Sixt Rent a Car

0 stars, crappy company, bad customer service, over priced, rude employees. Save yourself a headache and go elsewhere.

I rent a lot of cars in a lot of cities, and while I normally try to avoid chains, it can be hard to do in places like Phoenix. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Sixt.
First plus — walking past a humungous line at Fox Rent A Car (probably at least an hour wait) to a 4-​person-​deep line at Sixt — I was at the counter within 10 minutes.
Second plus — my service was fast, friendly and on point. No arguing or pushing about insurance when I declined, no surprises. Just exactly what I ordered at the exact price I booked. I was away from the counter within about 3 minutes of walking up to it. Also I got a free upgrade to a Nissan Sentra.
Third plus — The car was clean and ready to rock when I got down to the desk. No waiting, no BS.
Fourth — The car worked great.
Returning the car was even easier — drive up, drop it, walk away. Easy-​peasy.
I’ll easily rent from Sixt again.

I recently rented a van from Sixt to transport a group of visitors around the city. I was very pleased with the professionalism of those I encountered upon rental and return. The vehicle was in excellent condition with every feature I needed. This was a great experience and I will use them again.

Good pricing as they try to break into the North America market. The car I reserved was not available so they gave me an upgrade. The poor girl at the counter was frazzled and threatening to quit to another employee — but she took care of me. Returning the car was a bit of a pain because the attendant who checked you in could not provide a receipt. I had to walk to another counter where it was quickly taken care of. As long as they have REALLY good pricing and nice cars I’ll keep coming back. If the prices go up I may not.

The cheapest rental I could find and was a little concerned but everything was great. The selection of new luxury cars and SUV was much better than the others. The Cadillac SUV was top notch, very clean and low mileage. Check out was a little confusing because it seem to direct you downstairs when the counters us up stairs with the other ones at Sky Harbor. The check in was the best experience, quick, easy and receipt emailed to me as I stood there

Best car renting experience I have ever had. The staff were friendly and helpful. They even gave me a complimentary upgrade! Everything was quick and easy and I was well on my way in no time. I would highly recommend this place!

I reserved a Mercedes CLA. When I arrived I was told they couldn’t rent me that car because I wanted to use a debit card. After returning the car I did get, I got a bill including all the additional coverages even though I declined them. When I talked to customer service I was told that I should have checked my rental agreement closer before I left the counter and that since the coverage was in effect for the rental period they would not refund my money. As this company is new to the market you would think they would be trying to impress customers rather than alienating them. I tried them once, never again.

Not what I reserved, small selection and shaky customer service. I will try it in another state and update my review then. Yes it is «higher end» cars but the smallest of the fleets. Didn’t honor the Web special that I printed out as well as called prior to my arrival and confirmed. Young staff, hopefully they can change with experienced management.

Sixt had the best price by far of the rental companies at Phoenix airport. The reservation agent (Ian) was courteous and professional but not pushy in the least. I inquired about available upgrades and decided on the Mercedes GLE (rebranded M-​class) SUV. Ian checked on different discount programs so I got an excellent rate. Car was almost new and spotless — an incredible vehicle. Only blip was the agent in the garage was not at the counter so I had to wait a few minutes. When returning the vehicle, the process was quick and the rep was friendly.
Overall, a very good experience — at least on par or better than the other rental companies I’ve used at Phoenix airport — and at a much better rate. Definitely will check them out next time I’m on a trip where Sixt has a location.

Sixt was by far the best deal I could find online for my 3 day Phoenix trip. I picked up the car Wednesday afternoon and walked right up to the counter. They didn’t push any upgrades or insurance on me. In fact, they gave me an upgrade to a midsized Nissan Sentra.
You go to the bottom floor garage to pick up your car and do your own self-​inspection. The car was clean, inside and out. It was new, just about 3,000 miles and a push start.
Getting out of the airport was easy and return Friday night was super fast and easy, as well. The gentleman looked at the car to check for damage and a full gas tank. He then said I’m all good and verified my email address to send a receipt. I received the email immediately with no unexpected charges. I would definitely use Sixt again! Their deals can’t be beat and their customer service is great.

