I love this salon! The design of the space is so beautiful and fun it makes you instantly confident that you will be walking out trendier then you came in. Everyone is really friendly and it’s a great atmosphere.
My stylist is Miriam and she is amazing! She is a true artist! I love to try new things and ask her to help me explore new styles that will compliment my face shape. She always does a beautiful job. When I turned 30 I wanted to do something fun and add an unusual color. We decided on purple highlights. Miriam being the absolute artist that she is gave me beautiful pastel purple highlights that allowed me to express my individuality while not looking like a teenager!

I got a hair cut here and Oliver did a wonderful job with my hair. He helped me find my own style, it feels very good to keep my hair according to my idea. Very good experience!

I need to update this review. I’ve been seeing Oliver for over a year now and I just have to rave a little about the level of customer service he is providing to his clients. He is a stylist who really cares about his craft, staying educated with the best technique and product and having a real talent for what he does. I have some of the best hair I’ve ever had now that I’ve been with him for awhile. And beyond that, he’s just a really great person. I recommend him to everyone I know.

Danalee changed my life when she worked magic with my hair! It’s been so long since I had a style that fit my personality and it makes such a bug difference. She is an artist.

Called last minute to get a hair cut and Oliver was able to accommodate me! Oliver is awesome! He took the time to talk to me at the beginning, to get to «know» my hair and the direction I wanted to go with my new short hair cut. He made me feel comfortable and actually relaxed, because he really knew what he was doing. His assistant was really sweet too. My hair came out amazing, can’t wait to schedule my next appointment with him!

In response to co-​owner of Model Citizen’s (Jacki) comment on my review — I acknowledge that she did leave me 2 messages and I returned her call but did not hear back. I sent a message informing her of the reason for my delayed response and I have informed her I will take this review down if she would like to speak or meet with me & there is a valid explanation for everything in my review.
Bottom line is this — I didn’t get what I asked for, not even close — details in my original review. It is very unacceptable borderline unethical to raise a price 67% without advanced notice prior to service. The skill, knowledge and quality of work from this particular stylist can’t validate charging $ 90 let alone the $ 150 I was charged for the 3^rd worst color experiences I’ve paid for. Stylist left the premises — I saw her go, I watched her walk back then see friends in the restaurant next door and when she saw them she went over, hugged one of them and stood there talking for 10 minutes.
I am very thankful to Jacki for refunding me however I would still caution anyone who is considering Model Citizen — ask for prices up front if you do chose this salon & what kind of training & education your stylist has, how many years of experience they have and if you want a technique that’s pretty basic such as low lights, don’t assume the stylist is going to look at your picture and make the connection that with the formula and pictures you provided they know you want highlights and low lights to achieve the look you want — seemed pretty self explanatory to me but look where that landed me.
I stand by my original review 100%.

Danalee was amazing. I made a last minute appointment when we planned a vacation weekend in Phoenix. Not only sweet as can be but is very talented. I asked for balyage and just a trim and she did just that! Exceeded expectations! Highly reccomend! Super cute/​chic salon too — very nice people.

After several years of living on a tight budged while going back to school, which unfortunately included budget haircuts, walking into Model Citizen was a breath of fresh air. I’d noticed this salon while enjoying wine at the next door Central Wine, and while dining at Clever Koi. Both being great places, Model Citizen is among great company.
I did a bit of research of the stylists on the salon website and was pleased to see that Oliver listed «men’s grooming specialist» among his expertise. I scheduled my first appointment with a text, which I love because it’s such a time saver with my busy schedule.
Upon arriving the receptionist offered me a drink and a comfortable seat to wait. At my appointment time Oliver greeted me, took time to question me about what type of style I wanted and asked questions to be sure he truly understood what I wanted. Not only did I receive a spectacular haircut, there was an abundance of interesting conversation, free of charge (the conversation, not the haircut… lol).
It feels great to once again have a dedicated stylist working in a nicely situated salon to keep my hair looking the way I like. I’ll definitely be going back for the foreseeable future.

MIRIAM IS THE BEST!!!
I have had many a stylist in my 28 years and Miriam absolutely tops the list. I have been going to her exclusively for 4 years. She listens to what I want and always asks questions to make sure we’re on the same page. She is super creative and always makes suggestions on how to make sure my cut and color look modern and classy. I always leave feeling incredible.
I love and trust her so much that I asked her to do all the hair for my wedding next May!
If you’re looking for a change from your old stylist or if you’re interested in getting some expertly applied balayage highlights, Miriam is 100% your girl!

