Let Them Eat Cake

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her cupcakes! The first time I had Barbara’s lemon cake was in 2001 and 15 years later I could still remember how fantastic that cake was! I got re-​married on ²⁄₂₇ and I knew I wanted something from her again. This time we went with cupcakes because we wanted to have a variety for our small wedding of 30 people.
We ordered the following:
* Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes — These were REALLY good! I am not a fan of anything Bavarian, but her’s is so light that this was one of my favorites!
* Cosmos — Barbara’s lemon cake with a raspberry filling! I LOVED these and wish we had done 2 dozen of them because they went fast!
* Rusty Zebra — SO stinkin good! The chocolate with PB mousse was very tasty and a favorite among many of our guests! We made sure to take a few of these to hide, so we had an extra taste the next day!
* Chocolate Rampage — This one is very rich! It wasn’t my favorite, but I heard several people say they really liked the chocolate and we only had a few left at the end of the reception.
* Strawberry Delight — Vanilla with strawberry was pretty popular with the crowd too. We had a few of these left over after the reception.
* Marie’s Cherry — Vanilla with chocolate mousse that was very tasty! I had one of these the next day and found it to be very good. Not my first flavor combination, but the cupcake itself was really good!
We ordered 72 cupcakes and ended up with 25 people at the reception. We wanted to have enough for folks to take home a cupcake if they wanted and with the size of these (they are biggies), we figured 1 – 2 per person with a few taking some home would be good. We only had about 8 cupcakes left over, all of which were the Marie’s and Strawberry, so it worked out just fine. I got texts for several days after from my guests who were enjoying their extra cupcakes. One guest said they should be «illegal» they were so good! :)
I will always come back for cake and cupcakes from Barbara, but as a baker myself, I will be signing up for some of those classes, so I can work on my own decorating skills!

We had a great experience with Barbara at Let Them Eat Cake! My fiancé and I knew that we wanted to do a non traditional wedding cake that had a normal top tier and then cupcakes for the remaining tiers. We sat down with Barbara and tastes all of the flavors of cake we were interested in and then she helped us design each cupcake to be unique. The day of the wedding, the cupcake tower looked AMAZING and our guests raved about how good the cake was! Our top tier was our traditional looking wedding cake with our cake topper. Barbara did a great job decorating it and helping it stand out from the cupcakes. We did 3 flavors of traditional cupcakes and 1 flavor of GF cupcake so there was something for everyone! I could not be happier with how the cakes turned out or how the display looked! Thank you!

I was bummed by this bakery. First I had someone recommend them. I reached out through email for a cake for my daughters first birthday. I got a email back asking for photos of what I wanted. I sent a few photos and never heard back. I resent the email and still didn’t hear back. I guess I wasn’t worth their business.

I had the pleasure of receiving a dozen cupcakes for my birthday yesterday and they were amazing!!! Honestly, the BEST cupcakes I have ever eaten!!! We had several different flavors including my all time favorite cake-​German Chocolate! The Lemon Raspberry came in second for me!
When my friend went in to buy these the gals went in the back and finished some «Better than sex» cupcakes for him-​which were delightful!
Not only absolutely delicious but great service!
I am addicted and a big fan!

Yet again, they exceeded my expectations! I am so impressed with their Creative expression and interpretation of what I wanted to convey for my sister-​in-​laws baby shower cake. It was truly a show stopper. The two different styled cakes were moist and guests raved and raved about how wonderful they were. I think if previous reviewers let go of the «control» element and allowed these creative proffessionals to do their job without scrutinizing hues of color and which parts are shimmered and which parts were supposed to be this or that, they might actually appreciate the piece of confection art in front of them. If you are that picky, make it yourself. Bakers are not robots who should have to follow precise instructions to the point of being nit-​picked for not being able to see your «minds eye» picture or idea. They are a group of people with a passion to help convey a theme, message or idea but should have a little creative leeway to do express with their own hand and style. With that said, Bravo to Barbara and her bakers for a job VERY well done!!!

