Specialties

Fusion Academy is a revolutionary private middle & high school where positive relationships unlock academic potential. All courses are one-to-one: one student & one teacher per classroom. This allows teachers to personalize curriculum and teaching for each student’s individual strengths, interests, and learning style.

Our supportive campus environment includes a state-of-the-art recording studio, mixed-media art studio, and a Homework Café® where students complete all homework before going home. Schedules are customized for students to enroll at any time and take classes at a time of day that works best for them. From algebra to yoga and everything in between, we have classes available at essential, college prep, and honors levels to meet your student’s academic goals, whatever they may be.

Along with personalized curriculum, Fusion’s one-to-one teaching model also allows for the customization of scheduling. Students may enroll at any time of the year, and take classes at a time of day that works best for them, which appeals to students who have demanding schedules outside of school because of sports or artistic involvement.

While it’s impossible to put our students into categories, we generally serve students with the following backgrounds: ADHD, accelerated/gifted learners, dyslexia, mild learning differences, social challenges, school anxiety, or students with challenging schedules. Students who attend Fusion have one thing in common: traditional school isn’t working.

History

Established in 1989.

Fusion was born out of frustration with the status quo, and out of a passionate belief in the power of positive relationships to unlock academic potential.

In 1989, Michelle Rose Gilman, an innovative educator focused on special education, was ready to change the world. But as she entered understaffed, underfunded and uninspiring classrooms, she realized that the potential of the students she had been trained to teach wasn’t being actualized.

Beginning as a one-to-one tutor/mentor, Michelle worked with students to enhance their overall wellbeing and to open new pathways to learning. But as her team grew, she realized tutoring wasn’t enough — some of her students still weren’t flourishing when they returned to their full-time schools. So, Fusion became a full time school.

In 2010, Fusion Academy opened its first replication in Los Angeles, CA. Today, there are over 30 campuses across the country: CA, CT, DC, IL, NJ, NY, TX, and VA.
