Mechanic King Full Service Auto Repair

me a buddy made a spur of the moment to go Reno for a weekend tournament on a Friday, since I haven’t driven the car so far for a couple years, I wanted to do a quick pre-​trip inspection. I was a friends house so I looked up AAA and briefly saw this place’s 4 stars (without reading those two 1 star reviews, what a mistake it was!) and called them, knowing the situation they said they were able to do it right away without much wait, this was the ONLY positive thing with this place (or could be a negative since nobody is going to this dump).
We waited for about 20 minutes and they said the car needed both front and rear brakes because they’re down to 20% and pulsating, it would be unsafe to drive for a road trip. We were quoted over $ 500 including a brake fluid flush, plus a few items «needs attention» like condition of wiper blades even they’re a month old.
I declined knowing I could get it done for a lot cheaper at the mechanic I trust in Fremont and also questioning why the brake pad would be down to 20% already after only two years of usage. Still I gave them the benefit of the doubt they’re being honest about the brakes and didn’t want to put our lives in danger driving a car with bad brakes. We didn’t have enough time to go back to Fremont to do the brakes and get stuck in getting off work traffic, so we went over to Enterprise just half mile down the street and got a rental instead.
Few days after I got home I took it to my mechanic for the brake job, he calls me up and said «the brakes are at 80%, there’s nothing wrong with it, why are you replacing them for?»
So there, we wasted money for the rental for nothing, especially we paid extra for the SUV since we needed AWD for the snow just because we trusted the so called AAA approved shop. Googled up and it’s simply a $ 1000 – 1200 yearly fee to be listed on AAA. I won’t ever look at AAA’s list again after this.

Awesome service at a fraction of the dealership price. I seriously couldn’t be happier. You know what I love? The mechanic showed me the broken parts that he had to replace, explained how they work and why it needed to be fixed. I never felt like I was getting worked over, like I did when I would leave my dealership. Right off of the freeway, I’m SO happy I found them.

I was referred here by a coworker and have made certain that I pass along the reference to others. I first came in with a burst radiator hose that was replaced quickly and actually cost LESS than I anticipated. Then I came in needing a new window motor and they couldn’t have been more friendly, helpful, and reasonably priced!
I definitely will be trusting these guys with all of my car issues.

AAA tow truck took my car to this location after it died at the McDonald’s parking lot. I was on my way to work and only got this far. Thank goodness I wasn’t in the freeway yet.
Anyway, they revived my car after fixing broken parts and I paid a fair price. I was afraid I was going to have to get a new car but they saved my wallet from that drama.

I started this review with 2 stars and now after realizing that I paid $ 600 for cheap parts and labor, I am changing it to 1 star and updating my pros and cons.
This is my first review in Unilocal and I am unhappy to start with 2 stars. I will keep it short.
Pros:
Good Communication and follow up
Cons:
Charges 300% more for parts compared to an established auto shop.
Labor is expensive compared to other auto shops (this is fine depending on the service, however here it’s not worth)
Fixed only 2 issues out of 4 (Out of the 2 issue fixed, one occurred again)
No warranty for the work, If issue has re-​occurred within weeks, you pay again for inspection.

Don at Mechanic King has worked on my cars for years and I’ve always felt he did quality work at a fair price.

Over 15 years ago a tow truck driver recommended Mechanic King for our car. We have been taking our cars to Don since. They are very professional and reliable. Whenever I have any questions or issues with my cars I call Don. I know he will give me advice I can trust. His recommendations to other providers have always been equally good. I would recommend Mechanic King without reservation.

The Mechanic King really is «King» in my book. My 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX broke down due to something with its timing belt, and so far they are taking care of my vehicle. They have good service and good communication, keeping me posted on what’s going on. So far its been 2 weeks now that I don’t have a car and they help me get a rental so I can go out and about with my business. Thank you Mechanic King!!!

I have been going to Mechanic King for 10 years and Don and team have taken care of 4 vehicles for my son and for me including my 2003 Passat, a Saturn, a 1989 Cadillac and a Ford 150 Truck. Don has consistently provided excellent, fair, and thorough service.
Mechanic King was recommended to me by multiple people and I can see why. Don is reliable, honest, and easy to work with. He gets an outstanding recommendation from me and, given that, I have in turn recommended him to many of my friends, who in turn have recommended him to others. If you are looking for a good mechanic for your car or truck, he’s a great choice.

I started going to Mechanic King because of a friend’s recommendation, and I’ve never been disappointed. They are fast, knowledgeable, and take the time to answer my questions. When I’m short on money they’re very good about breaking down what needs to be done to my car right away and what can wait a few weeks, or months.

My family & I have been coming here for years. Between the 4 of us there have been over 4 different cars from luxury models to trucks, domestic and foreign… this place has handled it all. Amazing service, truthful and to the point. I know that I won’t get crappy parts and if there is a better part that they can use, rather than factory, (i.e. it will last longer, better made, etc.), they call and ask. I have had my car towed here and dropped off numerous times and I know that anytime I take my car in it will be inspected and they won’t take advantage me. I have recommended them to numerous people and haven’t heard a complaint.

This repair shop easily tops as my #1 worst auto repair shop. my car was broken down so I had AAA toll truck drive me to one of trusted auto shop and had dropped off my car here. anyhow, This jerk (the owner) charged me a $ 700 for changing distribution cap and according him one he replaced is better than the genuine Honda parts and therefore it cost more ($ 200 more then genuine Honda part). I tried to argue with him but he won’t budge. basically my car wouldn’t start and he took full advantage my situation. this shop suppose to be AAA approved, I guess that doesn’t mean jack.
Update: Wow two 5 star reviews in one day! what a phony! the owner must of contacted close friends for favor. Funny because soon after Owner replied to my review, two new 5 star review appears (check the dates)… Hmmm. I know one thing… that any non dealer that charge higher that what dealer is charging is a big time rip off b/​c dealers are already rip offs. If you don’t agree with me you could ignore my review.

«No I charged you for a new and updated distributor, distributor cap, rotor, and labor which you authorized prior to us making the repair. The new distributor is an updated unit and is better than the Genuine Honda distributor. «
Can anyone understand how non dealer autoshop can be charging $ 200 more than dealer??? Like I said in my original review, he took full advantage of my situation where my car was not starting and needed to get towed to get anywhere.
