Capri on Camelback

I seriously had the best experience with there staff everyone was attentive responsive and they worked as a team to make my move as comfortable as possible. Maryjo was my leasing agent and she is very educated about the property and made my leasing experience a breeze. I rented the apt site UNSEEN because how well her customer service was! She painted the picture and when I showed up for a tour it was exact! :) There team is great AWESOME MANAGER! the breezeways are clean, the pool is AWESOME! Grills are clean. Love it. Cant wait to shop at that store! They even deliver food!

If I could give 0 stars I would. I lived in this dump for a year before my lease was up. Don’t be fooled — at first glance these apartments are decent. Until you realize that you can’t control your air conditioning, almost every week they are shutting off the electricity/​water/​you name it to do «repairs» and the management staff are scum just looking to make money any way possible. Do yourself a favor and don’t make the mistake of living here.

You do not get to control your AC! They don’t care how hot it gets in your apartment. Super hot in my apartment and they refuse to turn on the AC. Absolutely ridiculous

I lived at Capri for 2.5 years and I can honestly say I enjoyed my time there. It is a great location and great price. My 1 start review results in how things came to an end with the complex. An electrical fire happened the night of June 28 2015 resulting in 85 of us homeless due to no electricity. We received notes on our doors that we needed to vacate in 72 hours. Luckily I was not on the first floor where the fire was, so my belongings were not damaged nor was myself or my dog home at the time. Our two options were; move back in, in 4 – 6 weeks when the building was restored or be let out of our lease early. I was forced to not only spend my week working, but coming back «home» in the evening to pack up, arrange a new location to live, store my things, rent a moving truck and recruit help to move. I spoke to the ladies in the Leasing office several times throughout the week after asking a valid question, «who is paying for the expenses i’m incurring from moving?» The only answer I received was, «contact your renters insurance.» which I already had. I was not the only one asking these questions as you can imagine, and you could tell they had taken a beating and were acting like robots with their responses. All I was looking for was a solution and received nothing. What about the people who had no where to go? What about the people who could not afford pay for a storage unit or moving truck or to sign a new lease elsewhere? Being forced to not only handle these things solely on my own but spend close to $ 1,000 in the months that I have been displaced is something that I will not let go unheard. Not only that I received a bill in the mail for unreturned keys, laundry cards (which were packed up as you can imagine), and electric from the month of June. Grey Star is large company, owning many properties throughout the valley and should have a resolution in place for their residence when something like this happens. After speaking to a lawyer I’ve determined the best coarse of action is to take Grey Star to small claims court to recover my expenses I incurred from being forced to relocate from no fault of my own. An unfortunate end to what could have been a ⁴⁄₅ stare review. Save yourself all of this trouble and live elsewhere. I wish I had.

I was just on the phone with the leasing agent she was quite rude, when I said the website is not working she said, were not Mac compliant, not many people use them. Then she said I can’t hear you, can you please find a better place to call me from. Customer service is obviously not their strength.

LOCATION
Location, location. In my opinion, Capri is located in the most prime area in Phoenix. Its close to everything. During the spring, winter and fall, Vincents French Restaurant has a farmers market which is one of my favorites. Its great to walk over there (across the street), grab a bite and walk back.
PRICE
Due to location, I’m surprised that the rental rates arent higher. The rental prices can drastically differ for two of the same exact same apartments. Heres how it works. It has four floors. The higher the floor, the more expensive. The 4^th floor has all the upgrades which makes them more expensive. Its well worth it in my opinion. If there are two studios on the 4^th floor, the rent can differ by hundreds depening upon view. The ones facing Camelback Mtn are more pricey, but your view doesnt just include the mountain. It includes a view of overgrown bushes, weeds, tacky telephone lines and poles which are tipping over as well as overfillled dumpsters. The same price difference applies to those facing 40^th st. That view is much better in my opinion than the mountain one. If you opt for a chaper apartment that faces the interior courtyard, please beware!!! The walkways that go throughout the courtyards are extremely rough and not smooth. They havnt been repaved in years. Every monday, wednesday and friday its trash day. Every building has two dumpsters and there are like 10 buildings. The garbage men roll these 20 metal dumpsters over the rough walkways 3 days a week starting at 5:30 a.m. It takes them over 90 minutes to do so. Not only will it wake you, but youll feel am earthquake type of vibration. This is one of the most annoying downfalls of the complex. Its very very loud. There are only a couple properties in Phoenix that advertise ‘utilities included’. Capri is one (sort of). The complex says it includes the electricity (aka air conditioning). Beware, you must pay for the electricity your plug in outlets use but its based on a building average. The more electricity people in your building use the higher the average which means the more you pay. In addition to your base rent, the average electric, water and trash all come to about $ 25-​$ 30. Plan on paying about $ 30 more than the base rent for your utilities.

