I got a very nice sounding violin rental for my daughter at s good price. I was able to reserve an instrument online and have it delivered to the school.

We had looked for a long time to to find an actual builder and master luthier of violins for my daughter. She is 12 years old, and attends The Lovejoy ISD School District in Fairview, Texas. Here is the link to the Orchestra Department:

Dallas Strings
We have looked for several years around Dallas for good high quality stringed instruments only to come up empty handed. We ended up choosing Dallas Strings in the beginning because they were close and the ISD department recommended them. There was really no choice out there we could find at the time. The staff was nice and a couple of the teachers are good. However the rental instruments well, were really just beginner ones, and of lesser quality. They are harder to play and the sounds are dull. The main brand there is Eastman. This I guess is typical of rental instruments, come to find out. They do have a good music selection targeted towards the students and lessons being taught there.

So we kept looking around Dallas. We dug deep, and asked professionals in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Finally the answer, the Kelin Violin Shop in Plano, Texas was recommended to us.

Our search was over. The Kelin Violin Shop is absolutely amazing!!! The staff is courteous and very helpful. Kelin is a master luthier that actually builds custom handmade violins and orchestra instruments! I didn’t even know that type of skill set still existed out side of Italy, let alone in Plano Texas!
There is a huge 2000 sq ft. facility packed with custom handmade violins. There are many rooms and levels of instruments of all kinds. In addition we found a new teacher who plays in the Symphony from there! To top it off there is a beautiful 7000 square foot facility next door tailored to Performing and Fine Arts. Inside hosts a private school and after school programs just for Music, Theatre, Dance and the Technical Arts. Also tucked inside is a 2000 square Foot recital hall, with several Steinway pianos. Needless to say we switched from Dallas Strings, and will never leave from Kelin’s Violin Shop. If they are good enough for the Dallas Symphony and Itzhak Perlman, it’s good enough for me and my daughter.

Kelin is a master at making stringed instruments, but only buy from him if you are willing to buy an instrument for 2,000−3,000 dollars. Each violin, viola, cello, and bass is made with the utmost care and Kelin’s expert hand. I wouldn’t recommend this shop for a beginning musician looking to rent an instrument and buy it later. I rented my violin from him for a little more than 4 years and ended up paying more than the cost of the instrument itself; however, only 80 percent of the rental fee goes towards purchasing the instrument, so I still ended up shelling out an additional 500 dollars when I wanted to actually buy the violin.
