I was in need of a massage and looked around for somewhere close. I saw a couple of good ratings on Unilocal for Cozy Massage so thought I’d give them a try. This is a nondescript looking business in a nondescript strip mall close to where Austin Avenue was/will be. If you don’t know it’s there, you’d never find it, probably. I called for an appointment and was there 20 minutes later. You walk in to a plain reception area with a desk and was a little confused at first. I had to pay up front for the massage, which is a bit awkward because I didn’t have cash and was wanting to put the tip on the card. I just decided to add the tip anyway and worry about if it’ll be any good or not. I had no need to worry. I was introduced to my masseuse. For anyone who knows me, I’m not exactly a small guy. I was wondering how she’s even going to make a dent in my body. Again, I had no need to worry. Now, this bit is the worrying bit for me. There was no initial consultation. I was left in the room to get undressed then she just started working on me. It was at that point when I explained what I wanted doing and then let her know of any parts to avoid. Not wanting to get anyone into trouble, but it’s actually a state licencing requirement to have a signed initial consultation form on file. I will make sure this is done next time. The massage room itself was basic but comfortable, the temperature maybe a degree or two on the cooler side but I was mostly covered so it didn’t bother me too much. There was a point when the massage therapist left me and I wondered what was going on. I even checked the clock that was ticking away in the background of the music to make sure my time wasn’t up. She returned with hot towels to remove the oils before I turned over. Nice touch, wish I’d know she was leaving and returning tho. The massage itself hit all the right spots. I was worries she wouldn’t be able to dig deep but she found muscles that I didn’t even know where hurting. Usually I have $ 60 as my upper limit for a 1 hour massage, but it seems like $ 65 – 70 is more the norm these days. I didn’t mind $ 65 since it was so close. Overall, despite the lack of initial consultation and my therapist disappearing(to get the towels), and paying up front for the massage, my experience was positive. I’ll see how I feel in a day or two and may well make this a regular occurrence. I’d like to give 5 but I have to knock a few off for the obvious reasons.
