History

Established in 1935.

Our reputation for the area’s best little burgers began in 1935 when the four powers brothers built their first restaurant by hand in Dearborn, Michigan. By 1940, Powers’ famous parties were welcomed in towns across Lower Michigan, eventually sizzled their way into the appetites of Fort Wayne, Indiana. This Art Deco shop was the third store opened after Dearborn and Port Huron site. In 1999, Leo Powers’ family sold Fort Wayne eateries, but the name and tradition continue to satisfy. The current owner John Liangos, bought this one of a kind establishment that is located in Port Huron, Michigan. Powers Diner still holds true to the original Powers legacy.

The «Iconic Diner» everyone missed-​including me. Too bad the owner is a pompous ass who is constantly degrading his employees in front of his customers, and allows his waitresses to play on their cellphones instead of customer satisfaction. Both times I’ve been there, the food was good, but marred by the stress of the employees being called «stupid». A heavyset waitress, who never even set her phone down, even had the audacity to say «prick better be leavin’ me a $ 5.00 tip». No third time’s a charm for us.

After hearing they reopened recently, I figured I’d try them out again. As a result, I stopped in for breakfast this morning. For 3 ½ bucks, I got their big breakfast with 2 eggs, 2 generous slices of ham, home fries, and 2 pieces of Texas toast. My drink was free with my Unilocal check-​in (yeah!).
My breakfast was served up quick. Great meal for the price! Old time looking juke box toward the back door.
I’ll be a return customer.

Definitely worth checking out, and far better than White Castle for sliders. My experience was marred by the cooks failing to get my chili fries out before my burger was gone, but it was a good burger. The menu is small enough that you won’t stare for ten years before ordering. The cooks know how to cook, the wait staff knows how to pay attention and the tables were gloriously clean! I can’t ask for much more than that, and plan to return at some point to see if they warrant a fourth star.

It’s the «gut bombs» back in action! The burgers are what they always were and if you like em go get em. However, be prepared to wait, it took me 40 minutes to get a lunch order for just myself. There was one to go in front of me and one other table in the place.
The service was actually good and the waitress was very friendly! Unfortunately she didn’t inform me of the surcharge she was going to try and charge me for using my credit card. While it is legal for a business to require a minimum to use your card, it is against Visa and Mastercard’s terms to pass surcharges to customers. After I explained this to them they didn’t charge me, but she basically was fed up with dealing with this.
Overall, good service, good burgers, fries sucked, and management is nonexistent and clearly uneducated. If you crave the burgers take some cash and get some!

I have to go to this place every time I’m back in the P.H.
There’s nothing quite like it. It whisks you back to the 50’s (even though with the newer building it feels forced). I love the burgers even though I feel they get pricer and pricer every time I visit. I generally order 3 burgers and a chili fry.
