My husband used to go to the one on Lover’s lane and recommended this place, but since the Lover’s lane one closed, I never got to try it. We finally decided to drive up to Plano to try this place. I’m glad I did! The food was great! We ordered Ahi tuna burger, the Poke appetizer, and the coconut shrimp. Everything was great, but my favorite was the coconut shrimp. I don’t usually eat fried foods, but I was happy for this coconut shrimp. I think it was the one of the best coconut shrimp I’ve had so far. It had coconut flavor, and shrimp was big. Ahi tuna and poke were also great. Overall, good restaurant. I would love to visit again whenever I go to Plano.

I went with my boyfriend LJ, we met the manager, not owner. Ahi tuna was great. I had the coconut shrimp. I’m a huge lover of shrimp. Was a little over fried but good. It was warm inside, but overall it was a good experience. Great place for casual dining. Will visit again.

«Meet the city’s newest fish joint, Coconut’s Fish Café. Nestled in a quiet corner of Plano’s Preston Park Village, this fish hut is exactly what the neighborhood needed. Offering a quirky & unique interior, delicious Hawaiian-style fish tacos and numerous gluten free options it would be hard to find a reason not to stop in(the menu even has favorites for those non-fish lovers)! The star of the night is Coconut’s signature Fish Tacos; 2 tacos grilled with white corn tortillas and a variety of 17 different ingredients, including: cheese, tomato salsa, famous coleslaw, tomatoes and mango salsa. Fish taco? More like Fish Tostado, this bad boy was ginormous-a two hander for sure! My first impression(besides the obvious size) was the absence of an overly saturated dressing; Thank you Coconut’s! With 17 various ingredients these tacos are what dreams are made of. Natural, crisp, succulent, colorful, contrasting hot & cold, luscious and above all, fishy.» Read the full post on my blog, !

Service was impeccable and very friendly. We ordered the fish tacos and fish and chips. Love their selection of hot sauces, I could have smothered all of my food in their sweet and spicy house hot sauce. Will definitely be returning.

Very good. Cute atmosphere, we ate tacos and watched surfing. It’s very kid friendly, my normally non-fish-eater loved the kid’s fish and chips!

Meh. Frozen fish and shrimp. Not sure how it has 4 stars, my boyfriends says Fuzzys grilled fish tacos are way better.

Tried the Poke. Fish was cut incorrectly & according to my daughter it had too much flavor. Onion Rings made perfectly. Fish tacos had large chopped of pieces of cabbage which made it difficult to eat.

We were very pleased with the food. We had two salads: 1. Fish taco salad 2. Blackened mahi mahi cease salad Both were large portions of fish and very tasty. The food is ordered at a counter as you come in and then brought to your table. They have a very nice outdoor seating set up. Very clean. Strongly recommend the restaurant.

I went in so excited for some Poke! I haven’t had any since I left the islands and have been craving it. Idk what they do to their fish but it looks old and looks like it’s been frozen for an extended amount of time. Do not get raw fish at this place. This is not what poke is supposed to be like at all. It doesn’t look or taste even close to what it should be like. I was so upset that this restaurant, which by the way is located in Hawaii right where I used to live!, can’t even get plain poke right. Extremely disappointed. If you want real poke go to Market Street seafood section. Their poke is phenomenal! Tastes how it should!

I am not going to lie, I am biased because of TACOTUESDAY! The best deal of all for lunch! My co-worker and I try to stop by any Tuesday we’re free because they have buy one, get one taco platter for FREE! So for $ 10, we can get 4 tacos! We usually will share an order of steak taco and an order of fish tacos. The fish taco is okay, but I highly recommend the steak tacos! So delicious! The steak is perfectly seasoned and tender. The fish is a tad bland, but it’s okay because of the loads of toppings! The delicious cole slaw, the mango salsa, the pico, and layers of other flavors that I’m not sure I can name. Nonetheless, the entire taco is an explosion of flavor in your mouth and it is delightful! One of these days, I will return to try something else on the menu, but Taco Tuesday is just too good of a deal to turn down!

Wanted to try this place for a while. Went here specifically for a poké bowl, and was pleasantly surprised to see prices had gone down about a dollar on the menu since the new year. I my comes with brown rice, a coleslaw, topped with nori and sesame seeds and soy sauce on the side. It was good. It wasn’t great. Which was a disappointment for sure. I could tell the fish had previously been frozen with some of the pieces still very slightly icy on the inside. It was a larger portion than I had expected too, which was a plus. I didn’t hardly use the pickled ginger or wasabi cream that was on the side. I love poké but this one just didn’t do it for me unfortunately.

