Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores

Too bad no stars isn’t an option. There are never enough emotes there and the ones present couldn’t care less. There is always a line at least a dozen deep to check out and the store is a mess. Avoid if you can!!!

Horribly long lines to check out. I just needed to buy one thing for my Halloween costume. I literally saw 2 people walk up with there items look at the line then put the items down and walk out. Jo-Ann’s you need to do better. Only 3 people at checkout on a Sunday, weak!

To address some of the previous reviews: Yes, this location is busy– not really something they can help too much. Was anyone available on the floor to help? No, not really but again this was because everyone was already helping someone. I saw no employees just hanging out, in fact, all the employees I saw were running around and obviously working hard. The problem is not the employees, they are simply very very busy and have enough employees only to cover a normal customer demand level. I thought this location was great. Huge selection of fabrics. I do wish, however, they had a better selection of lace, I wasn’t really digging what they had. The lovely lady who assisted with my fabric cutting was a pleasure. I had 20 different items and she patiently cut every item with a smile and conversation. *Now, the reason for my lengthy review. The front cashier manager, Laura was amazing. Every single time without avail I tell myself I’ll spend one amount and I end up spending way more. It’s hard not to at JoAnns! When I first got to the register Laura greeted me with a warm and genuine smile (as someone in customer service/​management I can tell the difference). I told her I have a good amount of coupons because I went over my budget. She helped with finding all of the coupons we could per company policy and she was so patient. The register did something to where she had to put everything back in. She put all 20 of my items in manually while ringing up the some 25 digit item code per item. Still smiling! Still super friendly! I can’t thank her enough and quite frankly she made my day. I ended up saving $ 50 bucks thanks to her being patient. She was hurrying, as there were other people in line but not once did I feel rushed. I’d recommend checking out this location, maybe go during their off-​peak hours, which you can find by simply googling them. If you have an issue, ask for Laura, I’m sure she’ll be able to assist. I wish there was a «no» star rating… this store consistently falls far short in the customer service area with very few staff members but tonight took the cake! Customers are supposed to be able to grab a ticket, continue shopping and then be called overhead for fabric cutting. Before I was called, I had finished my shopping and then returned to the cutting counter and it was time for my number to be called. The system wasn’t used… the employee took another customer in front of me and then lied about why saying they had been waiting longer and that she had already started to cut when I spoke. Everyone in line knew she was lying. Then, her coworker returned and the two of them chatted slowing down the line even more. AND! they chatted about how much they were sick of work, how long they had worked that day, and how they like to leave work for each other. A ridiculous waste of my time and overall horrible customer service.
Oh, and by the way, the floral section was near empty. What the heck!!!

If I could have rated this store less I would have. ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE exists!!! Walked in and have been looking around for a while for what I went there for, once I couldn’t find it, I walked towards an employee for help and surprisingly as soon as I walked up to one, she just walked away knowing that I was coming to her to ask a question and she continued stocking the shelves. I waited at her station where she was coming back to and she never acknowledged me; not a «can I help you» nothing! I was in shock and still remain this way. After waiting there for her to acknowledge that I needed her help which was most obvious, I walked around looking for someone else who then sent me to the wrong location for the material that I’ve asked for. Then I had to go back to look for her again so she can show me, when she got there, she was more lost than I was. She had no knowledge about fabric and kept guessing that the material was what she «thinks» it was by touching it. There was another woman at back who sat on her computer not acknowledging anyone in the store. This has been the worst customer service environment I have ever had!

I was pleasantly surprised today:) No wait at the cutting table AND an efficient, happy employee. The line was long at the registers BUT they had 3 tills open. The checker was also so friendly, helpful, and quick. Such a great change from the past 2+ years. Glad to see the manager is listening!!! Thanks!!!

The only good thing about this place was the selections of fabrics because I found what I wanted and it had sales. There was nobody on the floor to help. To check prices on items I had to keep going to costumer service. The cutting section people were not to nice and when cutting my items did not pay attention to making the lines straight. Lines were long for everything it felt like only 3 people worked there. I will not be returning.

