Established in 1980.

The office of Michael Montgomery DDS is devoted to restoring and enhancingthe natural beauty of your smile using conservative and state-​of-​the-​art procedures that will result in Great Smiles for Life! Our high standards in dental care enable us to provide excellent quality in dental services to our patients. Comprehensive treatment planning and use of restorative and cosmetic dentistry to achieve optimal dental health is our promise to you. Dr. Montgomery and his entire Team believe that prevention and education promote optimal dental health. After graduating from UCLA School of Dentistry, Dr Montgomery was fortunate to join the practice of childhood friend in our hometown of Playa del Rey. Two years later, his friend left dentistry to pursue other interests and he took over full responsibility for the practice.

A highly trained and skilled professional, Dr. Montgomery considers Continuing Education an essential ingredient in providing the ideal treatment options and individualized care for his patients. His formal dental training comes from UCLA, with over 1000 hours of additional courses from USC, University of Pacific, and Loma Linda University. Dr. Montgomery is also a member of highly regarded professional associations such as the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Western Society of Periodontology, and the California Dental Association. He received his Master status with the Academy of General Dentistry in 2004.

I was referred by a friend well over 15 years ago and Dr. M has been my favorite dentist ever since. I love how he will come and sit down with a serious look on his face after my teeth are cleaned and pretend to tell me how much I need a tooth tattoo of a battleship. They always have piña colada fluoride for me. I always try to bring teeth related toys when I visit. Getting my teeth cleaned feels like I’m at a spa it’s so relaxing. Seriously.
My husband wasn’t happy with any dentists he was finding in Los Angeles — they were all trying to upsell him something so I suggested he see Dr. M and he’s never left. There is a reason that ALL of Dr. Montgomery (and his staff’s) reviews are 5 stars. He’s the best.

Wow! I just came back from my first appointment with Dr. Montgomery, and I can’t praise him and his team enough.
Irene, the receptionist, was fantastic. She was friendly and helpful from beginning to end. She even caught a slip up from my insurance company (it says «prime dental coverage» on my card, but I only have emergency dental coverage — how misleading!) and, although I didn’t have dental coverage, offered to give me a discount because she understood that I wasn’t planning on paying for my entire visit alone. She also let me pay in installments even after the discount. She couldn’t have been more accommodating and wonderful if she’d tried!
Dr. Montgomery himself is great. I have severe dental anxiety after a lifetime of crappy, dishonest dentists, but Dr. Montgomery made me comfortable from the get go. He kept things light-​hearted and was obviously looking out for my best interests instead of just trying to milk me for every penny (as previous doctors have tried to do to me). He saw some tooth decay, showed me where it was, and said that I could prevent it from becoming a cavity if I took better care of my teeth. I’ve never had a dentist point that out to me before; they usually reach for the drill immediately to charge me for fillings!
I went in for wisdom tooth pain as well, and made it very clear that I didn’t want to have them extracted unless and until I had to. He heard me out and gave me several options after explaining the situation to me in full based on my x-​rays.
I’ve never had such a thorough dental exam, and I’m DEFINITELY coming back! I’d recommend him to everyone I know.

This review is long overdue. I have been going to Dr. Montgomery’s office for about six years now, and after many nightmarish experiences with other dentists and endodontists, I finally feel safe with a dentist. I have referred all of my friends and family to Dr. Montgomery. As others have said here, he is kind, friendly, and thorough. He never rushes through my appointments but takes his time to explain everything in detail. He even asks me about my general health, explaining how this is related to dental health. Furthermore, Dr. Montgomery holds the prestigious MAGD, Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, and he continually educates himself on the latest theories and procedures. He is the utmost expert! Making his practice even greater, he employs a very compassionate staff of assistants, which makes each visit to his office extraordinarily comfortable. Dr. Montgomery is a rare find, indeed, and I’m so grateful for him. He deserves every five-​star review that you see here – he is truly that exceptional!

I have been coming to Dr. Montgomery for 14 years and he is the best! I have experienced every dental nightmare imaginable but Dr. Montgomery knows how to fix everything and he always does it with a smile. He also knows when to refer the job out too and he has great referrals for braces or complicated procedures. I hope he never, ever retires because I will be a sad girl if that ever happens. I recently had my crown come off and he stayed at the office even after all of his staff had left so he could put my crown back on. He is one of a kind!

