I love Sharpe Hill Vineyard. In regards to CT wineries, this is definitely one of my favorites. I’ve been a few times now and both experiences have been great. I like it here because the employees come to you to pour the wine. That means you get to sit back and relax(their outdoor patio is really nice) and enjoy the wine and time you are spending with your friends. The workers always remember what wine you are on and are pretty attentive while also making sure they are not rushing you along. The wines are almost all pretty excellent especially for CT which usually tend to be overly sweet. There’s really only 1 or 2 that I don’t really care for. You can either choose from a half tasting of wines of your choice or a whole tasting. Unlike other wineries, you cannot bring in your own food here to snack on which is slightly disappointing. However, this is because there is a restaurant on site so I’m assuming they have to follow health and regulation codes so that is totally understandable. But they will provide you with crackers or I believe you can also buy a cheese plate. I’ll definitely be back and hopefully to try the restaurant(reservation only) which I hear is excellent.

If I could give 0 stars I would based on customer service alone. This past weekend a group of 8 other women and myself decided to treat ourselves to a girls’ day out(most of the group are mothers and wanted a ‘Mommy’s day’). We rented a limo, got dolled up and headed out — Sharpe Hill being our first stop. We had heard great things about it, so we were excited to go. As soon as we arrived and walked in, a very rude woman told us we «didn’t have reservations and we don’t have any room for you» — in front of the entire tasting room. We mentioned that their website says reservations aren’t required and she said, «well, then we need to change something about that.» When we told her we saw tables available outside, without even turning around to look she said, «No there’s not. I have 40 people upstairs and they need somewhere to sit when they come outside. We don’t have room for you. Sorry. Oh, and most wineries are like that now.»(We called another winery right after to see if reservations were required for a tasting, and even though they were also busy, they told us we didn’t need to make a reservation and they were more than happy to accommodate us!) The woman even went so far as to be rude to our limo driver and told him he needed to wait in the car, with it off, in the heat!(«I kicked three other limos out today. You can’t park here, you need to turn the car off and wait in the car!») We turned around and walked out and when asked by other patrons why we were leaving, we told them the truth — we were pretty much being kicked out — the rude woman runs out and tries to change her tune to accommodate us. After being absolutely embarrassed in front of the staff and other patrons, we will NEVER visit this place again, nor purchase any of their wines. I really hope their staff learns from this experience and no one has to go through this in the future.

Such a wonderful place to visit and dine in! Tucked away in a very remote part of CT, Sharpe Hill is such a romantic and quaint destination. Didn’t get to explore too much of the vineyard because of the weather, but had the opportunity to dine at the restaurant. A friend had arranged a reservation for a larger group for my birthday and the restaurant was very accommodating. A deposit was required as we were a larger group and the dining area is not very big, but it was totally worth it! The food was delicious. Try the French onion soup if they have it, the creole shrimp and Delmonico steak. The service was outstanding and the setting was so intimate and cozy. We all felt like we were at a private home. There was a fire going in the fireplace which also added to the ambiance. We started our evening off with a wine tasting which was the perfect beginning to a great night. We were able to pick the perfect wine(s) for our meal and also learn a little about each variety. I highly recommend this place for a simple getaway or a fine dining experience!

I recommend coming late on a warm afternoon and sitting outside under the big tree for the tasting, then strolling around the gardens and vineyard to admire the scenery. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Atmosphere was peaceful and inviting, classy yet unpretentious. We will definitely back!(Keep your eyes open for a groupon but totally worth paying full price)

We came here for a wine tasting and dinner. The atmosphere and the surroundings were just beautiful. I especially liked the eating area which was upstairs in the barn. I ordered the shrimp Creole, which they say is the among the fifty dishes you should eat before you die. Well I was unimpressed. The sauce was too sweet(although spicy too) and had no subtlety. I had the pear tart for dessert which tasted floury. My husband had the scallops which he enjoyed. My appetizer was a nicely done capressi with tasty heirloom tomatoes. I’d give it 5 for ambience and service and a 3 for food. Next time I would try the simpler grilled fare(steak, salmon, lamb chops).

My boyfriend told me it was a surprise so I had no idea where we were going. And we ended up here at this wonderful restaurant and Vineyard. We started with the tasting but ended up having dinner because they had an opening. They are usually booked, but it was a bit slow so we got lucky to be able to get a table. The food was really great, the wine outstanding and the atmosphere was quaint and for us very romantic. Love was in the air, encouraged by this wonderful experience. Julia was our waitress and she was delightful providing excellent service. Have to give this five stars, highly recommend!

