Ernie’s Restaurant

I truly believe that this place is for the over 80 crowd, it really has the appeal of a nursing home, the tables are not overly clean and there was dust all over the fake flowers, which my daughter pointed out. They are actually quite pricey for a bar pizza, while the pizza were pretty good, its a bit much for a pizza that size. Uninspired drink selection.

By far my favorite restaurant in Plymouth for all ages. Good unpretentious New England atmosphere and amazing food. Pizza is unique and excellent — my kids says it’s the best in U.S. Scrod is as good as any waterfront place. Italian specialties great. Service is unphony and always fine.

The outside is no indication of atmosphere or food on inside. As soon as I walked in I thought I had made a mistake. The rest if the visit confirmed this. I felt like I had walked into the cafeteria of a nursing home. Tables had numerous ads printed on them giving it a cheap feel. The menu made me think I was in a giant diner, but the bill was $ 60 for two people and the waitress forgot the surf part of our surf and turf! I was happy when we finally left.

Me and my boyfriend decided to stop by here on our way back from waterfront drive the other day. We both had just gotten out of work and were very hungry, we passed this and turned around to eat here (he had said he ate here before and thought it might have been good he couldnt remember.). The first thought that popped into my head was about how outdated the place was. Second was «really?» as i stared at the hostess sitting away from her post on her cell phone. So we seated ourselves. The waitress we had was probably in her late 60s. She was nice but warned us that she was new, and that we were her first table. My boyfriend ordered us two drinks and a clam chowder and tortillini soup. The clam chowder was decent. but the other soup was truly horrible. It tasted like over salted yellow water and the pasta was dried out on the inside and discolored. The next thing we ordered was the cheese pizza. Although the taste was fairly good there was puddles of grease all over each piece.
lets just say this is defiantly the first and last time I plan to go here. But i do know a lot of people who enjoy it. A lot of north plymouth regulars dine here often.
The bar seemed busy too and I hear they make killer drinks.

Ernie’s has been around a long time and I think this is the first time I have been here in over 25 years. My dad and I went for lunch the other day. He even indicated my mom and him had stopped coming several years ago when they were not honoring their discount for seniors on Sundays. Any way, we decided to try it again.
As others have written it does feel old when you walk in and it seems to cater to an older clientele. A very large restaurant and my understanding is that the people of Plymouth still love this place. I must say I was completely unimpressed.
The hostess appeared to not be too interested in her position by her greetings. At one point she was had people waiting at the entrance, but it did not seem to phase her.
Our service was terrible. The server walked by our table with our drinks and then said, I forgot where you were sitting. I thought oh boy. Then we placed our order and she said do you want bread and butter? I said sure. We NEVER got it. I had to remind her to bring sweetener for my dad’s iced tea (they don’t leave on table as they do in most restaurants).
My dad ordered the shepherds pie and I ordered the ravioli with meat sauce. The shepherds pie was seasoned with too much salt and pepper and burnt. I have had shepherds pie before and the taste was not good. My father did not even bother to eat it all and then did not want a doggie bag because it was not good. We mentioned it to the server and she said yeah it looks burnt I’ll tell the kitchen.
I had the ravioli and meat sauce. It was not too bad, but perhaps I was disappointed because my dad was disappointed with his meal.
It will be a long time before I try this restaurant again. My dad did not sound like he would be going back soon either. There are many restaurants around Plymouth and I would rather spend my money in one of them.

I walk in. I get the impression of a dining room in an assisted living complex right away. It smelled old, It looks like it was the dining room that time forgot. Most of the patrons there were elderly. Clearly it hasn’t changed much in the 40 odd years they boast about. The food was nothing more than average. My dish was rather bland. I spiced it up with red pepper and cheese. I sampled the three other peoples dishes that were with me. Nothing impressive. Overall I’d say pass. There are way too many restaurants with a «wow factor» you can choose from. Leave this to the customers whom have been returning over the 40+ years, stuck in that time warp. Bingo anyone?

I had the clam chowder and the amazing barbecue chicken pizza which has a great sweet sauce and I added red onions to. It was quite a treat to have.
This restaurant has been in business under the same family since 1945. While the prices are a bit on the high end, the quality of presentation is excellent. An exceptional spot.

We went there for the first time the other night and had a really nice time. We both got bar pizza and it wasn’t great — a little greasy — but it was pretty good. Our waitress was lovely and really on top of things. She didn’t ask if we needed refills on our sodas just brought one over. We weren’t rushed, the music was soft so we could hear each other talk, and everything came out pretty quickly.

Good Stuff. great pizza and comfort food. Tuesday night is 2 pizzas for 1 night. Wednesday, Italian Night. Saturday, Prime Rib. relaxing atmosphere. pleasant staff. sometimes crowded, but always able to get a table. recommend if you’re in the mood for comfort food and a relaxing atmosphere.

