Residence Inn Phoenix

I want to thank the staff and especially the front desk staff for accommodating me so well. I reserved this hotel site a few days before I got here, I was a little skeptical with the reviews I had read. I don’t doubt that these things took place especially with pictures as proof. when I arrived the front desk staff is very polite, they assigned me a room, After I had requested a specific area and I went to it. I want to check out the room and it wasn’t quite accommodating, you might say. I went back to the front desk and requested a new room and explained why. They did not question me because of my explanation, it was in the far south 40 and I questioned the distance from everything and everyone. It was early to check-​in so they asked me if I would come back in about an hour and a half more rooms would be available. I did so. Upon return I was assigned another room but with great disappointment, it was not cleaned. The bed was not made and there was still food in the kitchenette. Once again I return to the front desk and explained the situation, once again I was given another room. I opened the door and to my amazement it was a larger studio, clean, and inviting. The bed was very comfortable, I stayed here for two nights with all the comforts of home and someone else fixed breakfast for me. :-) Yes, if I come back this way I will most definitely stay here again. Again, I would like to thank the staff at the front desk, very kind and accommodated my needs and my wants for a specific room type, It most definitely met my expectations. Thank you, Residence Inn by Marriott on Black Canyon Freeway, Phoenix, AZ.

I am a Marriott Platinum member and this is the worst Marriott Hotel I have ever stayed in. Stayed ¹⁄₁ — 1÷3÷2016 first room had bugs and lots of em. Manager came next morning saw the bugs, competed me 10k points and gave me an upgraded suite. Well My new suite suffered with a TV that would receive no channels for over 24 hours. Twice, I was locked out of the unit, once I had to wait for a maintenance man who could not get in, needed a master key and apparently the manager was not on property and had the keys. I ended up waiting in the clubhouse waiting for them to get a key to open my door.

We are Marriott gold level members who stay exclusively at Marriott hotels. We have never had such a bad experience! Our adventure started on a cold rainy day when our 2 bedroom unit had a fireplace that wasn’t working. We reported it immediately and were told they were aware of the problem and that they would send a technician. No offer to move us, but the promise of an interruption by a worker.. .. Great! (We never saw a technician and the fireplace never worked) Since the room was cold we turned the heater on. To our surprise the intake unit was located over one of the bathroom vanities and was extremely loud. Every time the heater ran it was unbearably loud. We had our sleep interrupted several times overnight when the heater turned on. Then there were the smaller annoyances, like a remote that did not work in the bedroom, the toilet that clogged and overflowed (no plunger in the unit), and the dried out tasteless food served for breakfast. All in all a miserable experience and one we will not repeat.

Made reservations a month in advance for 2 suites… for a party of seven. Arrived and only one suite was ready. Okay, no biggie. We had things to do and would come back later for second reservation. Driving to the room, I knew instantly, this was a wolf in sheaps clothing hotel. I think someone switched the sign that read «rented by the hour» to «suites». Driving toward the room was a parking lot of garbage, nails, a trailor of crap and a razor blade on the ground! I swear I started looking for a body.
Went up to the room, which smelled like a wet diaper. The most pitiful «suite» I’ve ever seen. Came back later to check in to the second suite only to hear, «we apologize, but corporate overbooked. We don’t have the rooms requested.» They did give us two additional rooms for the price of one, so, okay… seems fair. So, we unpack my mom and aunt in one room and we scurried off to ours. One hour later, water is raining in my moms unit from upstairs! They move her to another room… again.
We, finally start to unwind, get things ready for our flight the next day. I wanted to get the coffee pot set up in the beautiful kitchen in this room so we’re not fumbling around early in the morning. But noooooo, all the plugs in this kitchen are fake… they look like plugs but all the outlets were filled with plastic and not useable. I felt like I was in North Korea’s fake city on the border. Don’t let the corporate photos of this place fool ya.
The only positive thing in this hell-​hole dump located on the side of a freeway in the hood (respectfully, but this is not a good neighborhood) was the nice young man at the front desk who credited our rooms, again, and apologized profusely on behalf of a corporation who couldn’t give a rats ass for their guests… or him.

