Heather k you sound like a bitch! Oh my god what is your problem! This building is fine and all of the appliances are good. What did you do to the garbage disposal? You must of put something down there that clogged it.
Nancy isn’t that bad, she enforces the rules and maintains the buildings well. I used to be a Hoa president and I know how hard it is to manage a building. It’s simple, don’t be an asshole heather then you won’t have any problems! You were probably the a hole underneath my unit that kept slamming doors! If you were that person you are a dick. But you seem like an attention staved c$nt anyways.

I am writing an update about my move out experience and 3 years living at Del Rey Club. Once again, because Nancy and I had a pretty big misunderstanding in my first year, I think my experience in particular might explain the «truth» in some of the negative reviews and also how some could possibly be a little overkill.
One of the reasons I moved into Del Rey Club was because during my apartment tour, I noticed Nancy smiling and greeting a few residents by name along the way. She seemed to know about them and their families on a personal level. The interaction seemed genuine and sincere. Some of my neighbors are in their 40s and 50s and have been there for years without trouble, but are probably less inclined to post online reviews like the younger individuals who may be experiencing the supposed «rudeness.» Del Rey Club isn’t really a college-​central kind of complex. It hosts lots of middle-​aged working professionals, so if you don’t really «fit» into that, or can’t live peacefully in that type of environment, you might want to look into living elsewhere. Maybe this was what one reviewer referred to when she said she felt judged.
My move out went super smooth. I opted for the in-​building cleaning service since the price was pretty standard and comparable to various cleaning company quotes. It was the easiest, smoothest move out I’ve ever experienced and I got my deposit back quickly.
I can see someone describing Nancy as «strict» or «stern» as she was with me after my misunderstanding with her, but anything over that might possibly be exaggeration. This might explain some of the unflattering impressions of Nancy other reviewers have posted. If you mind your own business, and are respectful towards the staff and your neighbors, then I cannot imagine having the kind of problems with Nancy described in some of these reviews, unless you are purposely break the rules repeatedly. After Nancy had caught me in the act of breaking lease rules during my first year, she certainly informed me very sternly of what the consequences would be, but once I cleared things up with her, she resumed being cordial and professional as always.
Why 5 stars? Well, I feel inclined to balance out some of these negative reviews. Where else can you find clean, quiet units in the awesome Playa del Rey area with in-​unit washers and dryers for this price?

I would be cautious of any 4 – 5 star reviews on this place that they are not placed in here fraudulently. The grey haired old lady apartment manager that works here is rude, disrespectful, and hates ANYONE that comes to visit. Just confirmed her name is Nancy Littell. She barks at everyone that try’s to visit and does everything she can to be difficult. The best thing this place could do is fire her! You WILL be miserable living there so don’t bother. The worst apartment manager, cranky, crabby, just a B&$(H!!! She will make your life and anyone that try’s to visit you a nightmare. It doesn’t even deserve 1 star! DO NOT MOVE HERE

I went in about 3 weeks ago to possibly look at some apartments. The lady in the front office who did not look busy at all totally looked me up and down and told me to make an appointment. I felt like she was judging me by my appearance. I told her I don’t live around the area and her attitude was awful.

I took the time to visit the leasing office a few years ago and found the woman running the office to be very rude. Recently, I noticed an apartment for rent and was considering it, thinking maybe someone was having a bad day when I previously visited, however, after reading these reviews it seems that the management is what it is. Sadly, I will not be applying to Del Rey Club.

