I saw Dr. Wehbe at his Woodward office right across the street from St. Joe’s for my pregnancy last year. I wasn’t sure what to expect, being new to Michigan at the time and basically picking him off a list of providers. My worries were quelled when my +1 and I had the sit down consult in his office. Overall, Dr. Wehbe is very knowledgable, shows concern and follow up for any possible medical condition and has such a nice bedside manner to boot. Only thing is, he’s a one man show which means he may be running behind on appointments or could be across the street at the hosptial taking care of business(delivering, surgery, etc.) and your appointment could be delayed or rescheduled. It personally didn’t happen often to me, but it’s something to keep in mind because it very well COULD happen. I was advised of this before my first appointment. However, when Dr. W is with you in the exam room, he WILL take his time with you. One time I brought a laundry list of questions and he didn’t blink an eye and addressed my every concern. The one major caveat about seeing a doc who’s a one-man-show came to fruition when I went into labor. Dr. W was not on call and I ended up with another OB I did not like ATALL(an older Indian… from India… woman) delivering my child. I had a C-section and, aside from the requisite in-room, pre-surgery face time, she showed zero concern and did not check in with me before, during or after the surgery while in the operating room. No acknowledgement that there was an actual living, breathing human being behind the curtain they set up below my face. She chatted the whole time with the other doctor/resident assisting her over my open stomach like she was at the water cooler and just walked out after they were done with stitching me up without a word. Talk about making me feel like a real POS while in the most vulnerable position I have ever been in, in my entire life. That being said, she did a good job on my slice and stitch. I have heard some horror stories about butcher jobs that result in bad C-section scars. Dr. Wehbe did get to see me during the last couple of days at the hospital post-delivery(through some miracle I was there 3 days post C-section…a nice little vakay for me, actually). He also did my son’s circumcision. A nurse who was there with Dr. W during that time said my son was crying beforehand and the doc walked and rocked and talked to him before he did the deed. The nurse was obviously smitten and, upon hearing the story, so was I. That about made up for the experience with the witch that delivered my kid. On a side note, the overall facility experience at St. Joe’s was somewhere between Meh and Okay. I was there awhile and experienced good nurses and average ones, the individuals you basically have the most contact than anyone else. I also didn’t leave with free starter diapers or a baby grab bag of some sort like you hear about at other hospitals at St. Joe’s Oakland. My last nurse basically told me I could take whatever leftover formula that was in the room that they’d left from the night before and a receiving blanket or two, that’s it. Becky, Dr. Wehbe’s main receptionist was always very nice, helpful, informative and accomodating with appointments, handling referrals, etc. I had zero idea what to expect with everything and from the time I first spoke with her to set up the initial appointment she made me feel very at ease. The nursing staff at the office was just okay/adequate. Dr. W also shares an office in a large/clean medical building with some other independent practitioners. His waiting room is a large, relaxed one with a TV and good magazine selection. The waiting room clientele, as is Dr. W’s personal clientele, is very mixed. It is Pontiac, after all. There are also no in-office ultrasounds here. Those are done across the way at the hospital. Also, very likely due to disruption problems in the past, it is strongly advised that children of a certain age not accompany their moms to their appointments. I had no choice but to bring my son in during my 6 week check up because I had no other sitting options at the time. I did check with Becky beforehand and they gave me a pass. The only reason I would reconsider using Dr. Wehbe again for a pregnancy is due to the driving distance from my house to his office which is at the edge of Pontiac/beginning of Bloomfield Hills. Trekking 30 minutes in normal traffic to an appointment is a bit different than making your way there in full labor in the slowest midday traffic ever. Holy god, I was screaming like the pregnant ladies in the movies do and thinking I was gonna pop my kid out en route at any given second. My vote will probably be for Huron-Valley next time around under such circumstances. If you’re closer, by all means, give Dr. Wehbe a whirl. In the meantime, I would very likely be using him for other standard gyno treatment that does not involve a fetus in a hot second.
