Shear Magic Grooming by Cinda

I moved to the area from the peninsula a couple years ago and had 3 previous groomers plus tried another tri-​valley groomer before finding this place when the other one stopped offering services.
My dogs had a few random bad experiences with an old groomer, and since then they haven’t been fans of the process. No matter who what where they don’t like it.
I read the reviews of this place and although there were a few negative ones, it was worth trying. I know there isn’t a perfect spot.
I told the guy who basically runs it my expectations. My dogs are over 12 year old standard poodles. They are old and high maintenance. They need a lot of tlc and time to get through one of their least favorite activities.
This is the last groomer I will use. We are in it for the long haul. Every experience has been great. If they run late, they call and always try to work with my schedule. They don’t rush and do a lousy job. My dogs are safe. They always always always turn out awesome which isn’t easy considering the breed.
My dogs are my life. Don’t avoid this place based on a few shmucks that were unrealistic and single minded. This place has been an incredible find!

I am really happy that we found such an amazing groomer. I took my cat in to get groomed and he looked and smelled amazing! It is nice to find somewhere that you are comfortable taking your 15 year old cat! I cannot wait to bring my boxer here as well. I highly recommend this place! Great staff and amazing work!

Michael is the best with our two dogs I would not bring them to anyone else. Keep up the good work and thank you for taking such good care of our dogs.

Michael has been grooming our Bichon every 3 – 4 weeks for the past 3 ½ years. We’ve been very pleased with his service, he takes great care of our little guy and seems to genuinely love dogs. We’ve not had any issue with dropping him off in the morning and picking him up at the designated time at the end of the day. There were a couple of times over the past years when staffing issues created a delay, however Michael called and explained the situation and we were able to pick up an hour later than anticipated. We like and appreciate Michael’s care so much that when we travel we board our little guy with he and Cinda at «Country Paws» kennel.
I think the negative reviews reflect staffing challenges faced by small business owners, when staff doesn’t show up or quits the owner unexpectedly assumes all the work which impacts productivity. I believe Michael’s figured out a staffing model that works best for his business so he can consistently provide great service to his customers. We’ve been very pleased and would highly recommend Shear Magic.

Shear Magic is the best grooming establishment around, and the only place to take your beloved pet. Michael runs a tight ship and oversees every animal’s bathing personally. He is a master at interacting with animals. I have taken my dogs and cats to him on a monthly basis for years and could not be more pleased.

The guy seemed very nice but he kept my dog all day (9am-​4pm) which seemed like way too long and he came back so hungry and thirsty. I asked for a long haircut and what I got was a blow out which trimmed feed. He didn’t even cut any of his body hair so within 2 weeks he had dreadlocks all over his body. Not worth my money. I have a goldendoodle.

Well I just wanted to let everyone know I have been going to Shear Magic grooming for years! Michael is one of the sweetest people I know and he is wonderful with dogs! My dog, Stacy LOVES him! He always does a wonderful job with her ! These people posting bad reviews obviously have never really been there! The shop is always clean! No one has ever been rude to me there. I love that place! If you want your dog treated gently and with love take them to Shear Magic Grooming.

Cinda does a great job, since she has been doing it for many years. She knows what she is doing, for sure.
BUT that guy that runs her Pleasanton shop doesn’t have a CLUE! We took our little dog in to be groomed. We have been going there for awhile. He NEVER does even a half-​way descent job. So we finally found another place to REPAIR our dogs hair grooming. He now looks GREAT.
If Cinda would come back, we would come back. But not while she has other people working there that do not know what they are doing!!!

I have to say, Ive grown very leery on what to believe on Unilocal.One thing I know for sure is anyone who posts anything bad about the care they get from Shear Magic has to be paid to do it. Shear Magic is the «ONLY» place I would ever take my two dogs EVER! I know there was a past employee who I’m so glad she is gone (again showing how much the owners care) I wouldn’t have used her again, but like I said she’s gone and the owner is on top of his game. My dogs have never had better care and I go to him every month. Don’t believe everything you read, but I am telling you this place takes the best care ever! Totally Legit!

I’ve been coming here for years with 3 different dogs. Always been a great experience for me and the Dogs. Michael always does a great job! He always listens to what I’m looking for grooming wise !! And more importantly my dogs are relaxed when I pick them up. I highly recommend Shear Magic.

I was confused by this the negative reviews. I was a client several years ago without any issues. I brought our new dog for grooming and they did a wonderful job. Reasonably priced compared to Petsmart.

