History

Established in 1982.

Easterm Medical Center was founded in 1982 by Dr. Mason Shen L. Ac, Ph. D, OMD. His first clinic was in Livermore called Pain & Stress Management. In 1990, he had offices in Danville, and Tracy. Later settled in Pleasanton in the year 1992. Dr. Mason Shen, and his acupuncture committee changed California’s law to allow patient’s their own freedom to walk into an acupuncture clinic without referals from their doctor. Dr. Mason Shen treated thousands of patients at EMC passing his legacy to his daughter Teresa Shen, L. Ac, O.M.D. who graduated from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Doctor of Chinese Medicine, China and studied under him.

The EMC is highly regarded in the community serving the East Bay area. We have excellent results in pain relief and stress management. Our patients tell us that we truly care about them and their health and well being. We offer a friendly and professional environment in which we provide personal attention to each patient.

Fourth generation practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture at Eastern Medical Center. Board certified by Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, and by California State Board. Recognized as Best Acupuncturist by Pleasanton Weekly, 2009, 2011 Best of Pleasanton Award in the Acupuncture category by the US Commerce Association, Who’s Who Registry 2008.

Studied and practiced TCM and Acupuncture for over 10 yrs and I look forward to helping people for many more years to come. By having this experience, I am able to define the importance of TCM and Acupuncture and how helpful it can be to the human body and our life span. I want to extend my love and joy of this medicine to all those that come to my office.

My ultimate goal is for everyone to realize the power of the human body to heal itself, and to realize the closer to nature we are, the better our bodies are to us. One day we will all learn to live in nature again, without the reliance of medication

Before I met Dr. Teresa Shen, I had tried a few different acupuncturists. Once I met Dr. Shen and knew how good she was, I knew I would always see her for acupuncture. She is the best! I have gone to her for many, many years now. She is very gifted at what she does and really knows what she’s doing. I have seen her for many various health issues and she always helps me. I’ve had some health problems that took a few visits to make it better since I let the problem get too severe, but I’m always amazed when I see her for something I’ve been dealing with for a couple of months and it can take 1 visit to make the problem disappear. That’s how good she is. Since I have seen her for many years now, I have seen her grow and become even more talented at what she does. She is a very nice, kind and positive person and a gifted acupuncturist for sure!

I made an appointment for my husband who is a migraine patient. Looking at all the positive Unilocal reviews, I asked him to see Dr Teresa. He had severe headache when he went there. The doctor came, gave her sales pitch, inserted few needles and left the room. Her staff came back to remove the needles. She never came back to check on whether he was feeling better since he had headache. When my husband told the staff that he still had headache, they just asked him to come back another day. I didn’t expect his headache to go right away but I expected the doctor to at least check on him later to see how he is feeling. She just never showed up.
It is just sad to see how much money she is charging and in return we customers are getting such bad experience.
Overall, we feel this place is extremely commercial and we are not coming back again

Dr Shen is really friendly makes you feel comfortable and takes her time. She relieved my stiff neck in one session and fortunate for me I was able to be seen the day it occurred.
My son had a tissue injury from running his leg into a pipe sticking out of the side of a building and the swelling and pain went down in 2 days also with good home care.
Recently I developed a bulging disc and I saw her twice. She can’t fix the bulging disc but her treatments helped with pain and muscle tightness.
I couldn’t give 5 stars because when I hurt my back I wanted to see her ASAP to get the muscle tension addressed but I couldn’t see her until 3 more days later and I do think it affected the speed of my recovery.
But when you put your name on waiting list they will call you sometimes sooner. Or you can call again and again.
But if she is busy it’s because she is good and I have had acupuncture with 3 other doctors with no results.

I’ve been going to Dr. Teresa Shen for ~6 months and she is awesome, she uses several healing modalities and each appointment is different. I think I’ve tried almost every healing modality and worked with lots of practitioners over the past 20 years but hands down she’s one of my faves. I try to leverage my 20 visits a year to keep myself tuned up so we usually work on specific things each visit: cold or flu, low energy funk, insomnia, cravings, digestion, hormones, or anything that has me feeling a little bit off. Even from a stress management perspective I feel so calm and peaceful afterwards.
I have been sick for two weeks (sore throat, nasty chest gunk, sinuses, ear infection, mucus in eyes) and tried OTC’s, Vicks on chest and feet, steam, honey tea, and anything else WebMD said. Tuesday aka Day 10 I broke down and went to Urgent Care and now on antibiotics for sinusitis and ear infection and doubt if they were needed. Trending toward better but definitely still stick. Went to my regularly scheduled accupuncture appointment at Eastern Medical Center last night where Dr. Shen gave me a lymphatic massage, gua sha (Chinese scraping), essential oils and accupuncture. I woke up this morning feeling near normal with just a small tickle in my throat. Now I am kicking myself for not going last week because last time I had a cold she did fire cupping on me and knock the lingering residual phlegm out of me in 24 hours.

My Midwife recommended acupuncture after 37 weeks of pregnancy to get my body ready for labor (not to induce). After calling a few places that seemed not-​so-​knowledgeable or friendly, I found Eastern Medical Center on Unilocal.They were quick to schedule me and very friendly. I saw Dr. Shen for the first time today and my treatment was amazing. Acupressure and then some acupuncture left me feeling incredibly relaxed and much of the stiffness out of my shoulders. She’s warm, easy to talk to, and clearly knowledgeable. She knew exactly the treatment that my midwife was recommending. I felt very much at ease through the whole session, and look forward to going back next week (as long as this baby doesn’t arrive before then!)

