We have state of the art equipment and UVerse TV and Satellite Radio. Step It Up Gym was established to provide equipment and services to accommodate all different goals and lifestyles. With accessibility 24/​7, Step It Up gym can be used by any member at anytime! No contracts! Family owned and operated! Awesome referral program!

History

Established in 2005.

Step It Up Gym was established in 2005 as a Studio that offers classes to people from all walks of life. In 2010 we launched a 24 hour key access gym for members to use freely as well as receive instructional training if needed. Step It Up Gym has a variety of different memberships that can be gym-​only or incorporate both the gym and the studio. After 4 renovations and expansions over 5 years we have mastered the ability to provide exactly what people are looking for to accommodate their health and wellness.

Hi, My name is Ryan McNabb and I want to personally thank you for visiting our Yelp page. I began my journey in fitness in 2004 shortly after graduating high school where I got certified as a Personal Trainer through AFAA. I started training clients at the YMCA in Pleasant Hill and began to develop a passion in helping people improve their health and wellness. I spent several years studying Kinesiology as well as tutoring Anatomy and Physiology students at Diablo Valley College. In 2007 I became an independent trainer where I was able to train and build my clientele at Step It Up Studios which is owned and operated by my mother Kiki. In 2010, I opened Step It Up Gym. I love educating my clients as well as giving them a kick butt workout! Along with training, member satisfaction is a huge priority to me! Ryan has done it again! He just swapped out all of his equipment for brand new state of the art equipment. What an amazing workout this morning!!! This gym just became even better!!! Why waste your money on any other gym. It’s clean, it’s modern, and the owner takes a personal interest in his company and helps everyone!!! I’m still a huge fan of this place!

This is a great little gym with 24⁄7 access. It’s clean, has all the basics and the equipment is well maintained. Best of all is the owner and expert trainer, Ryan McNabb, who is really approachable and supportive. He’s clearly passionate about fitness and nutrition, and he always takes the time to understand his clients’ unique needs. Definitely a gem in this corner of Pleasant Hill.

In February 2012 while playing football I suffered severe fractures to my leg and ankle. I was broken spiritually, mentally, and physically by this injury. I was relegated to a wheelchair and told by my Surgeon that I may not be able to walk normally or run. Fortunately through fate I had a trainer name Ryan McNabb in my life. After talking to him about my injury Ryan assured me that he would help me through my recovery and with his physical Therapy and Fitness knowledge I would be walking and regain more than all my strength and mobility that I had lost do to this injury. Within two months Ryan was training me at his gym helping me to rebuild my body. Thanks to Ryan McNabb at Step It up Gym I am lifting weights and doing cardio 5 – 6 days per week after just over 5 months time. I have ran several 5k races and lost 50 lbs.
Working with Ryan has been a wonderful experience. His knowledge of fitness and nutrition helped me tremendously. I am getting in better shape and I am stronger than I have ever been. Most importantly I feel better about myself.

This gym allows me to enjoy my workout away from the chaos of commercial gyms. It has 24 hour key access, very clean and friendly environment. I train with Ryan twice a week. He keeps me focused and motivated. Love this place. Check it out!!!

We’ve all seen the gyms with tons of amenities like pools and massages, juice bars, and hundreds of machines, and and the membership fees to match.
If I’m going to spend a lot of my time (and money) somewhere, it has to feel good to be there. Having looked around at a number of smaller area gyms without finding one I liked, I had a good feeling about the owners of Step It Up as soon as I met them.
I just joined — and it looks like I’ll be spending more time than money there — very reasonable pricing.
I’ll update my review after a couple of months.
It’s a compact place with a few treadmills, ellipticals and recumbent bikes along with a full complement of machines, dumbbells, kettle bells, straps, bosu and medicine balls, mats, and whatever else you need for a workout and absolutely NO HYPE. They pack a lot of function into a cozy, bright, clean, and well maintained space.
Several experienced trainers are available by appointment, also at reasonable rates.
The second option as a member is to take classes in a separate area (that aspect of Step It Up is run by Kiki). Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, boot camps and others are available at $ 5-​$ 15 per class. I’m looking forward to getting into good enough shape to take some of those as well.
A changing room — no shower room but I’d rather shower at home anyway and living nearby makes that a snap.
It’s good to find a place with genuinely nice people who know their stuff and want to provide excellent service.
If you’re serious about getting in, doing your workout in a clean environment, and getting training that fits your needs from certified trainers, without the hoopla of the mega-​fitness-​factories, this probably is the place for you, too!

Great gym. I never have to worry about parking, or not being able to get the machine I want. Always kept clean. Free wifi, jump ropes, water dispenser, yoga/​pilates matts, and everything I need for my workout. The owner, Ryan, genuinely cares about providing a great workout experience for his members. I love supporting this small local business.
