First United Methodist Church of Phoenix

We’ve been members here for nearly 10 years and while I like the church, I’m frustrated by a few of its elements.
1. The Methodist Church assigns new ministers every 2 to 3 years. This lack of continuity means that the business manager is the only one with experience and thus basically runs the show. It also means that there’s no reason to get close to any minister as good or bad, they won’t be around for long.
2. I get that they are trying to appeal to a younger crowd and likely attempting to ensure the long-​term survival of the congregation, but just adding a few flat screens and having 70’s guitar music at the 9:00 am service isn’t enough to keep younger generations engaged.
3. Sunday services are at 9:00 and 11:00 with Sunday School at 10:00 am. Sure, I’d like to send my kids to Sunday School, but I want them to do that while we’re in the 9:00 am service, not after. Personally, I have no desire to go to an Adult Bible Study or other class at 10:00 am and while I guess we could just go get coffee or something, this scheduling choice just means I’m going to lose another hour of my Sunday.
While its a nice facility and the people are always nice, this church just doesn’t give me a compelling reason to want to show up on a regular basis.
