Wowzers. …wait for it.
I was on a road trip with my 19 year old brother. And got tired and wanted an affordable place to stay the night. I had intentions on hitting the road really early, so a real laxed telly just wasn’t what I was looking for.
So this place drove me on its price.
Cool.
The night guy was pretty nice. He let me pay cash.
BUT…the room he gave us was pretty bad. We got a queen bed with a pull out couch.
After trying to settle in, my brother freaks out because there’s a heroin needle in the couch.
Yea. Picture to prove it.
The bathroom was gross and smelled like b-​o and I don’t know what.
So obviously I had to ask for another room.
The guy was really embarrassed and said absolutely, here’s another room.
I was so tired I just wanted sleep.
Well after tossing and turning because the sheets and everything was just gross, after 4 hours of sleep I got up and was ready to go. So was my brother. He didn’t sleep very well either.
There was a new older guy in the lobby and after asking to check out, he mumbles something that I can’t understand. After asking a couple times what he was saying, this ass hole says, «oh your the one who found the stuff». ??? Excuse me?
Found the stuff?
Yes I found the shit and its fucking gross. Extremely dissapointed in the way this HOJO handled this. The guy even tried to snub me my 20 $ deposit.
This place needs ALOT of help and renovating. The staff needs some help with customer service too. The least the guy could of done was apologize for the horrible experience on finding «the stuff».
The rooms suck too. They’re gross without the needles.
But I guess u get what you pay for.
Step it up guys. It’s almost 2016. Smh

DO NOT STAY HERE. every time we left the room our keys were deactivated. every single time. we stayed for 6 days. every single day asking for a manager and we got the response of «she will be in tomorrow at 7» yet she was never here. whoever owns this place needs to do some evaluating on their employees especially management. I’m disappointed that I wasted my money, especially since they couldn’t even get the key situation fixed. no apologies, nothing. terrible customer service. and the prices aren’t even good enough to make up for this crappy place and it’s apparent management

It’s cheap and it’s close the to airport. That’s about it. The walls look like their falling down, the carpet is nasty (black burn holes), the furniture is very dated. The bed linens look nice enough by the bath sheets couldn’t cover up and dry a four year old. Check the photos …

Got keys an hour after check in time.
Room not ready. Back to office. Got another room after complaint. Poor WIFI.
Tub drain didnt keep water in tub.
My brother reported same exact problems one week later.
Where is the site and regional oversight?
HOJO in Flagstaff also sucked.

I guess you get what you pay for. This place is horrible. The staff is not friendly, the air conditioner is crazy loud, the room was 96 degrees when I walked in, and I tried to get a drink of cool water ftom the tap and it was the same temperature as the room. I should have spent the extra few bucks to get a decent hotel. I will never come back to this awful place.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! So we get there at 3:30pm, check in is at 3 so we figure they should already have the room ready. We get to the front desk and the receptionist Amanda (very rude btw) tells us that if the door of our room is open is because the cleaning staff still needs to put clean towels and bags. I thought that was kinda weird but I let it slide. So my friend and I decide to go out to eat and then come back to unpack. We get back to the hotel at 5. and guess what? Our door is STILL open. So we go in and unpack. my friend noticed that there were no towels or trash bags so I go and ask the cleaning lady for one, she tells me she will take it in 5 minutes. I go back to the room and my friend noticed that the bed sheets were dirty! REALLY??? So I go to the front desk to tell them, the lady comes and changes the sheets and then leaves. We then noticed that the sheets she just put on were also dirty! REALLY? So we call the front desk and tell them again, at this point Amanda sounded annoyed but I did not care because I expect a clean room if I am paying $ 120 a night! The cleaning lady comes again and changes the sheets and then tells me that they had been super busy which is why they haven not had a change to finish cleaning all the rooms on time… it’s like that should not be an excuse to not have the room ready on time.
I go down to the front desk and ask Amanda if I could talk to the manager. She said that he would not be there till the next morning so I then ask for his number. she gives it to me. I go back to my room and Andy the manager… the phone rings and Amanda answers the phone. She gave me the number of the hotel… it’s like really? I then ask for Andy’s number and she said she was not able to give it me and that I had to wait till the next morning to talk to him. So my friend and I decided to forget about the whole situation for that night and deal with it the next morning. The next day, Andy the manager is at the front desk. He starts out polite and asked what room we were staying in. We told him our room number and he looks at the computer and then asks us if everything was good, I kinda was over it and was really tired to deal with the whole thing so I gave him a hesitant «yes» which he noticed. He then asked what was wrong and we told him about the room not being ready on time and the sheets being dirty. He tells us that the sheets that they gave us were clean and that the reason they looked dirty was because in Arizona they have hard water! REALLY ANDY? ARE YOU BLAMING THIS ON HARD WATER??? I told him that that didn’t make any sense but he still kept arguing. I told him that they had horrible customer service and he tried to make an excuse for that also. at this point I was over it and realized there was not way to win with him so we just left. I will never come back to this hotel again!

