History

Established in 1978.

Stephen P. Merritt, DDS has lived and practice dentistry in the Pleasanton area for over thirty years. Dr. Merritt is a graduate of UCLA and earned an Advanced Certificate in Hospital Dentistry and Family Practice. Kara S. Yu, DMD joined the dental practice as our associate dentist. Dr. Yu graduated from Nova Southeastern University and was awarded by the American Association of Endodontics for her skills in root canal therapy. Both doctors have received numerous awards and are highly trained in the dental field.

All clinical staff members are Registered Dental Hygienists, Registered Dental Assistants. Our front office staff is experienced in the dental field to handle any questions you may have regarding your dental treatment. We focus on family dentistry and new patients are always welcome!

Jayette has over thirty years of dental management experience. She has owned an ACE Hardward Store, Inc. JLW Construction Co. (with her husband John), she received an award from the American Academy of Gnathologic Orthopedics and holds an active California Real Estate Lic. She is proud to work with an excellent staff who has many years of combined dental experience to serve the needs of the community. We welcome all new patients into our dental practice.

Absolutely the best medical staff! Why not 5 stars? Dr. Merritt is a fantastic dentist; probably the best you will get in the area. His surgical experience makes him precise and all around skillful. However, in my opinion he is far out of touch with the lower income bracket of his community; making him inefficient at guiding patients through the path to health. If you want a disconnected «fixer» kind of guy to take care of you, Dr Merritt and his amazing staff will be your best bet.

Dr. Merritt is the best dentist ever! I have been seeing him for years now and have always gotten the best results. His entire staff are kind, professional and genuinely care about you and the results of your visits. He has the most gentle hygienist’s on his staff and I see Rosanna every 3 months for my cleanings.
He has done my crowns beautifully with porcelain margins (no metal band showing to make you look like a pirate.) I recently had to have my very first root canal ever, and I was very nervous. Dr. Merritt and his assistant Amber made me feel at ease and everything was absolutely fine.
I highly recommend Dr. Merritt to anyone looking for a great dentist. He thoroughly examines your teeth & gums and then explains everything before any procedures are done. His staff will give you a detailed breakdown of all costs, including what your insurance will cover.
His office is super clean, modern and very high-tech. To top it all off, Dr. Merritt is really funny with a decent arsenal of jokes to keep you entertained and your anxiety at bay. If you’re looking for a spectacular dentist, look no further than Dr. Stephen Merritt. Your search his over!

Good dentist! He is very thorough during routine examinations, running x-rays, gum inspections, etc. He is also quite personable, and is willing to answer questions you have regarding your dental problems. I also found him to be more patient that most dentists. What I admired most about him is the advice he gives his patients on different ways to improve your dental health, particularly ones you would not here from ordinary dentists (reducing stress, grinding, diet, etc).

Stephen P Merritt DDS was recommended by a fellow coworker. I was having issues with my previous dentist and wanted a change. I could not say enough about this dentist. Comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff, and almost painless! Need to go back for a deep cleaning, but having problems with getting my insurance company to respond. The staff keeps me updated with phone calls to let me know they haven’t forgotten about me.

I have been going to Dr. Merritt for 8 years now. I started seeing him because my husband, boyfriend at the time, and many of his co-workers recommended him. At this time my husband, brother and father also see Dr. Merritt. He is a fantastic dentist. He and his office staff are kind, professional and a pleasure to be around. I highly recommend Dr. Merritt’s office if you are looking for a top noch dentist!

I agree with the other reviewers… if you need a dentist in Pleasanton this is the place to go.
Dr Merritt is awesome… does the work that needs to be done and does it well But more importantly is honest about what needs … and doesn’t need … to be done. Much appreciated.
The staff overall is great and very helpful… and Rossana Hebron is probably the best hygienist I’ve been to. In all honesty, she has put me on a «program» of cleanings (both what I do at home and what she does in the office) that has addressed a number of problems that I’ve had with my gums. And with all this, she has probably helped me avoid the need for periodontal surgery! Great attitude and talent… again very much appreciated.

I had a great experience seeing Dr. Yu and I highly recommend her! I went to see her for a deep cleaning and some cavities. She was very gentle and kind. I was really afraid before I went in because I have had bad experiences with other dentists. With Dr. Yu, I felt comfortable because she explained the procedure to me and made me feel safe. I generally flinch a lot and have a low pain tolerance but she was very patient with me. Recovery after the procedure was less painful and shorter than I anticipated. I really believe that she has magic hands! I will definitely be going back to see her for all my future dental issues (which I have a lot of of!)

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Merritt’s for more than 20 years, though not continuously. Some years ago, I changed dentists because of a change in my insurance. After just two visits with the other doctor, I came back to Dr. Merritt, even though it was at my own expense. His work and (especially) his staff made the expense worth it! Today, I have no insurance issues as Dr. Merritt’s office accepts a very wide range of insurance coverage.
Dr. Merritt and his excellent staff have, over the years, worked some minor miracles for me. Rosanna, my hygienist in Dr. Merritt’s office, has been great at motivating (and NOT browbeating) me to excellent dental health.
There’s no other dentists’s office that I would even consider. If you live anywhere within a 20-mile radius of Dr. Merritt’s office then it is, in my opinion, well worth the drive to be a happy and comfortable patient.
