They earn five stars from me because they had Blanton’s boubon when half a dozen other stores were sold out! Totally made my day and the staff was really nice when I called and even put aside a bottle for me so I knew it would be there. It’s a really small store, but somehow has a better selection than some of the largest stores. Definitely not a place I would have stopped on my own as it looks kind of rundown on the outside, but inside it’s clean, organized, and has great prices!

A little pricey but coming from dry McKinney I’m not going to complain too much. Stocking up next time I come. Decent selection of liquor. It was organized by vodka, cognac, and so on. Positive review for my first visit in Texas.

This is our regular, friendly neighborhood wine & NOW liquor store. Love the staff! When I was looking for something specific that they didn’t have, they offered to put it on their order list for that week. The next time I came in, VIOLA!, it was there.
Also, it’s in a great location off the highway if you’re heading south off 75 or west down Spring Creek Pkwy — but not so much coming from any other direction. That’s just because of traffic flow at the highway sucking. There are times that I’ll go elsewhere if it’s not en route. Sorry!
Prices are fine w/​me (being that Plano just passed liquor sales, I haven’t taken any hard core notes). Nothing was noticeably over priced.

They have Liquor in Plano! Yes!
It was a bit pricey, but its down the street from my apartment. I will say that Goody Goody in The Colony is priced better. S&K has great selections, so it doesn’t hurt to check it out.

We recently ordered a keg from S & K and received terribly rude customer service. The first plastic tap that came with the keg didn’t work properly, so we went back to S&K and got another plastic tap. After the second tap didn’t work we called to see if they had any suggestions or other taps they could give us. I spoke to the manager who was extremely rude and treated me like I was too stupid to work a keg. He constantly interrupted me and even cursed at me. There are too many places in Plano to buy a keg, do not waste your time or money at S & K.

Caution: S & K Beverage just started carrying liquor. However, they are charging significantly more than the other liquor stores that just opened in Plano, and are only a few miles away from this store. For example, they were charging $ 39.95 for 750ml of Milagro Reposado Tequila, when you can find it for $ 31.95 at the other stores 5 minutes away. That’s a 25% markup!

Great wine and beer selection. Beware the store clerk who follows you around recommending more expensive stuff, however. Hey buddy, I know what I like, that’s what I’m here for. Back off. Thanks.

Great selection and verrry fair pricing. Nice guy from Thailand (?) runs the place and always looks out for me — I am cheap. I walk in and he looks over at me and shakes his head and says «Hey Loser! Look over here… a case of Bittburger Oktoberfoiest for under $ 20 dollars. You buy last 5 cases, I will take another dollar off!» Cha-​CHING! I said ching. GREAT place with friendly help and great prices — a real asset to Plano.

Visiting in laws in TX and def need a drink afterwards (in laws…). I told the fiancé — I need wine. Bad.
Passed this place and omg… MECCA OF ALCOHOL… Actually beer and wine… But omg… So many choices… And the prices were actually really good! I’m from LA… And in LA that stuff is expensive! But here… Is everything cheaper in Texas?! Gas. Food. ALCOHOL?!
Service: great service. They asked if I needed help as I roamed the aisles. I need my wine… And Eureka! I described my flavors I love and he picked out the perfect wine. Awww yeah!
Selection: too many… They bring BevMo to shame… Win.

Pretty good selection of beer and wine, but no liquor. They definitely offer just about everything!

The first time I went in there it was because I heard they carried Abita Root Beer by the case (which Whole Foods here does not). They do, indeed. As I was checking out, the guy at the counter mentioned I should try St. Arnold’s root beer. I was like, «Wait. You have it? I didn’t see it in the case.» Sure enough, they had it hidden in the back. SCORE!
My second visit was for more root beer and a 6 of Shiner Ruby Redbird. Again, I didn’t see the Ruby Redbird, so I inquired. Again, it was hidden in the back. Yes!
Both times I purchased 4 6-​packs. so one of the nice guys inside carried it out to my car for me.
Lesson of this review is that if you’re looking for it, S&K probably has it, and if you don’t see it, just ask; They probably have it!

S&K has a great selection of beer. The store itself feels a little dirty and cramped, but you can’t argue with the variety of craft brews and imports. The shopping experience is better at Mr. G’s, Kegs & Barrels, and Beverage Zone, but if you just want to pick up a 4-​pack of Double Dog after a rough day in the cube, S&K has got you covered.

5 Stars for selection of great imported beers. I didn’t really check out the wine. The people that work here seem cool, they were doing a tasting of sorts when I walked in. They have alot of other random stuff in the store I believe.