Dr. Shen is amazing. I came to her in hopes of helping me have a successful IVF implantation… and it worked! I was not only able to get pregnant, but I carried two healthy beautiful baby boys close to full term. There were no complications and they didn’t have to be in the NICU :). I can’t thank her enough. The best quality about Dr. Shen is that she genuinely cares about her patients. She evaluates you when she sees you, and treats you based on what she sees that day, unlike some Dr.‘s who set out a protocol and don’t adjust it based on your needs of that day. She explains everything in detail to make you feel comfortable. I would recommend her to anyone no matter what their needs are. :)

Dr. Shen is so experienced and I come to her all the time for almost any problem I have on my body. After I have tried a few other clinics, I have been her patient for 2 – 3 years so far and she always tries different ways to provide the best treatment each session. I can tell that my body feels better and full of energy after each session and I always look forward to the next one. She has helped me to go through the entire pregnancy, overcome gestational diabetes together, and achieved optimal health toward the end of it.

I’m a firm believer and will continue being a patient as long as Dr. Shen is practicing. First, the staff is so kind and knowledgeable. The office is gorgeous and has a spa like feeling to it. From the minute you walk in the door you are encouraged to relax and let your cares fade away.
Now for the treatments. Dr. Shen is friendly, compassionate and highly experienced. She makes it a relaxing and very positive experience. I see Dr. Shen for some very serious health issues. I’ve had pneumonia resolve w/​in 2 days of a treatment. I saw Dr. Shen after a collapsed lung and the healing rate was incredible. If I’m anxious, I leave very relaxed. A simple virus is gone w/​in hours of my treatment.
Now for the question everyone has: Is it painful? Not even close. Don’t let fear of needles bother you. These are teeny tiny and most of the time you don’t even feel them going in. Certain needles in certain places might yield a quick wince, but often that is an area that warrants the needle and a quick adjustment makes it comfy. Once placed you will just feel like resting and will go into a peaceful state. Pain is a non-​issue. The treatment is so refreshing. The sensations feel really calming and soothing.
Acupuncture both intrigues and scares people. I am a huge skeptic, but I have seen some amazing results in both myself and others. Dr. Shen is fantastic.

i have been having acupuncture treatments since the 80’s along with my Mom and Dad by Dr. Mason Shen for various reasons and «tune ups» so I was so happy to learn a few years ago his daughter Theresa had followed in his footsteps. She is wonderful, intuitive and so gifted. She’s helped me to regain my health with treatments, herbs and teas. I’m off of all medications, eating good whole foods lost 40 pounds naturally and safely and feeling better than I ever have! She has a wonderful team of health professionals in her circle and they work together to ensure healing. Both Theresa and April Shabazz have totally changed and enhanced my health and life. I feel so blessed to have health professionals caring for me who really care!

I was treated by Dr. Shen for about a year and a half to bring back my smell. I was involved in a pretty bad skateboarding accident that took away my ability to smell anything. The doctors at Kaiser said i would never be able to smell again. Luckily and fortunately I ran in to Theresa through my mothers work and with in a year my smell was back 70% (by my own judgement) but what a magical improvement!
Besides her work of miracle she taught me things on how to heal myself, thinking positive, thinking forward, and etc. Those things are hard to forget.
I can smell good food, fresh air, THE RAIN, fire & smoke, flowers, my body odor!

My husband has been treated by Dr. Shen for over a year. Having suffered a major stroke in 2010, he was looking for a good acupuncturist after we located to the LIvermore area from Laguna Niguel, and Dr. Shen came highly recommended. We had been through 3 or 4 acupuncturists in Southern California and found that the quality of care varied widely as did their business practices. Dr. Shen is one of the best. She introduced my husband to cupping which provided him great relief, even though the bruises lasted for days (because of his stroke he had much more bruising than a normal person would.)
I found myself under tremendous stress and started treatments at their former location. Loved Dr. Shen, who explained everything and offered solid advice, but was not in love with the location.
Recently had a problem with my sinuses. For two weeks, I was so congested that I couldn’t breathe through my nose. Nothing seemed to work. I saw Dr. Shen and she introduced me to running cups to improve my lymphatic system. When I walked out of her office, I could breathe again and it kept getting better. I was very impressed.
Highly recommend Dr. Shen if you want a very accomplished acupuncturist with a holistic approach.

I came in because Dr. Shen was highly recommended in the Pleasanton area. What I learned was incredible. I am pregnant and just entering my 2nd trimester and she educated me on the power of kidney chi and how this in Chinese Medicine affects how someone attracts wealth and abundance with enhanced will power (drive). During the 2nd trimester you can do a treatment called the Golden Needle that enhances my own kidney meridians to help enhance the baby’s kidney chi. It was a powerful experience that I felt all over my body. My energy was even enhanced since the experience and it was so powerful that I highly recommend.

I love Dr. Shen! I had an injury at work and was referred to her through my worker’s compensation doctor.
She’s introduced me to cupping, acupuncture, acupressure and a couple of other remedies that I have no ideal of spelling.
I have pain in the hands, elbows, wrist and left shoulder, neck etc and she gets in there and relieves the tightness almost instantaneously which last quiet a few days after… However, I do end up slightly sore days after its better than the tightness any day!

Nice office, good staff, Dr. Shen is great and I’ve had a lot of success with pain relief after having complicated foot reconstructive surgery.
My only complaint is prices have gone up (I’ve been a patient off and on for a couple of years). I go less frequently because of this, especially since my insurance doesn’t cover it.

I have been seeing Dr Shen for several issues including stress reduction, kidney issues, tension and back problems. I started going for help with these issues, but continue to go now, even after my issues were resolved, because I feel like her treatments are preventative.
I always leaving feeling relaxed, but with a clear head and able to return back to work and my normal responsibilities. I feel like she «resets my system» and removes any blocks that may have been even slightly bothering me such as minor aches and pains.