The hotel room was nice, clean and well maintained. Customer service was courteous and polite. The breakfast was okay kind of a cramped space.
My only complaint would be the neighborhood (which isn’t the hotels fault) but it is kind of ghetto and there’s not much near by to walk to. I prefer to stay in the Tempe area.

Comfortable (!) Beds, pillows, linens.
Open facility with nice and simple layout.
Good WIFI
Great breakfast (everything) plus light dinners several nights, all included.
Spacious covenient parking
Friendly staff
Rooms and facilities slightly dated, but still wonderful for my business partner and I. Also, quite spacious with all convenieces.
Walking distance to a famous (huge) BBQ restaurant/​bar + nightclub.
Stayed 3 nights, rented a meeting room (from wonderful Kristen) that was absolutely perfect for our medical training program.
5 stars because of the above + the amazing price!

We stayed at this marriott mid March of this year while we attended a huge conference at the JW Marriott.
This was quite a surprise First do not get discouraged when you see their wonderful old style buildings and rooms compressed on such a small piece of property and so close to busy roads. We arrived late, so the selection of rooms was limited. Our room was close to the road but it was quiet once inside.
Parking was tight but there is a space for everyone. With such limited land you don’t have the wonderful manicured lawns trees but, you have my favorite old style large rooms with wonderful full kitchens.
I needed a full oven because immediately following our meetings we were driving 2 days to be guests of a family on a special old Native American reservation. I promised to bring them a huge complete Japanese beef teriyaki dinner with home made toasted almond basmati rice w fresh parsley. And I hand carried on the plane a dozen frozen French buttercream iced chocolate (w Choco ganache centers) cupcakes from our favorite bakery (turtle bread) in minneapolis — iridescent sparkle on the blush pink icing some had fresh orchids– their cupcake of the month.
It took me 3 days of shopping prepping then cooking in my hotel kitchen. The staff was OUTSTANDING. Pots pans. Some ingredients. They must have thought me crazy cooking such a huge meal (to feed 10) in my room! Wonderful cleaning staff. Some of the best breakfast creations I have ever had at any residence inn. And the young gentleman (Miguel?) who checked us in at midnight helped us unload our car (we were exhausted). It is the STAFF who make this compressed complex of buildings a great experience.
Price was also excellent. Proximity convenience to the JW Marriott driving back and forth rush hour etc. (back roads) was very easy, faster than expected.
Staff were all warm genuine big smiles, friendly happy (ESP kitchen staff) with their jobs. They fed an ARMY/​avalanche of people each day. Cooking madly trying to keep up with demand. With so much business and traffic of guests they kept the facility very clean and free of any odors ! (I have a super sensitive nose. Do not like dirty hotels).
If they had more land space were not so close to the highway and in a slightly better area I would have given them 5 stars. MARRIOTT SENIOR MNGT needs to help this hotel — freshen up the interiors– huge guest traffic!!!
We will definitely return. And book early .

very kind front desk attendants, and accommodating to say the least! would highly recommend this hotel due to the staff and comfortable atmosphere.

A room for one night was supposed to be a total of $ 180.00 and they charged $ 200.00. Once that was cleared up, a few hours later we recieved an ADDITIONAL $ 250.00 CHARGE because people were smoking OUTSIDE. unacceptable. and you know that the best part is? they were smoking a ciggerate with the damn security gaurd that circles the place at night. So, they should make it clear to customers and their OWN EMPLOYEES YOU CANT SMOKE ON THE VICINITY. So in conclusion, my friend who is not even a smoker and paid for the room was charged $ 450.00 instead of $ 180.00. On a postive note, there is free breakfast lol
Usually marriotts are a really good hotel chain to choose, it’s just this specific location that you should avoid

Very noisy. Stay away from the basketball court area and the highway side. Room is average but clean. Hard to get to the hotel so come from the north, stay to the right and go slow. Good breakfast.

