Fantastic espresso. Best presentation of espresso in the city by the employee Brendan(?). Staff fun and friendly.

It is not quite as inexpensive as some of my other Pittsburgh favorites, and I locate the set up slightly cramped(but wonderful – they do an excellent job with the space they’ve) but the latte I ‘d there may have been the finest I had in Pittsburgh. It was really, truly tasty and served with a grin. I have also had a hazelnut sunflower seed biscuit, which was exceptional and delicious. I did, nonetheless, have a pretty unsatisfactory cilantro italian soda. It seemed perfect and refreshing for a sweltering day, but it really only tasted like seltzer. The service may also be somewhat slow, but the staff is friendly and this is an excellent spot that I like to discontinue into whenever I find myself in the region.

I really like Voluto. You ought to go there. Their iced tea is astounding. They have outside seating. And free parking. And exquisite furniture. And free wifi. And excellent espresso. And wonderful cups. And a great toilet. And pleasant service.

I’m writing this review in regards to finding a nice coffee shop to get some work done. I am in Pittsburgh for the weekend visiting family and I needed a place to work throughout the day on Friday. This place was recommended to me from a friend and it was so close by. This is a great space for coming in and working. High ceilings, a lot of seating, very open feeling. When I’m in most coffee shops I feel like I am on top of everyone or congested with all my stuff(laptop, notepad, bag, etc.) on a small table. Commonplace Coffee had enough space where I was comfortable even when it was pretty full. The music was at a great volume, it’s crazy how other places it is so loud I can’t even concentrate. I would absolutely come in here again if I lived around the neighborhood. The variety of seating options was a small thing but something I can appreciate; cushioned seats, long or high tables, and counter room. Enough options for everyone if you ask me. If you’ve ever worked in a coffee shop, I think you would appreciate some of those things. If not, probably sounds a little random. Also, I got a hot chocolate and it was pretty good. Had a rich chocolate taste and to me tasted a little foamy. Not too bad.

Really helpful and friendly staff :) Called in to check how many open seats there were, and the staff was engaging and friendly throughout the entire call.

Great coffee. Friendly staff. Nice space. Easy parking. Only downside is that it’s getting more and more crowded.

Bias: I go here nearly every day. I live around the corner. I like the baristas. The coffee is the best in town. The prices are fair. This would get 5 stars if it weren’t for the space. I really don’t like the interior decorating. The seats are uncomfortable. It’s echoey. It’s awkward. I’ve tried hanging out but I usually get my coffee to go. The atmosphere is much better in their Squirrel Hill location.

My favorite coffee shop! I can vouch for their espresso drinks(usually I get a capp) and they are velvety smooth, consistent as heck, and obviously made with expertise. Fair prices, comfortable and good-looking environment. And baristas are nice! If service is slow, I don’t know – I come before the crowds. They do take their time. PS I haven’t been getting the baked goods anymore; my review is on the espresso drinks and experience.

I won’t return… I’ve had high end coffee across the globe and I’m spoiled by living in Seattle for six years. Commonplace is easily one of the worst lattes I’ve ever had in my life. My drink was luke warm, had ZERO foam, and the mocha powder used wasn’t even dissolved/mixed… just a lumpy, barely warm, bland mess. I could have saved a dollar and got a higher quality drink from Dunkin’. Save your money, this isn’t high end coffee, it’s not even mediocre. How does this place have so many good reviews? Seriously Pittsburgh, you don’t know what good coffee is, apparently.

Commonplace Poluto. What is this? Some kind of slam directed at Commonplace coffee saying that they are polluting the environment? Or are they just fan of Pluto? Oh it’s a V not a P. Commonplace Voluto. What is That supposed to mean then? Is it some secret message to tell you how convoluted their coffee making is? Actually I haven’t found them to be the slamming type, nor have I noticed that they were astronauts. And the coffee is no more complicated than any other place that makes good coffee. It is quality, that I know. I once ran through a terrible Steel City blizzard risking my life to get to this place. Why would I do such a thing? Because I knew if I survived I would survive With a delicious pour-over. I survived. With a delicious pour-over. The design in here stands out a bit in the Pittsburgh specialty coffee scene. It’s far more modern than anywhere else. It’s refreshing to see something new. As far as the coffee, it’s on par with most of the other coffee shops around. Obviously they use Commonplace beans. And they brew it on their Synesso or in a pour-over. Not a whole lot more can be said. If you looked it up in Kent K’s encyclopedia of Pittsburgh coffee, it would say, «Beautiful, modern café with quality coffee.»