Having the Air Conditioning included is a great thing. There are some downfalls of it. The complex was build in 1969. The AC system is from 1969. Its called a chiller system. There is a pipe that runs through all the apartments. Below this pipe is a radiator. The cold water going through the pipe produces condensation which runs down the radiator, like a swamp cooler. The ONLY way to cool down your apartment is to have your fan on and in a certain direction. The wind from the fan blows the air from the cold water back down into the apartment. The pipe and radiator are covered by a covering. The heat works the same way. You need to know there is a master switch though. You can not turn on the air and heat whenever you want. Omce the temperature reaches 5 consecutive days over 95 or 100 degrees, the complex turns on the a/​c master switch. Same with the heat and I think it’s 5 consecutive days of 45 or 50 degrees for them to turn it on. You do have control of how hot or cold it gets but its conditional of your fan and its direction. The great thing is that the thermostat goes down to 55 degrees and it does get that low during the summer if you set the temperature at 55.

Bed bugs ‼‼‼‼The second week I move to Capri someone told me they had bed bugs in the building. I didn’t Believe them ! I should of listen because I have bed bugs now. Don’t move here. You will end up with bed bugs. And the office doesn’t care they will blame it all on you.

So I’ve lived here since February. It’s weird cause when I got mad at the maintenance guy about the fire alarm being pulled it hasn’t happened since. So maybe he’s the one pulling it? Who knows. But! There’s more problems. All of the pipes are connected through every single apartment. I’ll come home some days and my entire apartment smells so bad because other people just stuff anything and everything down their garbage disposal and it ends up in my pipes. It’s DISGUSTING. Also, they waste A LOT of water. They water the grass every few hours and the sprinklers don’t turn off until the grass is flooded and muddy. And now the shower that’s at the pool has been leaking a lot of water for at least 2 weeks. Like we live in a desert, we can’t afford to be wasting all of this water! They also STILL haven’t fixed the air conditioner in the workout room. That’s all for now. I’ll update more later.

2 words: Bed Bugs.
I could seriously write for DAYS about this god awful place, all you need to know is — your life here will be miserable. RUN for the damn hills.

I am moving to the area in a few weeks and stopped by to see these apartments. They looked great on Zillow, so I thought I should check them out. The office hours are posted online and onsite as open until 6 pm. I arrived with my daughter at 5:30 and was met by a middle aged woman, clearly a heavy smoker by her demeanor and smell. I asked for information, and she said, «have you looked online?» I said yes, that is how I found you and then asked to see an apartment. She said that there was a cut off for showings and she had to get her paperwork done so she refused. I said, look, your hours are posted, we are the only people here (an absolute fact) and it would only take a few minutes. SHE REFUSED TO SHOW THE APARTMENT!!! During posted hours ½ hour before close! And when I asked her about some bizarre things regarding how the charge and air condition the apartment (according to her you have little or now control and the building doesn’t allow separate control… only sort for which she wouldn’t explain!
I wouldn’t rent here if it were the last apartment complex in Phoenix. Disgusting and rude staff for starters, and oh, it is not as nearly as nice in person than the pics. Skip it and don’t waste your time.

