Waffallonia

This place is a kiosk. It is not a restaurant. It has unreliable hours, and is closed even more randomly in the times when Pitt isn’t in class.

After a trip to the main library, I would often take my kids for a ride on the merry-​go-​round, followed up by a sweet treat here. This is like the end of a perfect go to Saturday for us. I love this place and honestly, they serve the best Belgian waffles I’ve had since I was last in Belgium! YuuM!

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I know this stand is exploiting my weak self-​control: waffle + ice cream + hot summer day = IMMEDIATE IMPULSE BUY. That really doesn’t make it any easier to resist though.
There’s not much to say in the way of service. The guy working the stand that day seemed pretty bored out of his mind, but he still did his job. Unfortunately, they ran out of milk, so my friend had to change his milkshake order.
The waffle & ice cream we each got essentially lived up to our expectations. Nothing terribly special, just two very sugary desserts combined into one very sugary dessert. It’s something you could probably make at home yourself very easily.
My favorite part was the nutella ice cream on mine, which they get from Dave & Andy’s just a few streets away. If anything, save yourself a few bucks and calories and head there for your sweet fix instead. :)

Sweet mother of all that is dessert-​y. I have to write this review even before finishing my waffle (topped with the irresistible Dave & Andy’s cinnamon ice cream). This is one of the best waffles I’ve ever eaten. Come here. Order a waffle. Melt into a puddle of happy.

Waffallonia is a small booth type of place that sells waffles with different toppings such as fruits, nutella, and ice cream. You can’t really go wrong with that!
Pros: We got the Charleroi and it came with nutella, strawberries, bananas, and ice cream! We chose the Speculoos ice cream and it was delicious. Obviously this is pretty much a combo that you can’t mess up, so of course it tasted good! The waffle was nice and warm.
Cons: I feel like it was kinda small for around $ 6 – 7? If it were $ 4 – 5 I wouldn’t be complaining, but for $ 6 – 7 I would expect something really really special. I would rate this place 3.5 stars, but I rounded down since the service wasn’t anything special either, not that friendly.
Overall: I’d come here to satisfy the occasional waffle craving if I lived in Pittsburgh!

A great great place to go for some delicious waffles! I walk here often and have ordered the Antwerp Waffle. The sugar waffles are also great! I usually get Antwerp (sugar waffle with ice cream and chocolate sauce) with sliced strawberries– its a good sweet combination of hot and cold. There usually is not a long line, unless its a very hot day; but it might take a while to get your waffle. There is only one person who takes your order and makes the waffles.

I’ve been here a few times and always love it! This afternoon my son and I shared a waffle with Nutella, bananas and strawberries. It’s just so good. I always get the same thing but next time I will definitely try the ice cream since there are so many flavors, including Nutella ice cream! This treat always reminds me of a crêpe but I think it’s even easier to eat. The waffle is crispy and sweet with the perfect ratio of Nutella so that it’s not drowning in it.
This location is so convenient in Oakland and perfect for a treat after a carousel ride.

I stopped by for a snack on a beautiful weekday afternoon. While there wasn’t much of a wait, the stand was definitely popular. I don’t think the worker said a word to me (except for the price), but he seemed pleasant.
When you order a waffle, he takes a ball of pre-​portioned dough and plops it into the waffle iron, which can hold about four at a time. The waffle is then placed in a cardboard box and topped. I got my waffle with speculoos spread.
The waffle was delicious: crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and warm. It tasted great by itself, but its holes were great for holding the speculoos, which tasted like liquid butter cookies and had the consistency of warm peanut butter. It wasn’t too sweet, either, and the amount didn’t overpower the waffle. A great treat for the middle of the day! Though the waffle is small, it’s thick. It’s a good portion size and fairly priced.

I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed the Oakland Waffalonia! I used to live nearby and made frequent 9pm trips here when a sweet tooth was talking to me.
This location is different than the Sq. Hill one. It’s located in Schenley Plaza and it’s just a waffle stand. it’s not indoors and doesnt offer seating (plenty of seating at the plaza though) The waffles here taste just as amazing as they do at the Sq. Hill location. Also, I’ve had some issues with the other location regarding the friendliness of the workers. The Oakland one is not as bad and actually has friendly workers! (insert raised fist emoji here)
Even though they did a great job at putting a menu together, I always just go with the unlimited waffle ($ 6+tax) I always order it with: Nutella spead on waffle, Specloos ice cream, strawberries, bananas & chocolate sauce (judge me)

I went here for the first time a few days ago and it was pretty good, but not heart stopping good. I like my food relatively pure so I got the basic sugar or liege waffle topped with whipped cream. Parts of the waffle were super-​duper sweet (like licking a cube of sugar covered in real maple syrup sweet). The sweetness don’t stop me, because the whipped cream helped balance it out. If you don’t mind paying $ 4 – 9 for a simple and relatively small waffle then give this place a try. The waffle iron could have used a good cleaning to avoid burnt sugar all over the waffle, but it was tasty enough. I recommend going here for a snack or with kids, but not as a meal option unless you want to buy 2 – 3 individual waffles per person. I plan to go to the original Squirrel Hill location, because I’ve been told that it is so much better.

