History

Established in 1990.

Joseph Huettl started work originally with Nicolaas DeVries in 1985 before starting his own company, Habitat Landscape in 1990. After a partnership split he formed Oak Creek Design and then partnered again to form Huettl Thuilot Associates. After 5 years, producing 5 Sunset Award winning gardens, Huettl Thuilot Associates spit into 2 companies. Since 2007, Huettl Landscape Architecture has been designing and building many compelling projects, winning multiple design awards. Our work has been featured in local, national and international magazines and publications.

Business Owner

Joseph received his Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1986. Since that time he has obtained his California state contractor’s license and landscape architect’s license. He has won multiple awards from ASLA, Sunset, Custom Home and Pool and Spa News. He has acted as a judge in the Sunset Dream Garden Design Awards.

Huettl’s excellent team transformed our yard from a minor disaster into the jewel of the neighborhood while keeping the project solidly within our tight budget and completing it exactly on schedule. It’s been two years now and our yard has grown into a small masterpiece. Their pallet of native, low-​maintenance plants, well-​crafted concrete work, redwood fencing and subdued and original water features worked perfectly for our sensibilities. Most impressively, their design beautifully accommodated an existing complex of redwood decking so that the additions by Huettl and Co. blended seamlessly and elegantly into a well integrated whole with the existing structure.