This Residence Inn was possibly the cleanest hotel suite we’ve ever stayed in — beautiful housekeeping job. We checked in after dark, and immediately experienced a few problems — all minor if you planned to stay for a few days, but annoying for an overnight trip where we just wanted to heat some food, prepare morning coffee, shower, and go to bed.
The light switches were in odd places; it took both of us to find the switches for the bathroom.
Every outlet over the sink/​stove/​counter tops had child guards in it. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out how to plug something in or remove them. We wound up putting the coffee maker on the desk and plugging it in there. All minor details, but they should be fixed — or at least a note on how to remove the child guards would be in order!
Our room was right on the edge of the property, which also meant the highway was across the street and down. There was plenty of fencing, I wouldn’t be concerned about having children here, but even late at night it was pretty noisy.
The pool area was also spotlessly clean, as was the lobby. I’d take my family there but request a room further from the highway, just for the noise level.
I did read the complaints about the Wifi, and will say that I was too tired to try it!

We were in Phoenix for 5 nights. I am really glad that we selected this Residence Inn. The staff were friendly and helpful. The manager resolved an issue with our reservations in a kind and professional manner. Our room was very clean. I would stay here again if I return to the Phoenix area.

The stars are for the great customer service! The hotel itself is not 5 star, the hotel is probably closer to 3 but it was clean, and I can overlook a bit when customer service is top notch! For starters when we walked into our room for the first time… it smelled and we were wanting to move. They gave us a couple of rooms to check out, but when all was said and done we opted to stay in that room. I had brought my Ozium so we just sprayed that liberally the first night and cleared out that stench. Then, when I needed to print up some documents and get them scanned and emailed… the guy at the front desk was beyond accommodating! Took care of everything for me and was so friendly. I wish I remembered his name… but he was working on 12÷4÷14 and it was around 7pm. Nice guy. Then they were good about bringing us extra towels. And then this morning we were finally able to go to the breakfast buffet! It always started at 6am and unfortunately, we had to leave the hotel by 6am. It was good, but the highlight was Liz. She was great and made it a fun time during our breakfast. So if you want to have a comfortable stay and nice customer service then this is a great spot!

After searching for a meeting room big enough to host a baby shower and was available on a Sunday afternoon (most hotels in this area were booked every Sunday for church!) we found this place. A week or two before the shower we received an email telling us the original sales person we were dealing with no longer worked there and was then given someone else that would be handling everything. When we emailed this new person it took her forever to respond. So with a week before the shower I go to the hotel to just double check that everything was still ok and that our event was still scheduled. Upon arriving the front desk staff grabbed the General Assistant Manager, I did not catch his name, all I caught was him being very annoyed that I was there checking on everything. I explained that the person setting everything up was concerned that we hadn’t heard from the new person and the event was in 6 days. He assured me that whatever was booked before the lady left was still on the schedule and there were no worries. I said great thank you and asked to see the room to get an idea of how we were gonna set up and to see the size of it. Again he was annoyed that I was there asking.
The day of the event we show up a little early to start setting up and go to check in to the meeting room and the staff was not aware at all that we were coming! She pulled the event book out and our sheet was not in there even though I had been reassured that we were still scheduled just 6 days before! I was very upset and very disappointed that after I was reassured, by the annoyed assistant manager, that we were still scheduled, we show up and nothing is set up or even expected!
The staff that was working that afternoon were however very helpful and wonderful in quickly getting the room set up and running for us! And that is the only good thing I can say about this hotel. The staff was amazing at helping us get set up and also if we needed anything else they got right on top of our request and took care of it!
Very disappointed in management especially with how he acted when I came to check on our reservation and then lied about it being still on the books! I have worked in hospitality before and this is completely unacceptable behavior for customer service!