If you expect basic duties performed of a landlord per their 30 page lease and rules beware you are signing a deal with the devil. Everything others have posted about issues with Nancy and building I can verify as true with documentation and photos. I wish I had read Unilocal before I moved in. I understand Nancy intimidates and tries to get people to remove these postings from Unilocal,I will not.
If you’re seeking a healthy building or SMOKE FREE building SKIP THIS ONE. After a very expensive application fee they make you sign a lease a 30 page lease that says «no smoking in unit or balcony», BUT do you get a smoke free building? NO. Is the lease enforced? NO. The landlord allows smoking of all kinds. When myself and several surrounding neighbors complained about the daily smoking of patchouli incense and cigarettes by unit #117 Nancy lied to me and said there were not complaints by ANY other people and then was completely unresponsive for months and to this day still claims it’s coming from the sidewalk. Really? Does it make sense someone is burning incense on the side walk every night all night around the same time tenant #117 gets home? Nancy herself is a smoker or now claims to be ex-​smoker but tenants have witnessed her on the premises next to the leasing office, smoking. If a tenant had a dog, which is a violation of the lease as is smoking, Nancy would do everything in her administrative power to evict, but Nancy discriminates which lease rules she wants to enforce or not if she decides she likes you or not. She’s not going to like you if you ask her to do her job.
The building’s exclusive contracts with internet providers is the worst. It’s wide open for anyone to use as much bandwidth as they want whenever they want so you’re paying for a service you will most likely not be getting most evenings. The speed is hit and miss if your neighbor is uploading/​downloading what they have told me «large files to-​from the movie studio». They won’t tell you this before you sign the lease IF HAVING INTERNET IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, SKIP THIS BUILDING. On more than one occasion it’s stopped working entirely for days. They may tell you things like cable has been pulled so tenants will have options and just waiting for it to go live, but they’ve been saying that for over a year so don’t hold your breath.
We were told it was a newer building, (6 years) and while it appeared modern and new from a quick look at the place, after moving it you will discover it’s made with the cheapest of new products that break and fall apart all the time. The cabinets are installed poorly with hinges falling out of the cheap particle wood with normal use of opening/​closing. That’s because it’s the cheapest Closet Maid laundry room cabinets installed throughout the kitchen & bathrooms not meant for daily use. The laminate flooring is cheap, dents/​cracks easily as it’s poorly installed. The washing machine agitator broke 3 days after I moved in but Nancy immediate blamed me saying what did you do? In 6 months the dishwasher has broken 4 different times each time a different part breaking. The blinds get easily twisted and will break and fall off with normal open/​close use. If you plug something into the socket next to the oven, the oven power goes out and must be reset. This same power goes out if someone walks by with radio (i.e. building staff) in the hallway. The kitchen sink backs up out of nowhere with brown water. This happened when I wasn’t home. When I called for emergency help Nancy was rude and refused at first to send someone to fix this (likely retaliatory because she didn’t like me because of my complaints about the smoking tenant) and told me I would need to wait until the next day. She then called back and agreed to send help but by then the sinks had overflowed all over the cheap laminate flooring. The handyman who came to fix it said Nancy knows this a common occurrence as it happens in the buildings 3 – 4 times a month and it was the handyman who insisted he should come immediately to fix it.
On top of that just going about your normal daily things like driving a car into the parking garage is met with misery. Nancy glared and then chased and screamed at me when driving my friend’s car into the garage. She didn’t like that it was a Porsche being driven by a Hispanic man with me in the passenger seat opening the gate with my clicker. She was very rude to us both. She claims she was screaming because she didn’t recognize the car but really, she was being racist about a large Hispanic man with tattoos diving a Porsche. She did not apologize to the driver

I’ve lived here for over four years.
This is a great place to live. I’ve never felt otherwise, during my time renting a 1 bedroom apartment here.
The complex and buildings are new, well-​constructed and maintained professionally on a regular basis. It is a gated community, and has no-​trespessing, with cameras for security. The apartments have alarms, high ceilings and balconies.
Everything works. If anything is an issue, it is resolved.
The Manager, Nancy, is fantastic.
The location lends to several other factors that are a huge plus: ocean air quality, healthier than the rest of LA. Albeit, it is still a relatively central area with easy access to the commonly traversed highways in LA.
The grounds are kept pristine, it’s quiet, and the neighbors are respectful. The buildings are equipped with amenities, such as central air conditioning and heat, washer/​dryer in unit, dishwasher, and closed protected parking.

