Focal Point Salon

After reading all the great reviews I decided to make my 82 year old grandmother an appointment at Focal Point. I called and specifically asked for someone who knew how to do older women’s hair, she wanted a cut and style. You know the style, short and curly — grandma hair. They recommended Chrissy. Though Chrissy was very sweet, she had no idea what she was doing. $ 84 later my grandmother left with a mop on her head. Extremely short and STRAIGHT hair, she wasn’t picking up on the clue’s my grandma was putting out either. We immediately went to another salon, had to get it recut and styled. The new stylist was so shocked, she showed me chunks of the most uneven hair I’ve ever seen. Honestly the worst experience we’ve had at a salon, sadly we won’t be back.

Fantastic place. If your a guy and want the best haircut and experience, go see Michael Mason. Awesome dude with some skill. Great all around guy, and I’ve never received a better haircut. He even does a FREE 2 week check up to make sure your always looking fresh. Each agent works independent of each other and I’ve only ever used Michael, there’s no reason not too. He takes his time to learn what you want and doesn’t rush. So be sure and set your appointment with him, I’ll be back ever 2 weeks.

I am new to the area and of course, I need a hair salon. A co-​worker suggested I go to Focal Point because she loves it there so I took a look first at Unilocal and then their website.
Lauren is passionate about blonde hair so I scheduled an appt with her. Now, yes, I know it’s a little crazy to go straight color with someone you don’t know, but the reviews were solid and I had a good feeling so I made an appt with Lauren. It was last night and… survey says?
This place is fantastic!
Lauren is great and conducted an initial consult with me. We talked about the look I was going for and how to achieve it and what would look best. She was easy to talk with and immediately made me feel at ease. When she went to mix the color, I had no concerns about the end results.
After quickly getting the color on, it processed in no time flat. I was taken back to the lather lounge to rinse and nearly fell asleep because it was so relaxing. Lauren did a quick trim and began blowdrying. As soon as I saw the color, my eyes turned to giant plates. It was beautiful. I’ve had a couple of great stylist before, but Lauren raised the bar to levels i didn’t think possible. My hair looked stunning and I felt like a new person.
I strongly recommend Focal Point salon and while I think Lauren is awesome, I was able to watch another stylist at work while there and she was equally impressive. I don’t think you can go wrong there. Everyone seems friendly and knowledgeable.
Check them out… you will not be disappointed.
*I gave a rating of 4 stars because I’ve only been there once and usually reserve 5 starts for consistent excellence… when I return in October for my next appt, I am sure I will amend this to a 5 star rating*

I’ve gone to focal point 3 different times. 2 of those times were awesome! Obviously why I kept returning. Cora used to do my hair and she was great and so nice. My highlights always looked perfect. I got pregnant so didn’t get color until after my baby. Unfortunately cora no longer worked there when I made an appointment… So had to take an appointment with Damaris. She was very friendly upon meeting her. Told her what I wanted. and she got started. It always takes a long time for me getting my hair done but this one was by far the longest I’ve ever had. I was never offered a drink, magazine and it was like pulling teeth to get her to have a convo. I was bummed after all it was my first time pampering myself after baby and was hoping it was going to be great. Anyways after about 5 hours and 300 bucks later I walked out decently happy with how it looked… At least until later inspection of my roots underneath the top layer of hair… Horrible job! Worst highlight I’ve ever had and most expensive. Go figure. Definitely finding a new salon

Lauren is amazing. She really has a great way with colors and adding dimensions to your hairstyle. She’s creative and innovated and stays on top of all the latest trends. I’ve been going to Focal Point for several years now and they have consistently done a great job. When something doesn’t go right (schedule or whatever) the staff always makes it right. Definitely check them out. There’s not a bad stylist in the joint.

I had a cut and full head of highlights from Damaris last week. She really listened to what I wanted in the way of cut and colour and had great suggestions of how to make that happen and what would suit me best. She did an amazing job of the colour so that my roots will blend in as my hair grows out and the colour is beautiful and natural looking. The cut is stylish manageable and best of all suits my face. It’s a great salon, really nice and not at all snooty. All the staff seem to be very nice and I saw great hair cuts and colours walking out the door while I was there. Damaris is lovely and does great work — I’m a very happy new customer and am looking forward to many more visits.

I love this place! The salon itself is fantastic! It’s very clean and I really like the modern set up but best of all the staff is friendly! Everyone who walks by smiles at you, which makes a really comfortable environment. As far as my hairstylist, I always go to Lindsey! She always does a great job on my hair! She is the best! I can’t say enough about how great this this place is but I will add that I would recommend Focal Point Salon to my friends and family. Thank you Lindsey!