THE SHEETS WERE DIRTY. You pay a lot of money for a inn that reminds you of a Motel 6 and all you have to do is get the bed right. WHAT THE HELL. had to ask THREE different times to have them changed because the rude maid kept using the same one.
The front desk woman was one of the rudest human beings I have ever encountered as well as the manager. He just kept making excuse for himself and his staff.
I tried to call corporate but they put me on hold for 45 MINUTES. This entire company is shit and needs to be investigated. Honestly, I’ve never had to deal with so much bullshit for something I paid for.

My family and I spent more time out of the hotel room, but we were overall satisfied with our stay from 3÷6÷15−3÷8÷15. We had booked the room at $ 88/​night with Expedia a week in advance. Checking in was easy and the person was very helpful. She mentioned we were her first Dodger/​spring training fans of the season so +1 for her! Our room (207) was clean and comfortable. There were obvious signs of wear and tear but not enough to make me leave. The only downsides I noticed were the noisy floors and water fixtures, AND the deal breaker was the choice in TV channels. NO ESPN! Anyway, I didn’t go to watch TV, but it would have helped to catch a decent movie or show. The sink could use some upgrading but the shower head had AMAZING water pressure. Awesome room service also. We left early in the morning and came back to a spotless room!
The distance to surrounding nightlife in Tempe, Scottsdale and downtown was great, especially when we didn’t have to travel far to get on the freeway. We traveled about 45 mins to each spring training facility in Phoenix and Goodyear, so remember to plan your drive accordingly. The complimentary breakfast was simple: cereal, waffles, bread and coffee. I didn’t get in the pool but my son said it was freezing. So maybe wait for the scorching summer heat to jump in. For the price and comfortability, I can see myself staying at this hojo again.

Dirty, rude and a real dive. They also charged me twice and when I called to sort it out they told me I must have reserved two rooms (I did not, only one reservation number, thank you) and therefore they would not sort it out. So many better options so skip this hotel.

I chose this hotel based on cost since it was my first trip to AZ for business and I only needed a place to stay for a few hours. Bad choice.
If you are family or travelling solo and looking for a deal for a hotel, I suggest that you take your $ elsewhere and opt for a safer, cleaner option in AZ.
There were people outside my room the entire night walking back and forth and being disruptive. I could hear everything through the walls/​doors and the floors were extremely creeky. I was shocked that the man at the front desk was monitoring the activity outside the rooms since it was pretty close to the front entrance.

Absolutely worst hotel experience ever. I tried to work out a deal so that I could move to a hotel closer to my business for the week. The hotel clerk promised me the rooms were clean. Even though that was not my issue (although I was apprehensive about it after reading the reviews of cockroaches and bedbugs), he persisted that I can’t do anything because the rooms were clean.
There were baseboards falling off, behind the toilet was dirty, the room was LOUD I could here people coming and going all night and early morning.
I decided to suck it up since I already paid for the room and they would not budge. The first night I could hear the walls crawling, not a good nights sleep. The second night I came back to the room to find a cockroach the size of my thumb, belly up the in the middle of the room.
I checked out first thing the next morning. The morning clerk did not seem phased about this at all and joked about the bugs being big enough to carry my luggage to my car. Now they are proceeding to fight me about a refund, swearing the rooms are clean (how about that customer service).

