matters worse. But did they listen? No, instead of admit to trial and error EVER; all they did was try to convince me it was a hormonal issue. (They made matters worse, prescribe more pills my body could not handle, now I have been diagnosed with anxiety and IBD.) It’s sad that I was so belittled and not even treated as a reference to my own skin issues by healthcare professionals, who I trusted and believed actually cared for my well-​being, however, I NO LONGER trust healthcare professionals because of the staff here.) Bottom line, the staff here has an «one size fits all» treatment when it comes to acne, but that’s not the way skin works. (Especially ethnic skin! If you do more research on chemical peels, birth control, and ethnic skin, you will find why.) There’s so much more I could say… I am certain if the staff saw me now, they would not even be able to recognize me. Since mid treatment, I began to feel like they didn’t even remember what my skin looked like on the first day I consulted with them as a new patient. Nor did I feel like my original issue mattered anymore, because they created bigger issues. On a positive note, isolaz does work, it’s covered by insurance, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to operate the machine :) There’s so much more I could say about this business, if you have any questions, just ask, but I’m telling you with all good intentions for someone out there struggling with the same issues I had, do not come here! My skin is cleared up now, but I still have scars under my make up to show, and the emotional scarring this caused me will last my entire life. I use to cry myself to sleep every night. Not to be dramatic, but I did develop other health issues thanks to the pills Molly prescribed me, which will also last my entire life. I did look into filing a suit for my claims, however I know I signed a couple of waivers, so I don’t think legal action could be possible, but I do know now to be a smarter and more assertive person in the future. I know I could also contact the BBB.

I spoke with most of the Dermatologist’s in Phoenix who perform the procedure I wanted. They were the most competent on the phone and turned out to be just as professional and qualified once I arrived at my appointment. From the gal at the desk to the folks at check out they were nothing short of fabulous. Dr. Romine and her staff were all extremely knowledgeable and generous with their time and expertise. I will use Dr. Romine as long as I live in the area.

I went to this office for well over 2 years. Started going at their old location up on Camelback. I initially went for a worsening break out on my face, which did not appear to be acne. I was «diagnosed» with rosacea by a PA (unfortunately can’t remember her name, she has blonde hair) who I ended up seeing each subsequent visit. She prescribed, what I assume to be the standard treatments for rosacea. I was a bit surprised by the diagnosis, as my symptoms didn’t really scream rosacea to me, but I’m not a doc, so I followed her orders. Had regular check ups every 3 months. My skin continued to worsen over the entire time I went to this clinic. I kept being told to be patient, as skin disorders take time to clear up. Well, I would consider nearly 3 years of being on a treatment plan (for something I apparently never had) as being patient.
I eventually ended up with a horrible cellulitis infection on my cheek, which was treated using a medication that I was told would likely «clog my pores badly» but that could be reversed. Once the cellulitis cleared, I returned and asked about continuing the rosacea treatments as my skin still had the exact same issue I originally came in for nearly 3 years ago. The same PA who had seen me and treated me each time said, «You don’t have rosacea» and denied ever having diagnosed me with such. Huh?! What have you been treating me for this entire time then?! What do my records say?! I then inquired about my clogged pores from the cream used to treat the cellulitis. My questions and concerns were literally ignored and dismissed. This same PA eventually said, «Well, there is nothing else we can do for you here». Really?! So I wasted the past several years on a treatment plan that left my skin in the worst condition of my life with likely irreversible damage?! I absolutely DO NOT recommend this practice! Unfortunately, I’m still looking for a competent dermatologist.

Referred to Dr. Romine for MOH surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma. First time so I had no idea what to expect. The staff were all excellent, reassuring, compassionate, caring, cheerful, and kind. Dr. Romine was likewise and I found her to be extremely efficient, talented, gentle, and spent time answering my questions. In addition, I believe that her level of skill has completely minimized what could have been an ugly scar on my cheek. I highly recommend Dr. Romine, her staff, and the overall level of care and support I experienced.

My doctor recommended Dr. Romine. I was very specific when making my appointment that I would only use Dr. Romine. Thus, I waited over a month and a half for an appointment with her. I reconfirmed my appointment with her the week before when I called to check the address. I arrived this morning 20 minutes early to fill out paperwork. When I was finally brought back a PA was going to ask me questions before my visit with the Dr… not Dr. Romine. I said that my appointment was with Dr. Romine and she said I was scheduled with a different Dr. This must be their normal procedure because the same thing happened to my friend there a few weeks ago. I was told Dr. Romine was booked. When I objected and said I wouldn’t meet with the other Dr. The PA left and said she’d see what she could do. After 10 minutes I went to the desk and asked for all of the paperwork I filled out to be returned. At this time I was told they would try to work me in. I decided I couldn’t stay at a facility with such poor customer service and underhanded practices. I also called my primary Dr., told her my experience and that of my friend and asked her to not recommend this office.

This was my first visit to a derm. I had an appt with the PA, but Dr. R took the time to come in and introduce herself to me– which I thought was a very nice touch. I was seen on time and didn’t have to wait long. New office is beautiful and convenient location to my home. Skin check went well. I had some little white bumps on my forehead and was interested in retinol for anti-​aging purposes. The PA prescribed me Atralin, but did not give any detailed instructions on how to use or side effects. I started to use daily and it tore up my skin. Even cutting back to only 2x a week was still causing breakouts. Eventually after 6 weeks, I spoke to a friend of mine in FL who is a PA for a derm and she asked what other products I had been using. All in all, it was not compatible with my current regimen.
I liked the office and will certainly go back, but I know to ask for more detail.

Wonderful front desk staff smiled right when I walked it. Saw Molly M, who was very pleasant and helpful. Beautiful office and well organized. I was able to get an appointment last minute too!

My entire family has been coming to CD for years. The entire team from greeting me at the desk to Dr. Romine herself, has the best attitude and professionalism.
Laser hair removal to injections to normal up keep.

Found Dr Romina on Phoenix mag listed best dermatologist. I tried botox and filler which made no difference at all. Wasted almost 1500 $. Dr said she made me look natural! I am still in my 20’s not that I need a lot of filler/​botox. Also had facial peeling, aesthetician spilled the chemical on my lip which caused dark spot!

I was extremely disapointed. I was not see by Dr. Romine. The nurse was very rude and looked at her computer the entire time she was speaking to me while in the room.
The doctor came in and was not informed as to why I scheduled appointment in the first place. I requested a full body check and to have some sun/​age spots removed.
I was told I would have to come because they were to busy. BUT they did have time to tell me all about the cosmetic products for sale for 15 minutes.
I didn’t feel this was how I remembered her practice when I previously went when they were on 44^th street.
I will NOT be back and feel that they hustled that side of the business instead of treating me as a patient first.
Sad to say this was a waste of my time and my money.

Beautiful new offices at 40^th street and Campbell, but apparently their clocks don’t work. Just sat there for 60 minutes past my 8:45 am appointment time, and no one saw me. Had to leave for a meeting. If I was in customer service there, I would remind the doctors that their customers’ time is more valuable than their own.

Very thorough, I was referred here for a mole patrol last year and went here for a follow up a year after. On my follow up 15 minutes later, I was checked head to toe and given the all clear. No cancer, and they provided an good explanation of some hyper pygmentation on my ankles. I’m not giving up my ankle socks, but appreciate the explanation. From this fair skinned man, thanks Camelback Dermatology.