Wow — I am so glad we listened to a fellow vineyard goer a couple months ago who suggested Sharpe Hill. It’s in the Pomfret area, a solid hour from Providence, but a beautiful country drive on Rte 6. It’s definitely in the middle of nowhere but the utter New England beauty is just breathtaking. You’ll pull up to red farmhouses and barns with the vines on a hill as the backdrop — you then enter the large structure and are greeted by stone and wood walls, an intimate setting reminiscent of an old country farmhouse with the cutest tasting room which seats about 15 people. We did the full tasting which was 11 wines for $ 15(vs. the half tasting which was 6 wines for $ 10). The pours were more the generous and our server was very knowledgeable and sweet(Olivia, was her name!) This was the first vineyard we’ve been to where I would have happily bought and drank any of the wines on the tasting… their Angelica Rose and Sweet Riesling were by far the best. We ended up taking a Riesling home with us. We found out they have a restaurant with special nights and seatings. After Olivia sold us on one of the Paris Bistro dinner nights, we booked a 4 top table near their back(stunning!) fireplace for later in March. Apparently this is one of their more popular events and we’re so looking forward to attending. We were told during the summer the place is packed with visitors enjoying the grounds(you can’t bring your own food to picnic, but welcome to bring lawn chairs and dogs!) I look forward to updating my review once we have our Parisian dinner in March!

We’ve been to many vineyards in CT and this one is a very nice experience overall. The wine was very good, in particular the Ballet of Angels was good! Tastings are done in an old barn or outside on warm summer days, which adds to the historic CT feel of this vineyard. Sharpe Hill is part of the CT Wine trail. Something you have to try is eating here. Reservations are extremely tight, and usually require three weeks or so to get. We ordered four entrees, two appetizers and two bottles of wine for four people, and the price was not cheap(around $ 240!). The food was fantastic though! Our appetizers were a caprese salad and a rainbow trout appetizer. The salad was out of this world! For meals, we got two of the chicken appetizers and then the shrimp dish and the scallops dish. I attached pictures on here so you can see the dishes and presentation. I’d recommend taking a trip out to this vineyard to experience all it has to offer, just make sure to do it after payday!

This was our first winery to visit in CT. We are lucky they were open. Their hours are limited. Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm. When we arrived they asked if we had a reservation and we didn’t. They have an indoor tasting room and the outdoor patio area to do tastings. The day we were there it was a bit chilly for us Texans so we wanted inside. Thankfully we were able to find two spots at the little bar in the indoor tasting room. There Jessica was our server. It is different than any other place I have done a wine tasting. You sit at tables or the little bar and the server goes around. We bought a cheese box and full flight of wine. Cheese box and wine flight was each $ 15 and you keep your glass. Be warn there are nuts on the outer part of the cheese rolls and in the box. We should have asked first. I stuck to the crackers Jessica had at the bar as I have a nut allergy. Something to be aware of. Jessica did a great job explaining the wines and the processes. Out of all the wineries we visited this had the best wine for us. We started with the best first. Oliva at the main area told us about a hike to the top of the winery. She told us we could see three states from the top. It is less than 5 minute hike but is steep. From the top you can see Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. It was wonderful. We are very grateful Oliva told us about it. The entire property is beautiful and what I would expect from a CT winery. The building was precious. The bathroom was cute. We loved the garden area. We took some photos on the property that will more than likely become canvases in our home. We were there in October when all the leaves were changing. We heard all week it was a bad season for color but to us it was magical. If in the area on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, I would give this place a stop. Use a GPS to find it.

How is it that I’ve never reviewed one of my favorite places in the entire state of CT? It’s simply gorgeous. My five stars are based more upon the entire experience, rather than just the wine(although it’s quite good!). My faves are their rosés, dry reds and their dessert wines. Allow yourself at least an hour, enough time to relax over a tasting at one of the outdoor seats(spectacular in fall!) and wander the grounds a bit. I’m not sure if you can bring outside food or not, although you can purchase a «boxed lunch» sort of cheese plate. They’re only open Friday-Saturday-Sunday which makes me crazy for some reason.

We have never been to a vineyard or wine tasting before so we really have nothing to compare it to. However I think just based on the experience, I can say this is a spectacular place to spend a few hours on a beautiful day especially when their tastings are held outside. We decided to take a drive last Sunday which was a spectacularly beautiful warm fall day. It is located off of Rt 6 and 395 and is reached by some winding country roads. I was actually thinking this wasn’t going to be a great idea the farther we traveled off the beaten path. What a lovely surprise to reach this location and be greeted by a well maintained, beautifully landscaped setting! We were offered the option of having lunch which is not typical as I’ve heard that reservations usually must be made a few weeks in advance. Unfortunately we had just eaten breakfast and I read that the«lunch» is more dinner like so we opted to just enjoy the wine and property. We arrived at 1215 and about 8 cars were in the lost. By 300PM, the parking lot was full and all outdoor chairs taken and a fairly long line was waiting to pay. We each ordered the 6 tasting option. Had I know exactly how much wine is poured for a tasting, I would have splurged for the 13 option! Outside was lovely and the staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed our tasting in the grassy area under the trees but had admired the patio with gorgeous flowers and décor as we walked in. We decide to then buy a bottle of their Ballet of Angels wine, used our glasses that came as part of the tasting and asked if we could sit in the patio area or was that for dining reservations only. She said we could sit anywhere outside and we enjoyed this spectacular area. Great chairs that rock slightly! c You are allowed to walk up through the vineyards where at the top of the main path, are a few chairs to enjoy your bottle even further as well as a view of RI, MA and CT. Just lovely. We will return! Just a beautiful setting to enjoy a beautiful day!

