Meet the Business Owner

Elke S.

Business Owner

Since childhood, Elke has had a dream of living in a farmhouse and often sketched pictures of what her ideal farmhouse would look like. Then one night, while surfing on the Internet, she found it. «I instantly knew», she recalls. «There’s my house». «But where», she asked herself, «is Pilot Hill? » «When I drove up to the gate, I saw that it was even more beautiful than I thought it would be.»

Gold rush history abounds in this area. Rumor has it that an old supply route ran along her creek to bring goods from Cool to Coloma. An old ruin on a nearby parcel is said to have been a brothel. She expanded the vineyard and added an olive grove. She placed Provencal lavender plants and stone walls around the Tuscan-style reflecting pool. A Baroness whose family originated in Transylvania, was born here and grew up in California. She has always loved the Gold Country and thinks it’s the most beautiful part of the state. «Looking for gold, it’s the American dream».
