Enchanted April Inn

My husband and I just stayed there this past weekend, as we were attending a wedding up in the area. We loved it! The entrance and the grounds itself were beautiful. We definitely felt secluded on this private property, (in a good way). It is a smaller house with 4 available guest rooms so in the morning we could hear the voices downstairs, but by then it was time to get up for breakfast anyways. :) The breakfasts were honestly the best I’ve ever had, and my husband was impressed with the food as well. You are able to serve yourself, choose where you would like to sit, and we were always full and so relaxed after we finished because of the amount of food and the beautiful view. One morning we ate out front on the rocking chairs, and the other day we ate out back surrounded by a gorgeous pool/​plants/​hanging grape vines. Also in this dining area, they have free, local, artist-​made bookmarks to take, there was some Peanut Brittle, and Elke made us chocolate chip cookies thanking us for our stay which was hanging on our door the last night that we were there. :) She is so thoughtful and cares about her guests and their experience.
Elke also does a wonderful job of labeling everything from the food, to the light switches, as well as reminders. Being a woman and having a horrible memory, I appreciated this so much! We stayed in «Soothing Waters» which is the nicest of the 4 rooms, with a good-​sized shower, tall water head, 2-​person tub, and queen sized bed. I do wish that the bed was a king size, but the sheets were definitely amazing; they are the best, seriously! I am also a little bit of a germaphobe, and I was impressed with the cleanliness of our room and especially happy with the choice of hard wood floors, instead of carpet. Our patio was great as well, we could see the back yard and the front yard. There were outlets in the lamps to charge our phones, there was ample space for our luggage and to sit at the desk or on the chairs. Wifi worked for us on our cellphones too. When we needed an iron and ironing board, Elke pulled it right out and set it up for my husband and put it away for him when he was done.
Elke’s recommendations for local restaurants was spot-​on! In Cool, we went to «The Cork and Fork» for dinner. The atmosphere was great, the servers were so helpful and friendly, and our food was delicious. We also went to «Beerwerks» where my husband had some local beers and we shared amazing Japanese food! Finally, the «Argonaut Farm to Fork Café» was the 3^rd great recommendation which included local, organic smoothies, baked goods, juices and food. All of these places were impressive thanks to her suggestions.
I would highly recommend staying here! We paid about $ 300 a night, but it was so worth the money. I am already telling my friends about this B&B. This was our first time at a B&B, but a couple of the guests who were also staying here said that it is the best they have ever stayed at in all of their experiences with B&B’s. My expectations are high now thanks to Elke!

We recently stayed at the Enchanted April Inn to celebrate our 4^th wedding anniversary (a fitting place to celebrate as we got engaged in Coloma). We stayed in the Soothing Waters room and it was well worth the price — a luxurious and spacious bathroom with a heavenly Jacuzzi tub. The Inn was a haven of peace and relaxation and we needed it badly! The setting was gorgeous. There are horses living there, and the gardens and vineyard surrounding the house are immaculate. We stayed in early May and it was the perfect time to be there. Elke is a great host and an interesting person. You can tell that much thought has been put into virtually every aspect of the experience (lots of details). The bed is AMAZING and the breakfast was delicious! I HIGHLY recommend this place for a relaxing stay.

My boyfriend wanted to do something special for me after I received a clean ct scan and another year of being cancer free. Elke was wonderful and provided us with recommendations for dinner, maps of the area, and even coupons off at local wineries which we ended up using. The inn was a perfect reset for a stressful time because of my health. The grounds were gorgeous to wander. Both of us loving photography couldn’t get enough of all the picturesque views. Fireplace, balcony, relaxing bath, and wonderful conversation… Breakfast was phenomenal and Rowdy the Boston terrier was a bonus with all his happy snorts when you found the perfect spot petting him. I really needed the escape and will be making a point to return because one night wasn’t enough…

Beautiful inn in the foothills. The home is immaculate. The rooms are outstanding. The grounds are pristine including a pool area, garden, pond, horse arena. The breakfast buffet is awesome.

Very nice bed and breakfast. Excellent service by the Baroness, she is a wonderful cook and whipped up delicious breakfasts each morning. The ground are lovely and it is a great place to enjoy a book or a glass of wine in one of the many seating areas. The rooms are wonderfully furnished with fantastic sheets. Highly recommend it.