Oh my word! Not enough can be said how amazing this place is. Kaylee was beyond terrific. (Not sure when was the last time I used ‘terrific’) but she seriously was. So, the last time I got a haircut was about a year and a half ago. Yeah, so I hate getting my haircut because it never turns out how I want. Soft bangs turn into a bowl cut, just a trim brings out the electric razor… those kind of haircuts. All to say I was real nervous to get it cut but from the second I walked in, I felt at ease. Kaylee is so approachable and down to earth to where I didn’t feel like I had to pretend to be edgier than I am, I feel like that in some salons. Where I have to rationalize to the stylist why I don’t want blue streaks or half of my head shaved. Great ideas, just not for me. Kaylee was super helpful with getting me the right bangs that work for my little porker of a face. She was able to make my hair look new and refreshed without taking off half of it. Love her, love this place. High five!

I recently visited Focal Point had Kaylee cut & color my hair and she is so talented! The salon is super cute and the stylists all seem amazing. The front desk staff is also superior to most salons I have visited. Very helpful! I would highly recommend Kaylee!

My sister lives in Phoenix, and this is her salon. My fiancé and I booked our venue from NYC and became husband and wife in Scottsdale. So, my sister booked the services of Kayla (Hair Stylist) and Kaylee (makeup artist). Wow! They were an awesome team! I made sure to book an appointment a couple days before the wedding with Kayla for a «dry-​run» and demo-​permanent coloring on my hairdo. Professional, responsible, and excellent at their crafts, Kayla and Kaylee checked in with me the night before the wedding, and then came to my room the morning of the wedding and did the hair and makeup of all of the women in my wedding party (six). Not bad for a 10:30am ceremony! They worked quickly and seamlessly, having all of the equipment they needed and the calm attitudes they needed to keep everything light and fun! The prices were extremely reasonable for wedding services and they were punctual and all business. Which I appreciated when I was a little nervous we might take too long! Definitely use their services. They listen and are very good. I didn’t get a haircut but Kayla does my sisters hair, and she always looks gorgeous.

I have had Kayla as my stylist ever since she was in school, and she has always done an amazing job!
I used to live in Wickenburg and would travel to Scottsdale for my appointments. I now live in Lake Havasu City and STILL drive to Scottsdale to have Kayla do my hair!
Kayla listens to me and always respects my wishes and she knows what would look good on me. Sometimes she’ll talk me into doing something a little different, and it always turns out great.
The salon is beautiful. Adrian is always so helpful when I call and when I come in. Oh, and you get a free hand and arm massage, AND get to have a glass of wine while getting your hair done. What could be better than that?

I like to think of myself as a guy’s guy. I like going off-​roading, grilling raw hunks of meat, not talking much, hiding my feelings — you know, man stuff.
For years I have been going to a Russian guy with a thick accent and a penchant for showing me inappropriate pictures of his girlfriend. He’s odd and has terrible taste in women, but he’s cheap, so every once in a while when I think of it, I pop by and get chopped.
My wife has mocked me for years, comparing the results to «the flailings of a blind weed-​whacker», but hey, as I said, I’m a guy. What do I care what my hair looks like?
With that said, our anniversary was approaching and I thought I might do something new and try to spruce up for our big night out.
Well, that’s not entirely correct. My wife suggested that my head looked like a hay-​stack without the charm and symmetry and «if you expect to go out with me looking like that, you’ve got another thing coming.»
I, completely of my own volition and under no pressure whatsoever, decided to go with a friend’s recommendation and book an appointment with Wendi at the Focal Point Salon.
Entering any establishment with the word «Salon» in the name is grounds for losing one’s «Man Card», but what did I care if it could make my precious bit of sunshine happy?
With trepidation and no small reluctance, I set my mouth into a grim line and drove the few miles to the Focal Point Salon, hoping that I wouldn’t come out smelling like flowers or carrying a purse.
The guy and girl at the front desk were friendly and professional, offered me a drink, and told me Wendi would be ready for me in just a few minutes.
I suppose I could describe the pleasant atmosphere, the friendly people, the arm massage (seriously — a girl comes over and massages your arm with lotion), but the important piece of the puzzle and the lead I’ve buried is Wendi.
She’s fantastic.
She’s friendly without being nosy, skilled without being flashy, and and has an instinctive ability to make you look your best.
I didn’t know what I wanted and told her to just use her best judgment.
«Make me look good,» I said, chuckling to myself at the futility of the request.
Somehow, she did. For about $ 40 bucks, she took the mess on the top of my head and made it look like it was intentional and stylish.
She didn’t rush, but she didn’t meander either, and it makes sense because her whole day was booked up. The only reason I got her on short notice was that she’d had a cancellation.
Before I knew it, we were done and I was out the door, none the worse for wear and a new convert.
All-​in-​all, it was a great experience and I have nothing but the highest recommendation for Wendi and the Focal Point Salon.
Five Stars. Book Wendi — she’s awesome and won’t show you creepy pictures of lumpy Russian women.

