St Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church

My husband, Mark, and I have been to a lot of churches (both Lutheran and non-​Lutheran) in our lives but St. Philip the Deacon in Plymouth, MN, is by far our favorite. The services are very interesting (if not entertaining at times) and the sermons always pertain to day-​to-​day life. (Unlike the fire and brimstone services I grew up with as a child!) I also really like the culture of the church and especially like the four pastors on staff. My husband and I also appreciate the children’s sermons, choir/​music and the wide range in age of church goers.
As for the church building itself, it is very large and I LOVE the stain glass windows. In the Spring, Summer and Fall, there are lots of plantings of flowers around the exterior of the church. I personally love the brick exterior of the church. I would actually say that St. Philip has nice «curb appeal!» St. Philip’s also has their hand in a lot of community activities, volunteering, food donations, etc. I personally have never seen a church this involved in community giving. I highly recommend this church for anyone looking for a new church home.

We have found this is a warm and friendly church home, especially considering how large the congregation is. Our family has always felt welcome, and there are opportunities for everyone to give of their time and talents here.
This church puts its money where it counts: providing shelter, food, clothing, and clean water for people who don’t have it. This is a friendly church in the western suburbs, vibrant youth and family activities, and a good music program.

Is it wrong to Unilocal a church you grew up at? What if you are an A?
As a nonreligious person I look at this stuff differently. The building is ugly. If I’m forced to be in a church, I’d prefer to be in a pretty one. What’s wrong with the Lutheran’s? Seriously.
My sister and I refer to this place as the temple of doom. Go in the main room and you can see why. Perhaps it’s the Midwestern sensibility that compels them to add on and not beautify it.
Also, when younger I remember my parents getting a visit from the pastor at their new home where he «assessed» the finances to tell them what he expected from them. If there was a god, would that be one of his front men? I say no.
