Lingonberry Farm

What a gem! We drove to an easy to find entrance on highway 1. At night there are little lights on the small sign that make it really easy to find. The farm is a large house with a guest wing decorated with swedish objects. There is a common area on the first floor that has everything you could possibly need for a quick breakfast before exploring the pastoral trails nearby. The small farm is charming. There is a small garden, fruit trees, alpacas, sheep, and several outside cats. The neighbors have horses and cows, and the green hills divided by various types of fences belong in a painting. Our spotless and spacious room had a small balcony overlooking the view described above. At night the darkness is so complete we could see satellites and shooting stars. This little BnB can boast of one of the quietest environments a person could ever wish for. That, and the very comfortable bed, makes for very sound sleep. Unless the other guests decide to hang out in the common area. But even then, everyone was respectful of the quiet time, which is ten pm. We plan to return later this year.

The breakfast is discontinued so it’s more like a hotel then a family style b&b. It’s run more like a hotel as well. But the room was large and if you like Swedish décor this is your place

If you’ve never been to a B&B before, you would probably love this place. If you like spartan, you will love this place. The farmhouse is charming and the grounds are well tended. I’ve been to about 10 B&B’s and this has been the worst. The breakfast is very simple (did I mention spartan?) and we didn’t feel any love from the innkeeper.
This Swedish B&B has 3 guest rooms. The Dalarna room is very spacious (and spartan) for a couple and a baby. They do suggest that you bring a crib, they will charge you for a mattress if it is damaged by the baby (meaning poop, pee, etc). You have to request a TV and a cute old guy will come and put a 12 inch flat-​screen in your room. It seemed like he was struggling to put the all the cords together, he was mumbling something and I didn’t understand what he said about the cable channels. I don’t know why they don’t just leave the TVs in the rooms, it seems like a hassle for the old man. He’s the only one who could do it too, the lady innkeeper will not do it! There is a small private patio outside, too bad the seats were dusty and had cobwebs. The bathroom must be for tall Swedish people because I could only see my forehead when I looked in the mirror. If you’re 5 foot like me, make sure you bring a stool!
The weekday breakfast was lame. There was only one other couple with us that week. On day 1, we had muffins (that was excellent, by that way), granola, berries, weird crackers, and a tiny plate of very thin slices of cucumber, tomato, and cheese. On day 2, we had scones, granola, cantaloupe, watermelon, the same weird crackers, and again thin slices of cucumber, tomato, and cheese. There were only 2 pieces of watermelon and 2 pieces of cantaloupe so we asked for more. The innkeeper said they didn’t have anymore watermelon but gave us 2 small pieces of cantaloupe. Really? Just 2??? How sad.
It seemed as if the innkeeper didn’t like having guests or she’s just angry. We asked for ice and she said, «What for?» We asked for extra washcloths since we were there for 3 days and she said, «Oh you you didn’t prepare for the baby?» I asked for another bath towel and she was obviously irritated. She knocked on the door 10 minutes before the checkout time and angrily reminded us that check out time was at 11:00. I asked if we could stay for ½ an hour because my baby was still sleeping and she said, «No, you’re baby has to sleep in the car. I have the cleaners here, they have to clean now.» Then she gave me a long lecture about check out times but I tuned out. What a cold-​hearted woman!!! The cleaners weren’t even done with the other rooms, why couldn’t we stay until they were ready for our room!!!
I would recommend this place because the farmhouse is lovely. If you don’t mind a small, spartan breakfast then this place is great! But I’m warning you, the innkeeper doesn’t want to be bothered by paying customers. Don’t ask for anything and you’ll be fine!

came to point reyes for a weekend getaway relaxation extravaganza, and i left with such great memories. we roll into the bed and breakfast late on a thurs night. the place is silent, and we can barely see the sign that instructs us to turn into the path.
the house is impeccably clean, with nice little treats for guests in the dining area. we helped ourselves to some port and settled in for the night. our room was the oland, which is either two twins or a king (with a converter). though the converter was ultimately fine, you could still feel a slight bump in the middle of the bed where the two twins came together. really, it was not a huge deal — but if you have the choice, i’d choose one of the other rooms for ultimate sleeping comfort.
the sheets and pillows and comforter were amazing. i never wanted to leave. yes, it’s true that the beds are not made for consecutive night stays. however, this wasn’t really surprising to me. though this was my first experience, i expected staying in a bed and breakfast to resemble staying in someone’s home. yes, there may be some extra rules — but you are treated to some additional perks, such as delicious meals and hospitality beyond what you’d expect at a regular hotel.
the breakfasts were delicious. friday morning (non-​weekend breakfast) was more continental, with fruit, toast, homemade granola and milk, juice, coffee, and a wonderful fresh out of the oven strawberry bread pudding (of sorts). on saturday morning, there was a buffet of eggs, sausages, cereal, toast, cheese, pickled herring, some raw vegetables. we were definitely well fed for our long hikes through the day.
there is a refrigerator in case you want to bring celebratory beverages and/​or snacks to store for day activities. additionally, the nelsons allowed us to borrow binoculars for our 11 mile hike the next day. they might be quiet people, but i didn’t construe their reticence as a lack of friendliness.
i loved our stay at this quaint, quiet little swedish stye bed and breakfast. don’t forget to chase the cat around outside and go feed the alpacas!

