I am as white and American as it gets, but I love Indian food. I have been going about once a week to eat Indian near my office in Plano for the last 5 years or so. I have been eating at Viceroy since I tried it shortly after it opened and haven’t been to another Indian restaurant since. Now, why I like this place is not superficial(like some of these one-star reviews, my goodness those are a crime)… They spent money and thought on the restaurant. Nice, new, clean and big! Real humans actually sat in the tables and chairs before they were purchased(no sagging to the floor in old booths or counter-high tables that make you feel like a midget… I hate that!). They cook the right way, for example… the Chicken Tikka, which most Americans go for first since that is all they know, is done by cooking seasoned chicken first, then pulling apart and adding to simmer in the sauce. Lesser restaurants cut up unseasoned chicken breast and dump it in to the simmer sauce raw, missing out on serious flavor. Other favorites they do right: idli, veg korma, all chutneys, and the fried starters like veg pakora and fritters… yum!!! Soda is complimentary with the lunch buffet… bonus! The naan is always in supply when I go, no shortages on this staple. Crisp, fresh vegetables/salad is a nice bonus. As for the service, I have never received anything but smiles and prompt replies to requests and even the absolute best efforts at English, communicating with no problems at all. One suggestion would be for management to add more translations and descriptions and spice levels(low-medium-high) to the buffet/menu descriptions. That would be super helpful, but as I have been going a lot to Indian over the years, I’ve learned what the various dishes are. Plus, it’s authentic that way and I like a little adventure but perhaps not for everyone. :D

Called twice and got ignored and hung up on. I wonder what their service in person must be like…

Went for weekend lunch buffet. Stale, dried food. None of the items look appetizing. Will not return here again.

We stumbled upon this nice restaurant after tree shopping at home depot next door! We had the butter chicken and one of the dal dishes(lentil) with rice and really enjoyed it. Even had some left over ;)

Pretty decent food choices to cater vegetarian and non vegetarian with a north and South Indian mix. Three desert choices and fountain soda also included for 10.99 buffet on a weekday. Place is clean and well serviced with quick table clean up. Buffet refill is slightly slow. But you need to take at least half an hour out to try every thing. Would go back again once in a while for work lunches. Verbal assurance from staff that halal meat is used. There is no beef dish. Fish fry and chicken tikka tandoori were done very well. Vegetable curries and daal was also properly cooked. Goat curry needs a little less spice.

Buffet only offered at dinner tonight. Food was good and much to choose from. Soft drinks included. Service seemed good and cordial. I liked it and would go back.

We went there after getting amazing reviews from friends and listening the ads on radio… And I may be the first person not to leave a positive feedback. We went for Diwali lunch. And being a festival day can only go for veg options. So all the comments are only based on ‘lunch buffet on a weekday(so no 35 items) and only Veg.’ I did try most of the veg options in moderation :) Overall Feedback: Average to Below-Average Good points: Naan, idli, chutneys, salad, mushroom mutter, jeera rice and water. Curry Variety: Very Limited. Mushroom matar, daal, Alloo Chana and Saag Paneer… Alloo Chana was too salty and saag paneer was flavorless with negligible amount of paneer, daal was average taste. Only saving grace was mushroom which was good. Veg Briyani was just veggies mixed with rice. Most of the restaurants can’t cook good biryani anyways. I have a sweet tooth and I normally start the meal with sweets. I am not a fan of custard as normally everyone use mango pulp that make it horrible so I did not try it. I did try a gulab Jamun, which gave a taste of GITS gulab jamun and kheer(sewain) was too sweet even for my sweet tooth :) So overall below-average(average if stretched.) experience and flavor. Icing on the cake. Comment from manager/cashier. «I know you guys didn’t like the food but most of the people who come here like it. So sorry. « Will I go there again. ‘Only if someone pay the bill’. Will I recommend it. Most likely NO.

I got overcharged. Owner charged me for my 3 yeras old kid half price. usually they charge from 4 to 9 half price. I will never go there. Attitude was not good at all.

Pros Food taste is good Free soda In a good locality with enough parking. Cons Less staff. Same person serves water, takes away plates, attends phone call, runs bill etc. The result is, we have to wait to get seated, get water and even pay. Less baby high chairs. We were told they have only 5 high chairs and all of them were taken. The only option we were provided was to use the stroller. If you are a parent with an infant you will understand the difference and the pain Bad attitude from the manager/owner. If you request him to change water glass or clean the table he doesn’t respond. He walks away as if he hasn’t heared what your said. There can be someone who prefers good food than good service. This restaurant is for them

Awesome and authentic Indian food. We have done the buffet a few times and it has always been consistently good. I have also tried them for dinner with the a-la-carte menu and the chicken and mutton dishes were good. Great chicken tikka masala and excellent naan’s. Definitely recommend it!

Got a HAIR in my mutton curry. When I showed it to the manager he said it came from outside. And SCOWLED at me as if I am responsible. Had gone there with a friend during lunch. Both of us realized the blunder. Never to a joint again where there is a colonial hangover. Be it the name or service.

Had been here for lunch buffet on a weekend. The food was quite bland and tasteless. The service was very slow. At any point of time when we went back for more, some of the trays were empty. It was moderately crowded but they didn’t seem ready for these many people. As the crowd increased, the sambar dal and sabzis seemed to become thinner and colder. We had to wait over 20 minutes to get our final bill. When the bill still didn’t arrive, we decided to pay it at the counter itself. But the owner /manager didn’t even seem to like that. His attitude was quite rude. I would not recommend this place especially considering that there are many other indian restaurants in the area.

This place is a disaster. No concept of service. There is no host and owner does not care to seat people or has open seating. Guy is so rude. He is a runaway from Irving. They closed their dump there and are here in plano now. Quite a bad experience.

This place is the definition of average. Their ambience is average, their service is average, their food is average and so is everything else about this place. A complete disappointment but luckily there are other good places to eat in the area.

Nothing to be excited about, with a name like Viceroy food is sub par. Service is sub par as well, went for Sunday buffet they could not keep the pans full. Also, how could you have an indian buffet without gulab jamun? Not to mention food didn’t contain as many flavors as their competitors. Food was lukewarm little scared hopefully we don’t get sick.

I would give 0 stars if I could! Went on a Saturday night. Nice cool new restaurant looks clean. Manager and his staff couldn’t care less for their customers. Ordered food out of the menu waited half hour only to hear back from them that one of the dishes was not available. When asked how long it would take for the rest of the food to be served, they say 15 more mins. I would not go there ever hopefully not considering the restaurant choices in the area. Biriyani pot, Bawarchi, Baserra far better than these people.

Absolutely the best fish fry that I have had in an Indian restaurant in the US. Excellent selection of non-veg items during the weekly buffet. Very soft idles, and nice selection of veg dishes. Highly recommend you try the food here.