Wow! What an unexpected gem! Coconuts Fish Café offers some of the freshest fish you’ll find in the area especially at a fast-casual concept at such affordable prices. The food is absolutely delicious!!! It’s never frozen, Pacific line caught and flown in fresh in mere hours for the good folks of Plano, TX to enjoy. Seriously, it’s as good as seafood straight from a beachside restaurant. Some favorites are the Ahi Poke, Coconut Shrimp and, of course, the 17 ingredient fish tacos. You can’t get anything like them anywhere else so what are you waiting for?! With a super spacious interior and gorgeous patio, I don’t see how this place doesn’t put up a line every single day. They make all of their sauces, slaws, etc. in house and while there are some other locations in the U.S., this is the only one in Texas so let’s show our support for great, family friendly restaurants and head on over to Coconuts!

A true Hawaiian café in the midst of Dallas, Texas. Although I was actually looking for a poke bowl joint, this place did not disappoint. The only sad part is the poke bowl is not customizable — which is how it works in LA. The poke bowl is a layer of brown rice topped with coleslaw, ahi tuna and seaweed. Ginger, wasabi and soy sauce on the side. The coconut shrimp rocks! Absolutely delicious. Crispy and not over done. The tangy sauce was awesome! The service was phenomenal. I was glad to come in before the rush.

I came here last Saturday afternoon with my cousin and baby boy who is about 7 months. My son was crying and the gentlemen who worked in the front was very nice. I asked Him for hot water to warm my sons bottle . The customer service was phenomenal and the place is a very surf type Hawaiian looking atmosphere. My cousin and I split the order of fish and chips and I was very pleased. The fish was definitely fresh and well prepared. There was no preservatives or frozen feel to the food at all . I like the fact that you really get what you pay for. If I could recommend a good seafood fast food joint it would be this one !!! You will not regret, next time I’m in Plano this is a def must go to.

A taste of Maui in Plano. Good fish, the Ono was delicious, I had it in the fish and chips. Ahi poke appetizer was fresh and tasty. The fish tacos were also tasty and quite a large proton with a mix of Ono and mahi. The beer selection consists of three Kona brews and three local Texas brews on draft decently priced and of make for good pairings with the fish. Definitely will be coming back and bringing our Hawaiian friends.

Why would you come and not get fish? The only thing I have ever eaten is the fish tacos. Especially on on Taco Tuesday. They are colorful, filling, fresh and so TASTY! The staff has always been friendly and they do have beer and wine avail. If you have not been yet, what are you waiting for?

Maui fish tacos in Plano Texas? You Batcha. Let me say right up front this would’ve gotten five stars but while I was up getting napkins I had a half eaten plate that they tried to take away. Not only does this piss me off but being asked is probably the best. Everything you would expect in an island fish taco. Being as Maui is where my heart I found this place and I’m very sad to say I’m moving in less than a month and this would’ve been my new hang out. Check it out you won’t be disappointed. Two tacos, a beer and a tip $ 20

Delicious!!! We came here because the reviews were good and we are happy we tried them out. Definitely the best fish tacos around Plano and big portion sizes. The mix of mango, what ever sauce they put on the tacos and the fish mix really well. The Hawaiian theme is fun and the décor is really great. I highly recommend this place.

This place is a chain that originated in Hawaii. If you are looking for healthy and good fish, this place is pretty legit. Its very healthy with the choices that they have. A lot of salads and brown rice plates. You get a good amount of fish too. They have options for different ways to cook the fish as well. Flavor wise its pretty good too. We got the ahi tuna which was a good portion and alot of flavor. We also got 2 of the salads with fish. Whats really nice is that it actually comes with a couple of pieces of shrimp that are generous in size. We also got a rice plate which initially it looked small as it came on a smaller plate — the chicken. My mom thought the chicken was dry but why would you order that from a fish café?

Hands-down the best fish tacos I have ever had. I cannot be more frank or honest. The perfect blend and quantity of ingredients makes this place a safe haven for any fish or taco lovers. I have their fish tacos many times and not once have been anything but completely satisfied. In addition to all that about praise about their tacos, I have had the pleasure of enjoying their coconut shrimp, their amazingly crisp fish and chips, and their grilled mahi mahi salad. All in all, a wonderful place. I really hope more open up around the Dallas metroplex! ~I came, I saw, I ate~

Always a fantastic experience. FRESH, FLAVORFUL, and healthy! I’ve gotten the coconut shrimp appetizer(need to update with the real name, but it’s AWESOME), fried shrimp and chips, and fish tacos and everything is fantastic. Great fries too! Plus, with beers on tap and a nice patio + open bay doors, it’s a pleasant open and clean atmosphere. And with TVs around the restaurant(sound on mute) I was able to watch a few football games and converse with friends, which is always a plus. Whenever we come, it’s not very busy. Hope this place doesn’t go away, because it’s our go-to for a casual lunch or dinner. Also, the manager is a Horned Frog alumni, so I support it!