I exhausted my search for a car, originally wanting an AWD vehicle and found the Sixt site. Having no luck finding what I wanted at a reasonable price, I liked that Sixt offered premium cars at what seemed much lower rates that the other rental companies.
Read reviews both positive and very negative and decided to take my chances and go with it.
Overall a good experience. I reserved a Mercedes GLA and since I really wanted to give that exact car a try, I emailed the company asking that if it was truly available, could they note to be sure I could get it. I received a reply but it was a fairly stock answer, saying they’d try but could not guarentee.
When I arrived, my chosen vehicle or any in that class was not available and I ended up being upgraded to a BMW X5, which would have cost 3x the money elsewhere. Yes, it was pretty nice, but honestly I would have preferred the smaller versions, but I realize others would have jumped at this.
The cons are:
1. I pre-​registered all our details in order to quicken the check-​in process. It seemed to make zero difference, so I am unsure why anyone should bother. However at 8:30 pm on a Fri night, there was no line, so the check-​in was pretty quick.
2. The employee was nice, however, tried first to up-​sell us to the next higher class level for an additional $ 250 and offered us the very same BMW X5 we ended up with, pretending he had no clue what we reserved. It was pretty obvious, he was not a great actor. After I pointed out I already reserved the Mercedes GLA, he shuffled around and then said, well it seems we don’t have that class available so you’re in luck and being upgraded (!). I did not appreciate him trying to get us to pay almost double when they did not even have our chosen vehicle in stock.
3. Given the cost of a BMW X5, I was surprised it did not have USB ports or Sirius radio. Not that it would be a deal-​breaker, but I find them available on fair less expensive vehicles at other agencies.
Having said this, all else was a good experience, drop off was super quick and easy and I’d rent again. Just don’t let them talk you into spending 2x as much!

Sixt is always my first choice of car rental when everything else is about the same (price, car model …) too bad they do not have many locations like the big boys.

My husband and I landed a car rental deal with Sixt through Hotwire for a weekend trip to Phoenix. We hadn’t heard of the company, but rolled with it, and everything turned out fine. It was in the same complex as all the other car rental companies, a shuttle hop from our airport terminal. When we got to the counter on a Friday evening, there was no line.
Amazingly, some horrible asshole managed to cut us as we approached the counter – he slid over from an adjacent rental company’s counter and just stood in front of us. We were about three feet from the counter at the time. It was so blatant I think the Sixt representative should have said something. Instead, she helped him while we stood behind gaping.
On the bright side, it was a pleasure to watch this dickhead pay out the fucking nose for his weekend rental. He’d come over to Sixt to haggle after getting too high a quote at the next counter, and he seemed to think he was driving a hard bargain. Yet when the Sixt woman quoted him $ 250 for his rental, he took the deal like a sucker, lapping up every single upsell. Sweet, beautiful karma.
We paid $ 75 for our rental, and that seemed more appropriate. The Sixt lady didn’t try to upsell us, either. We got a Chevy Trax – the same model as Mr. Rude’s – and it gave us no problems. Pick-​up and drop-​off were nice and easy. I wouldn’t go out of my way to support one rental company over another, but we had a good enough time with Sixt that I’d be happy if Hotwire matched us again.

All i all it was a good experience. I worried over the reviews bit decided tonsave the $ 100 and give them a try. Checkin was a breeze and it took very little time to get the brand new Hyundai out of the garage. I expected a tiny car but ours was a 4 door.
The only annoyance was the customer service around not buying their insurance. Most places push a little and the Sixt employee seemed disgruntled by it. They said that since we didn’t buy coverage they wouldn’t dova walk around of the car with us. What that tells me is that their insurance is more profit center than protection. As it probably is for most companies and yet I have never had the unfriendly customer service to go with it.
Finally, I left my hat in the car and tried to use the lost and found online but their form requires a rental agreement number which they don’t provide anywhere. I emailed customer service and never heard back.
In the end I believe it was a good deal overall. I don’t really expect there to be good service for that low price. It was quick and no fuss which I like.

This place will test your patience on how they handle customers. There were two people behind the desk, and neither of them had a clue what was going on. I had a full-​size car rental, and they kept discussing back and forth between themselves what cars they had available. They kept making calls to the garage verifying what was in stock. Eventually, after nearly half and hour, they just upgraded us to an SUV. When you check out your car, there’s no gate to sign off on any damages you might have on your vehicle before heading out. You don’t realize that (usually there’s a final gate before you’re let out of the garage) — in this case, you just go and you end up outside. Just weird. I’d prefer not using them again.
Aren’t employees (at all rental companies) taught that you should check expected reservations for the day BEFOREHAND?