You know… I was hesitant to write this, but the more I look at my dog’s puppy cut, the more upset I am…
I have used this groomer about 5 times now… Let me first tell you this, every single time after leaving our dog there all day… We show up at the time given to us for pick up and our dog is not ready… The man at the counter ALWAYS says that they called us and left a message to let us know they were running late… We have literally NEVER received such messages from them… Please don’t insult our intelligence by telling us that you did something that you did not do…
The man at the counter every time I’ve ever gone there is soooo nice and that’s probably why I feel guilty writing this… But after this last time we used them within the last 4 weeks… It will be our last…
This last time I dropped my little dog off between 9 – 10 am as instructed… He gave me the same speech he gives every time about how he likes to be able to take his time with them so they feel comfortable blah blah blah, so I was told to pick her up around 5:30. No big deal, it’s like a spa day for her… I asked for a puppy cut, nails trimmed and teeth cleaned…
I showed up at 5:30 on the dot with my 3 year old son after a long day, ready to get my dog and get home. The front counter guy was cutting another dog’s hair and seemed frazzled… He told me he hadn’t even gotten to my dog yet and asked if I could please come back… I was annoyed… But I politely obliged.
I took my son to get some food and showed back up around 6:15. Apparently somewhere in that time frame he did groom my dog… So much for the taking their time thing… She was there ALL DAY in a crate under the front counter! I was charged $ 54 and gave a $ 10 tip, so I paid $ 64 and got the hell out of there. My dog had to go potty so bad and she was soooooo hungry when we got home.
Unfortunately I did not inspect her closely when I picked her up… It is clear that her teeth were definitely not cleaned… And her nails absolutely were not trimmed whatsoever. Completely untouched. And I was charged for these services… She is a Shorkie (shihtzu Yorkie mix) so her hair grows long… Especially her butt and tail hair… This was probably the most important area I needed trimmed… If that area is not properly maintained, poop literally rolls up in the hair and causes a lot of pain for her! Pretty sure neither the tail or potty area were groomed at all…
Her fur is cut all uneven all over. The only part I am pleased with was her face. Oh, she is an indoor only dog and suddenly had fleas… Hmmm… Can’t prove they came from there… But just sayin…
My dog is completely miserable.

If I could give this a negative rating I would. I had taken my 8 yr old Golden in for a simple grooming and nail trim today. I picked my dog up and brought him straight home. I noticed some blood on my tile, looked at my dog and saw that there was a 1 inch cut on his rear paw. It was a deep cut and open and bleeding.
I immediately ran him to my vet. They had to use skin glue to hold his skin together and he’s now on antibiotics!
I can not call them about this because I know myself and will lose my temper and would say horrible things to them. Instead, I will write a letter to let them know how I feel and that they should have told me that they cut my dog. And request that they pay my vet bill. I doubt that will happen but if they do I will updat the review.
Needless to say I will not be returning to this dog groomer again.

First off I just want to say that I have worked in the customer service industry for years, and know how incredibly fickle and petty people can be. I really dislike writing negative reviews, but I am writing this one because I think the business owners should know why people stop using them.
When I first took my dog to the Shear Magic I was very pleased. I had just adopted my pup and was very nervous about the amount of stress she would experience during the whole grooming process. I arrived at the time I was told and was very happy with how the groomer went over everything with me. That was really the reason I kept going back. He took the time to talk me through every step and explained why he liked the dogs to have a chance to settle in before being placed in the tub and groomed. This made sense to me so I didn’t question the pickup time that was 6 hours later. I was told I would receive a call when she was ready which never came (This happened a few more times. Please don’t say you will call then don’t!) When pickup time came my pup looked great, so I figured I had found my groomer. The problem was each subsequent time the quality of the grooming and the customer service went downhill. The man that had so patiently explained his grooming style and the process now hurriedly asked what length before blurting out a pickup time that kept getting later and later each time. The first couple times this happened I assumed they must have been unusually busy and let it go, but I soon realized the reason is they overbook themselves. The final straw was the last time I used them as a groomer. I was told to come pick her up «around 5pm», so I headed over about 5:10pm figuring they needed the extra time. When I walked in the place looked like a tornado had passed through and both groomers looked haggard and grumpy. I walked up to the counter and gave them my dog’s name. First they were confused and said they didn’t know which dog that was which was very concerning, but then after I described her to the groomers the lady promptly says she isn’t ready and I need to come back in an hour. After I start to explain they had told me 5pm and it is now 5:30pm the male groomer injects and says that she is ready. The lady goes in the back and brings her out. The pup starts freaking out and trying to jump out of the lady’s arms to me. She is a dog so she is always happy to see her humans, but I had noticed that each time I went to pick her up she seemed more and more frantic to get out of there. After I ask how she was the lady tells me that she was very difficult to groom especially when it came to the nails. This surprised me because I had always gotten nothing but positive feedback and I have watched her have her nails trimmed many times. The lady then adds that three of her nails were clipped too short and were bleeding. She contributed it to the fact that my pup was so difficult to groom. That was it. Nails trimmed too short are very painful for dogs! Her nails are black so I specifically take her to get her nails trimmed by professionals so they are not trimmed too short. I understand no one is perfect, but three nails in one trip?! I also noticed after I had gotten her home that she had been knicked by the trimmer in a few different places. No wonder she was difficult. They were in such a hurry to finish her up and move onto the next dog they were hurting her. That on top of everything else I had seen and experienced made me realize this place had gone downhill over the past year. Their actions have shown me that they no longer care about the animals and put their profit ahead of what is best for the animals. Either hire more groomers or stop over booking yourself. They have turned into chop shop that only cares about squeezing in as many dogs as possible.

