Sopaipilla Factory

So glad this place was recommended to us. Loved the stuffed sopapilla with ground beef and green chile. Everyone in my party cleared their plates. The sopas are thick, soft, and huge, delicious with honey

Flautas were ok. Hot. El Rancho came with chile relleno and a chalupa. El rancho food was cold. They brought me a new plate. Warmer. However the chile relleno is clearly reheated and not fried fresh. Yuck. Sopapillas tasted like grease. Salsa and chips cost extra. Salsa tastes like a jar

Had the stuffed chicken and vegetables sopaipilla with green chile. It was delicious! Also the meal came with a complimentary sopaipilla for dessert with butter and honey. Service was excellent friendly and quick service.

One of the reasons I totally love this state is because it’s just so random, man. On the outskirts of Taos there’s an earthship community that lives completely off the grid, Google it. There’s a Benedictine monastery near Abiquiu that will put you up for the night, and they happen to brew incredible authentic Belgian ale. Wanton artists abound in the badlands, incredibly talented people who just want to create in the void. Ghost towns named Shakespeare and Blackdom, a space port, the Lightning Field in Catron county… this place is weird. In a great way. I’ve lived here 20 years and I’m endlessly enamored by our wealth of quirks, and every once in a while, I witness this ebb and flow on a plate.
When you unfold the sprawling menu for the Sopaipilla Factory, you’ll note that an entire page offers vegetarian options. While this may seem commonplace for a restaurant in the inner city, in Pojoaque it’s just plain random, man. People around here eat meat, right? They’re elk huntin’ gun totin’ Salt of the Earth folk, right? But wait, peep the crowd. See all those turbans? Au contraire mon frére: you’re actually chilling in the land of the Sikh. Interested in the Khalsa special or Yogi’s tacos?
I’m a huge fan of this Culture Club. Enchantment meets enlightenment, with a side of green chile. The place bleeds joyful service, solid sloppy entrees and a (certainly non-​Sikh) penchant for boozy drinks with the almighty pinnacle of pillowy heaven, the sopaipilla. Stuff it with veggies, honey or ground beef, around here you’re getting a tummyfull. A personal side note: I prefer sopas drenched in oil, the multi-​napkin kind. These are the light, fluffy variety, healthier for sure. They’re bendable, still delish. And one final note: if you have Spotify, search for the song «I love Sopaipillas» by Peter Apel. Indeed, this song exists, and it’s rather hilarious. Apparently it’s a «As heard on the radio» phenomenon. Who knew? A perfect dessert following your free dessert.

This place was great. The concierge at our hotel recommended, otherwise would have never gone. It is in a strip mall area and resembles a diner/Denny’s from the outside. When you walk in, you are greeted with friendly folks. And the food is great. Try the stuffed sopapilla. You won’t be disappointed. There were four of us and we all loved our meals.
They serve you complimentary sopapilla which are light, fluffy and delicious with the honey.
I would definitely return when back in Santa Fe.

I wanted something close to my hotel and authentic. Well I got close, but I have had much better food. It seemed bland to me and the only flavor was the green chili.

Average food with very friendly service. The menu is interesting and has lots of options. The main problem is that I could tell that food was not made fresh because all our plates were hot, but the food was barely warm (we were a party of six). Needless to say I had to return my tamales to get heated. They did so with a smile and the meal was substantially better after that. The stuffed chile was also not fresh which is vital when items are deep fried.
I believe that the green chile sauce was potentially below average. By contrast, the red sauce was very good.

We’ve been eating at the Sopaipilla Factory since they opened. The food is consistently excellent. The entire staff is always cheerful and the service is unbeatable.

Casual and very good food, a combination I’m a big fan of. The service was very good as well. We enjoyed chicken nachos which were good. The salsa was good too. My teenage son had shrimp fajitas which he said were good, not great. The sopaipilla ice cream and strawberries dessert was a big hit with the entire table.

