History

Established in 1948.

In 1948 Otis Garnand opened APCO auto parts in Phoenix; and eventually had several locations including 1 outside Phoenix @ 2924 E Thomas. His son James ‘Otis’ Garnand took over and years later APCO had evolved into APCO Hi Tech Car Care. Now with the 3rd generation in charge — Jim Garnand, still at 2924 East Thomas Road but were no longer on outskirts of Phoenix. A couple other things which have not changed at Hi-​Tech Car Care are high quality & dedication to customer service — customer service that sets Hi-​Tech apart from other shops.

When Grandfather Otis first opened his shop, he knew that customer service would set him apart from others in the car repair business. Car repair or maintenance disrupts the daily routine of our customers, so we try to make the disruption as painless as possible. From chauffeuring our customers or helping rent a vehicle to test driving a vehicle, not once but twice before releasing it. We perform automotive service — Our business is customer service.

James Garnand is the third generation in his family to own this business. He and his technicians make every effort to customize the service to you and your vehicle. They promise to let you know what services are needed versus recommended or perhaps non-​essential.

Very clean, welcoming and fast shop with plenty of service bays. They accommodated my schedule, gave me a list of things that needed service and an estimated timeline for each. They asked what I wanted to take care of now and I only chose the urgent items. They got things done and I have been back several times since. I have been a customer for 5 years now and this is my first review. I am a fan of high tech.

Hi-​Tech provided me with the best experience I’ve ever had with an auto shop. I brought it in for a blown head gasket after the car kept overheating, and turned out the gasket was blown because the motor block was cracked and there were only 1800 cars of the same model made with this motor block; needless to say, they put a ton of time and work into it. They kept me updated every few days as to the progress of the vehicle, and the best part? It would have cost $ 4000 for all of the repairs, but through coordinating with my previous mechanic who had done poor work, a parts warranty company, and eating a ton of costs to help me out, they only charged me $ 1600. They were extremely thorough in their work, and I absolutely trust them. This is the only shop I’ll be taking my car to, and I recommend it to anybody.

I am pretty honest with my reviews so this one I am adjusting as a second time using this shop. First impression is its clean and has quite a few bays. In this area it looks the most impressive to the eye. My first time in James assisted me and was kind and told me that they found out my car was acting up because some sensors needed to be replaced. I paid around 280. A day later same issues with the car. Keep in mind this business is closed weekends so for people who are like me working Monday through Friday 8 to 5 this isn’t ideal to keep coming back. Finally after three weeks I stopped in and he said an engine mount was broken. I called the following day when I had more time and he then gave me a quote over a 1000 dollars. I asked if he was kidding. I told him I cannot pay that and it would be a waste of my time and his so was going to wash this business off my hands. But then James says oh no it will not be a waste of your time and to bring my car in hinting they can help me out a little. I go in and take off work and he tells me a quote again of over 1100 dollars and says the other mounts are going to break soon. He looks me in the eye and says all soft spoken Kim your car needs some loving care. It’s time!!! I started at him and luckily held back what I wanted to say. First of all I am in sales so I get they up charge you for labor and parts by a bit buy what a flipping joke. Don’t try and screw over a 27 year old girl who hs lots of other bills and act like you’re a nice ethical business. I ended up going to a shop in Scottsdale and they charged me 250 for the actual Nissan mount I needed and a new belt which I also knew I needed. My loyalty is now to an ethical business who sat down with me and showed me what another business was trying to screw me over on. End of rant!!! But no I will never be back!

I wouldn’t recommend this shop to anyone! The guy at the front counter James was extremely hostile to me, I kept asking questions about my car and he had no patience on explaining exactly what needed to be done to my car. I know my car isn’t perfect I just wanted someone to explain things better to me. He made me feel un-​welcomed and that I was more of a bother than a customer. Needless to say I didn’t get any work done and I’m glad I didn’t Still looking for a good shop.

I’ve gone to this shop for years, and have always found them to deliver quality work at a fair price. But my last 2 trips in, I’ve become a little disenfranchised. It seems they have become more interested in upselling services than just quoting the work that is totally necessary. Perhaps a list of a) what needs to be done today to fix your problem, and b) here’s what you’re going to need down the road and should start thinking about. In my previous two trips, I’ve opted out of the more elaborate services, and my car has run fine. Just feel a shift in philosophy I really don’t appreciate.

They almost got me on what they said was a «blown head gasket» when it was actually a bad mass air flow sensor. The head gasket repair would have cost about $ 2,000 dollars while the sensor repair cost was $ 100. It’s really abhorrent that they tried to take advantage of me at such a deplorable level. Shame on High-​Tech Car Care.

These guys saved my day. Was on the highway and something was dragging from my car they looked at it immediately and fixed it within 15 minutes. They didn’t even charge me! Such nice genuine guys. I can’t be more appreciative. Will be back for sure!

Once again these guys came through for me on a truck that would not pass emissions. I sent it to a mechanic near my office but they were unable to resolve the issue. I love that I can count on these guys and know that the job will get done right. If you want great results this is your best option. I dropped off my truck on Monday and it was finished by Wednesday, considering this was fixed twice by someone else that took over a week that is phenomenal. Thank you Hi Tech!

Took my car here to have my alignment done and check the suspension for a crunch sound when going over speedbumps. Quoted me $ 2,800 for just short of a whole new suspension system on front and back. Even said that the alignment could not be done until this work was complete.
Took the car to another shop, oddly right in front of this place, and a new set of tires and $ 500 later for a control arm bushings and alignment and I’m down the road.
In short, if something seems off… Get a second opinion.

