Massasoit Statue

The Statue of Massasoit overlooking Plymouth Rock, Cape Cod Bay and Plymouth Bay is grand. What an extremely physically fit looking man. The first thing that came to my mind, was what all would happen from the direction on the water he was looking? What diseases would arrive from where the sun rises?
Like smallpox, measles, etc. That’s what killed a lot of the people that lived on this part of North America. In fact the same thing happened to Inca natives in South America as well as in now Mexico and Central America.
All American now countries from Canada, US (Alaska formerly USSR) down to the bottom of Cape Horn, everyone was effected by never before encountered new diseases once transportation increased and infected previously protected climates surrounded by salt water itself. In fact even China received rodents from this newly reachable continent. Japan got cholera. Beyond anything effected by religion it was disease that changed the face of global populations.
Imagine if the sachem of the Wampanoag people had not been so welcoming and declared war killing the initial pilgrims, my how history would be different. But they might have still died by disease.
I felt compassion for him and his people that were if appearance is correct, doing quite well on their own.