Lovely place. My wife and I wanted a quick getaway, a place to relax and just slow-​down. Enchanted April was perfect. The grounds are gorgeous: lovely lawn, pond surrounded by willows, beautiful gardens with lavender, roses and butterfly bush (with plenty of butterflies!), great Olives and a exquisite Maple, and wonderful grapes making their way up the slope behind the house. Across the front acreage horses enjoy their space, and as guest, you can enjoy their majestic presence. Our room was also lovely — a good size, comfortable, clean and elegant. What we greatly appreciated was the attention to detail in making our stay special and comfortable. For example, the quality of the linens on the bed and in the bathroom were exceptional, the availability of items like candles on the patio, and the numerous water features so the soothing sound of water was always near just made they entire stay so extremely pleasant. Finally, the breakfast was amazing! Kudos (and thank you!), Elke!

My husband and I stayed here this weekend to celebrate our 5^th wedding anniversary. This place is very relaxing, private, and peaceful. There are many quiet sitting areas to choose from including the pond, backyard, and front of the house. Elke is a very kind and classy hostess. The house itself is clean and cozy. Our room was nice with a private balcony. Elke recommended a great winery and restaurant for us to visit. I highly recommend coming here for a nice and unique place to stay.

My fiancé and I chose this place for a romantic getaway earlier this year. Overall, the location and house was very pleasant, clean and cozy. However, I think the reviews here are a bit overrated considering the price of our room and the experience that we had staying here. We stayed in Meadow Lark. Again, the room was cozy but was smaller than expected. The walls were very thin, we can hear people checking-​in downstairs and walking up and down the stairs. We can even hear other guests chatting away in the room next door. We had our own bathroom but it was across the hall. Initially we didn’t mind this, but it was a bit of a hassle when going to the restroom in the middle of the night. Also, it would have been great if a TV was installed in the room since we wanted to watch some romantic movies over popcorn and wine within the comfort of own space without going downstairs– we felt we didn’t want to disturb other guest in the house. But even then, food was not permitted in the room, which was understandable since some guest might be more messier than others. What was odd was that had to eat our dinner in another room that was outside the house. The room looked like a former garage space or an extension of the house since supplies and other arts and crafts stuff were stored there along with one microwave and a refrigerator. I have to say eating a romantic dinner in that room was not romantic at all :(In short, our experience at this B&B was like staying at a friend’s house where it was slightly uncomfortable for the both of us. Or maybe it was like staying at my mom’s place with a house full of people, so were had to be mindful of other people and followed some household rules. I would recommend this place for other B&B fans to check it out, but I don’t think we would go back anytime soon.

Enchanted April Inn is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life in the San Francisco Bay Area and Greater Sacramento Area. It’s easily accessible and the area has a lot to offer. Elke is a superb hostess anticipating every guests needs and desires. Each and every room in the house is beautifully appointed. The property is such an oasis of calm and beauty. We had a wonderful stay and are already looking forward to our next visit.

What a great get-​away! The grounds are beautiful and so is the inn. Elke was a fabulous hostess. She put so many personal touches into making our stay wonderful. From adjustments for my breakfast needs to insisting we borrow her gold pans and chairs for our adventures so we didn’t have to buy them. Rowdy, her boston terrier, gives such a sweet welcome and we enjoyed his company when we were lounging in the yard. There is a small pond out front that is filled with frogs and there is a peddle boat for two that we peddled to the little island in the pond that is set up with chairs and ate our breakfast. There is a vineyard on the grounds and an area for outdoor massages. And the sheets!!! Oh my. The best I’ve ever slept in! So soft. The bathroom had lots of items in case you forgot something. We will definitely be back!