First the nice things: lovely rooms with a good breakfast.
But that is pretty much it — there is no service, in fact the innkeeper/​owner is absent most of the time (no one at the desk for about 90% of the day) and when you DO see her, she barely hides her irritation at having to help you at all. We felt like unwanted guests rather than cherished customers, and were glad to leave. Other services were also absent — the beds weren’t made, rooms not cleaned, there were notes all over the place with rules (no shoes, no cups on tablecloths, no kleenex in toilet) all of which were designed to make life easier for the inn-​keeper. No rules were available for the benefit of the guest at all. The experience of a B&B where the innkeeper guides you towards activities, local treasures and insider information and a friendly warm demeanor is entirely absent from this place. Stay away.

This place is so nice! Clean and airy with amazing views. I loved the animals and overall peaceful feeling here. The room was amazing and the bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. LITERALLY. My girlfriend and I stayed here a few nights in January and fell in love with the place. At night we would hang by the fire in the lounge downstairs reading books and drinking wine. The room was spotless and the breakfast was unique and fresh. The Nelsons were so helpful and welcoming. The location is great and there’s much to do during the day if you enjoy the outdoors. Overall we had a great experience here and highly recommend!

Nice clean room, very good breakfast. Good hiking/​birding trail nearby. Hostess helpful, but reserved in a good way.

My wife and I stayed at the Lingonberry Farm for 1 nite in September. We could not have been happier. Its location is just a 5 minute drive from the small town of Point Reyes with its restaurants and markets, yet secluded in a very scenic setting. It was also central to the sites that Point Reyes is known for. Sue and John Nelson are the proud and experienced owners of the B & B, a very well kept farm house with a Swedish theme reflecting John’s ancestry. Shoes are to be left at the door to protect the beautiful wood floors; slippers are available. There are 7 resident Alpacas and two Icelandic sheep that greet the guests and add to the character of the B & B. There are only three guest rooms: ours was the «Skane», a large bright room with terrace overlooking the scenic Point Reyes countryside. The bathroom was good size with nice shower and high quality towels. A bottle of port is set out for guests who prefer an evening cordial. We enjoyed the room so much, we opted to venture into town for a bottle of wine and ordered take out from Sellina’s, taking in the vistas from our terrace. All the guest rooms had free Wi-​Fi but no TV (not an issue). The room was meticulous. Breakfast was more than ample and served in a homey, dining area. The food was a highlight and had a Swedish touch: juice, coffee, fresh berry fruit cup, Swedish pancakes, (light and crêpe like), chicken sausage, cheese and fruit tray.
In our many travels here and abroad, we consider this a top stay. We paid $ 145 for the nite; a real find. With only three guest rooms, book early.

I would highly recommend staying at the Lingonberry Farm B&B. The pictures on their website were what made me decide to book a few nights there, and when we got there I found out that it was even more lovely than the pictures could convey. We stayed in the Dalarna room, which was incredibly spacious, beautifully decorated and squeaky-​clean.
The B&B owners, John and Susan Nelson were very friendly and welcoming. Their gardens are gorgeous. We stayed 2 nights and the breakfasts were wonderful. The fresh berries from their garden really added to the yummy experience. The coffee was great as was everything else! I’m looking forward to returning to visit and try out another room.
Point Reyes is a beautiful location — plenty of things to do for those (like my husband and me) that enjoy hiking and biking and appreciating the natural beauty of the area.

Recently stayed at this quaint inn right outside of Point Reyes Station. The farmhouse is charming and the garden and grounds are well tended. This B& B is very clean and the décor is simple yet tasteful. Breakfast offered a nice spread with savory and sweet options. The coffee was good.
The only thing that was «off» was the owner. Before we arrived she had called saying that we had to be there before 5pm because they were going out. On check-​out day (11am checkout) she knocked on the door at 10:58am and inpatiently reminded us that checkout was at 11am. She made us feel as if we were an inconvenience and «in the way» instead of welcomed. We had little interaction with her after we checked-​in which turned out to be a good thing. We would most likely not return. If you want feel special then you might consider somewhere else.