Miriam has continually done a great job with my hair. Thats saying a lot considering how picky I am with my hair. I have gone to only a handful of people in my lifetime because of it. She’s done very well with the cuts I’ve asked to be done and even have given me good advice with what will work best with the shape of my head. I appreciate that.
She does fantastic mens cuts and exceeds in womens styles to an extent that anyone who wants their hair done and colored, shes the first person I think of. She has even done hair for my brothers wedding this past July and it turned out fantastic.
From awesome coloring to a mens cut… I suggest you go see her.

Oliver is superb… not only as a stylist but also a person. I am a huge fan of his charming personality! I had my first cut with him about a month ago and it turned out great (I have short hair and like most girls I have had my share of botched cuts). The cut was unique and cute … I really felt like he took his time. The salon is super nice with a great location. I highly recommend.

Loved it!!! Got my hair done by Oliver, and he knew exactly how i wanted my hair! I am definitely going back to get color in my hair.

I decided I needed a big change last minute and Model Citizen was the first salon I called that was very accommodating and super nice! They set me up with Danalee who did wonderful things to my hair! Loved the color and cut she did and I’ve been loving all the compliments I have been receiving ;)

Oliver has been coloring and cutting my hair for the last 7 years. He always has the edge on the new styles and takes his time to make sure it’s always perfect. Whatever look I want he makes it happen but 3x better. I would recommend him to everyone and model citizen salon has the most chill environment I always feel welcomed.

You would think any stylist could do a men’s hair cut, but no one can do it like Jaclyn. I would pay just for the head massage.

If you don’t have an appointment at Model Citizen to get your hair done right now, you better call and make one, otherwise you’re making the biggest mistake of your life. This is the funkiest salon to get your hair done at and its attached to a wine bar! What could be better than a lot of wine and beautification?! The staff is always professional and on time, the salon is incredibly clean and the manager plays the best music and is so trendy and friendly. I would recommend even my worst enemy to this salon because I feel like a celebrity when I come here.
If I could marry my stylist Miriam Kenly, I totally would. She is the best stylist in the world and gets my color right every single time. When I ask her to color my hair platinum like Khaleesi from Game of Thrones, she colors my hair the exact shade of The Dragon Queens hair. If you want to look like Elsa from Frozen, Miriam will get you on Elsa’s level. Her head massages are like a thousand fairies hands gently stroking your head into a slumber. The coloring skills that Miriam possesses are far superior than any other stylist I have come into contact with and I would recommend her to anyone and everyone!

I LOVE this place! I used to do box dye and wait months before going in for a trim, but now, I so look forward to getting my hair done. I see Miriam, a fabulous and classic young stylist, who specializes in color & up-​dos. She was the first stylist who has cut my curly hair in it’s natural way, allowing for a true do on a daily basis. She gave me a little patch of bright blue to my stubborn brown hair, added a ton of body to my sad curls and gives the best head massages!
The salon is lovely, a really fun environment and full of friendly faces. Plus, there’s a wine/​beer bar connected — I mean, having a glass of wine while your color is processing? Yes please! I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

After living here for almost 8 years, I think I have FINALLY found my spot to get my hair cut. Thanks to Brian A. for the review, it was spot on. On whim a few days ago, I was sick of my hair being too long. I called them about about and hour and forty minutes before closing, and they agreed to take me.
Jaclyn was my stylist and she cut my hair EXACTLY the way I wanted. I have been through a few stylists and many different spots now and this is the first time that I was 100% satisfied with my haircut. So Jaclyn has a regular customer. I really like the space too: it’s modern, comfortable and RELAXING. It never really occurred to me how hectic, noisy and stressful going to a salon could be until I experienced the atmosphere here.
And it’s good value too. $ 30 for a shampoo and cut, including a pretty wicked scalp massage. And, it’s right between work and home so as long as Jaclyn gets me on a schedule, I shall never be cursed with long locks again!
AND did I mention that it is attached to Central Wine??? That means have a glass of wine after my haircut… or before… or both… or head over to Clever Koi for food and cocktails… or all of the above.
Anyway, I am very happy I found this place and will be getting my hair cut here from now on.