I considered my 18^th birthday to be a major life event. The draft had ended but the Vietnam War was still raging and, at 18, we were still required by law to obtain a draft card. At age 18 I could also legally buy land, vote and generally transact business on my own. Turning 18 was a big deal.
Nearly as important were the laws setting the age for alcohol consumption. My home state of Iowa allowed us to drink at age 18, which seemed plenty old to me, even though other states set the drinking age at 21. And other countries had even lower age limits, letting me get punch-​drunk in their country at, say, age 16.
A brief story. During the summer after I turned 18, my Dad and I took a vacation to Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park. We camped all week, cooking our own food and drinking beers under the evening blanket of stars. Mid-​week we ran out of food and drink so we drove down Big Thompson Canyon to a nearby store for staples. After we checked out, Dad grabbed the groceries while I toted the beer. The check-​out clerk stopped us, «Excuse me, young man, but you must be 21 to carry that beer out of the store.» So I gladly handed over the heavier larder. «Here you go, Dad!» We proceeded back up the canyon to finish our camping experience. So much for the differences in state-​mandated liquor laws.
When I was a few years older and newly married, I moved to Plano to start that equity-​building family life venture thing that people sometimes do in their 20’s. When our booze stock got low I drove to a nearby store for replenishment, only to learn that, no way, Plano-​ians must travel to another municipality to buy alcohol. Yes, those damned blue laws were keeping dear the last vestiges of Prohibition. So, in addition to politicians playing with my liberties at national and state levels, municipalities can put their hands there, too. On my way to Addison I said a prayer over the soul of Patrick Henry.
So every few weeks young Citizen Grumpy would dutifully commute from Plano to The Colony or Addison to buy booze. Yes, beer and wine were available in nearby stores, but the better ones were down in Big D and none in Plano could sell that evil drink of the distilled variety.
I’m speculating that S&K Beverage was successful because they capitalized on these dumb laws. S&K offers a vast quantity of all types of beer and wine at bargain prices, a palatable combination for the Grumpster. Throw in a big cigar humidor with the same rules and I’m in vice heaven.
In recent years our household honed our tastes to a more diverse selection of wines and beers, and S&K carries most all of our favorites. There’s such price competition for domestic beers that I’m guessing stores have minimal margin for discounts, but microbrews and non-​domestics are a different story. Wines are plentiful in our home, and we try to stock several varieties at a spectrum of price points. S&K helps us here, too. While S&K isn’t the cheapest in town for any specific wine choice, I find them consistently lower across the board than most competitors (Siegels, Goody Goody, Centennial), and much cheaper than many corner specialty places (e.g. Pogos and CBS). As for cigars, S&K again comes in strong with our house favorites and has 2-​for-​1 deals on several selections. I am always happy with S&K’s freshness in both cigars and beverages probably because they turn inventory so quickly.
When I went to S&K for the first time several years ago, the guy in charge greeted me at the door, «Hey boss!» Grumpy likes a place that lets the customer be the boss. Even though I now live in Dallas and visit them infrequently the staff is still just as friendly as in years past. During my last stop at S&K I learned that the guy who called me «Boss» is gone; however, they still work under the same customer-​first principle. This guy is also a fairly big car freak, in case you care to chat with him about your ride.
It’s the 21^st century and Plano is still alcohol-​stupid. (Dallas is not exactly a clear winner either when it comes to planning and zoning.) However, maybe we can craft a silver lining in this legislative mess if places like S&K Beverage succeed by providing good prices and a great selection.
I moved away from Plano and into Dallas a few years ago for several reasons, and one big reason was so that I could live and pay taxes in an area that won’t make you commute to buy your booze. Now I commute occasionally to S&K to buy beer and wine. Go figure.

I’ve known the owner of S&K for years. He’s a fellow car enthusiast like me– he prefers JDM stuff while I’ve sort of liked everything, mostly German. They moved their store to the new building that’s right off of 75 about a month ago and the new shop is a little larger. As before, the beer and wine selection continues to be much above par, and if something is available, it can be ordered for you. Their selection is always fresh and he usually has something there to sample. Also, Chuck keeps a very good selection of sakes. Popular websites such as Beer Advocate have recognized Chuck’s store for its service and selection too.
The man from India was never the owner– he worked for the former and current owner and went his own way a year or so ago. Nowadays, the owner, Chuck, is usually there. This is a family-​owned store and one of the places we should buy our beer and wine.