My husband & I stopped in for lunch and immediately felt the friendly, relaxing Aloha ambiance. Hawaiian themed décor & music along with open air seating set the tone. At the counter, we ordered the Ahi Poke appetizer to share & each had an order of fish tacos. Those 3 items plus 2 teas ran us $ 43. The Poke was delicious, very fresh & flavorful. The tacos with the blend of fish, mango & coleslaw were great as well. I can’t wait to come back & try other items. I would have given 5 stars based on quality of food, friendly service & great atmosphere, but had to deduct a star for pricing. Wish they were reasonable so I could justify making this a regular stop.

Without a doubt just as good as any fish tacos I’ve ever had! And that is saying a lot considering I lived in Florida for 11 years! Place is kept very clean and has wonderful Hawaiian themed décor! Oh yeah, Ahi Poke is MONEY! Very FRESH! Close your eyes and you would never know you’re in North Texas.

I’m not sure when this place opened but from my limited exposure to this part of town, it’s like it dropped right out of the sky one day. And to compare Coconuts to a gift from beyond the stars seems fairly appropriate, as telling others about my experience with this place would probably border on anyone claiming they were abducted by aliens: I saw things I had never seen before, experienced feelings I never knew existed and was in a place entirely new to me. That’s about where the similarities end with extraterrestrial encounters because I’m planning on coming back and sampling more of this tasty menu offered up by an attentive staff. Three of us had no idea what we wanted for dinner one Sunday evening and we ended up here on a recommendation. Let me tell you, not since someone suggested putting socks on before pants has an idea been better received. You walk into the corner property of a strip mall and an odd blending of an Islands, a cafeteria and maybe a Jamba Juice hits you. And these are all good things, mind you. The dining rooms are wide-open, leaving plenty of room for patrons to navigate to their surfboard table of choice. And the patio wrapping around the right wall looks really inviting. I believe the entire seating area is covered, so I could see it easily being a prime destination for a good meal or an even better drink. Orders are placed at the counter, and at first it looks like Coconuts has a limited menu. It’s not as diverse as other eateries but I’m willing to bet a lot of places do not put the same degree of craft into their dishes. The gal behind the counter was delightful, walking us through the menu, the side items, the four(!) kinds of iced tea and the beers. Outside of Roy’s up the Tollway, I’m not too familiar with places in the area that have Kona Longboard on tap, so this was a very welcome surprise! With beers and tea in hand, we headed over to a surfboard kind of halfway through the dining room. I don’t know if 6:00 p.m. is primetime here, or not, but the place got a huge surge of activity around that time, and we were glad we had our meals run over to us by a chipper food runner. We started with a small basket of fries, and, like Goldilocks and her misadventures, it was just right for the three of us. One of us did the Mahi Mahi on brown rice, the other the Macadamia-crusted Mahi Mahi on brown rice and I did the regular burger with all the trimmings. I think we polished off everything. Yes, I know: I was that token confused guy who went to a fish place and ordered a burger, but this burger was so good! Order it how it comes, even if it sounds like it would be a conflict of interest with the tartar sauce and slaw — it really is that good. The place is not lacking for business, and that’s a great thing. The only possible chink in the armor I thought might deter patrons is the price point. It’s not cheap, but it also won’t make your wallet cry out in pain. Just be prepared to drop a few more dollars than your average«order at the counter» establishment. But if you go with that mindset locked in place, along with an empty stomach, you’re in for a real treat. Coconuts is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, and one that easily warrants a visit.

I have got to agree with the 3 star reviews. Wanted to love it, but it wasn’t a great meal, and it is a bit on the pricy side. I had the blackened Ono on a bun with a side of «famous» coleslaw. Maybe it’s famously tasteless?!? Certainly it’s not famous for the taste. I skipped the fish tacos because I don’t like corn tortillas and there’s no flour option. The Ono sandwich was very good, the best part of the whole meal. Hubs got the fish and chips. The fries were mediocre and the fish seemed too dark and slightly overcooked. He said it was ok. If I do find myself here again, I’ll try the coconut shrimp that seems to be popular. With a side of rice maybe? On the plus side, the place is adorable and we found the service to be awesome, so I’ll bump a star.