I lived at the Capri from January 2014 to February 2015. I knew a couple people who lived here before and heard decent reviews. It was close to my work and I knew utilities would be included so those were two pluses right off the bat. Then the honeymoon phase wore off…
Pros: Cheap-​ish, utilities included, walking distance from Fresh and Easy.
Like you’ve seen on some of the other reviews, it seems as though an IQ test is not a requirement to live here. People park like they have never driven a car. Good luck finding a spot because 25% of the residents can’t park properly and take up 2 spots. The grounds are not kept clean. I myself never saw any cockroaches except for my first week. So that wasn’t a huge issue. But nobody picks up after their pets… I’m convinced someone has a horse there by the size of some of the messes that are left. Shopping carts are stashed under stairs for God knows why. I can’t tell you how many times we were woken up to the blaring sound of fire alarms at midnight or later.
We also had an issue where our AC couldn’t be turned off. We understood that central air meant I couldn’t regulate temperature but I should be able to turn it off?! After having the worker come out and rig it so I couldn’t turn it back on, he left saying the job was complete. Whatever I only had a couple months left there. Only to find out by my girlfriend that a worker let himself in early the next morning and ran out when she entered the living room. This kind of stuff is UNACCEPTABLE!!!
And my FAVORITE feature of Capri… they like to drag the loud ass dumpsters through the complex at 7am on Sundays and Wednesdays. And then they leave them in the already cramped parking lot as a kind of obstacle course for the morning commuters.
Do yourself a favor and pay a little more to live somewhere else.

at first glance, i really wanted to move into this place. it looked like everything i could ever want in a apartment complex. but the women working here are quite the two faced bitches. very unwelcoming unless you give them money. i felt extremely pressured to sign a lease here even tho i wanted to wait and think about it. i did not think to look on Unilocal until the day i signed. and when i read all the roach reviews on Unilocal,i quickly went back and cancelled my decision to move in. the woman then started giving me attitude claiming she never saw a roach here. bullshit. i asked to see the exterminator records as every complex has them. all the complaints on Unilocal are true! there were so many postings with the reason stating roaches here. like SO MANY!!! do not move in here unless you like these things. the infestation here is out of control and they hide it well! you will never know if an apartment has roaches if you go in the day, many roaches come out at night so it is hard to tell. you must inform yourself first before looking at a place here. there were roach droppings in all those hard to clean places but i saw no roach when i came. but the book doesnt lie, the woman will lie to your face too! beware!

I can’t believe I ever wanted to live here.
This place is the absolute worst. I think it has potential. Unfortunately the staff is atrocious. The main reason I chose not lease. My two friends and I met here on a Saturday to look at the one bedrooms. We walk in and I already think the place is cool/​unique. We see the lady who says hello and welcome to Capri. The SECOND thing she says to us is «Now if you want a tour, we are gonna have to make it quick; we close soon.» Mind you– we showed up 50 minutes before closing! I can tell by your voice your a good time /​heavy smoker but I think you can make a tour of a 1 bedroom in under 30 minutes! After the tour I really enjoyed the property and apartments. However, the lovely lady attempted to insult me by saying «Yeah, of course we would rather love in old town Scottsdale. But if this is what you can afford…» This place is a joke. My friends and I still die when discussing our visit here. #trashystaff

Just an update to my previous review. Here’s a suggestion to the management: Why are you charging someone twice for utilities when they move out? When someone gives their sixty day notice just combine the charges for those final two months in just one bill instead of two separate billing statements.

This place is horrible for so many reasons! Let’s start with the bugs, smell, safety and staff! The bugs are ridiculous! I wake to them almost every morning. The smell is old and musty and despite my attempts, it doesn’t go away. Some of the neighbors are great, some are just straight out stalker crazy and the staff took no ownership in my and/​or the safety of my children. And to make matters worse, the staff and clearly for the benefit of the owners, are money hungry munchers! They nickel and dime you for everything, from parking spaces, to move in/​out costs, etc. The washers and dryers are disgusting and of much need of renevation. It’s located in a great part of town and Arcadia, is definately my favorite place to live and you expect the modernized, 50 style building, but this place is a joke! Save your money and buy in the neighborhood! This place is no where to live!