This place is beautiful. I have been a Ballet of Angels fan for over a year. It’s our go to white wine. I am told they have lunch reservations at set times. I went for a wine tasting in the back area, I saw the the lunch trellis area and it looks like a nice place to relax and eat. The downside is that it’s far away from real highways so you have to make a point and take the scenic route.

What a location! The further we drove up and into the hills of this rural area, the more we wondered if we would have the place to ourselves. NOT! But that was just fine with us. Sharpe Hill Vineyards knows how to make incredible wines and they know how to make you feel right at home on the grounds of their farm. We were looking forward to getting some food, but learned that we would have had to make reservations weeks(months?) in advance. That’s OK! We hope to return with some friends who are foodies and appreciate wine pairing w/a great meal. Anyhow, the wines were delicious and our angelic server was attentive, but not overly so, which was nice. We had the love seat to ourselves and enjoyed sipping wines and listening to the peaceful wind chimes. See you again, Sharpe Hill!

Our lunch at Sharpe Hill Winery was excellent! The shrimp appetizer tasted very fresh, had excellent texture and tasted of the best fresh herbs and with marinated onion slices to complete it. My lamb was prepared medium and was so tender I wanted to pick up the chop but refrained from doing so. The scallops were large, juicy and tender. All the sides were a great complement to the meal. Our waitress, Kate, enhanced our experience with her great attitude and knowledgeable service. She is top notch a1 and fantastic. Before lunch we enjoyed a wine tasting in the garden. Kelsey was our server for the tasting. She took especially good care of us. She was able to answer any question we asked. Our tasting was enjoyable thanks in no small measure to her. We will be sure to tell our friends about our experience and recommend Sharp Hill Winery!

Sharpe Hill is one of the best Vineyards in all of Connecticut. The scenery is gorgeous and relaxing, the staff are incredibly friendly and they have one of the most diverse and longest tastings of any of the other vineyards. I’ve heard the food is excellent here(albeit pricey), but I have not tried it.

The Vineyard has a wonderful outdoor space but the best part of this Vineyard is that their tastings are not done standing up at a bar in a tasting room, weather permitted I’m sure. We walked in, paid for our tasting and we were directed to the outside patio area. We found a nice seat on the grounds and a very nice woman came by to start the tastings. It was an awesome experience, we sampled all 14 of their wines while relaxing on their beautiful grounds. Many Vineyards have beautiful grounds but this is the first that we have been to that offered tastings on the grounds as opposed to a tasting room and it was really a great experience. We love this place and will definitely be back!

This place is outstanding, if you like wine and want to relax. Wine aside, I could come here just for experience. We did the 6 wine taste experience, and it was mire than worth the money. Thinking if bringing friends in a group now. Wow. We reviewed this trip for #ThisIsNewEngland at

Sharpe Hill, home of Creepy Baby Wine. I’ve bought that Creepy Baby(also known as Ballet of Angels) home from the store a handful of times over the years, so it was nice to get out and see where the magic happens. It was a pretty chaotic day at Sharpe Hill, as there was a lot of people packed inside due to rain, and a group of loud women wearing tiaras, leaving a trail of feathers on the floor from their boas. I’m sure the staff were as happy to see them as I was. We experienced a few minutes of sensory overload and not knowing where to go or what to do, and considered getting our passports stamps and getting out of there. But staff did eventually help us, pointing us towards the counter where you pay first, before moving into then into the tiny but charming tasting room. They were apologetic about the busyness, and seemed to be doing their best to accommodate everyone. I’m so glad we made it to the tasting. The room is full of quirky antiques and paintings; I felt like I was hanging out with the Gatsbys. As for the wine itself, I liked some more than others, some not so much, and at least one or two that I could dig. I want to return on a sunny day next year, so I could enjoy sitting outside in their gorgeous garden!

Wine tasting — 5 stars Dining — 3 stars Sharpe Hill has an interesting and historical feel to it. It has a lot of nice, old, beautiful pieces as décor but also a little bit that’s borderline too kitschy. Overall, it gives this barn a unique ambiance. The tasting room has eclectically decorated and has no more than 20 seats. The tasting of 14 wines for $ 15(plus glass) is a steal and a great way to try all their very different, very tasty wines. They have 3 chardonnays that were all different and lovely. The tasting also includes 2 dessert wines, a white and red. The upstairs dining area has the same quirky feel as the first part of the barn. There are no more than 40 seats in their 2nd floor dining area. Our waitress was very sweet. The food was only so-so, though, and for the prices, I was hoping they’d be a little more unique. The creole shrimp was uninteresting; I cannot fathom why it’s ever won an award, as I am pretty sure I could have made it at home. The lobster special and french onion soup special were far and away the«winners» at the table. The moon mountain cake is super rich and worth sharing. Great experience overall.