Great place. Price could be a little better. Amanda at the front desk has been terrific!

Quiet, clean and comfortable! The show was amazing! Owners were professional and courteous! If you need a place by the airport, use this Howard Johnson’s! We ordered dinner from Rosita Italian Restaurant, fabulous sauce!!!

Served it’s purpose. Literally no frills. A bit of a problem with the park and stay situation. We reserved a one night stay and parking for 10 days. We were quoted one price (that we paid in advance) upon check out they changed to rules and said our package only included 7 days and we would have to pay for the extra days at $ 5 a day. The problem is the written confirmation doesn’t include the price they quoted me over the phone. Totally felt like a scam. Also– Ladies, if you like a hot shower, leave the bathroom door open-​otherwise the mirror will be foggy for-​ever!

I went to HJ on Van Buren. I have never stayed at a HJ and simply wanted to be close to the airport. Upon entering my room there were very large roaches the size of my thumb. I was transferred by Amanda to another room only to find more roaches and a window which wouldn’t lock. From 15 minutes of making the reservation decided I could not stay in this environment. Amanda assured me that nothing would be charged. I followed up later to find that there was indeed a charge to my account. Sandi, one of the owners offered me 50% off my 15 minute stay, what a deal! He said i should have cancelled 24 hours before; how when the reservation was only 15 minutes old from cancellation. Who wants to be around roaches? I stayed at the Extended Stay America a few minutes away. Rooms were much larger, cleaner, and staff was friendly. The room there was only a few dollars more. (See Photo).

The Room Smelled bad when we walked in. And even worse you could see Daylight through the door. there is a serious problem with a hotel when the curtains block the light better then the door does. the Breakfast bar food is pretty bad. Eat the fruit.
the only reason I gave it a second star was because the bed ws really comfy… of course I just got off a red eye flight and didn’t sleep a wink so maybe I was seeing it through rose colored glasses.

I don’t really like to review anything but food. However, I just had to write about this Hojo.
Listen, I didn’t expect much from a room under 50 bucks but… come on man!
Everything was cheaply okay until the man in the lobby, Andy, who was nice, made a bad excuse for the joint.
I questioned my address on the bill to which he explained that it was the address for Expedia, since the reservation was made via Expedia.
Andy went on to tell me, «Do you know how much Expedia paid for the room.»
«Doesn’t really matter to me» I said.
«$ 39. The rest is fees you pat them.» He told me anyway. «This is why I have to give you the room you get.» He went on.
«Okay.» I said and now wondered what he meant by that.
I get to the room which is the first one next to the lobby. It must have been a storage closet before. LOL. No, really, I laughed out loud and said really?!
The room was just big enough to crush the queen size bed into it with a miscellaneous door on the side wall blocked by a long useless table. There was also a round table and chair between the bed and the bathroom and a bedside table. Why all the table is beyond me. The bathroom was fine with a small shower. The décor was 20+ years out dated and the smell was musty and that goes for the pillow cases too.
BUT…here’s the kicker. It’s 2013 and the TV was from 1982 at best. No lie. No joke. I had to bang it to get a picture on the little 20 inch screen. I’m surprised it wasn’t black and white.
…and Andy. It’s not because of Expedia that the room is as it is. It simply because someone is too CHEAP to upgrade this establishment to $ 50 a night worthiness.
Howard Johnson would NOT be proud.
I gave it 2 stars because Andy was a nice fella and I just needed a bed. But do not toss blame where it does not belong. Take responsibility for the cheapness.

Can’t speak to the hotel, but for $ 4/​day parking (and plenty of discount codes if you browse around online) and a timely tram to the airport I’m not gonna knock it. I get the idea I’ll be seeing more of this place in March… and April… and June.

The WiFi was spotty and slow at best, and the hotel staff seemed completely uninterested in my requests for assistance. The cont breakfast was adequate at best. The room was comfortable enough. Really only sufficient as a place to sleep… don’t count on much more.