My wife and I spent our 32^nd anniversary here and loved it! We stayed in the Skane Room with a great view of meadows and dairy cows. The bird life around the farm is energetic and lively at all daylight hours. The B & B is immaculate, thanks to the attention given by the owners, Susan and John. You can eat off the floor anywhere in the B & B. Their coffee, blended by John, is excellent with a mild taste, without bitterness whatsoever. This pleased my wife. Breakfasts, always Swedish, were homemade, bountiful and tasty. Their alpaca herd is stand-​offish but photogenic. It turned out to be a most restful and quiet time for us. The price is very reasonable for the value offered. We took full advantage of the location to explore south to Point Reyes (and, if you can find it, secretive Bolinas) and north to Tomales Bay. When you drive up, it looks like a large barn. Then, you find the electric-​eye automatic gate for the car park, enter the B & B and see the sleek Swedish décor, which was carefully studied in countless books (found in the dining room) and a trip to Sweden by the Nelsons (owners). We would definitely go back again if we return to West Marin.

I was so happy we got to spend our 5^th year anniversary here. The Nelsons are the sweetest couple and really know how to be great hosts. The scenery from our room was breath taking. My fiancé is half Swedish and it was delightful to have brought him to a Swedish home. I loved the candy they would leave on our pillows. I seriously wanted to take a box home with me. The breakfast that was served was very good and very traditional. They have a cat on the premises that was friendly and we got to play with her/​him for awhile.
It really was a breath of fresh air staying at this B&B. The only problem we had were the beetles that invaded our room. We visited in August and supposedly these beetles come out in that time of the year. Mr. Nelson was very helpful and killed most of them for us. We received a discount because of the inconvenience. Nonetheless I would go back and stay here again.

We spent three nights here mid-​week a couple of weeks ago. I don’t know what the Swedish equivalent of Anglophile is, but the Nelsons have a fascination with all things Swedish (Mr. Nelson’s grandfather came from Sweden, and they have visited many times.) They have opened a very Swedish B & B. We too stayed in the Skne room, and since that’s the part of Sweden we’ve lived in, we wanted to give it a test.
We had a WONDERFUL experience. First, we were lucky and had great weather. The room was very pretty and the bed was very comfortable, with thick duvets we didn’t need to use. The Nelsons were full of helpful information on the area, and were great to talk with. The place is decorated with a Scandinavian aesthetic (in their family area as well as the guest areas) and this is clearly a labor of love for them. If you are familiar with Carl Larsson’s paintings, you will feel like you’ve stepped into his home when you enter the breakfast room. (I would like to know why, when I hang posters, prints and needlework from Sweden, they look kind of tacky, but in this B & B, they look terrific? Similarly, when I get furniture from IKEA, it screams IKEA, but here it totally works. But I digress.)
The Swedish breakfast incorporated the best of California as well, which meant we had freshly-​picked berries every morning, freshly-​baked muffins, pancakes or pastries, eggs in some form, yummy sausages, crisp breads and crackers, cheese, and fresh jam. (The herring is optional!) The food kept coming as long as anyone was hungry. They advertise that they will meet special dietary requirements with notice. There is a fridge in the breakfast area for guests, which we found helpful.
You are welcome to tour their gardens and make friends with the alpacas, ducks, and cats. (I will confess I stole a fresh berry or two!) Mrs. Nelson’s gardens are beautiful.
A caveat or two: the Skne room is on the second floor, and the stairs are steep for anyone who has difficulty managing stairs or schlepping luggage up said stairs. You are asked to remove your shoes before entering, so you might want to wear some kind of slip-​ons. It got a little tedious to keep lacing running shoes every time I stepped outside. But I understand– it keeps the dirt outside and most Swedes do it at home. We found out at the end of our stay that we could have requested a TV. I will if we stay there again: Point Reyes and surrounding communities seem to roll up the sidewalks at sundown (yeah, I know: «no TV» is probably part of a true B & B experience, and if we were avid hikers or cyclists we would have been ready for bed, but we’re not, so… we read a lot.) Although we were invited to use the breakfast room to read or talk, everyone seemed to go to their respective rooms after coming back from dinner and we were trying not to disturb anyone else, so we too went back to our room.
The price midweek was $ 140 for the two of us, I think. Quite reasonable for the value (although a real splurge for us!) We will definitely return.