I lived at del rey club («DRC») for 4 years and 2 months. I recently moved out, so this review is written objectively, without bias.
The entire time i have lived at DRC, I was met with nothing short of professional and warm demeanor. As with any managed property, there are rules and they are enforced. If you enjoy partying into wee hours of the night, trashing your place of residence, or tolerate unkempt common areas in general, you will not like living at DRC. If you, like most people who pay to live in a decent area, enjoy living at a quiet, clean, and well-​kept property, you will appreciate that your property manager is serious about doing her job and doing it well. I’ve lived all over CA, in different states, and in different countries for jobs and schools. During the course of my moving around, I have encountered many types of property managers. Nancy, the Del Rey Club property manager, manages DRC better than any other manager I’ve had experience with. She is on top of things and from what I have seen, treats everyone with equal courtesy. I thought i’d share my opinion and experience regarding a few hot topics:
No weekend move policy: I’ve read many complaints about the no weekend move policy. It’s conspicuously shown in your lease. If you don’t like the terms, as with any contract, you negotiate it out or decline to sign it. I don’t understand people who readily sign the leases, violate the terms, than complain later on about how unfair and unreasonable it is that the terms were enforced. What would be the point of a contract if nobody was going to enforce it? As a resident, I was GLAD for this rule. It’s simple: do i like having to deal ingress/​egress (elevators, stairs, hallways) compromised with stuff and movers on the two days of the week i’m supposed to get peace and relaxation at home? Of course not. Take a day off during the week to take care of your business instead of inconveniencing entire building of neighbors. We all did.
Maintenance: Frank and Mike are exceptional. Every time i’ve had maintenance requests (all normal things that arise from human beings occupying any space), these guys have been there within one business day, at most, to not only inspect, but to completely remedy the situation. Most requests were completed within an hour in my experience. They are also proactive regarding potential issues that may arise. For example, the water heaters were starting to get older after 6 years (i think that is how long the property has existed), so Frank and Nancy determined they should install alarms to immediately detect leaks in each unit. Smart, and saves my furniture in case it does happen. The maintenance staff are also very professional and clean. I’ve never seen them without booties on (no shoes in my place) when they’ve come to address my requests. It also helps that they are very courteous and just pleasant and happy guys to be around.
Management: I understand from the reviews there are a lot of people who seem to dislike that Nancy isn’t at their whim. Again, if you don’t like rules, you won’t like living at DRC. With respect to the reviewer who wrote about the no-​pets policy: the no-​dog rule was there when i signed my lease in 2009. It covers visiting dogs, pets, whatever. Sorry, but if someone fails to read their own contract, why are they blaming others for that oversight? Also, whenever there were any mods to my lease, i was given advance notice, in writing.
With regard to the nonresident who allowed her dog to urinate outside of the office: I’m confused as to why this person felt the need to write a review regarding a personal conflict. You have no standing. You do not live at DRC so I’m not sure why you feel the review was appropriate for DRC. If you have a personal issue w/​someone who works there then you should work it out on a personal level. Why you feel the need to affect someone’s livelihood because you didn’t get your way, is beyond me, and frankly, suspect. The fact that you went home, searched on Unilocal,read the complaining reviews that supported your personal view, selectively used those negative comments to bolster your personal issue, seems at best, childish, and at worst, vindictive. Your dog urinated in someone’s place of business, she asked you not to, you apologized, move on. What are you so angry about that you had to spend all this time researching the person, write a review bashing her. You had one hot minute of encounter with her that didn’t sit right with you; I’ve had 4 years as a resident, so I’d venture to say that my experience over that duration is more representative of the truth than your isolated encounter, at which you were at fault.
Future residents: The rules are there for a reason. I’ve benefited for 4 years + 2 months as a resident there. Trust me, you’ll be glad there is a strict manager when you’re trying to sleep at night or returning home after a long week to a clean and well managed complex.

Management is the best. Rules are set and enforced. The rules make for a harmonious and peaceful environment, keeps the riffraff out. The building is well maintained and very clean. I would hate to ever move out!

My family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids have lived here comfortably for more than 4 years. The 2 bed/​2 bath are large size rooms, with deep walk-​in closets in both. Having a washer and dryer in my unit is a definite plus, along with the dishwasher and other perks that make it modern and pretty.
I respect the professionalism of the management team, which is exemplified in how the building is maintained, well kept and very clean. The manager and her daughter are friendly and open for laughs. Often times we stop by for candy, cookies, cupcakes and conversation. The maintenance staff is always courteous and any repair issues are resolved within 24 hours.
I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else at this time; my kids attend the neighborhood school which is an Public Elementary Science Magnet program with an 883 A.P.I.
Love that we have made friends in the building that attend the same school. Enjoy lots of fun at the pool in the summer or walking to the beach anytime of year.
My Mother is also a huge fan of the property, so much so that she’s leased her own unit in the next building. We’ve established a kinship for the whole team, nonetheless it’s a family affair. Need I say more…

