American Way Thrift Store

Found things I wanted to buy here but my bank put my account on hold for trying to use my debit card here, due to theft in the area or at this location. I had never had this issue with my bank before. I will, for now on, bring cash when shopping at this store.

I don’t get this place. I’ve been here maybe 6 times and every time I say I’m not coming back. This place charges 10 times the price every place else charges on most things. Luckily Goodwill is opening up about a block away.
What’s even weirder, ½ the reviews say the same thing yet give them a 3 star or higher.
Go 100ft down the street to Goodwill, you won’t look back.

People… its a thrift store. It’s not Macy’s.

You’re gonna have a mess, stuff crammed into random places, broken items, overpriced items, etc. No matter where you go! I’ve been to a ton of thrift stores and this one is pretty decent considering. They have a wide selection of items and a HUGE store.
You find garbage & you find gems. It’s just about the experience. I’ve found clothes, books, kitchen ware, toys, etc. Although sometimes I don’t find anything. This isn’t a department store. its second hand items that are donated. That’s like going to McDonald’s and expecting a steak. Not gonna happen. The staff is always friendly & I’ve never had a problem.
They have good discount days make sure to check out the wall for what tags are on sale.
I have also found brand new items! You just have to look.

Prices have gone up, service has gone down :(
Stopped by today and had a few items in my hand ready to purchase. Two employees brushed up against me while working and never said excuse me or ask if I needed help. Then a shopper bumped into me and kept on walking. I quickly put all my items on a rack and left the store. They won’t be getting any of my money until they get their act together.

I’m not very upkeep, therefore I haven’t really noticed the «dirtiness» of the place. To me, it’s just the character of the place. I haven’t experienced any overpriced items, but to be fair, I only usually buy clothing. And interestingly enough, there are good quality items like sweaters and shirts I’ve gotten for $ 2-​$ 4. I shop for the deals not the people as someone else mentioned below.
The only con I would say is the no dressing room deal.

The quality of this thrift has really gone down. I have been coming in for years and it used to to be better; well organized and well kept. However, now they employee kids that spend their entire time gossiping and they just throw the clothes on the rack where it is convenient. At least you can tell what they new items are, they’re the at the end of rack all mashed together regardless of whether they belong in that section or not. The store owner himself does well, but he should really reevaluate who he hires if he wants the store to do as well as it could.

A broken Canonet– $ 120. I hope the worker who priced that used
or some country that uses the peso, but I doubt it. Even at half off, it is nowhere near the price anyone would pay for a broken camera like that.
Pretty much all the reviews since mine have mentioned overpriced cameras. I guess the guy who I saw that day get the Minolta for cheap just got lucky. I must apologize to those who thought from my prior review that this place was ‘El Dorado’ of thrift store cameras. –1star.
But for those who crawl on their hands and knees from Seville on their hands and knees hoping for ‘El Dorado,’ let it be known that there have been deals here and there will be deals to come. But don’t keep your hopes up for a Leica for $ 20 or an original Blue Note pressing.
Bought a set of six elegant stainless spoons and forks. Nicely balanced. Nice tone. Less than $ 2– 20 cents apiece with 30% off.
Record selection always seems sparse. Men’s section usually picked bare by 10. As usual.
Came back the next week and saw nothing was left of the lot of silverware but the luckless pieces bent by a talentless high school magician whose only trick is brute force. So it goes.

Pros. It’s a big Thrift store.
Cons. Way overpriced. Dirty place. No dressing rooms. Antiques they do have are more then Ebay.
So not a Thrift store I will be going to go again. Most Goodwills are better,

This «thrift store» obviously does not have a drug policy, whoever is doing the pricing has to be on the rock.
A word to the wise to the management of this fine establishment, the prices that you may find on the Google or eBay for cameras, furniture, etc… are what people are ASKING not what items are SELLING for.