The employees at the store make you feel like you are doing them a favor by shopping here. Rude and dismissive. Rarely do you see more than one person at the registers, even when there is a long line of people. Went in today at 12 noon. Eight people in line, one person working the registers, two other employees talking and laughing by the front door. When I finally got to the register to buy a $ 50 gift card The lady didn’t know what to do. She wanted me to swipe the card like I was using it to buy something. She couldn’t get the card that I chose to work, so without asking me she chooses a different card and put $ 50 on it. When I told her that’s not the card I wanted, she made a big production about walking all around the front looking for another one all the time mumbling under her breath about me. I’m a 44-​year-​old man dressed in business attire her and this lady is treating me like I’m a little punk. When she finally got the card I wanted with the $ 50 on it she wouldn’t let me buy the packet of gum I had as well. She wanted me to pay twice, once for the gift card and once for the pack of gum with a credit card. Are you kidding me? Worst experience ever at a JoAnn store. I left without buying anything. Going to the JoAnn across town now.

Slow cutting, slow checkout. Take a ticket AND stand in line to get your fabric cut, employees will switch it up on you. Check the Joann’s app AND site for coupons (different coupons on each). I usually find a 50% off on the site. Joann’s also accepts coupons from Michael’s and Hobby Lobby’s but not on products they don’t carry. Ex: Michael’s doesn’t have fabric so you can’t use a 25% off Michael’s coupon in Joann’s on fabric but Hobby Lobby’s does sell fabric so you can use a 30% off Hobby Lobby’s coupon at Joann’s to buy fabric.

Been standing in the checkout line for over 20 min. One person working the register. Ridiculous!

This is probably the least miserable of the region’s Joanns, in that the clerks will smile both as they overcharge you and as they subsequently reverse the overcharge when you come back and complain.
The clerk at the cutting table was downright helpful and very nice, which is so unusual in Joann-​world that I’m hoping this is a pilot store for the concept of Pleasant Customer Service. A charming and fruitful interaction really does ease the tension of how slow and understaffed the cutting table consistently is (well, for me, possibly not for the people behind me in line, but maybe they had a good time when they got to the front, too).
Being Joann, there is a lot of stuff (good!), so much of it is officially on sale that using a coupon that applies only to full-​price items is challenging (sort of good, sort of frustrating, I dunno), and there are always long, slow-​moving lines (meh!). Since you’re not getting out of here quickly no matter what, you may as well allow time to browse, especially the seasonal section. Also — if you’re trying to hit just ONE craft store and you definitely need fabric but also non-​fabric stuff, this is the one to hit because it has the best fabric selection and a pretty decent and diverse selection of everything else. If you’re up for a craft slog of extreme thoroughness, there is a Michael’s in the next plaza west and a Hobby Lobby in the plaza across the street, so with the right combination of coupons, you can fully stock your stash and not have to leave the house all summer.
Check your receipt, though. Srsly.

I don’t always go to JoAnn’s fabrics but when I do it seems to always be the most wonderful visit. Today I was in need of a temporary BLACK backdrop cloth. I found the perfect material and LAURIE, the cutting clerk — not only cut my fabric to perfect size but she gave me a friendly and fun math lesson while I was there. Heavens knows I’m not the sharpest mathematician, but today I feel a little sharper thanks to Laurie and she did it ALL with a smile. Thanks Laurie. That’s good service. I couldn’t let your ABOVE AND BEYOND efforts go unnoticed. Guess who’ll be going back to Jo-Ann’s more often?

I worked at a Joanns in high school, and I still love the company. However, this store is poorly maintained. I needed food coloring and a turn table for cake decorating. All of the cake decorating items are squeezed into an aisle with a pillar in the middle. Stuff was spilling onto the floor and I couldn’t get my cart down the aisle. A messy store is normal for a busy Sunday, but I went in maybe 30 – 45 minutes after opening. I eventually found the turn table on a display in a different aisle, but there was no price. There were a variety of items on the display, and not a single one had a price sticker or a label on the display. It was like they put anything that didn’t have a home onto the display, regardless if they went together. I walked around, trying to find someone to ask the price and there was no one to be found. There were 2 ladies cutting fabric, one at customer service and one at another register. The line to checkout was 10 people deep and I wasn’t going to wait just to ask a price. Since they were out of the other item I was looking for anyway, I put the turn table back and went to Michaels in the same shopping center. It was a night and day difference with wide aisles, clean and stocked shelves and clearly marked prices. There were 3 people ringing and I got to my car with both items under 15 minutes. I even saw 3 people walking around the store offering help and straightening. I am sad to say that I will not be returning to this Joanns again.

One item to purchase and 15 minutes in line to accomplish the task. The first issue was not the checker’s fault but the chatty customer who chose to to chat on her cell phone and then was searching for her coupon on her cellphone. It moved down from there, a low comedy involving unwilling patron standing in line.
Rescue came in the form of another clerk who, unfortunately, was at a cash register requiring a login– twice– and several interruptions answering the phone. Meanwhile, the woman in the first line who had been behind me was checked out, paid and out the door before my one item purchase was even rung up.
Inefficiency makes it a challenge to continue shopping at this location.