This amazing B and B is by far the most unique and luxurious B and B or Inn my boy– friend and I have stayed in, and we’ve stayed at a variety of nice places. Elke, the owner, doesn’t leave out one detail to provide comfort to the guests. We stayed in the Soothing Waters suite, which has a large spa tub, and luxury shower, as well as a lighted fountain on the wall for beauty and ambiance. The bed linens were unlike any I’ve ever experienced before, made out of bamboo fiber, so they felt like a thicker version of silk — they made the comfortable bed that much more soothing and cozy. We also used the outdoor hot tub at night, which is stellar. The ranch grounds are beautifully kept, and the horses are fun to observe. Rowdy, the little dog, is so adorable and fun. The food was delicious and presented on beautiful service. There is also always plenty of gourmet teas and coffees in the gorgeous gathering rooms on the first floor, where there is also broad selection of games, books and magazines.
Elke herself was graciously helpful and accessible and exuded a truly caring energy, while respecting our space. As a side-​note, the wineries and towns in the area are easy and quite close, as are the hiking/​horse-​back riding nature areas. Yet despite the proximity, at night the sky is so clear, all we could see were stars, and all we could hear were the sounds of nature — no light or sound pollution.
We can’t wait to go back to this peaceful, refreshing inn.

When we drove up the long driveway, we were greeted by 6 horses in different parts of her corral. Upon exiting the car, you start to relax immediately as the peace and quiet surrounds you… Elke made us feel as if we were staying at her home, not an Inn. Rowdy the dog was there to greet us as well. Breakfast in the morning was not only beautiful, but very tasty. We took our tray outside and sat under a large walnut tree watching the horses eat and the various barn cats lurking around the small pond.
Afterwards Elke suggested a few places to visit for the day, they were all very sound and wise choices for us, as we enjoyed driving around and seeing the sites. We ate dinner at the Cork and Fork just down the road in Cool, CA. But that is another review coming up.
We purchased carrots to feed the horses, they were very friendly and enjoyed every bite of the carrots!
All in all, if your looking to relax, get away from the stresses of the the day, and just recharge your inner batteries, this is the place to go. We will be back, and we will enjoy it just as much as we did before.

My husband treated me to a get away at this beautiful inn and after spending two blissful evenings there, I have declared this our anniversary get away from now on. I am amazed at how gracious Elke is. It’s the little touches that really impress me. For example, there is a splendid breakfast each morning, and always options for eggs. Elke made amazing egg dishes each morning that were full of fresh tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, and bacon. There were boiled eggs, and cottage cheese. Coffee and tea is always available, ²⁴⁄₇ via a nifty one cup brewer kept in the common room. I can drink coffee at all hours, and it was so nice to be able to go make myself a hot cup, fresh, every time, and with different roasts to choose from.
We ate our breakfast under a large walnut tree overlooking horses in their corrals each morning.
There was a huge bowl of fresh ripe cut fruit each morning. Rasberries, figs, bananas, nectarines, grapes, and apples.
And the rooms were so nice. The sheets felt like silk and they were clean and fresh, and because Elke is very considerate of patrons with allergies she uses eco friendly detergents. You won’t find that bleachy smell on the sheets like you do at even the finest hotels.
I always have to have a tub when on a trip, the spa tub in our bathroom was sheer bliss. I always travel with a bottle of my favorite bath gel, but I also enjoyed the generous containers of bath salts and bubble bath that were already provided.
There is plenty to do off the property too but to be honest, we only went out for a few hours and came back to relax in the backyard. I hI ad a nice sunny nap on the hammock.
This is simply the loveliest B&B I have ever stayed at, and we are looking forward to returning, year after year.

My husband and I stayed here the night of our wedding. During the day Elke was nice enough to let us photograph on the outside property and inside the Inn with my bridal party. It’s absolutely beautiful there! The room we had was romantic and very comfortable. The sheets and comforter were like sleeping in a cloud. We loved the large bathtub that had jets in it! In the morning she had a delicious breakfast for us. We loved our time there and can’t wait to go back on our anniversary next year!

My husband and I just stayed at Enchanted April Inn while we were in the area for a wedding. It was so peaceful and relaxing! We loved our stay and it was a nice getaway from our normal city life.
Elke was very welcoming and even upgraded us to a bigger room for no charge. Our room was clean and very nice. We chose a room without a bathroom connected, but we didn’t mind walking across the hall to use our bathroom. We didn’t have to share the bathroom with any other guests so it was fine.
Elke provided a light continental breakfast which included yogurt, toast, fruit and muffins. She also provided trays to take the breakfast outside and enjoy the amazing view. I LOVED the 24 hour access to the coffee/​tea machine. I definitely used that a lot during our stay.
On Friday night we enjoyed a movie outside (The original version of Father of the Bride) with free popcorn and water provided by Elke. We also brought our own bottle of wine to drink while watching the movie.
Overall, our stay was great! We appreciated all of the special touches (Elke left little treats on the door when we got back from outings) and the kindness of the owner who even took the time to give us coupons to local restaurants and directions to the wedding we were going to.
Upon our checkout Elke gave us a gift for staying (we chose a painted rock and a pack of cards from a local artist). We highly recommend this place if you are looking for a peaceful place to unwind away from the busy world around.