Fish tacos are ahhh-mazing here! I think fellow Unilocalers would agree that the fish tacos are the best thing on the menu. The fish is so fresh and juicy and the mango salsa adds even more freshness and spunk to the dish. The slaw(coconut milk base) is delicious, although I wish they would shred it up a bit more. The grilled mahi-mahi is a great dish for those who want rice. For those who want variety, go with the fish and chips. They give you two types of fish, chips, and slaw. Portions are pretty big, but so are the prices.

Let me just say that I’m only giving this place 3 stars because the coconut shrimp tasted amazing. Paying 10 bucks for 6 medium sized shrimp was not. We went here the other day after my boyfriend remembered he had read about the opening. Be warned that Siri and the Maps feature on iPhones will tell you it’s on the opposite side of the shopping center near Williams Sonoma and it definitely is not. When we finally called them to ask where it was, I was so excited. 4.5 stars on Unilocal is a huge deal! But then we saw the menu. There was a very limited selection and the only way to get coconut shrimp was to pay for a 6 piece appetizer and then by a $ 7 basket of onion rings. $ 7. So for six shrimp, onion rings, and a drink it cost me 21 dollars. For the same taste, I can find something at a different restaurant in the area for $ 10 bucks. My boyfriend got a fish sandwich for 11 dollars that doesn’t come with a side. That’s extra. Not only are the prices outrageous, but when our food came my onion rings were nowhere in sight. I said to the runner«oh, and we’re waiting on onion rings.» And she instantly told me they obviously didn’t put them in because they weren’t on the ticket she was holding. She then said that I could get some, but id have to put in an order and asked if I wanted her to get some started for me. I said no. Looks like I was going to get a drink and a handful of shrimp for twenty bucks and just to deal with it. When I went inside to look for cocktail sauce(not provided unless paid for), I saw the waitress checking the system at the register for our order. Five minutes later an older man came out with the darkest fries onion rings I’ve ever seen. He didn’t apologize or anything. Just said«onion rings» and left. I noticed he passed by with onion rings later and went back inside looking confused, only to be followed by sighs from the people next to us that had obviously just seen their order get taken away. Although the shrimp were good, I can’t justify ever coming here again. Not because the girl was rude about my missing order, but because paying that much money for food I can get elsewhere for half the cost seems ridiculous. They need a better menu with more affordable prices. I understand they are in the wealthier part of plano, and the place was packed, but having to pay that much money for such a small amount of food isn’t feasible to the average customer.

Coconuts Fish Café in Plano is Maui’s latest import of Hawaiian seafood for Texas. Similar to the Lovers Ln. location, expect awesome coconut shrimp, fresh fish, and a fantastic Hawaiian atmosphere. Dare I saw it’s as good as the original in Maui? Read on dear Unilocalers. My Overall Rating — 5 Stars(Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere — It’s new, large, has great Hawaiian décor, and is climate controlled! Trust me, it’ll be worth it in the Texas summer. The Plano location has a more creative design than the Dallas location. But the best part is the addition of outdoor seating. Also, the side windows seemed to be built to open up(like a garage), giving it an open air feel. You’ll see surfboard shaped tables & benches, mellow Hawaiian music, and surfing videos. It’s Maui in a box. 1 Star. Service — Even though it is counter service the staff is fantastic. They are friendly and are happy to explain the menu. Take the time to read through it. It’s not just seafood, it is Hawaiian seafood. Order, grab a beer/drink, get a number, and grab a table. You’ll get a surfboard buzzer to let you know when things are ready. They’ll also bring out dishes & clear tables. They’re great! 1 Star. Food — If you only come here once, order the coconut shrimp & fish tacos. The shrimp are expertly fried but amazingly not greasy. The fried coconut adds crunch and a bit of sweetness, and even if you don’t like coconut texture(I don’t), it’s great. The fish tacos are a thing of beauty. You’ll get two tacos piled with fresh, grilled fish, slaw, and mango. The mango is like magic and it brings the other taco parts together. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the tuna poke. The well marinated and seasoned tuna is a perfectly healthy starter. Want more fish? Go for the grilled ono or ahi. These fish are flown in fresh and are cut like steaks. But their soft, tender on the inside and you can just feel the Hawaiian waves. Blacken them for extra flavor. Add wasabi for a kick. No matter what you’ll be getting quality seafood. 2 Stars. Will I Return? — Yes, in fact I may go here instead of the Lovers location. Both continue the theme of fantastic Hawaiian fare, but the Plano location wins due to a more well-designed space and atmosphere. Thank you Coconuts for expanding into Texas! 1 Star. My Unilocal Rating Scale(Sum of all parts): 1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars — Food — I’ll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the food. 1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food(2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Unilocal score.
