Sam’s Tailoring

Going into this place caught me a little of guard. The guy there didn’t greet me. As I stood at the front waiting to talk to someone. He doesn’t say much. I mean he looks upset when you walk in. He walked up to me and just stared at me. Didn’t ask me a thing. So I just told him what I needed.
I brought in a pair of slacks that fit perfect everywhere but my butt area. He was very helpful with trying to get them to fit as I wanted them. And I was hopeful of things turning out right. I mean what can go wrong?
I asked how much it would be he said $ 15.
I didn’t pay the same day I came back two days later to pick them up and he changed it to $ 20 dollars. Keep in mind this was only a small area of my pants. I was really upset. I asked why the price changed and all he said was $ 20. I really didn’t feel like arguing. That’s horrible customer service. He rips people off. Don’t go here it’s really a waste of money.

I have mixed feelings about this place. So far I have had two of my dresses completely ruined. He made them way too short, beyond what I had specified, so that basically they both turned into tops and I can’t do anything with them besides donate. I re-​bought one of the dresses and went in again (foolishly) to get that one hemmed, and then he tried to charge me the same price even though I told him I had to buy a completely new dress and basically wasted all of the money I spent on the first alteration because I got rid of it! Obviously I wouldn’t expect him to do it for free, but I expected him to at least give me a small break. Also, the majority of the time that I come I am left waiting for 20 minutes outside– he always has a «be back soon» sign out front, but never comes back when it says he will. Also, the fact that he only accepts cash is a huge inconvenience and completely archaic.

Sam is a man of very few words. I’ve had him hem several pants, fix the stitching on a pair of pants, resew buttons, etc. He works super fast and usually has my clothes ready ready the same day or the next day. While I think the prices are a bit steep and somewhat arbitrary (I don’t like when tailors, dry cleaners etc don’t post prices), I am paying for the convenience and like to support local businesses.

Came by twice in the morning after 10 to pick up a dress, an hour apart, and found the door locked (both times) and the open sign on and the hours clearly displayed. What? We’ll see how the dress turns out.

He did a great job, but I had him take in two cotton dresses and he charged me $ 60. complete bullsh*t.

Went there and brought in a pair of brand new inform pants that my work provides .
Though Sam’s personality isn’t warm and fuzzy, I was happy with the location being near where I live. He did a good job and charged $ 16.00.
About a month later I needed a skirt hemmed and a work vest taken in a little. The price for the two pieces was $ 48.00. I asked him why the price was so high and he said there was lining in the skirt and vest so it costs extra.
I purchased two more pairs of my uniform pants and brought them back to Sam because my employer will reimburse alterations up to $ 16.00 so. Since I paid $ 16.00 last time and he is close to home, I went back. When I picked up the two pairs of pants he told me the total was $ 40.00!!! I mentioned that last time he only charged me $ 16.00 for one pair and why is it now $ 40.00 for two pairs??? He said the pants were different and here is why he gets a one star rating :
The pants aren’t different. We only have one style of pants to choose from for uniforms. He started yelling at me in front of another customer saying I need to go check the other pants to see that they are different. I kept telling him they are not different and he kept arguing with me ! I was mortified that I was treated like that!
Sam needs to learn a little mire friendly customer service and to be consistent with his pricing instead of making up the price as he goes.

Great workmanship, always pleasant to work with, and knowledgable about his craft. Very fair prices.

I’ve used Sam’s for alterations twice and will go back again. First time, a pleated skirt needed hemming, too complicated a job for my basic sewing skills. They did an excellent job, even making the back a tad longer to have it hang properly with the higher heels I would normally wear with it. Next time, a lined skirt I got in France over 20 years which I have long since outgrown, but loved too much to discard. They somehow found enough extra fabric in the seams to enlarge the waist and hip area so it now fits perfectly, and nobody would ever know I didn’t buy it that way originally. Prices are reasonable, especially since I would not be able to wear these clothes w/​o fixing.

I took my daughter’s prom dress here and they did a wonderful job on a very difficult hem (chiffon-​like fabric). Not only was the hem perfect, but the price was extremely reasonable. I agree with the reviewer who said that the man who owns the shop is all business and not very chatty, but as long as you know what you want, I recommend the place.

This feels like an old fashioned tailoring operation. The owner is an older gentleman that speaks English well enough, but not perfectly. He gets straight down to business immediately. This isn’t the sort of store where you ask his advice on how you want things done. He finds out what you want, and then does exactly that. He’s quick, professional, and does his work well. There is never a wait. I’ve used his services multiple times and I’ll continue to do so.

You ever had one of those times where you have to go to a wedding and as fate would have it, you are too fat for your go-​to summer suit and need to have it altered before a wedding that Saturday? Uh, yeah, me neither…
I’ve taken various garments to Sam for tailoring and he always does top notch work. Prices are very reasonable and turnaround is usually just 2 or 3 days, even on major stuff. It is a small operation, just him and his wife, but he is very good at what he does and I can’t recommend his work enough.