This thrift store thinks they should charge retail prices for used cameras.
A Polaroid 450 marked $ 90.99
I asked if they could do better, he said $ 55. That camera is worth $ 15 – 20 in a thrift store in that condition without owners manual, or a case, without any filters, and without a battery to prove that it works. And without film to prove that the bellows don’t leak light. If they want to be in the retail used camera business they should have their cameras serviced by a repair shop in LA or NYC.
Since when does a thrift store try to capitalize on trends based on eBay? This place thinks you should pay top eBay prices for goods. My advice is shop on eBay for the same items. You’ll pay less on eBay.
They have a Nikon FE body, no body cap protecting the inside from dust, no strap, no lens, marked at $ 200. Does the shutter work at all speeds? Does the hot shoe mount work? Is it light tight? Does it scratch film emulsion? Your guess is as good as mine. This same camera with a body cap sells for less than $ 70 on eBay (keep in mind that’s a price set by someone who knows about cameras). At a thrift store you should pay $ 30 tops for cameras like this. Go to a flea market and you’ll pay less, even at the rosebowl.
This store is using eBay to determine prices.
If you want to buy used cameras go to eBay or
where professionals closely look over each item and rate their condition based on professional knowledge.
According to American Way’s website «We are a thrift store specializing in low priced and quality items including clothing & shoes, furniture, toys, electronics, books, records, jewelry, appliances, antiques and a whole lot more!» More like, expect to pay a whole lot more!!!
Remember when thrift stores received their inventory by donation and part of their profit went to charities, and they priced things with their charity in mind and with their customers in mind, not what eBay’s sellers priced things at.
You won’t find that here.

American Way Thrift rocks if you are looking for a huge selection of clothes at good prices. They have specials on certain days that give you discounts of 30 to 50 percent off so call to see what days. On senior day you only have to be 50 to be a senior. No dressing room. Minimum of $ 10 for credit card but that seems fair. Prices on non clothes items are high. My biggest complaint is you have to park in the back in this closed off area surrounded by barbed wire. I never feel safe there. It looks like a movie set where some crime is about to happen. I wish you could just enter from the front in full view of the street. But good deals on clothes.

There are so many thirft stores in this neighborhood, that by comparison, this one is pretty mediocre. It has its strengths, but there are better, even on this same street.
First of all, it’s pretty overpriced. $ 10 for a ceramic baking dish is pretty similar to something I could find brand new, and dish sets are packaged individually… $ 2 for a wine glass, might as well go to Target or BBB. Although the home goods section is spacious, I’ve never found anything worth it.
Fantastic furniture selection, taking up the back section of the store and everything near-​new, including plastic-​wrapped mattresses. I think the best parts of this store are this and the clothing selection. The clothing selection is HUGE, complete with formal attire (I had no problem finding some hideously awesome 80s dresses for a party).
The store is a little dingy and dirty, and nothing in the electronics section ever looks to be of quality. Also, no fitting rooms, unlike Goodwill next door. There is a huge, wall-​size mirror in the front of the store, where people usually try clothes on over their clothes. Not much privacy and kind of a pain, but it works.

I went there to look for work shoes (have to be black, slip resistant, low heel like and prefer Mary Jane kind but extremely hard to find my size 7w) which they didn’t have but I did buy a pair of shoes that were no different price than most other thrift stores (goodwill).
Sales lady/​cashiers were very helpful and trying to help these ladies who bought a full cartful of clothes (30%off for seniors), and a young man complained they’re too slow and should opened another register which they did and even a lady who was next let him go before her. (He also said had to back to work.).
I was happy the way they weren’t stressed out and was very nice to me! My purchase was under $ 10.00 therefore I just paid cash and left :)
No returns (sales final), and cards accept over a $ 10.00 purchase. Look for other discounts a few days a week! Will be returning – !

Their pricing just keeps going up. Interesting found a bowl I liked for $ 8.99 but the original tag from home goods was $ 6.99.
Haven’t been for a couple of weeks. Think I will just save my money. Or better yet go to Home Goods.
No dressing room, what you buy is what you keep. oh and don’t even think of asking to use the restroom!!!