My wife and I brought our 2001 Jeep Liberty into their location to get an estimate on:
— A broken brake cap.
— Brake fluid flush.
— A/​C not working.
We left it with them and came back with an estimate of 2,552.00. The break down was:
— Brake Fluid Flush (175.15).
— A/​C Compressor (1,144.36).
— A/​C Conditioning service (193.03).
They also said we needed our strut assembly replaced (both sides) (729.62).
They also said we needed alignment (99.95).
This estimate seemed way too high so we took our jeep to the Bill Luke dealership on camelback road and they took a look. They advised me that:
— The A/​C compressor was fine, it just needed a charge.
— The struts were also fine.
They charged our A/​C compressor, fixed the brake cap, and swapped the fluid out for 425.00 .

Someone is being dishonest with us here and we don’t believe it’s the dealership as they could have gotten more money from us. I see other reviews here where people have had this same problem with HITECH so it looks like this isn’t the first time they have done this. It was just a shame, the staff seemed very friendly and accommodating and we would have liked to do business with them but it’s clear that someone whether it be the managers or the mechanics were trying to rip us off. I attempted to send all of this info to them via their site but their captcha verification section is malfunctioning and won’t allow me to submit it. Who has captcha verification for a simple comment?! Terrible site design. Bogus estimate. We unfortunately do not recommend this place.

Gave my wife a $ 1100 quote to change the radiator hoses, flush power steering fluid and clean fuel injectors, they wanted 75 bucks for radiator fluid!, and all at 120 an hour! Had the car checked out and another shop and it did not need any of those things, they showed me the upper and lower hoses and the there was nothing at all wrong, no swelling, no dry rot, nothing… you can walk into this place with a perfect car and leave with an 1100 bill. I called and he did not want to talk, they should be ashamed, there in nothing honest or christian about this place! RUN.

I stopped in with no appointment needing to get my oil change before I headed home for thanksgiving. They were extremely helpful and made sure to get me in and out as quickly and efficiently as possible so I could get on the road. I will definitely be going back! :) Great guys and great service!

I first used Hi-​Tech a couple of years ago on the recommendation of a friend. Now I won’t go anywhere else! They do an excellent job, they don’t try to oversell me, and they have the best customer service of anyplace I know.
My husband and I both take our vehicles to Hi-​Tech, and I send my work vehicles there as well.

James and his crew went above and beyond to see that my work truck was fixed appropriately.
It came in weeks before needing emissions with a check engine light on from shoddy work performed by a different shop.
The problems were all sorted out and taken care of in a timely manner.
I couldn’t have been happier with the service I received from the company.

It was Labor Day weekend and I had a room booked in Flagstaff. Before leaving the valley we were heading to Fry’s to stock up on various food items when my car starting overheating and steam began to pour out of the hood. We pulled into a parking lot and I called AAA for a tow. They suggested I tow it to this company because they partner with AAA. I recently moved from East Valley to Phoenix so I decided to go with their recommendation because it was close, I was tired, and hoped it would be fixed the next day.
So I got my car towed there and dropped my key in the after-​hours drop box, then discover later that they are closed on weekends. «NOOOOOOO!!» I cried, because I was hopeful that it was something minor and I could still head up to Flagstaff after the car being fixed. So it is Friday night and my car would have to be left outside the shop until Tuesday when they open again. So my vacation plans were a bust. I also freaked out and thought, what if my car gets broken into or vandalized? The next night we stopped by to check on the car and they had kindly pulled it into the shop, so I was at least very relieved and grateful that it was safely locked up.
When I called them on Tuesday, I was told that they wanted to replace 7 of my heater hoses and my thermostat for $ 889.62! I almost feinted after hearing the price because I had never been quoted that high of a price before for car work. They also said the thermostat may or may not be bad and the price I was told was just the starting point. I couldn’t afford this, and didn’t want to pay this price even if I could afford it, so I called AAA back and had them tow my car again to my old mechanic I used to use in Mesa. Honn Auto Repair. He said only two hoses needed to replaced and only charged me $ 163. So I saved $ 726.62 in repairs and it’s running just fine a month later after finally taking a trip up North.
The staff here is very friendly and they kept my car safe and I really appreciate them for that, I just couldn’t believe how much they were trying to charge me for work on my car. I should have and will in the future stick to the mechanic I had been going to for years even if it is in another town.

I took my car in for a safety check before a long roadtrip. The guys at high-​tech knew what they were talking about and even picked up on a few issues I had known about but were not easy to diagnose. They gave me a complete write up of what was needed and why, which I greatly appreciate.
They kept me safe on my 3k mile journey and I will be back for additional services when it’s time.

I have taken my truck to them before. Friendly staff, clean office, tons of awards on the wall.
Here’s my story. They said I MUST have new brakes and rotors. Almost $ 500! My truck was starting slowly so the ran a compression test and said I needed a fuel pump. There’s another $ 800! Hmmm, so with an estimate of $ 1300 I decided to get a second opinion.
Guess what, the second shop said the rotors could be turned and the brake pads were fine!!! They ran a compression test and other tests and found out that the fuel pump was fine, the issue was the battery (which was under warranty).
TLDR, $ 1300 estimate for repairs that I pretty much didn’t need.
