Lil Newton’s Nest

If I could give this place no stars, I would. The list of terrible things that go on there is too long to put into a review. I have known at least 5 employees personally who couldn’t wait to quit. The directors couldn’t direct traffic on a dirt road let alone direct a daycare. The staff have had one father arrested on ridiculous suspicion of cold abuse. I implore you, please find an alternative for childcare. Their little lives depend on it.

I think the two one-​star reviews are being way too hard on this place. I just took a tour with Nicole to enroll my infant and it looked fine. Not as glamorous as New Horizons or Kindercare or montessori schools, but those are $ 125 more per WEEK or $ 500/​month which is an insane amount of money.
Frankly, my expectations going in were pretty low with the «too good to be true» infant rate they charge of $ 284/​week for 5 days a week. But, my husband and I ended up being pleasantly surprised to the point that we are going to choose this place (after looking at all kinds of centers and in-​home options).
The second reviewer sounds like a snob. God forbid they use cloth diapers or the office doesn’t look perfect. That’s how they keep tuition low!!! As long as the kids are taken care of, happy, and learning is what is important. And, from what I saw, the kids looked happy and the place looked clean. The music didn’t bother me. Seems like it would be fun for the kids. I didn’t see this myself, but realistically I can see the teachers texting too much (they are young), but how do you know they don’t do that at other centers as well?
i will see how infant care goes and re-​assess whether or not to go somewhere else for toddler care at that point. But, for infant care, I think it looks great.

My husband and I went on a tour of this center and were absolutely appalled at how things were operated. Our first impression was the «office» were were brought into. Empty cardboard boxes of diapers and other supplies were strewn about and we were asked to sit down on folding chairs in front of a very messy desk. This is not the first impression I would like parents to see if I was running a business. The director had no paperwork or information to provide us to bring home to look over. No information about tuition rates, hours of operation, daily schedules, etc.
Next we began our tour in the infant room. One infant teacher walked by us reeking of cigarette smoke. That was our second bad impression. The teachers had music playing which was pop music that was way too loud for little babies. They use cloth diapers which to me sounds incredibly unsanitary.
Next we toured the toddler classroom. The one positive thing was that all the little ones looked very happy. When I asked about potty training, the director told me that they start in this classroom. I asked where the bathrooms were and she said they use potty chairs. I was FLOORED! You have little kids using potty chairs strewn about the classroom? I could not believe that! Where is the dignity of allowing a child to use the bathroom? I know they are only two years old but they shouldn’t have to pee on a potty chair in the middle of the classroom. I taught preschool for several years and could never imagine telling parents that their children will have to use the bathroom in a potty chair. Absolutely disgusting!
A few other things that bothered me was the playground — old, shabby and not safely designed. The hallways were dirty and the teachers were poorly dressed. Some were wearing sweatpants while others had shirts on that were not appropriate for children with their breasts hanging out. If you want to present yourself as a professional school and claim that «Brilliance is Guaranteed» then you should make sure your staff looks professional. I could never imagine going to work in sweatpants. I teach full time and know what it is like to work with children, get messy, and sit on the floor. However I still dress professionally and present myself in a professional manner.
Don’t even bother taking the time to tour this center.

After spending a day here as a substitute teacher, I was very sure I would never bring my kids here or recommend it to anyone. In one of the infant/​toddler rooms, the teacher kept yelling at the kids as they crossed this imaginary line she had determined from hard wood to carpet flooring. How the kids were supposed to know that was not okay, I have no idea. But she yelled every time they crossed it… all day. The employees were texting on their phones way too often. As they gave tours to two groups of prospective parents, they were extremely cheery and interacted with the children. Upon the parents leaving, the infant/​toddler teacher I worked with resumed texting. Multiple times I was left alone with these kids, and unfortunately, I was left alone with far more than is permitted per adult. If you are looking into this daycare, please consider researching it more, because unfortunately infants and toddlers can’t tell you how their day really went.

We were previously in an in home daycare and were looking for more of a structured preschool program as my daughter was getting older. However, we also had an infant son that we needed care for as well. With early working hours, our choices are often limited. In our search, we came across an intriguing ad for Lil Newton’s Nest which would soon be opening in our area. We loved that the program was all-​inclusive (including wipes, diapers, formula (if needed), and all food). We also loved the innovative curriculum program created and the fact that the school was located in an actual school building with a secure entrance. It all seemed too good to be true because the prices were also very affordable for a center!
Now, over a year later, we know that the program and care provided is excellent. LNN does a great job communicating with parents and they are not afraid to try new things. We are very pleased with our choice to send our children there and our children are both very happy — which is the most important thing of all!