Great coffee. Chill environment and friendly staff. Definitely the kinda place to come and study or just take a few minutes away from the city.

The taste of coffee is really great. In my opinion, their taste is much better than any other coffee houses’ one in Shadyside. Although I live in Shadyside, I prefer to go Voluto(or the commonplace coffee in Squirrel Hill). The baristas carefully make a coffee. All cups I tried, macchiato, americano(ice & hot), cappuccino did not disappoint me. They also have the some kinds of single coffee for hand drip. The atmosphere is cozy, simple, and bright. The parking lot is another benefit too.

This place is a little expensive, and I just needed somewhere to work, so I got the cheapest thing, which was iced tea. It was pretty good. The vibe was nice — it was just noisy enough that you could focus without it being distracting. They also had vegan, gluten-free donuts which I would have loved to try had I not already had my sweet treat for the day. I know that Commonplace coffee is pretty good, so I will probably at some point return. The only issue I have is that to do an almond milk substitution is $ 1.

One of my favorite local coffee shops. Great pour over selections, lovely treats and great outdoor seating in the summer.

I just moved into the neighborhood and have been scoping this place out. I finally went in on a chilly Saturday around lunchtime. It was pretty crowded in here, which is to be expected. It’s a little tight in here and quite a number of patrons had their laptop or iPad cords strung throughout walkways, so navigating through to an open seat with a drink in hand and my coat in the other was a little difficult. My husband just got a plain coffee, which was excellent, nice and rich. I got a chai latte, which is my go-to when I want to sit down and have something«special» at a coffeeshop. I was pretty disappointed when I got it though– literally all I tasted was warm milk. I know, I know– lattes have milk in them. But I really hardly got any chai flavor at all. On top of that, it came to me just above lukewarm. Now, I’m not someone who will insist that my coffee is as hot as the sun– I usually wait a few minutes for my hot drinks to cool down to a nice, drinkable temp. So needless to say, by the time I finished my cup of steamed milk, it was cold. I’m sure I’ll come back here. I’m going to assume that my chai was a fluke and that their other lattes are more than just steamed milk with a few drops of espresso or tea. For now, I might just stick with plain ol’ black coffee.

I’m no coffee connoisseur, the latte I had this morning was delicious and definitely hit the spot on a cold winter day like today. Coffee selection was fair, not as expansive as some of the other local cafes, but what they make they seem to make very well. Very quick service made everything convenient — good place if you’re on the run or trying to stay a bit. Did I say free wifi? I went in the middle of the day during a weekday and didn’t expect to see the crowd that I did. There were about three groups that came in so the noise level was a little higher than I expected. I think if seating was a bit more group friendly it would be better. Seemed a bit cramped for the volume they seem to get. The interior wasn’t as comfortable as I would have hoped or liked for a café. It wasn’t very cozy with the hard top tables and chairs, but there was a window bar. I thought was a nice touch. I also like there were two high top tables. With paper lantern lighting I’m not sure what style to call it exactly, but it wasn’t a bad vibe. I imagine they have outdoor seating during warm weather that would be awesome out front.

Another local place for some coffee. It’s in the new part of east liberty. Support your local small coffee shops. Try the lattes and the good bake goods. Great atmosphere and a sea of laptops around. Great place and you should come here.

I’m pretty much a straight cup of joe kind of girl. And in my opinion there are three places on the east end that serve a pretty badass/killer cup: 720 Music in L’ville, Zek’s in E. Liberty and Voluto. I don’t get many chances to visit Voluto, but I do get the whole bean coffee they sell and brew it at home. It’s not quite sublime as the cup you’d get there, but it’s pretty fine nonetheless. Voluto has a nice atmosphere; it’s laid back and not pretentious. Cozy but not too small. Barristas are nice. As I said, I don’t get a soy chai half cap whatever, just my cup of coffee w/a splash of H&H, but they do a cup of coffee real justice