They made me the perfect wedding cake! They made it simple but elegant and kept true to my Beauty and the Beast theme. I was so pleased with their work, especially on such short notice. The shop itself is adorable and cute. The staff is very friendly and excited to help with any event. They made a true work of art for me!

Let Them Eat Cake is truly amazing!!! I have been lucky to be surprised for the last two years birthday for the last two years with cakes made by them! They didn’t miss a detail in my Rugrats birthday cake or my cell phone cake. Bring in a picture or a vision and they will create something amazing for you! My highest recommendation!

The driest cupcakes I have ever had. The flavor was okay but the icing was to sweet and kinda grainy.

Disappointed with my mom’s 50^th bday cake. I’m not sure if the girl that took my order didn’t communicate what I wanted well or what. I sent emails with a few pictures, which they never called with questions after receiving them. I had to call them, which to me isn’t great service. I
I requested an ivory cake with a quilted pattern and pearls. I wanted to add gold and royal purple accents: purple ribbon, gold pearls, ivory with gold and purple poppies. They couldn’t do the sparkly candles I wanted. I reiterated I wanted a dark, royal, almost eggplant purple. She said they could do it considering they were working in a nightmare before Christmas cake.
The cake had no gold on it, but was shimmery ivory. The pearls were white and the purple was like the purple you would see in a little girl’s room. Worst of all, the cake seemed a little sloppy and rushed. I asked to fix the fondant numbers and the manger did as best as she could. I will give her credit for saying she wanted me to be happy. Truth was, I wasn’t very happy with it.
I know I am a perfectionist when it comes to detail so maybe I’m being a little harsh, but not I’m not impressed. I might add another star after I taste the cake. Sad it didn’t measure up to my expectations. Hopefully my mom likes it.
Another thing that was really off putting: on top of the cupcake counter were ads for dermatology or skin stuff. Really weird and doesn’t belong in a cake shop.

This is an amazing place! I’ve tried many other valley cakes and cupcakes and no one comes close to them. I called them for a party cake for a friend, their VERY HELPFUL and creative staff guided me through the custom cake process and asked me also to send photos by email so they can capture my vision. (Unlike the previous reviewer, I really appreciated their advice to go online and send ideas. I think if you give over complete control and give none of your own ideas, then you will be disappointed and might as well go to the grocery store and get a ready made cake.) Not only was the cake they made beautifully done and exactly what I wanted it was a big hit at the birthday! I had a marble cake with fudge, the cake was very moist and I will dream about the fudge filling.
Not only do they make the best cakes but their cupcakes are little pieces of art. I tried the lil deb and the promise land and can’t wait to tried the better then sex :).
I’m a customer for life!

Working with Let ThemEat Cake (And Barbara too) was a pleasure. They were so sweet. I let them run with the creativity of the cake since I’m not creative and they exceeded my expectations! The cake was the Ninja Turtles coming out of a sewer. They made it gluten free (vanilla) with Pineapple and custard in the middle and it was a HUGE hit at my sons 4^th b-​day party. No one would have ever known it was gluten free if I didn’t say anything and everyone asked me several times where I had the cake made. Writing this post is making me crave another piece!

It was love at first bite when I sampled the cupcakes from this incredible local business a few years ago at the Unilocal in Bloom event…
I knew way back then that I would order something special from LTEC when the right occasion came along, and it finally did… my daughter celebrated her first birthday yesterday. We had a family only party at my house and what made it complete? The beautiful smash cake and cupcakes that we ordered from Let Them Eat Cake!
Seriously, these goodies were works of art. I will post a few pics. And not only that, they were delicious! I went for white cake with whipped cream in the middle for both, and Barb used some designs I gave her to make the smash cake match my daughter’s custom bib and theme for the party. (Purple and lavender zig zags, her name, some polka dots, etc…) Needless to say, the cake and cupcakes were a huge hit with the crowd (especially my daughter who had cake for the first time), and great for photos as well.
Huge thank you to Barb and your extremely friendly staff… we’ll remember Mila’s special day for years to come and will not hesitate to come back to you for future special occasions either.

