History

Established in 1954.

In 1954, a small group of educators in Whittier decided to pool their money, and the Whittier Area Schools Federal Credit Union was born. Their plan was to combine assets for safe investment, provide funds for loans, and offer financial programs of value to those who shared the common bond of education. Over the years, the credit union grew, expanded its field of Membership, and became Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal). Along the way, the founders learned that they were providing something much more valuable than financial services and building something far more enduring than branches or loan portfolios.

Now, after 60 years, we at CU SoCal realize that what we always hoped would be a success story, has always been, and always will be, a story about People Helping People.