I gave Waffalonia my heart the first time I saw the words «sugar waffle.» The deliciousness has fulfilled me and I don’t need it back.

Had the waffle with cinnamon ice cream. It was good, but not $ 6 good. It’s somewhat of a trap bc if you really want a waffle that’s the only option nearby.
If you really want a waffle and price is no option then this is the place to go.

Of course. nothing can beat waffles from Brussels (particularly from Maison Dandoy). But this version tasted super artificial. like waffles from a box.

The waffallonia is my favorite!

on my way from hillman library to cathedral of learning, I just couldn’t help stopping to buy a piece of waffle as a reward for a day’s hardworking.
I tried cream with fresh strawberries and tried ice cream with chocolate topping. The cold ice cream is a perfect match with the hot waffle. You should definitely choose this although the price is not low.
The good thing is you can use card here. And no need to worry about forgetting bringing some cash with you.

This place is a gold mine! It is exactly what the Pitt campus needed. The waffles taste superb. They are flaky, sweet, and have a nice subtle crisp on the outside. Trying to pick which kind of waffle is the tough part, I have been there 3 times and have gotten the ‘Bruges’ (Strawberries & Whipped Cream), ‘Namur’ (Bananas & Nutella), and ‘Ghent’ (Bananas & Speculoos spread*). *(For those of you wondering what speculoos spread is, it is a graham cracker based ‘nutella-​like’ spread… and it is phenomenal!)*. All three waffles were made perfectly, and all tasted devine. I highly recommend this place. I can’t wait to continue to tame my sweet tooth at this wonderful establishment. They are a bit pricy once you start adding a bunch of toppings, but it is absolutely worth is.

I had been hearing about Waffallonia from friends and acquaintances but Squirrel Hills is somewhat of a hike for me in my South Hills location so I was pleasantly surprised to see a stand in Schenley Plaza.
I ordered a waffle with speculous and vanilla ice cream — it was delish! It was HUGE, so huge that I had to throw ½ of it away which felt like a crime but I was seriously getting nauseous from the richness of it all.
This makes me want to throw caution to the wind and drive on over to Squirrel Hill! I highly recommend checking this place out if you have a sweet tooth.

A great sweet treat for a late night snack! The waffles are superb, and you can top it with chocolate, nutella, ice cream, fruit… whatever you want.

Wow — absolutely amazing waffles!
After happy hour tonight at The Porch, my husband convinced me to walk over to Waffallonia to give the place a try. The waffles were delicious… soft yet crispy on the exterior and perfectly sweet. They serve up their waffles with Dave & Andy’s ice cream. (Well, if you want ice cream… but who wouldn’t want ice cream?!) I had never tried Dave & Andy’s ice cream before, but after tasting the incredible cinnamon concoction tonight, it’s at the top of my must-​try places list. I also couldn’t resist a little nutella on top.
Even though the prices aren’t cheap (approximately $ 5 per waffle), it’s totally worth the cost. I actually appreciated the smaller portion size. You could literally make yourself sick off these waffles!
They offer plenty on the menu to keep you satisfied and trying something new every time… whipped cream, ice cream, chocolate syrup, strawberries, bananas, nutella, and speculoos. (If you’re a Trader Joe’s shopper, you probably know what speculoos is! It’s a magical peanut butter-​type spread made from graham crackers.) I’ll definitely be back soon!

The first thing that drew me to this place (besides the fact that waffles themselves are enough to bring a man to his knees) was the smell. The smell of fresh belgian waffles and ice cream hung in the air. My friend and I had been to the one in Squirrel Hill so we knew what we were in for. At first we doubted the quality of food that could be prepared in a space comparable to that of Harry’s cupboard but we were pleasantly surprised!
We had the waffle with speculoos and nutella ice cream. I must advise everyone to get speculoos on their waffle. Why? Because it melts (MELTS) on the warm waffle and becomes a kind of thick syrup and drips over the sides of your perfectly caramelized waffle. Keep in mind that they do run out of supplies if they get busy so get there before the herd.