I usually stay here when I travel for work. Marriott is one of my company’s «preferred» hotel chains. Our Phoenix office is literally 5 minutes away. The only reason I stay here is because it’s convenient.
The staff is friendly and helpful. They offer complimentary breakfast, which is average. They also have an evening social hour and provide food on certain nights. But, the options aren’t appealing to me. There’s a small pool and outdoor patio area with a little fire pit.
The condo-​converted rooms may be older, but they’re clean. They do smell a bit musty. There’s a full kitchen. The appliances and kitchen items seem fairly new and appear barely used. If you plan on using the oven, turn on the vent. It may have that plastic-​y new oven smell, when in use. They do have plates, cups and cutlery, as well as hand towels and kitchen mitts. But, they do not provide coffee filters, baking pans and I don’t even remember seeing pans to cook with.
My biggest gripe is the «free wifi» is just crap. A whole lotta crap. I’ve even attempted to add the «enhanced wifi» for $ 5 a night and I got connection errors. I’m here for work and that means I may need to pull extra hours on my laptop. I would like to do it from the comfort of my hotel room, but I can’t. How is work possible when the standard connection seems to drop every 5 minutes and I get connection errors, when I try for the enhanced wifi?
The hotel complex itself is located in a dark and sketchy neighborhood and it’s right next to the freeway. My last night there, I woke up at 1 AM to the sound of 5 gun shots, which sounded as if they were a few blocks away. Five minutes later a helicopter was searching over the hotel complex and the apartment complex next door. Kinda reminded me of the old ‘hood I grew up in…
Uh…thank goodness I double-​locked my doors???

I booked here using rewards points for one room and paid for another after having a horrible experience elsewhere at a different chain.
It was perfect for what we wanted, close to the freeway with a pool and parking right in front of our rooms!
The place is like studio apartment and the AC was a relief from the blasting heat of a 9 hour ride on the bikes.
The person that checked us in was so nice, she even called to make sure we were happy with our rooms. She got us rooms next to each other and close to the pool.
It was a little slice of heaven to recharge our road trip weary bodies.

For a Marriott property I expected more, a lot more; especially as a Platinum member. The rooms are ok and are the older apartment style that some Residence Inns were built under, your own entrance, etc. The staff is pleasant, however that’s where the positive remarks end.
Another user mentioned the internet, it’s awful. Initially the internet was so bad they had hot spots from Verizon brought in, and things worked perfectly. Well they went through last week and took all the hot spots since the «upgrade» was complete through Ethos. Guess what? Internet is still awful in many buildings and no matter how much you ask management for the hot spot back, and tell them it’s not efficient internet, they aren’t listening. What should have taken 3 minutes, at most to purchase a plane ticket, ended up being 33. Today a message was left with the front desk and was promised a return call, didn’t happen. Management needs to understand that technology is a staple to away from home travelers, especially when advertised as high speed and it is running at dial up pace.
For the price and the amenities, skip this spot and head to the Peoria exit and stay at Hilton Homewood Suites, assuming you need a long term style hotel.

I am really surprised that Marriott has not phased out these old style Residence Inns. This hotel is probably one of the original Residence Inns when Marriott started building them back in the late 80’s. With that said, the concept still works. It is a hotel room with a kitchen etc… The good of this hotel is that the staff was friendly and the room was clean. That is about where it stops. The hallways were filthy. The TV doesn’t even have High Definition and the channels weren’t programed right on my TV so I had to scroll through a lot of snow channel’s to find what I wanted to watch. My rate was very good so overall I was satisfied. But, if I had been paying rack rate I would have been pretty ticked off.

I’d prefer to give the hotel a 2.5, but I don’t know that it quite deserves a 3.
I stayed here with my family for a couple of night this past weekend. The first thing we noticed was that the hallway had a peculiar odor about it (one of us remarked that it «smells like convention hall donuts» — others thought it smelled like cigarettes). The rooms are clean and comfortable and it’s a totally acceptable hotel. My biggest complaint was that the internet access was abhorrent. The front desk reset their routers twice and it didn’t seem to make any difference (I’m quite tech savvy — so it’s not a case of user error — the speed was just terrible). It made it difficult to use the internet for much of anything and took us 10 minutes just to check in for our flights (a process that should have taken less than 2).
The family chose this hotel based on a stay here years ago and a bit of nostalgia about that experience, but we certainly won’t be staying here again when there are other hotels for the same price with better amenities.

This is a bad, sketchy location with old rooms. The staff is very nice, though. I’ve stayed at newer Residence Inns, and they are so much nicer. They only give you two towels. The tub is old; too scary to take a bath in. Breakfast was not ready at 6:15 when it opened at 6:00.
Bed and pillows are super uncomfortable! It’s located next to 1 – 17 and can be very loud. Blah.