It was an «enchanted» surprise for us to find this country estate.
Visual delights and restful moments so reminiscent of the movie Enchanted April, we just wanted to sit and not have to do anything.
First and foremost there was the Rowdy Yates and Edward Bear experience.
Rowdy is aptly named and he engaged Edward in some fun games.
I am aware Edward is missing his little friend today now that we are home.
Edward Bear is our English bulldog who travels California with us.
The second most important detail or is this the first, well both are neck and neck, and that is meeting Elke. Elke has many wonderful things to share, her knowledge, her history and her many family heirlooms. I am counting her among some of my best new friends.
Many have commented on the bed linens and the comfortable beds. The bed lines are world class, Elke’s attention to detail and the assortment of amenities if you perchance to forget something are all there for you.
The Inn is «pet friendly» and «horse friendly». There are so many gorgeous trails to ride I wished I had a horse!

This place is amazing. Elke is a great host. I can’t believe how comfortable and warm this place is. If you can’t relax then something is wrong with you. Llamas, horses, beautiful décor, close to hiking/​biking/​rafting. Breakfast is amazing! I’ve never had a lovely 2 course breakfast like this! OJ, coffee, great bottled water, cheese blitz, fresh yogurt with granola, poached eggs in ham cup, fresh cut potatoes, and asparagus. It was lunch and breakfast under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond and horses. You can eat in the dining room or anywhere on the property. Their are chairs, benches, rocking chairs, patio, so many choices!
If we had a BBQ, it would have been wonderful!
She suggested a couple of local places for food. We didn’t want to drive back to Auburn (only 10 miles or so but it was getting late and dark).
We had the place to ourselves which was nice but this place only has 4 rooms. A real B&B. We stayed in the suite but all the rooms are nice. The Jacuzzi tub is fab!
I had a little headache but Elke had a ‘first aid’ kit in the bathroom with what you needed from advil to tylenol.
She has really thought of everything.

This is a very relaxing and beautiful little Bed and Breakfast. I am so glad I booked a room here for our rafting trip. This B&B only has 4 guest rooms, so it feels very intimate and is like a home away from home. Each room is thoughtfully decorated and furnished. We stayed in the more feminine looking room which reminded me of a doll house.
Elke makes a really good 2-​course breakfast. We tried her honey cake, German pancake, fruit cake with fresh cream, and vegetable quiche. it was all delicious. We had to wake up super early on both days and she was so accommodating and woke up extra early to prepare breakfast for us.
If you need tips for dinner or activities, Elke has plenty of suggestions. She recommended the Sierra Nevada House for dinner and it was delicious. You can also go rafting and wine tasting in the summer, and apple picking in the fall.
Tips: In the summer, Elke can hook you up with discounts for rafting. The B&B has free wi-​fi, dining room, family room, conference room, outdoor grill and patio, pool, jacuzzi, and front patio. She has two dogs and a cat, so this place may not be for you if you don’t like pets or if you have allergies.
I was very happy with my 2-​night stay here, wish I could have stayed longer :)

I love it here. I have stayed in two rooms. First time, in the room with a bathroom that wasn’t the suite. I love the shower and the walk in closet.
The second time I came with my husband and we rented the whole house with friends so I was OK with sharing the bathroom and stayed in the more feminine of the two rooms that share a bath. We loved the room. The bed was so comfortable and there was a little gas fireplace that kept us warm all night.
We sat out in the front yard before the sun went down. It was so beautiful. In the evening we sat at the fire pit in the backyard next to the pool with fountains.
Wonderful breakfast. Special attention to detail. Really nice woman who runs the inn. There when you need her, absent when you don’t. Lots of special touches. She remembered our preferences from our first visit and they were just there on our second.
Just perfect.