It was my first time visiting this salon, the atmosphere and my stylist, Chad, were both amazing! I received exactly what I asked for. We all know one of the best parts of getting your hair done is the shampoo, focal point out did this by offering a complimentary hand message while being shampooed. I completely recommend visiting Chad at Focal Point!

This place was very nice. The inside was awesome, made me feel high class. I had Savannah, she was awesome and wanted to get my hair exactly how I wanted it to look. It bit pricey for me… But overall, job well done.

Just got back from a last-​minute decision to chop off all my hair! It was quite a bit past my shoulders and I decided it was time for a pixie cut! I called Focal Point because I’m new to AZ and saw great reviews on Unilocal.The lady on the phone said that I could be there in 10 minutes, they could get me in that day. I drove out there and met Chad, my stylist. He did a great job doing what I asked (I had a picture) and made sure that it would fit my face/​hair type. He was really nice and I could tell he knew what he was doing. He showed me how to style it and made recommendations for product to use. It wasn’t pushy like some salons, just ideas he had that would help me make my hair look great. I recommend the salon and Chad!

I love Focal Point. Wendi does such a fantastic job coloring and cutting my hair. I always feel fabulous when I leave.

I found Focal Point through one of my friends who hired Maria to do hair for her wedding. She did such an amazing job, I started going to her and hired to her to do my wedding as well. She’s really talented, and a perfectionist too. She really listens to want you want, and gives great advice on how to care for your hair. The salon is very upscale, clean, and in a nice area. They also offer complimentary hand massages while you get your hair washed.

Our regular hairstylist recently switched salons so we followed. Neither my husband nor I had been here previously, but the location is fantastic for us. It’s practically down the street from our work, so we can swing by on our way home — super convenient! (Also, it’s near a Whole Foods, which is great.)
The inside of the salon is nice and modern with tons of vibrant colors. It’s brightly lit without seeming harsh. (This is a plus; I like my hairstylist to see what she’s doing!) The hair washing station is fabulous. It’s darker than the rest of the salon, but there’s a waterfall and TV screens with fishies! This definitely puts me in a relaxing mood.
Overall, the staff is friendly, courteous, and professional. My husband had his hair cut here two times now. Both times he came away happy and satisfied. I had my hair dyed and trimmed. The color was great and I looked good! Our hairstylist on all occasions was Sabel Shea — who is fabulous by the way!
Both the husband and I like coming here and will definitely be back!

I am someone who LOVES hair and will only go to a stylist I trust. I moved to Scottsdale a year ago and decided to try Focal Point Salon. My stylist is Damaris and she is amazing. She is professional, courteous, and always staying on top of the latest hair trends/​techniques. I LOVE to experiment with my hair and am always asking for a change whether it’s hacking my hair off or a slight tweak to color. She offers suggestions and is always striving to make me happy.
My focus is how well the service on my hair is performed but additional bonus’s include a hand and arm massage during hair washing, complimentary beverages (yes wine and beer is served to legal adults), and the staff are all so friendly.
I will continue to go to Focal Point salon and see Damaris as long as I can.

The Pros: Everything! I’ve been offered a drink at each of my three visits and between the mimosa, cucumber water and Tucate beer, I think there’s something for every mood. My stylist, Maria, is fantastic and really worked with me to address my questions and hair concerns and provided some great recommendations. Its also the first time that I’ve had a stylist ask me about my hair routine and how I style it daily, to better help me achieve the results I’m looking for. I’ve loved everything we’ve done so far to my hair and I’m looking forward to trying an ombré color in my next appointment in a few weeks. I should mention that I have fine, shoulder length hair and Maria was recommended to me when I called and requested an appointment the first time.
Additionally, the salon is clean and very modern inside. The wash area is fantastic with massaging chairs, an unbelievable head massage while you are shampoo’d, the additional complimentary hand and arm massage and the fish swimming by on the above TV screen. It feels like I’m at a spa every time I visit! I love that! I can’t say enough good things about my experience and have recommended the salon to all my friends!
The con: The only one I could come up with is that their chairs are incredibly hot! I was told they were going to be replaced soon though so hopefully that happens before my next appointment!