Cutest cupcakes, Nice friendly staff. But honestly I have mixed feelings. The cupcakes are in the kind of wrapping that I see on Italian panettone which I loved!
But we got a bakers dozen and we got assorted mix. I got to taste a lot of them and they were not as good as they looked. BUT the coconut cream and boston cream were very good and the better than sex as more than a cupcake it was a dessert in itself. the plain jack, butter rum, cherry and a few other were forgettable.

First, it should be noted that Barbara at Let Them Eat Cake was the ONLY reputable custom bakery that returned my call. I left messages with three others and they either didn’t get back to me or responded once and I didn’t hear back from them again.
Barbara and her team were FANTASTIC. I needed something special — something different for a proposal cake. They were creative, prompt, responsive and all around amazing. The end result was exactly what I was looking for and my proposal couldn’t have happened the way I had imagined without them.
I would recommend them to anyone who wants exceptional customer service and a fantastic cake!

My bridal shower cake was ordered from here several years ago (yep, I’ve been slacking on writing a review). My friends that hosted I had met while doing the breast cancer 3-​day so they had the cake made into a cute bustier, frosted in pink & had a little breast cancer ribbon on it, it was just beautiful. It tasted amazing too, of course I can’t even remember the flavor. The only thing I have to complain about was the $ 145 price tag for my cake! Yikes!

This place is amazing! We got cupcakes from them for our wedding and everyone raved about how big, delicious, and fresh they were. It is a small yet very lively bakery that specializes in delicious cakes and cupcakes. Their cupcakes are bigger, tastier, and less expensive than sprinkles. Sometimes they have cake sandwiches, they cut the excess cake from their amazing cakes they make for special occasions and put their delicious buttercream, ganache, and other amazing fillings between 2 giant pieces of cake! It’s amazing!

The customer service is as wonderful as the cupcakes! I have driven by the place several times in the past but have never stopped in until today. I wanted to pick up something special for myself for my birthday today. I pulled into the parking lot and found that the place had closed 20min prior to my arrival. I was so disappointed. Then suddenly, one of the workers came to the café side, unlocked the door, and let me come in. They were so kind. I was able to get 2 very delicious cupcakes, packaged beautifully! Thank you!

My mom and I were in a last-​minute need for a specialty cake for my Dad’s birthday. Because of our time crunch (one week’s notice), we really didn’t have a choice on where to take our business and thus we ended up at Let Them Eat Cake. The customer order/​pick-​up area is combined with their cupcake counter making this place extremely compact. Regardless, the space was clean and they did manage to fit two, slim, high top tables on which were books filled with pictures of previous cake designs, most not being as intricate as we were wanting.
An employee name Katie was there to greet us and help us determine the cake specifications. She was very helpful with educating us on what types of frosting would be better for our design. She informed us of using the risk of staining (the teeth and lips) when using dark colors with a buttercream frosting. Because of that new knowledge we opted for the fondant which doesn’t leave a stain even when using black dyes. The cake was big enough to feed 30 people and after we got over the «sticker shock» we submitted the order.
Our event was on Sunday and since their weekend hours are non-​existent we had to pick up the cake by 11 am on Saturday. This was a little frustrating because we had to find a refrigerator big enough to keep the cake in, as well as, keep it hidden so my Dad wouldn’t find it early. They did a decent job with the design, there was one error with the coloring, but they were able to fix that up on the spot and no additional charge. The cake was pretty tasty, nothing spectacular, but the guests and and my Dad were impressed with the design. It might just be knowing how much it cost that ruined the design aspect for both my mother and myself, but since the guests were happy, we were happy.

Positives. I’ve used this bakery three times for custom cakes. The art work of the decoration has always been perfect. They are always on time. All three cakes were praised at my events for flavor and design. Ordering was easy. Service polite and knowledgable.
Cons. The customer area always seems unkempt. It’s hard to feel comfortable. The cakes are pricey. The hours are difficult for weekend events.
I like my cupcakes simple and traditional. I dont get into these complex flavor combos. For beautiful traditional cupcakes I use barbs bakery. Better priced.
Let them eat cake will keep my business when I need specific design and when I’m doing an event that I’m willing to pay the money. It’s not for my everyday needs.
