My husband and I stopped in here on our way back to Goose Creek from some hiking up north. Boy, are we glad we did! Ward’s is actually a small local chain based in Sumter, the town north of the Pinewood location. They do all their barbecuing at one location, then deliver it fresh daily to their 5 restaurant storefronts, which are open Thursday-Saturday. Pinewood’s location has been operating as a BBQ restaurant for 50+ years, and it shows. Since it was our first time there, we went with the recommendation of the pork dinner, which comes with pork hash over rice, coleslaw, potato salad, 2 corn fritters, and pulled pork. It is ALL very good, but the pork hash is particularly outstanding. The best part? Your full meal, drink included, will come out to right around $ 10. If you can, chat with the workers there; they’re very friendly and love to hear how people heard about them. Totally worth the drive, especially if you live near Columbia!