For Linda A. For emergencies, Dr. Montgomery will see you very quickly. He will even open his office for you.
If Dr. Montgomery does not know something, he will not bluff his way through with some answer, but comes right out and tell you.
I needed a specialist, and I went to the dentist he recommended, who was also great and deserves five stars too.
He is concern about your comfort, he does not lecture you, but does explain what you should do while not being judgmental.
What more is there to say that has not been said.
We don’t go to his office for the view, but today I kidded his assistant about not having the view. His two primary rooms have the view. His other room is primary for X-​Raying and some procedures. But, one does not wait long in the chair before getting ones teeth cleaned or a dental procedure and end up looking at the ceiling anyway.

After my terrible experience with another dentist (
), I was downright afraid to go to another dentist again. But Dr. Montgomery and his staff have been a godsend. From the moment I called his office and spoke with Irene (the receptionist) I knew things were looking good because she took the time to follow up with my previous dentist to get my medical records. She also contacted my insurance company and actually found an error in their coverage letter, then faxed me a copy for review. Good first impression.
Anyway I really can’t say enough about Dr. Montgomery. He is a caring man with a nice smile and a kind heart, and just all around a kick-​ass dentist. I came in with a problem caused by another dentist, and he fixed it– simple as that. He really takes the time to listen and I never get the feeling that he is rushed. He explains everything in great detail and answers all of my questions (which I tend to have a lot of considering I’m analyst). He’s been in practice for over 30 years, served on the Peer Review Committee of the Western LA Dental Society for 10 years and decorated with numerous awards. I also love that he’s born and raised in Playa del Rey as I am a local now, and you can’t beat the beautiful view of the marina from his dentist chair.
As far as dentists go, I have found «the one». Highly recommend.

My whole family sees Dr. Montgomery and we are blessed. He knows his craft, cares deeply about us, has tremendous integrity and has a high quality team behind him. I’ve had many dentists across several states and he is (hands down) the best I’ve ever known. Don’t delay and SWITCH to Dr. Montgomery. In the past, I have not had much luck using Unilocal to find a dentist. Most offices simply don’t have any reviews.
In my quest for the perfect dentist, I have been to 5 different dentists in the past three years (cleaning every 6 months, and some minor dental work).
However, I have just found my new dentist. Doctor Montgomery is amazing and his staff is friendly and has a great sense of humor! I am moving out of the country this summer, but will be back every time I’m in the area. Heck, I might even schedule trips home to visit friends, family, and my new dentist.

Dr. M is an amazing dentist! He worked on my daughter who had a couple cavities and he was super nice and gentle. She didn’t even need novacaine because he went slow and did it right.
My husband just had a filling replaced by Dr. M today and the did such a good job. They only use the porcelain fillings so no more silver teeth! He said he cant even tell he just something put on his tooth.
He is very patient and helpful. I would recommend him to anyone! Thanks Dr. M!!!

It’s been a little over a year now. Hubbs’ filling is loose and sometimes painful. One filling in my daughters mouth has already fallen out (and that happened a few months ago). Shouldn’t fillings last for years?!? This is ridic! Will not be going back for any more dental work from him. He was nice but come on!

I cannot stress how much I love Doc M. I’ve referred anyone I can to him. I started going to his practice when I lived about 10 minutes from there, and even though for the past 12 years I’ve lived a good 35 minutes from there, I still won’t see any other dentist. Plus, YOU CANNOT BEAT THE VIEW FROM YOUR CHAIR as you have work done!
A year or so ago, to try to save money, I cheated on Doc M. I used some stupid coupon to see a dentist close-​by for x-​rays and the whole lot, only to have them try to scam me by telling me I needed $ 1600.00 worth of dentistry and that they couldn’t even clean my teeth for some vague reason.
I went back there to get my x-​rays to show to Doc M. and he confirmed my suspicions by telling me that, at best, I MIGHT EVENTUALLY need a couple things done, but that for now I am A-​OK teeth-​wise. I told him I was sorry for cheating on him and that it would never happen again.
His staff is wonderful and gentle. My only beef is that it can take upwards of a good month or two to get an appointment, even just for a cleaning. But I guess that’s because Doc M. is so good and his office is pretty small. He’s the only dentist – it’s a one-​man show. However, I have NEVER had to wait more than maybe 5 minutes once I got there. They DO NOT overbook or stack appointments.

I think I’ve recommended at least five friends and coworkers to Dr. Montgomery and they are all happy with his service. He does not recommend more work than you need and in fact saved a friend $ 2000 in unnecessary procedures that another dentist recommended. He has a low key office in the Playa and the best thing is the amount of time he will take to explain a procedure to you. I remember getting a veneer several years ago and the level of attention he paid to the shape of the veneer as well as the feel of it in my mouth was astounding — no one pays this much attention to details anymore and it’s so refreshing to find someone who is truly an expert at what they do. If you live on the Westside, a drive to the Playa will not be out of the way if you’re looking for an excellent, reasonably priced dentist.