They have a lot of stuff but judging by their prices they sure are proud of it!
Others might like this one but me?, I just drive on past it.

They do not have dressing rooms! I go there wearing tights and a fitted cami cuz all you have is a wall mirror to try on clothes in front of.
Their prices aren’t as well as what I’ve seen elsewhere. I’d only go during their weekend or early-​bird Tuesday/​Thursday sales.
I know it’s a thrift store, but as far as organization, it feels more like you’re rummaging than browsing.

This is one of our favorites to go to since they have great specials and there’s the goodwill/​charity within a few blocks to get a good day of thrifting in.
The selection for mens and womens clothing is awesome. Prices are fair for thrift store. and they have a well organized furniture/​electronics area.
I just wish «the good stuff» behind the registers can be a little better displayed.

For the most part, I find the american way of life to be okay at times. Coincidentally, I find the American Way thrift store to rival those feelings.
American Way is a big store that offers a big selection of items. This store offers pretty much anything from a thrift store: clothing, shoes, mattresses (new), furniture, electronics, bric a brac, housewares, videotapes, board games, records and even a hodge podge of new items like cleaning supplies and small handy tools.
as strange as it sounds, I found the The VHS selection was EXCELLENT and I also found some pretty awesome small pieces of furniture and electronics as well. I would highly recommend heading straight to this section as I found the best items and values in the store. I know, VHS is kinda random but this store had a great selection and aside from the handful of small electronics, it was the best the store had to offer.
I also found some great jackets in the Men’s section but the prices were a little steep for the product. The selection of clothing at this location is huge and it is without doubt that there are many treasures hidden among the many many racks of clothes but I will warn you that you must have some free time because there are’s a LOT of stuff here and the quality varied greatly.
From my observations, the prices varied greatly. I couldn’t give you a good example prices for clothing items because they were so different from item to item. For the most part, I found the price to be a little high for the quality of the product being sold. A lot of the stuff in the store is in pretty rough condition and the asking price is high (okay, I’ll say prices. I think four bucks for a thrift store tee is too much).
If you do decide to stop by, I would highly advise coming in on sale day. Here’s what they are:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 – 12: 30% off everything (except current tags)
Wednesdays: 30−50% off all items for seniors over 50
Saturdays and Sundays: 30% of all used items for everyone
As far as the store itself, I’m going to be honest– it’s a little dirty. I’ve been to American way in Burbank and found it to be repulsive and this store is actually cleaner but it’s still one of the dirtier thrift stores I’ve entered.
The people working here truly have a heart of gold. A woman about two people ahead of me in line decided that she was simply not going to purchase her two entire shopping carts full of items after she misread the price on one item and the cashier offered to get a manager.
I’ll definitely be returning to American way– but only on a sale day.

I found a great leather jacket for $ 20 here. Yes, it was damaged because the pockets were ripped but I was able to salvage it with my sewing skills. I was looking for the brand online and someone was selling a jacket like the one I bought for $ 110. I was actually looking for a dress here since I didn’t think I would find a nice leather jacket that fits me and didn’t look outdated.
The clothes are organized by type of clothing. Nice shoe collection. They had alot of corning ware bowls here the day I came. I also found a really pretty music box that was intact and it was still working but a girl already chose it.
No fitting room. The small parking is in the back. They take debit card here too.

Favorite thrift store in the valley. That is if you consider Burbank in the valley. Great prices, with a wide variety of junk. Just the way I like it!
Plus they have bulk bags of sweet junk/​crap. Bonus! I like their stuffed animal bags of crap because you get (what I turn into dog toys) like 10 toys for $ 3 – 5. If my dog is going to destroy the toy anyway, why not pay little for it. There is a constant smell of mildew, but that’s probably the only thing that bothers me about this place.
They also get sweet costumes and tons of wigs. I’ve found countless real hair $$$$$ wigs for $ 6 and under.
If you’re a fan of junk or you resell oddities or you have a shopping itch for wild, this is your place!
They also let you go behind the counter with other thrift shops do not. Sales on two colors at a time. Great store!!!