Always a pleasure shopping here!
The folks are nice, even if a bit slow sometimes. At least I don’t feel rushed…
Anyway, came for a muffin pan (got that) and looked at some Pandora-​look-​a-​like beads (didn’t have much selection, didn’t get that).
Had a texted coupon and saved ½ and mother has the app (always coupons inside).
Shopped. Saved. Happy. Done.

Same as other reviews a bunch of registers and one cashier I been waiting at customer service trying to see what other store has more if the item I need I been waiting for over 30 minute cashier ignoring and avoiding eye contact no mas

My wife and I went there looking for fabric to redo our dinning room chairs with. The employee who first helped us out gave us poor direction on what type of fabric we should be looking for, where to find it exactly, and seemed reluctant to leave here «station» as if she was busy working… which she wasn’t.
Then once we found what fabric we wanted I got another associate to give us a hand cutting off how much we wanted. She was pissed off because… I don’t know… maybe because I asked for assistance and she had to stop what she was doing. Maybe she should think about another job, not customer service.
The most positive part about the trip here was the second associate that helped us. She told us to go to another store across town where we purchased fabric for our chairs $ 10 less then we found at Jo-Ann’s. Thanks Guys!

This store is at a disadvantage because its location is sort of hidden from the street. I didn’t even know there was a Jo-​Ann in Ahwatukee until recently. Since finding it, I have been there three times.
Two of three visits, I left empty-​handed.
Jo-​Ann is a lot less crowded than Michael’s, but I feel like they do not use the space wisely.
There is a lot of empty space and then some aisles are cramped. It puzzles me. Was something else there that was removed?
On my second visit, I came looking for fabric accessory loops by Darice, a jewelry making company. They did not have them (even though they carried a lot of jewelry making supplies by Darice) and the employee who I asked about them seemed not only puzzled, but annoyed that I asked about them. She seemed to think I was asking for something that did not exist… not only at Jo-​Ann, but in the universe.
The last time I went in to Jo-​Ann, I went home with one spool of thread and some large eye needles. My bill came out to about $ 10. Pricey for what I got.
Overall, I would come here specifically for fabric. I would not make an extra trip here for any other reason.

I hate being so mean about a Jo-Ann’s but I am DONE with the registers.
I make decisions to NOT come here because the lines are so ridiculous. Why do they have 9 registers and 1 person ringing ALL THE TIME!!! Infuriating. Plus, I feel like I ALWAYS have to interrupt the cashier because the only people working at Jo-Ann’s are 1 cashier and 2 people cutting fabric. I have never in my 10+ times in this store seen an associate who is not in one of those three positions. It is SO maddening!!!
Bring on AT LEAST one more associate because at least I can find help at Michaels, and if I can’t find it there, I’d rather buy my item on Amazon to avoid the BULLSH*T at Jo-Ann’s.
P. S. I even have a vested interest in this store as I took a sewing and a cake decorating class here and I am tired of the place sucking so bad.

I went to this store to return some scrapbooking supplies. I wasn’t sure if only one cashier accepted returns, so I had to interrupt the cashier at customer service. I felt terrible for doing it, as I know it is terribly rude, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t falling into a line I didn’t need to. After saying excuse me, the cashier did not answer nor acknowledge my presence, so I said, «excuse me» a little louder and I get a cold «hold on Ma’am.» I’m terribly sorry you are busy and I interrupted you, but a simple acknowledgement in your facial expression would have sufficed.
The part that really irked me was while she was scanning my many items, she made a comment, «you did KEEP some things, right?!» Excuse me? I just went to Michael’s and returned $ 40 worth of scrapbooking supplies in which I had originally spent $ 50 and I did not hear a single peep from their cashier. I still ended up spending $ 70 at Jo Ann’s with my return. I completely understand and I absolutely hate to do it, but you have a return policy that could easily state that scrapbook supplies are excluded. They are tiny items and I’m sure are a pain to re-​stock, but your corporation does not say that I cannot return my unused scrapbooking supplies. On top of that, you are located within a 1 mile radius of TWO other art supply stores, I’m sure it happens.
I have dealt with difficult customers all of my life and never once let my emotions or aggravation show, especially a sassy remark like that. So, to my cashier, Barbara Ann, your attitude just cost you a customer. I will not be giving Jo Ann Fabrics any of my business.