Full Disclosure: I’ve lived here 1.5 years so far, pay my rent on time, and figured out how to move in on a weekday. The property manager asked if I was on Unilocal,and if so if I wouldn’t mind writing a review as they have been slammed by negative reviewers. I wasn’t offered a discount, quid pro quo, or anything else like that. I’m going to write this review as fairly as I possibly can. In my objective opinion, this is a 5 star place to live, and the negative reviews seem very out of whack with the actual experience of living here.
Maintenance: This place is very well maintained. Maintenance staff is a constant presence. Last weekend, somebody decided it was time to get rid of their Christmas tree (come on, it’s February!) and left a trail of tiny pine needles for the poor staff to clean up in the common area. It was gone by Monday morning. The walls are frequently repainted.
The time I have had few maintenance issues, because things break (this is a fact of life, not a knock on DRCA), such as a cabinet door being a little loose, my balcony door having a few gaps that let in cool air, the battery for my security alarm being out of juice, etc. I have had my issues dealt with in 1 business day. Not only is it done, the problem is solved. In my last apartment in the DC area, my AC would get «fixed» and break the next day in May. Humidity without AC sucked. I appreciate that stuff gets taken care of here.
The staff. They are around in the leasing office all the time. On two separate occasions I have gone across the street to Dale’s to get a Coke and realized I left my keys inside. Having ubiquitous staff regularly available to let my forgetful self back in has been incredible. On top of that, when I get let in, I get a candy bar just for going tot he main office. I’ve seen reviews on here that staff can be cold. I haven’t found that to be the case at all. They’ve been professional and easy to talk to, even when just ‘shooting the breeze.‘
Amenities. There is a hot tub here. Washer and dryer in the unit (yay, no more coin op!). Dish washer. Fridge. Plenty of space. Honestly, when I saw the price, the amount of space I was getting, and how close to the ocean this place is, I was fairly certain I was missing something. This place is a great value compared to other rents in the area.

Terrible staff in the leasing office. They seem to enjoy inconveniencing people. DO NOT apply here until you see proof of an open unit. They will charge for multiple applications (two per person if a guarantor is paying) and WILL NOT refund the amount if you do not end up with the place. The woman answering phones in the leasing office should be either fired or trained to deal with other human beings. Stay away from this place at all costs.

There are other places available.
Take photos of Everything when you move in, AND move out.
Normal wear and tear, which is allowed by Ca Law is patently ignored by management here.
Good luck getting your security deposit back.
Ceilings are Thin, you WILL hear your upstairs neighbor walking around.
Halls are noisey and you will hear when people slam doors which happened, due to airflow, frequently.
If you keep windows open, you may hear students in AM and afternoon walking to and hanging out at the bus stop. If you try and nap or you are a day sleeper due to work schedules, this is problematic.
Skip this place and find one where management is happier. Just look around, there are places out there very close that offer less noise, less on edge management and the same or better amenities.
If you look carefully at this review, cause it comes from the heart and speaks the truth, you will go elsewhere.

Application fee is more expensive than most places. You probably won’t even get your security deposit back either, even if your place is in immaculate condition. The manager, Nancy, is very hard to communicate with. You can email (her preferred method of contact) her your concerns, and she just replies with one or two words that does not really answer anything. «Ok. Thanks.» I am so thankful that I was patient enough to find another place, and do not live here and have to deal with her and her «rules.»

Future renters, DO NOT step foot into this apartment complex! You will regret it. I spent an entire year hating my living situation.
The management is absolutely terrible and unprofessional. I was an excellent tenant-​always paying the rent on time and keeping the apartment in immaculate condition with no requests for repairs except for the water heater that constantly broke down-​and was treated with disrespect from the property manager.
Below are reasons renters should take consideration before moving in:
1) The lease is always subject to change. The complex allowed pets when I moved in but when I got a dog I received an abrasive voice mail from the property manager asking why I had a dog because she was «enforcing a no-​dog policy.» She also decided to change the hours of the gym without notice, making it impossible to use the facilities before work in the morning. The property manager constantly changed or imposed rules on the complex, and I lived in a constant state of fear wondering if I was going to break one of the her new «rules.»
2) Tenants are under surveillance. For Christmas I put up twinkle lights in my window. The following week, I went to bring the property manager her Christmas gift and she mentioned seeing my decorations during one of her «nightly walk-​throughs» of the complex. Also, there are cameras everywhere. Do not think these are for your protection or benefit. When I was moving out, she said she «caught me on camera» and «violated the lease by moving out after hours.» There were no specifications on move-​out times on the move-​out-​directions-​form (but remember, she can change the lease without notice).
3) The property manager tried to take almost one-​third of my security deposit. She didn’t make herself present for the scheduled walk-​through but sent me a notice with cleaning costs and major repairs (which were actually minimal and fell under normal wear and tear) that amounted to almost $ 700! I delivered a hand-​written letter challenging the deductions and she responded by yelling at me stating that my letter was «mumbo-​jumbo;» that she «knew her rights» and «knew what she could charge.» We then walked together from her office to my apartment to inspect the place and she couldn’t find a single thing wrong with it. The apartment was in perfect condition which made her even more upset and she exclaimed she’d still be taking $ 275 for cleaning.
I would not recommend this place to anyone! There are better deals and friendlier places. Even if it takes a bit more house-​hunting you won’t regret it.