If I could give less, I would. Moved out about a year ago and paid the redo lupus made up fees, yet they are trying to continue to bill me. They give no explanation as to the $ 500 in fees and reply to my emails in a very unprofessional manor.
The apartment was fine, but the other tenants are awful. Shopping carts left everywhere, roaches, loud people at all hours and the most annoying thing would have to be the smell of trash and the noise of dragging the dumpsters every Sunday morning at 7AM
JUST DONT BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE

By far one of the most horrible places I have ever lived! I am a traveling RN and the original appeal to Capri was the inexpensive short term lease options and small security deposits. The location of the apt and the pool area are also very nice. Walking distance to some neat places and safe neighborhood. That sums up the positives.
There are a few staff members in the leasing office that are very rude. Not to mention their unprofessionalism but they are constantly out on the open patios smoking through out the day. If you call and no one answers, it is most likely because Patty and Selma are on a smoke break.
We called about simple maintenance issues (backed up drain, AC not working well, exhaust fan problems, etc) and the little maintenance man simply said they were fine and walked out. We fixed the drain ourselves, but the other issues never got fixed.
There is no covered parking unless you want to pay more or possibly park in the complete opposite end of your apt.
So then there were the roaches… which I get that sometimes you get bugs when you live in an apt… you cant control what your dirty neighbors are doing. Capri sends a guy to spray and I ask if its safe for my dogs and he says probably. =0 The last straw was the 9 volt battery sized roaches we saw in the hallway frequently… or maybe the things getting stolen off our ground level patio… or the rotten musty urine smell of the grounds area… or the funny guy that would pull the fire alarm at 1am on a consistent basis.
We lasted one month out of our 6 month lease. The leasing office was unwilling to work with us on subletting the apt and the fees to terminate a lease early were outrageous. However, they did agree to take off the pet fees once we explained that we weren’t staying there anymore. Strangely though– no one ever asked why, which makes me think this may happen frequently? We have continued to pay the rent even though we don’t live there, that’s how bad it was. The only way this place would seem acceptable to me is if the rent was decreased by a few hundred/​month and you didn’t mind living in filth.

During my stay at Capri I always had a decent experience.
The grounds were clean, the dogs were leashed, and the maintenance was always quick with repairs. There was a mild bug problem when I moved in but that was quickly addressed.
The parking is a nightmare unless you buy a space at extra cost and the lack of recycling always puzzled me.
Overall though, not too bad.

After living a Capri almost 12 months I am finally getting out of this wretched place! The entire complex wreaks of pet urine and feces and maintenance does nothing to clean it up. For being in such a great neighborhood it’s sad this complex could not be managed better. After many conversations with management it’s clear there only concern is collecting the rent and they have no interested in improving the property. Renter be ware, stay away from this place!

We have lived here for 4 months and these last two months of the remaining lease are becoming unbearable. Place is a complete DUMP!
Throughout the entire summer our AC has NEVER worked. We have been living in 85 degree conditions in our apt and asked maintenance to come up 6 times before they finally «fixed it». Only after we threatened to stop paying! The sales people in the main office are beyond rude, have zero respect for the residents that actually PAY to live there and always seem bothered when you come in to speak with them. Even if it’s to pick up a package.
Like everyone else has mentioned the place REEKS of trash throughout the halls, parking lot, and permeates through the apt. Washing clothes is a huge pain — the laundry card refill machines are always broken and the property claims they can do nothing about it if they are broken. ALWAYS make sure you have enough money on your card before you start laundry.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday is trash pick up. The maintenance team drag all of the dumpsters from the entire property to the parking lot, thus blocking all the cars from getting to work in the morning. My recommendation is to park as far away as possible otherwise have fun moving a NASTY/​SMELLY dumpster before heading to work. The maintenance team is not quick to move them after the dump truck comes. In addition, there is a repulsive sewer smell that comes from the bathroom sink, which we have been told — just poor bleach down it. Excuse me, how about you clean and flush you pipes! It is so foul, it makes us gag and we have to leave the apt.
The pool could be nice, except everyone out their feels the need to smoke, thus ruining a relaxing setting by the pool for those that do not smoke.
There is constantly trash all around the property, poop from people not picking after their pets. Our fire alarm doesn’t know the difference between hot shower steam and heat from a fire, bc it constantly goes off every time we take a shower.
Lately, for the past three weeks our hot water has been spotty. This morning, once again, we woke up to an ice cold shower with no email to residents as to why this has been happening.
I don’t care if this place was next to The Ritz Carlton and you had access to everything you ever needed, I would pay no amount of money to EVER live in this dump! Save your money and the stress of living at this «so-​called resort style living». Trust me — IT’S FAR FROM IT!