We have been bringing Gizmo here for four years, and five stars is definitely not enough!!! Gizmo loves mike! they love him, and are simply wonderful, and take great care of our boy!

Wow, I don’t know what «Idiot», looked through the windows and saw the entire place but you are lying!!! Shear Magic is unclean, unsanitary and I heard that they had Black mold there as well! Very dangerous and unhealthy! Michael has occasionally, tried to hire people and brings them in as a «test run» promising to pay them $ 10.00 an hour however, they never seem to get that check in the mail. How cleaver free help. What a scam and I haven’t heard anything but complaints! Very sad. Maybe, you should close your doors and refer you clients real groomers like the ones at
Shampooches or straighten up and fly right…

This place was recommended by my dog’s veterinarian. My Coton de Tulear was very matted, and Petsmart would not touch him. They really worked hard on him, and made sure he looked very cute. My only complaint is that he was not ready when he said he would. Next time I’ll call to make sure he is ready when I show up. The price was right, he was happy so he’ll be a regular client.

They asked me to bring my dog in at 9am but hadn’t started to bath or groom her till after 5pm. The owner promised me she would be ready by 4pm and would call. When I hadn’t received a call by 4:30pm I went there. They told me she would be ready at 4:30pm, came back then but was still not ready. She was finally ready after 5pm.
When I complained that my dog has to wait in a cage for 8 hours he (owner) said that the dogs need time to «settle down» when they come in. But 8 hours to settle down??? There are dogs walking around unattended and barking which is hardly conducive to other dogs «settling down».
He didn’t even apologize and said «some days just take longer». He then proceeded to say that places like Petsmart are like a factory. Running down the opposition did not sit well with me especially that his operation is just that — a factory!
He commented that my dog is happy and I said that I was certainly not happy to which he responded «we can’t please everyone». Not a very professional way to handle a complaint. He had no desire to correct the situation but rather exacerbated it with his attitude.
I fail to see the attraction to this establishment but again, read the filtered reviews for a better representation of this business.

We have been taking our English Cockers to Shear Magic for over 12 years. Cinda and Michael are friendly, loving and professional! We highly recommend them. They also have a Knightsen location where they board and groom. Our boys love it there. If you need to kennel your four legged friends you can’t do better than Country Paws/​Sheat Magic in Knightsen. :-)

WOW! My review is honest & was mysteriously «filtered» while my other reviews remained. Unilocal has lost a lot of credibility with me!
When Cinda was running this place it was excellent, but now her husband has taken over and the quality has truly fallen! Cinda, you need to get back and straighten up the business you built! There seems to be a huge turn over in the groomers. The last time we had our dog groomed there will be the last and I have being using this groomer for at least 15 years.
The five star rating on Unilocal is questionable, because all of the one star reviews (SEVEN) have been filtered out. Now, I know to always read these filtered reviews and not trust the ratings. Hopefully my review won’t be filtered (check out the one star reviews that have been filtered)! Who has the ability to filter these reviews?
Our dog was groomed in late June and she looks horrible! She was trimmed unevenly and started licking her fur the evening she returned. I don’t know whether she picked up some sort of skin condition, but I have an appointment tomorrow at the vet. BEWARE!