The apartments are way to expensive for the quality you get. The only redeeming quality is the washer and dryer, but when you factor in the increase in your energy and water bills, it’s really cheaper, albeit less convenient, to just pay the $ 1 per load in a laundry room the whole building has access to.
Would not recommend.

Got to say i agree with Charles. The management sprung there weekend rule on me as well. There was nothing in the lease that stated I could not move in or out on a weekend and was surprised when told about this rule as I was moving in. As with Charles I was forced to have DirecTV which would not be a problem except for the fact that the signal was constantly going out. I called for help with the problem but never had it fixed. I also had a problem with parking. A friend was leaving out of LAX and I told her she could leave her car in my parking spot so she would not have to pay for airport parking, long story short management was not happy with a visitors car in the garage and I was told that the car had to be moved or would be towed. When I explained the situation to them they refused to budge stating it was for the protection of the other tenants.
I did not enjoy living there and would strongly encourage people to find a different place to live.

I just read Charles D.‘s review and decided I better post my own. I just moved out of the Del Rey Club Apartments (I was in the 8040 building and unit 320) and I am not going to say its the perfect place to live (no place is), but it has some great things going for it
* its new construction, no mold, no ancient dirt. I have horrible allergies and this is a must for any place that I move into.
* the livingroom and kitchen floor is laminate which is super easy to keep clean. I would have loved to have it throughout but we were on the 3^rd floor, and so the unit has carpet in the bedroom. Its a nice berber. I am not into carpet but it was a nice neutral color.
* the water pressure in all faucets and showers is excellent
* each unit has it’s own water heater (no cold showers unless you yourself are a hot water hog)
* each unit has its own washer dryer
* all the appliances are new. Now they could have put in a more expensive (i.e., expensive=quieter dishwasher and washer/​dryer), but then the rent would have to be more. But the dishwasher did have an awesome delay feature, which allowed you to run the dishwasher to start after you left the house.
* my unit was a one bedroom and the rooms were a good size.
* the unit had a gas fireplace that was fantastic. We used it all the time.
* the unit had a balcony. I think all the units do.
*the windows are all easy to open and close vinyl clad windows. If you have ever lived in an old place you know that can become a pain, it was a joy here.
* the unit comes with an individual apartment alarm, which is a huge plus. I never worried about crime there but its a nice feature that most apartments don’t have.
I could probably think of some other things, but I want to just get right to the things that Charles complained about
The refrigerator. I think all the units have the same fridge. I can’t vouch for the layout of his apartment, because I only was in a couple of other people’s units besides my own, but I didn’t have a problem with the fridge size in my unit, nor did see any problems in any of the other units I looked at before I picked the unit I rented. What I do remember about the fridge, is how easy it was to clean, since all the interior shelves (including the ones on the door) come off easily for washing in the sink.
Regarding weird shower placement, light switch placement, etc. Every apartment has its quirks, I now live in 600k 1bd luxury condo overlooking the marina, and there is a closet door that when open prevents anyone else from entering the bedroom. There are 400 units in the building and 18 units have the exact same floor plan. But I have been in other units in the building and they have their quirks too. I have lived in luxury apartments in New York, LA, San Francisco and Boulder, and there is no place that doesn’t have it’s quirks. But each unit is usually different and if you don’t like one, don’t move into it, check out other units in the building and pick one whose quirks you can live with.
re which day you can move. I moved stuff out at all hours of the day and night. Since I was moving down the street to my own condo, I moved stuff over two weeks. Because we didn’t need exclusive use of the elevator, we didn’t ask the property manager to put up the signs she usually does so that people moving can have the exclusive use of the elevator. But at no time, were we told we could not move on any specific day, nor were we asked to stop using the elevator for the big pieces of furniture any of the days we did move. So I am not saying what Charles said didn’t happen, I am just saying, I didn’t have the same experience.
Regarding the Internet. Yes, it’s not as fast as it can be, but it was FREE. You would have to confirm with the building management that it’s still free, but we lived there for 14 months, and were told when we first moved in that the first year the Internet from Verizon was free. It took a little calling to the vendor to get it working, but then I plugged in my wireless router and voilà, free Internet. It was not great for watching videos on
(especially at night) but it was usable for listening to AOL XM online (streaming radio) and all the other normal web browsing I was doing (I work from home on the Internet with a ²⁴⁄₇ business — website hosting, so I am on the Internet a lot).
regarding the notices in the elevator. The building tenants seem to be a mix of professional people and LMU students. The professionals are quiet, clean and respectful. The LMU students are a split between respectful and immature. The buildings manager has a good handle on how to keep the building from lowest common denominator. The office is not open 24/​7, but all it takes is one call to her after hours voice mail to get her to call a tenant who needs a reminder it’s after hours. Neighbors being inconsiderate happens everywhere. Having someone who can effectively deal with it, is very rare.