It took me moving away from this area to realize that this is a solidly good (though not, necessarily, great) Mexican restaurant.
I finally came back after being gone for 5 years, making a specific point to stop here for the sake of nostalgia. I’m pleased to say that the restaurant is as I remembered, with comfort foods cooked well in a pleasant and friendly environment, all at an affordable price. My sopaipilla tacos were lovely — and well more than I could eat, even though I was famished. The complimentary sopaipillas for dessert are always excellent. If you’re in the Nambe and/​or Pojoaque areas, you should come by for a quick meal. It’s worth your time.

High points: Salsa was very good.
Low points: Mixed salad was of the very low quality, primarily due to the so-​called blue cheese dressing which tasted more like ranch. Salad was fresh but lacked any real appeal to Jeremy.

Chips and salsa were delicious and though we had to pay for them, when we asked for extra salsa, they brought out an ample portion at no extra cost.
We shared our entrée, which was a light combo plate, the Espanola.
It was a ground beef, bean, and cheese burrito, and chicken enchilada (with beans and rice).
It was a good portion, very tasty sauces. Overall delicious entrée.
The atmosphere: To JJ, felt like Denny’s. Didn’t feel like a Mexican restaurant. There was a fish tank next to our table.
*Not a first choice to entertain guests.
The service: People were very friendly and responded to all needs satisfactorily. Good service and generous.

Food was pretty decent. I’ve had better mexican food in my life, but the service was great. Really sweet and attentive staff. Be careful though — chips and salsa ain’t free.

Good solid meal. The special touch was the sopapillas served with dinner. We also had sopapillas for dessert, and they were excellent. We were surprised that there was a $ 5 charge for chips and salsa, but they were pretty good, so glad we ordered. I had tacos, which seems simple enough, but they were delicious. Would go back here.

The food and service are great. Love the chicken stuffed sopapilla. And the sweet corn cakes and awesome with it. The people are always friendly and treat you great all the time

Loving this place that opened recently. Prices are very reasonable, $ 10 entrees– plus they are super veg friendly, with a marineed tofu quesadilla as my current favorite option. Homemade food, nice friendly servers, plus we had a few margs there the other night and they were generous with their pour. A value meal but better than value food, sopaipillas come with every meal. Ambiance is austere, but the sangria warms things up just fine. We will be back again soon. Keep up the good work.

Noms. What a neat, little, yummy find in Pojoaque. It much operates like a diner, and has a diner feel to it — which means, the menu is expansive, the service is down-​to-​earth, and there are locals always milling about the restaurant.
We came with a large party of 7, and we ran the gamut of what we ordered… from menudo to the vegetarian sombrillo light combo to stuffed chicken sopapillas to enchiladas with over easy eggs atop to much more. Everyone was really satisfied with the meals, and hardly anyone had food left on their plate (I was the buzzkill and left most of my veggie tamale there, because it tasted only okay, and I filled up on chips and salsa already).
Obviously, by the title, they focus on sopapillas here, which are served both with honey as well as honey butter. Like I started this review, noms.

I luv this place ;) down-​home atmosphere and great sopas. . so yummy that i went back the second day during my visit to santa fe and ate there again.
it was a little more than i expected $$, but worth it for fresh, good food.

We took a chance on this place on our drive from Albuquerque to Taos. I’m glad we went for it. I was very pleased with the overall experience and New Mexican cuisine.
Excellent service and a very friendly wait staff. Everyone had smiles and was incredibly nice to us gringos. I was wondering what poposa tasted like and asked the waiter for a description. Instead, he offered to bring out a free sample. It was good, but I didn’t think I could eat a whole bowl of it.
Instead I went with a sopaipilla with green chili, the chicken vege combo. I ordered half of it with red sauce, but ended up not eating most of that half because it was too spicy for me (wimp, I know). The highlight of the meal, however, was the fried bread with honey butter, which came as an added side with the meals. It was amazing! A perfect sweet treat. My iced tea with lemon was also nice.
The décor was low key New Mexican inspired with a classic diner feel.
