It is our belief that by holding a standard for educational excellence within a professional dance setting, there will be a mature and inspirational quality within both the working atmosphere and the work produced. By only employing dancers who have received a minimum of a four-year baccalaureate degree, there is a great opportunity to provide not only mature and high quality work, but also offer a high standard of education. Bodiography believes strongly that our youth will pave the way of the future. With that in mind, Bodiography is dedicated to providing quality dance education through Bodiography Center for Movement, Bodiography’s affiliated dance conservatory owned and operated by Artistic Director Maria Caruso. At this institution, Bodiography Contemporary Ballet dancers are employed as faculty members where they can explore their talents as mentors, as well as choreographers. At Bodiography Center for Movement, the educators enrich young and aspiring artists about the importance of a sound mind, body, and spirit within the technique of ballet, modern, jazz and other affiliated subjects.
History
Established in 2002.
MISSION
Originally conceived as a performance outlet for exquisite ballet dancers with healthy, athletic, but non-stereotypical ballet bodies, Bodiography Contemporary Ballet strives to bring the beauty of ballet to new dance audiences in Pittsburgh and beyond. Presenting Maria Caruso’s multi-genre movement vocabulary and popular contemporary music, Bodiography places special focus on health issues, expressing our shared humanity through intriguing, entertaining, relevant, and inspiring dance with a strong foundation in classical ballet technique.
Bodiography Contemporary Ballet also lives it’s mission through educational programming at Bodiography Center for Movement where it’s children’s classes are as refined as it’s college preparatory offerings in affiliation with La Roche College.