The standard size that we rented when we got there was a VW Beetle. I wasn’t expecting that and when we spoke to the employee at the counter, she wasn’t very helpful and gave us a very high quote for an upgrade. She also wasn’t very pleasant.
We then ran downstairs to go get the car and there was no one at the counter. We waited for a while and the employee from another company with a desk right next to Sixt grabbed the key to give to us. So far, no customer service aside from a not so friendly interaction that lasted a few minutes. No one checked the car on the way out or checked us out at all.
When we returned the car, the employee was fine and rushed us out quickly since we were getting close to our flight time. We had to file a claim since a rock hit our windshield while driving on the highway. I had insurance through AMEX and so I let them handle it. The insurance company did a great job of keeping me informed and did their best to keep the process moving. Sixt was not very responsive to their requests and the process took a while.
After the payout, there was a balance of $ 75 left over for an expense that Sixt was not able to justify. They were claiming a rental loss of about $ 25 and an «administration fee» of $ 50. The insurance needed proof that there was no other car available at the time the Beetle was being repaired and needed clarification on what the $ 50 was to ensure it went beyond the normal, which they never got. So Sixt decided to charge me and says that according to the contract I am liable to the outstanding charges. Those charges are arbitrary and would have been covered by the insurance if they had documentation to provide. I’ll try another company with less shady and absent business practices next time.

Nothing bad to say, other than the all of PHX car rentals are offsite a ride on a bus to the rental car terminal. I rented a very nice BMW all of the employees were really fast and helpful, I would rent at Sixt again.

I booked a CLA-​class Mercedes a few days ago for my dad while he was in Europe on a business trip so that he would have something nice to drive when he got back to the States. A day prior to my dad’s arrival, I called ahead and requested that the CLA be reserved for a photo shoot, and Sixt confirmed my reservation and assured me that one would be available for my father. When he arrived at Phoenix airport and took a shuttle to go pick up his rental car, he spoke to the woman who I spoke to on the phone to pick up his CLA.
Now, I personally own, drive, and love my CLA45 AMG Mercedes. It is simply and incredible machine. In fact, I’ve loved every Mercedes vehicle I have ever driven. They are simply the most meticulously engineered and reliable vehicles you can buy. There is truly no substitute.
When my dad asked to pick up his CLA for the day, he was told by the woman at the desk that EVERY Mercedes C-​class AND CLA-​class model owned by Sixt was recalled BY MERCEDES BENZ USA due to manufacturer defects and that they were «unavailable for rental». He was instead offered an older, baseline Volvo. If you know anything about cars, you know a baseline Volvo and a current model year CLA-​class Mercedes are not interchangeable. Obviously Sixt knows jack about cars. I could not believe my ears as my dad told me what had happened to him.
I am shocked and disgusted that such a company would operate in this way. I called their office, and the same woman spoke to me rudely after I pointed out her obvious lie to my father. I called their support line, and after sitting on the phone for an hour, I was told that a manager would be calling my father in a few minutes to apologise and make things right. Six hours later, no one has called my father to apologise. They refused to refund the money I paid for the first day’s rental of the car. I called my credit card company and had them remove the funds from Sixt’s bank account, and I also reported the incident as consumer fraud.
Stay away from Sixt. STAY AWAY.

I liked them! Great car, great price, nice peeps, no line! What more could a girl ask for?!
Yes they do charge your credit card double deposit, but it was promptly refunded! They have some nice cars! Audie, Volvos, BMW, who wants to go out of town and drive a flippin Corolla or Focus!!! Ohhhh no, Ill pay the double deposit and not complain!

This was my first time renting with this company, and — even with the problems we had with the reservation and my corporate card — I am a fan.
I flew into Phoenix from Seattle to get an SUV and deliver some crates to Bend, OR. I would then drive the vehicle to Seattle and fly home from there. Not easy arrangements to make, but they had the best deal, so we went with it.
Once in PHX, they didn’t have an SUV. Paul, the young gentleman at the counter, said he’d find something for me, so I described the size of the cargo and he made a phone call. He said, «Looks like you get a free upgrade!» Unfortunately, with the upgraded hold on the credit card, all we got was smoke from the machine.
It seems that the deposit they require on your CC is DOUBLE the amount of the entire rental. Ouch. I had to call my employer and ask if they could raise my limit. Sixt does not take debit cards, even for double the amount.
All told, the CC issue took a couple of hours. I didn’t want to take it out on Paul, who was not only professional, but very helpful and sweet. He was even willing to call the competition to see if they had an SUV for me.
We go the limit raised, and getting the car itself took minutes. Paul said he had hung onto the upgrade (even though other SUVs had come in during our wait), because I deserved it. They honored the original price.
I enjoyed the long drive in my BMW.
Drop off at SEA was easy-​peesy, and I was on my way to TSA with no delay.