My wife and I decided to take the top down and drive to Plymouth on this beautiful afternoon. Hoping to eat on the waterfront around 3:00 but we had trouble finding parking and decided we didn’t want he hassle of a wait at this time of day (lines out every door). Why not stop at Ernie’s on the way home? I had never been but she had. Although the place is very clean it is a time warp to the 80’s. the food coming out around us looked fantastic. Our choices just didn’t work out. The chowder was good but my stuffed quahog even though very large and only $ 4.00 just didn’t agree with my taste buds. My wife had the Thanksgiving sandwich and felt the same way, it looked great but the taste wasn’t for her. Good portions at very good prices but I probably will not go back even though I want to like it.

A huge restaurant serving good bar food and more. Pizzas were very good –I had jalapenos, linguica and mushrooms on mine-​Delicious. As someone stated, service is hit or miss. We spun the wheel and had dinner on a «miss» night. Slow service, huge unattended stretches, I ordered a cup of chowder to start my meal. It never came out. When the pizzas and dinners came out with no chowder, I asked her to cancel the order. She gave me some ridiculous story about how they had run out of chowder and were making a new batch. Um, excuse me, who in the world orders soup and doesn: t want it as an appetizer? Anyway, we weren’t there super late, we were there 7:00 on a Saturday, shouldn’t your soups be all made simmering away in a cauldron?
Food was 4 stars (the pizza was great), service was a 1 star. I’ll give them a 3 star rating based on the hilarious notes on the back of the menu (what will happen to misbehaving unattended children, and pointers on tipping for foreigners)…

After running a class in Plymouth, we stopped here for a late lunch/​early dinner. The clam plate was very good as well as my Wife’s «catch of the day» (either haddock or scrod, I don’t recall which). Service was very good as well.

Their PIZZA is the best! Service is hit or miss but you cannot go wrong with takeout pizzas from Ernies.

Plan on spending some time here its sort of slow. The pizza is great for single size bar pizza. This place usally gets voted the best restaurant in North Plymouth but its more of a tradition of the neighborhood people who can walk there. The food is ok not outstanding but kind of pricey for what you get. If your going to eat in N. Plymouth it is the best in the area. Stick to the pizza you’ll enjoy it.

I also grew up with Ernie’s pizza (usually ordered on Sunday night) and it is still, to this day, my favorite linguica pizza ever! I live in Brighton now and can’t even find a place that knows what lingiuca is… so this is where i get my occasional (greasy, yet delicious) fix.
I honestly can’t comment on most of their menu because I usually just get pizza, but the few items I have ordered were always good.
Ernie’s is what it is… nostalgic. I wouldn’t go here for a date, unless you want to hang out with the… er…older crowd. I think Ernie’s is best done by takeout. Especially for just pizza. And yes, I too love Tuesdays, for the pizza value!

Great pizza! Even our son-​in-​law from Napoli, Italy love Ernie’s pizza.
Tuesday offers two for one.
Good fish, etc. Good pours of good beer. Plenty of parking in back. Good service.
Not a snooty place to eat.

I’ve only been here once, but it was a pretty good experience, especially considering it was in a group of about 15. The servers were unfazed by the number, with all the meals coming out together and correct. The food itself was really good, although I didn’t try their pizza, which is their claim to fame (their words).
There are other places I’d go before I came here again, but if I needed something quick and didn’t feel like driving (it’s close to my gf’s place), I’d definitely hit it up.

The pizza here is actually pretty alright… especially on 2-​pizza-​for-​1 Tuesdays. I grew up on Ernie’s pizza, so I’m not sure if it’s the actual quality or the nostalgia that makes it comfort food to me… I may be a bit bias. All I know is that the fried eggplant/​artichoke heart and fresh tomato/​garlic pizzas that I sampled last night hit the spot… and were very cheap.
The service was slow (yet very friendly) and the beer was a bit flat, but it was still an enjoyable experience food-​wise. Word of warning though: if you’re going on a Tuesday for the pizza deal, the place is overrun with teens… generally well-​behaved teens, but bountifully en masse.

Ok three of those stars are purely for the sentimental value that Ernie’s carries for me. Only two are for the food.
I spent my childhood summers in Plymouth (hell, I still do) along with many members of my huge, convoluted clan of an extended family. Once everyone had made it to Plymouth for the summer, we would all pile into cars and head over to Ernie’s for dinner. The place has such a distinctive smell, the pink placemats never change, and the same waitresses have probably been there since 1970. But enough of my nostalgic ramblings, lets get to the food…
Most people would be unimpressed by the food, but because I have so many happy memories associated with it, it always tastes great. This being Plymouth, the seafood is excellent, and the pizza has won «best of» awards for as long as I can remember. Oh, and their mashed potatoes are made fresh and from scratch daily, and are TO DIE FOR.
