A & J Tree Service

Roland came promptly and gave me an estimate that was very reasonable. I wanted a large podocarpus about 50 feet tall 15 inch diameter removed. It was leaning and bending a lot with the wind and it also straddled my property and my neighbor. Also, I have a smaller plumeria tree that was growing in the shade of this tree. He assured me that he could remove the branches and the tree without damaging anything and then grind the stump to below grade 4 to 6 inches.
He came the next day and removed the tree very safely and skillfully in about 3 hours. Amazing how they used ropes to swing the branches around and safely lower them. They also removed another tree that was dead. They are also licensed in good standing and carry Workers comp, which some contractors don’t have. I highly recommend them.

Great service! Fast, efficient, and reasonably priced. I needed a huge tree removed from the front yard, and after getting several estimates decided to go with A & J. They came right on time and got right down to work.
Roland and crew were fast! They commenced removing this enormous tree in the morning and were completely finished by the early afternoon! I’ve had other huge trees removed by other tree services, and those guys took all day. Roland mentioned he has all the right equipment for the jobs, and good help-​I couldn’t agree more! The workers also did an amazing clean up job before they left.

Great experience. Roland gave me an estimate and explained everything and answered all my questions. The other estimates I received from other tree services were not as thorough. One estimate was cheaper but I got «peace of mind» with A & J because they are insured and knowledgable. They were here early, replace two broken sprinklers and left everything clean. Worth the price.

As Joyce Kilmer famously noted — in so many words — trees are pretty bitchin’. We breathe easier with them, enjoy their shade and in the fall rake their leaves (joy). But they are subject to myriad problems, particularly here in Claremont where water rationing has seen even many of the city’s elms bite the dust. Add in a variety of predatory life forms that enjoy their bark and you have the prospect of everything from fires to collapsing limbs, the latter of which will not endear you to your roof or your neighbors. This being the case, we had cause to remove several trees and hedges from our backyard and called around for estimates. While all were professional enough, A and J offered to do the whole job at a price equal to what another had offered — for half the work. The only contingency? We had to commit that day. Well, I am happy to say we did. They did a wonderful job in not only removing the foliage but in cleaning up the attendant debris. This all proved very timely given the winds that visited the next day. Yeah, he asked if he could recount my money after I paid him, but what the hell — I didn’t leave this review until after he did the work, right? As is my habit, I only leave reviews for places I really like a lot, dislike, or hope will improve. This is definitely one of the former. In considering your different tree trimming options, I hope you will take this into consideration as a possible tie-​breaker :)

Roland and his crew did a great job. He quoted me a reasonable price (to remove a tree stump), showed up, did the work and was on his way. Easy to work with. Highly recommended.

We needed a large tree in our front yard trimmed. Roland came and gave a quick estimate. I thought it was reasonable and scheduled them to complete the job 3 days later. They came right on time and completed the trimming. Very professional, very reasonable, very courteous. Will use them again if needed.

Used this Tree Service for trimming /​prepping our palm trees for the winter storms for the last 2 years. They are quick, reasonably priced, and professional. Both last year and this year, I called Roland, and he was able to come out and have his crew do the work the same day, and they just leave the invoice under the front door mat for me to pay when I get home. Never any surprises. The palm trees always look great, and it seems to last for a good year. Definitely keeping A&J in my phone for all my palm tree trimming needs.

They were awesome! Don’t go anywhere else if you need work done on your trees! Called for an estimate on Monday scheduled estimate for next day. Roland shows up 10 mins before! He was fair and honest, gave me a fair price for removing two trees and pruning 2 other ones. Him and uniformed crew of 5 show up on time when promised, explained to his lead guys exactly what was to be done and 3 and a half hours later work was done and swept. The whole process was painless and I really enjoyed doing business with this company. I already recommended them to my neighbor and my parents they hired them and are also extremely happy with Roland and his crew!

A&J was great. Roland set a time for a bid and he came promptly and offered a reasonable price. His crew showed up on time and removed several trees, several stumps, and cut back some other trees. Everything was left very clean when they left. Roland was always easy to get hold of and he was a very prompt communicator. I highly recommend A&J.

A & J did a great job on a challenging project! Prices are very fair and given up front. Very knowledgeable and professional staff. All licensed and insured workers. I called A&J on a Thursday afternoon, Roland came over about an hour later to look at the job. The quote he gave me was pretty much what I had expected & what I thought fair so we scheduled them to come out the following Monday afternoon. Unfortunately it was a rainy day but his crew got busy & worked through the rain which eventually quit. They were great, courteous, friendly & hard working. They got job done & cleaned up in less than 3 hrs, would’ve been quicker without the rain. A&J will get any future calls I make for tree services & I will definitely recommend them to anyone.

There was a tree monster in our front yard … I called the first 5 tree removal companies with 4+ stars and decided at go with Roland. The tree cost us over $ 4000 to remove but out of all the contractors I paid to fix up our property … this was the only payment I made that felt like it was worth every penny. Roland is professional, reasonable, and very knowledgable. I saved his contact information and will call him in the future.

I came in contact with A&J via the Angie’s List «Snap Fix» iPhone app, their concierge set up an appointment for me with Roland. I was looking to get some palm trees trimmed and others removed. Roland showed up 10 minutes early on the scheduled day and gave me a very reasonable quote for the job. I was getting quotes from other companies on the same job but I decided to go with A&J because not only was their pricing reasonable, they have great business acumen. I was also very pleased to see that they are fully licensed, bonded and insured.
The crew came out the same day and got the job done. They were very well organized and professional. They cleaned up after themselves and did a great job. Two of the palm trees they trimmed are right next to our pool and they managed to keep the mess contained, which was awesome.
I already made an appointment with Roland for a couple of future projects. I recommend these guys.

Thinned out seven massive coastal redwoods which had not been touched in 30 years. The trees look beautiful, and they left the area cleaner than when they started. Highly recommended!

I called A&J for a quote to remove two fruit trees and they sent a representative right out and gave me a more than fare price. Surprisingly the had a cancellation and we’re able to come out later that same day. They we’re efficient and very clean. I will recommend them every time.

Scary to have a tree trimmed over your home. They trimmed the tree without any issues to the tree or our home. We will use them again for any future trimming.