UPDATE: Well, I finally moved out, and there are a few more things I think any prospective tenant should know. First, the management invented a «rule» against moving out on a weekend. I don’t know when they expect you to move out, but if you work during the week, you’re out of luck. Lease ends on a weekend? Tough. Anyway, I violated this «rule» and moved out on a Saturday. Everything went smoothly until I was finishing the last load, when the manager came outside and started screaming and threatening to shut down the elevator and call the police. Ha! There’s no «weekend rule» in the lease. They never posted it. It’s not real. Besides, what can they do? Evict you? You’re moving out! Anyway, they didn’t call the police. Still, be ready for a shouting match if you move on the weekend.
Next, the deposit. Mine was returned more than four weeks after I moved out, later than the three-​week deadline under California law. They also deducted over $ 1000 for «cleaning» and «painting.» They did not specify hours worked or wages or attach receipts as required by law. These fees are also ridiculous for a small two-​bedroom left in good condition. I wrote a letter threatening to sue the management company, Manchester Development, LLC, and they returned my full deposit. Do not let them get away with any shenanigans. Know your rights! If they withhold any amount in bad faith, a court can grant you a return of the full deposit PLUS two times the full amount in damages. California Civil Code section 1950.5.
Furthermore, since my original review, people have confirmed that the management leans on people to remove reviews on this page. They haven’t tried it with me, but I can’t wait.
Final update, they did start accepting packages again. That might have gotten them two start but for the «weekend rule» and deposit scam. As it is, I still wish I could give zero stars.
Now, on to my original review:
I regret the day I set foot past the ridiculous dolphin statue at the entrance. These apartments, and the management, have given me nothing but headaches since. Here are my major gripes:
1. The owners have apparently sold a monopoly over this building to a subcontractor who exclusively installs Direct TV and some DSL internet service. We cannot use any other service. Whatever your opinion of Time Warner, having competition is better than not, in terms of price and service. The subcontractor has customer service during normal business hours, but that’s it. Those of us who work full time are just out of luck if something goes wrong (as it repeatedly has) during the week. (Apparently, the FCC or FTC is considering putting an end to this sort of unfair anticompetitive practice. Yay!)
2. Also, it seems like not a week goes by without another stern letter posted around the building threatening us with «3-​days notice» if we leave a box next to the trash chute, have a dog that barks, place a welcome mat at the door, throw up in the stairwell, park in a visitor space, or commit any number of other offenses. I honestly walk the halls in fear that the managers will spot me and evict me for having my shoes untied.
3. The apartment design leaves a bit to be desired. First, the kitchen is tiny, and is not helped by the oversized refrigerator, which protrudes about 13 inches from its alcove into the middle of the space. There is no pantry and very little cabinet space. This is probably all fine if you’re a student just getting started on your own, but if you have a fair amount of pots, pans, and utensils, and you keep more than just two cereal boxes in your pantry, you’ll wish you had more storage.
4. Other bizarre features include the master shower. It is a standing shower with a swing-​out door. What’s weird is that the shower head, instead of pointing toward a wall, points instead directly at the door. This means that when you start the shower, you have to either stand in the cold water until it warms up (which I hate) or open the door, turn the water on, and then close the door quickly while water sprays across your bathroom.
5. A similar feature, which is just a constant nuisance is the placement of the guest closet light switch on the wrong side of the door, so you have to close the door, turn on the light, open the door and go into the closet, then exit, close the door, and turn off the light. This may seem trivial now, but give it a week — it will become infuriating.
Overall, my advice is this: If you’re a student, this isn’t bad; it’s nicer, but a lot more expensive than some of the dumps where I lived in school. If you’re a grownup, find something else, even if it costs a couple hundred more.
